Erhm, seeing as how this plummy number I’m wearing on my lips is from the new MAC Lorde collection, I probably should’ve been listening to Lorde while I was taking these pics.
But I wasn’t.
I was actually bumping The Cure’s In Between Days.
I can see it now — Lorde and I hanging out, listening to Robert Smith and shooting the sh*t as we swap out the laces on our Doc Martins.
You can see it too, right? 🙂
This scenario is much more likely than, oh, I dunno, hanging out with Lorde while listening to Taylor Swift songs and practicing our cheerleading moves.
Call me crazy.
Pure Heroine Lipstick is part of the tiny two-piece MAC Lorde collection, a limited release release coming June 5 to maccosmetics.com and the MAC Times Square and Fifth Avenue stores in NYC (international babes, you’ll be seeing it online in July and at the MAC Champs-Élysées store in Paris), and it has MAC’s Amplified formula, which means smoooooth, intense, long-lasting color (between 6-8 hours, no joke!).
Some of my favorite MAC lippies are MAC Amplified family members, so I always get really excited when MAC releases a new shade.
A dark, moody plum, it appears brighter on my lips than it does in the tube.
I expected a blackened plum when I removed the cap and caught my first glimpse, but it impersonates a plummy reddish wine on lips (at least on mine).
I’m betting that it’s one of those bold babes that looks just as dramatic on deeper skin tones as it looks on lighter lasses.
Fall immediately springs to mind (fall springs?). I think Pure Heroine is one of those lippies I’d reach for most often in the fall. I think it’s great, but I’m not gonna lie — I was hoping for more of a gothic blackened plum, and I’ll probably layer it with something like MAC Nightmoth Lip Pencil to get that look.
Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack ($19.50), the other item in the launch, is a re-promote available now in the MAC permanent line.
I mentioned it a couple weeks ago in the MAC Maleficent collection post.
Basically, I think it’s OK. It doesn’t transfer or smudge, which is great, but I find the short felt tip a little tough to control.

The lipstick is so rich.. the deep plum tones are screaming fall..
Ur lip swatches closeups are so so s*xyy.. I have Rebel with me which will be much lighter than this but that might be the darkest plum shade that work for me. 🙂

I absolutely avoid these shades a mile off!! It looks so hot on you!! Makeup sometimes need a lot of confidence to wear!!

I was so hoping this would be close to Instigator or Punk Couture so I could skip lol. I don’t think it’s possible though. It looks quite beautiful on you!

It looks like a really pretty colour, but I agree – I was expecting something more…purple!
If they used a lipliner in the photoshoot, they should have maybe included that in the collection 😛

Wow, it looks so different on than the shade the bullet projects. It’s gorgeous, but it’s October to me. And it’s a deep wine red rather than purple. Oh well. Still pretty but I still haven’t bought any summer lippies yet. Yesterday was the first day over 75!

I don’t think overdrawing lips look good, personally.

Oh this is a lot prettier than I thought it would be! It’s the right amount of drama and sexy on you!

Not gonna lie, I was SO hoping this would be vampy. As in Cyber-like vampy. I have Rebel & Nightmoth so I’m not sure if this lil’ darling is a must have for me bc it kinda looks similar to Rebel. Though the Amplified finish seems tempting. This is kinda a bummer bc on the promo pics of Lorde wearing this lippie, the vampy color is killer. Oh well, I’ll save my pennies. Lol!

Pretty shade wonder how this shade can look on me. Rebel looks more plummy on me , so I wonder how this one that is purple will look on me

I was expecting it to be darker too… poo.

I was really hoping for a more blackened shade, too — bummer. That said, hopefully the Lorde association with Pure Heroine will get more makeup junkies-in-the-making wearing vampy lips around! The world can never have too many statement lipstick wearers, after all 😀

The Cure, now you are speaking my language. It was love, lust, melancholia, angst from all spoken in music. My first listen in the fourth grade, 15 min. after discovering my first true love of a band, lyrics & music, to go grab my mom’s red lippie & I’ve never looked back. The Cure, the copious amounts of red lippies from every brand, finish & undertone, two love cats & a hubs who loves The Cure as much as I do. 🙂 MAC please show Robert you appreciate his love of wearing MAC’s LS for many years.

I like it. It actually reminds me more of Rebel than Heroine. It should be “pure rebel”!

Have you seen the Rebel nail polish, Vanessa? It’s SO pretty!
