Unfurl your mighty wings, oh majestic makeup pegasus, and sparkle like the magical creature you are! At the San Francisco Academy of Art University Graduate Fashion Show last night, the makeup look was winged, audacious and sexy sci-fi.
The annual show showcases the work of graduating students in fashion design, textile design, jewelry and metal arts. It’s open to the public, too, so it’s a cool chance to literally see the latest thoughts and trends in fashion from the next generation of designers.
MAC sponsored the makeup, and the look created by Senior MAC Artist Victor Cembellin featured dramatic winged liner and glitter, which sparkled under the runway lights.
Here’s a sneak peek at the backstage makeup area and some pictures from the show…
The glitter used in this look, by the way, is something brand-spankin’-new from MAC. Coming soon!
It’s super sparkly with multicolored flecks — equal parts dramatic and tasteful.
After checking out the makeup, a beautiful dress caught my eye…
I love anything with birds and floral designs. 🙂 This one was a collaboration between Fashion Design Student Nicole Bell and Textile Design Student Holly Hapka.
I would totally wear this in a heartbeat (said the girl who rolled up to a fashion show in jeans, a white t-shirt and her cat-printed Vans, haha!). I felt the dress lust in mah loins!
Before the runway part of the show began, there were a few speakers, including Angela and Margherita Missoni — yes, from the Missoni fashion family in Italy.
I wanted to tell them that I loved their Target collaboration (I’m still cranky about waiting too long and missing out on the Target/Missoni towels) but, alas, an opportunity did not present itself.
The runway show itself was pretty cool. I saw lots of interesting women’s wear.
There was a wee bit of children’s clothing up in the mix, too! So cute.
And, dude, when did kids get so stylish? Seriously, when I was that age, everything I wore either had a picture of an ice cream cone on it, Hello Kitty or a rainbow, and 99% of the time, I was totally mismatched…but not in a fashion-forward kind of way.
There was also some men’s wear…
OK, now, I know that this outfit is technically for men, but I can see myself wearing it while watching Bravo on the couch.
It certainly looks warm and comfortable. #priorities
When the bird dress I saw earlier backstage made its way down the runway, I kind of freaked out a little!
So cool the way the fabric floated…
I also really liked the pieces by this duo…
Can’t you picture these at a garden party or afternoon tea?
What a fun experience! Highly recommended one of these years if you like fashion (details should be available on the Academy of Art University website, or call 800-544-2787 to find out more).
Who knows? You might meet the next big designer there before they take the fashion world by storm.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Girl, that dress is something! They start selling that, and they’ll have some fangirls! I also like your cat Vans. I worked on a report for their website at work today, actually…
I love the glitter! Fashion show makeup is generally not everyday makeup, but I love the drama!

So interesting! Thanks for sharing your pics, Karen! What an opportunity 🙂 I’m not much of a fashion buff, but I do love the semi-Egyptian inspired eye looks!
