I feel suddenly compelled to do wind sprints while eating a ? chocolate-chip cookie. Admittedly, I don’t even know if that’s possible…but where there’s a will (and a desire to eat cookies), there’s a way! Thanks, MAC Kiesza collection! 🙂
It just so happens that Kiesza sings one of the songs on my sprinting playlist.
Dude, that song makes me haul @ss!
Her new petite four-piece MAC collaboration comes out next week, and the two standout items are a couple of chocolatey delicious browns. There’s a new Matte Lipstick called Dearly Beloved ($17) and a new Vamplify Lipgloss called Thunder Kiss ($21).
There are also two other items in the collection, both of them re-promotes from the permanent line. There’s Big Brow Pencil in Cork ($21) and Liquidlast Liner in Point Black ($21), but eh — you can get those any old time.
Matte Lipstick in Dearly Beloved ($17)
Just when I feel ready to say “I’m Audi 5000” to ’90s-style matte brown lips (hey, I wore them enough to last three lifetimes), MAC comes out with another beautiful one. And it’s beautiful! It’s a warm brown with pink undertones, and it isn’t muddy or patchy looking at all, unlike so many browns.
Ooh! That pinkness really tones this shade down, and I LIKE. My pet peeve about most matte dark brown lipsticks is that they make me look like I’m about to throw down. They’re just so stark and, I dunno…aggro? But the pink in this makes it more approachable and waaaay less scary. I bet if I were wearing it and you bumped into me in a dark alley you’d think I was about to offer you tea and crumpets, as opposed to a beat down.
Vamplify Lipgloss in Thunder Kiss ($21)
As for Vamplify Lipgloss in Thunder Kiss, OMG! — it looks like I melted a bag of Toll House cookies and smeared them all over my lips…but in the best possible way.
This one is dark and shiny chocolate perfection. It feels like a Cremesheen, so it isn’t sticky, but it IS super moisturizing (and like Dearly Beloved, it has that trademark MAC vanilla flavor and scent).
Liquidlast Liner in Point Black ($21)
I have a love-hate relationship with the MAC Liquidlasts. First, they just last SO LONG. As in too long. They’re downright hard to remove. I can rub and rub at my eyes, and they won’t lift off at all.
And then there’s the brush applicator… It’s a tad too flexible, and I have a tough time finagling a straight line with them.
*sigh* Makeup struggles… 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

I don’t know. The browns may be pretty and such, but I really want other colors for spring.
Karen says
Yeah, I’m ready for brights!
Kiss & Make-up says
Oh nice, suits ya!
On an unrelated side not: I just had some dark chocolate. Nom nom nom…
Karen says
I’m more of a milk chocolate or a semi-sweet chocolate kind of girl…

Brown lipsticks don’t usually look good on me, they always look great on you! Mac is going crazy with all these new collections recently!
Karen says
You’re lucky you missed the ’90s because you couldn’t get away from it!
Happy Friday. 🙂
Jessica says
ooooh yes I LOVE those lippies!
Karen says
Yay! Don’t they look like melted chocolate?
Fran says
I usually look much better in cool browns than in warm browns, but the amount of pink in Dearly Beloved makes it interesting to me!
The print in that sweater looks great on you, Karen 🙂
Karen says
Hi Fran,
Thanks, girl! That’s my Target grandpa sweater, and it rocks my world.
I’m about to put on makeup… Are you wearing anything colorful or fun? I’m thinking it’s going to be a glitter liner kind of day.
Amy says
The lipstick almost looks like a nude. Keeps it from being TOO 90’s for me! I agree, very pretty!
Karen says
LOL! I totally get you. I lived through the brown matte lip craze the first time and don’t need to do it that intensely again. 🙂
What are you doing this weekend? How’s your pup?
Kim says
You know I’m stuck in the 90s with my lip color preferences so I’m glad to see all of these colors. 🙂 I do feel like they have more of a fall vibe, though.
Karen says
Hey Kim,
Definitely a fall vibe. I love fall makeup but I’m so ready for warm weather! HURRY UP, SPRING!
Rachel says
Dearly Beloved looks really pretty! Enough pink to balance out the brown, but I don’t need anymore lipsticks!
Karen says
LOL, Rachel, that’s what I tell myself every time I go to Sephora…
How are you and your two kitties doing?
Chris25 says
I agree with you about the pink tones in brown lipstick. I like a touch of peach in my brown lipsticks. I remember wearing Maybelline Wear n Go lipstick in Go Chocolate in 1999 and it was suuuppper dark!
Elena says
These are delicious!! They suit you very much! I can never resist a brown somehow, although I totally avoid it in the summer when I tan and get 3 shades darker!
Becky says
I love the matte lipstick-it really suits you. I have to say im a bit scared of brown lip shades though!
Rhia says
That actually is a nice brown. I normally would keep away from them, but that I like. That line about you offering tea and crumpets in a dark alley cracked me up!
Katie says
What a unique brown! I haven’t seen much quite like it. I’ll see if I can check this out in person! I like that it’s not too dark.
Dina says
I love that chocolatey matte color. Is it hard to rub off too? I need a lipstick that is hard to rub off. I have a bad habit of constantly licking my lips! Any suggestions anyone?
Dee says
Hilariously put! So true about a lot of browns giving off an angry expression. I love warm browns! They just feel much more inviting and sophisticated. I’m a little afraid of dark mattes though, does it crack in your lip lines when you smile???
Karen says
Hi Dee,
I didn’t have that issue with this particular matte brown. It’s very smooth!
