“Tabs…YOU ARE TOP CHEF!”
LOL! Wouldn’t that be a hoot? — Padma Lakshmi congratulating Tabs on his award-winning final meal on Top Chef.
I mean, even considering that he’s a cat, chances are Tabs would win Top Chef before I did because I don’t have that special something. Sure, I can follow a recipe, but I’m no wonder in the kitchen.
I do, however, have strong opinions on ? lipstick. ? If that counts for anything.
Regardless…
1. There’s a lotta lipstick in the MAC Padma Lakshmi collection!
The 17-piece release, which is coming to MAC counters Thursday, March 15th, has been released early online. It includes six lipsticks ($17.50 each) and a Cremesheen Glass ($21, which is an online exclusive). Four of the lippies are MAC Mattes, one is an Amplified, and one is a Cremesheen. Oh, and the Cremesheen Glass is glossy, of course.
2. The nude lipsticks are a go, ESPECIALLY for tan temptresses and darker divas.
If you have a toasty tan, you know how some nude lipsticks can be, right? Particularly pale pink and pale beige lipsticks? How some will wash you out? Well, I think you’ll have better luck with Padma’s lipsticks. The nudes in this launch are rooted in peach and brown, and they’re deeper than usual for pastel nude lipsticks. They’re generally very pigmented and overall brown-girl friendly.
If you’ve ever found yourself wondering why pale pink or beige nude lipsticks look wonky or weird on you, check out Padma’s collection if you can, because the nudes should work well with most darker skin tones.
My favorites of the six lipsticks are Sunset Rose and Nude Fudge. Mid-toned peachy brown Sunset Rose has a ’90s feel to it, but if you don’t like the brown matte look, you can always slick a little gloss on top.
3. The Cremesheen Glass is a go for most skin tones.
I love layering the Cremesheen Glass in Nefertiti ($21) on top of the other nudes. Nefertiti is a golden peach a lot like NARS Greek Holiday, but with finer (foin-er) opalescent shimmer.
Gorgeous!
4. The hot pink and red lipsticks are better than the plum.
There are three brights in the collection, and the standouts IMO are smooth, pigmented Mittai Pink (it’s like a warmer, yellower version of MAC Breathing Fire) and Blue Blood (which is like a slightly darker version of MAC Red Rock).
Deep plum Sumac, which, like the other lippies in the launch, has a good amount of pigment, applies a tad patchy in comparison to the other lipsticks. It’s the only lippie in the launch that I feel kinda iffy about… If you end up falling in love with it, it may help to layer it on top of something else (like a lip liner).
On the grand scale of patchiness, though, it’s not that bad. I’ve definitely encountered worse.
5. The collection launched early online!
The whole collection, including the lip products, arrives on counters Thursday, March 15th, but if you can’t wait that long, it’s available meow on the MAC website.

Nude fudge is my kind of nude. Not sure I’ll partake but it certainly is lovely. I’m trying to use what I have before buying anything new. I’m one of those people that apply lipstick before work and then switch to chapstick for the rest of the day. I never re apply anything for that matter–once in the am and I am done! Hope you got some sunshine today. It was blue skies here for about an hour before the clouds and rain came and doused us.
Karen says
Hi Kelly,
It’s raining here right now! I’ve heard it’s supposed to rain all week, too. 🙂

The colors are gorgeous on you, but it looks like they might cling on to dry patches… 🙁 Nude Fudge is ahmazing on you.
Karen says
Hi H,
I didn’t really have that issue with these shades other than with Sumac. 🙂 They were all pretty pigmented and consistent.

Nude Fudge! I wants! How about the matte formula, do you think it’s drying? The color has my lips written all over it.
Karen says
Hi Sarah,
I didn’t have any issues with it drying out my lips more than usual. The MAC mattes are always a little drying, but it’s nothing a little bit of prep with lip balm can’t fix.
Ruchita says
These are all such pretty colors! I think Nude Fudge and Sumac are my favorites.
Karen says
I think Mingy and friends would approve of Nude Fudge, because any and all shades of cat fur would look good on it, LOL! (Why is Tabs’s fur always getting stuck on my face?!)
How are you today? It’s early here (just before 8) and rainy. I’m hoping the baby stays asleep for one more hour so I can get some stuff done.
Ruchita says
I have the same problem with fur getting stuck on my face. Part of it is probably my fault, because I’m always kissing them. 🙂
I don’t know if it’s the time change or just my bad habits, but I’ve been feeling really tired the past couple of days. And it snowed here a bit too. Luckily nothing as bad as the east coast, but I am so ready for warm weather!
Hope you have a productive day!
Karen says
Haha! I know that all too well. Tabs is very generous with his kitty kisses and his cheek rubs (he likes to mark his humans).
You’re not the only one feeling out of sorts from the time change! I’ve been feeling extra slow in the mornings; must be the lack of light coming through the windows. Thank goodness for coffee — I’m on my second cup!
P.S. Have you read any good books lately?
Ruchita says
Glad I’m not the only one feeling out of sorts. I feel like I should have my act together as an adult, but I’m going to blame the time change. 🙂
Some mornings, both Mingus and Louis will come in the bathroom and rub against my legs while I’m getting ready. I have to keep the door slightly ajar so they can come in. Otherwise they’ll just whack it with their paws.
I’m currently reading The Paris Wife about Hemingway’s first wife. It’s a little slow, but kind of interesting because I don’t know much about Hemingway’s early life.

Uh, Blue Blood and Apricot Gold are beautiful! Nude Fudge is a beauty too.
Karen says
Yes! Blue Blood!
Danielle Mcneil says
The texture of sunset rose looks delicious! I think I could pull it off on my nc23 skin tone too. Of course ALL of them are gorgeous on you!
Karen says
Hi Danielle,
I think you could easily pull it off! That’s one of my favorite shades from the launch, btw.
P.S. Are you a MAC person too? I’ve been following the line for over ten years now, and it’s still one of my faves.
Brianna says
Ooo these are already out in Europe! I love cooking with sumac so a little disappointed the lipstick didn’t turn out so perfect, but I’ll probably still buy it since I love the spice sumac that much XD
kellly says
Wow, Nude Fudge is a pretty color. I think I might get that as well as Sumac.
kellly says
Ordered! I figured if they are online already I’d better get the ones I wanted before they are all sold out. Not that I’ve ever had that experience with MAC LEs before (*cough*cough*)
Tatiana says
Sunset Rose is very pretty. Not sure it would work for me though. Light nude lipsticks make me look dead, my face needs color. Mittai Pink and Blue Blood are screaming out at me. You need us! Now! Go shopping!
I hope this collection lasts because I’m about to leave on a trip and if I ordered it online I’m afraid the delivery box would go missing. Might peak into the Powell St. store on Thursday when I’m in The City to have my hair cut.
Michelle says
I may get more, but I knew I’d be mad at myself if I didn’t grab the blue blood lipstick I already ordered!! I love that tone of red, but hate that Ruby Woo is retro matte so this regular matte red in such gorgeous packaging was speaking to me!! Seriously it’s such a gorgeous collection, even for me who is definitely on the paler end of the spectrum!!
Sarah Lowes says
I take it that Tabs’ winning recipe would feature a signature gravy element..?
Pumps and Gloss says
I love the Sunset Rose, but it is in the cremesheen formula. #sadface
Chelsea says
I really like Apricot Gold. I always go for peachy nudes though ?
