The MAC Jeremy Scott Eyeshadow X 29 Lo-Fi Palette: 3 Jazzy Ways to Work It

The new MAC Jeremy Scott Eyeshadow X 29 Palette in Lo-Fi ($75)

The beatbox-lookin’ MAC Jeremy Scott collection centerpiece Eye Shadow X 29: Lo-Fi palette contains 29 (!) powder eyeshadows, and LOTS of them are colorful.

It’s like someone poured a bag of Skittles into it.

Cute names!

First things first, swatched on my arms…this palette looks like a HOT mess. Several of the shadows swatch unevenly, which is kind of disconcerting (it’s $75 after all). One might logically assume that the rough arm swatches imply patchy application problems on lids, too, but that hasn’t been the case for me.

Patchy on arms, not so much on lids

So far I’ve done three different looks with this palette, and the shadows applied fairly evenly in all three. Blending hasn’t been bad either, and most of the shadows I’ve used look more pigmented on my lids than they do in arm swatches (weird!). I’ve also noticed very, very little fallout. Like almost none.

It would be easy to dismiss this palette based on arm swatches alone, but you really gotta get in there and work it to see what it can do. You gotta drive the car first, so to speak.

(FYI, when I wear some of the brighter shades, like the matte pink, red, purple and green, my eyes have been watering a little, which happens to me sometimes when I wear bright colors, so I’m not surprised by it.)

Here are three colorful ways to wear it. 🙂

1. Soft and smoky red, pink and orange with a pop of purple in the outer corner

  • Upper crease and lower lash line — a matte orange (Disco Therapy) mixed with a satiny coral (Endless Frequency)
  • Inner lid — a matte red (Walking Heartbeats) mixed with a matte hot pink (Bird’s Eye View)
  • Outer corner — a matte purple (Club New Wave) mixed with a matte dark purple (Club New Waves Mix)
  • Inner corner — a shimmery copper (Creative Copper)
  • Water lines — a black pencil liner (Chanel 88 Noir Intense)

Me too! It is so detailed and looks shockingly similar to the real thing!

Off topic I think you asked in an earlier post about removing glue from lash bands. I dip a Q-tip into eye makeup remover, press it gently into the blue on the lash band for a few seconds, and then it slips right off.

Oh cool! Thanks for the tip! Whenever Dear Husband is not around and I have a spare hour or so, I keep trying to master the false lashes. I have small eyes with a really curved lash line, so I think instead of just trimming the ends I might cut them in the middle and over lap the two pieces next time. Because I’ll get one end down and the other end will stick out because I can’t get the band curved enough to fit the shape of my lash line. So far, I’m finding the little groups of individual lashes easier to apply.
I really appreciate all your help!

You’re welcome! What glue are you using, btw? Duo? I have to say that my fave of all time is the glue that comes with the Urban Decay falsies. It’s REALLY good.

Good call to cut the lashes in two because it makes it so much easier. 🙂 You might even want to cut them into thirds, even.

Thirds! Never thought of that. It would make them more like those small grouped lashes I’ve seen. I’ve been using Duo (because that’s what I found in the drugstore near me). I find it stays sticky/tacky for quite some time after I’ve applied my lashes. I’ve been wanting to get the Urban Decay pencil liner in Hustle and Demolition, so maybe I’ll order a set of lashes from them at the same time, just to get the glue. Once again, I really appreciate all the tips.

Okay – SOLD. I need to see this in person at the very least. I’m sure hitting my eye shadow brush with some Fix it after loading it with shadow would help the situation. The bright colors do make me a little hesitant but that packaging is everything!

      Hi Lexi,

It helps a lot, as does using a Paint Pot underneath. Soft Ochre is really handy for the yellows and greens. Next time I do something with the pinks I’m gonna grab Perky!

You’re welcome! I hope you like the palette. It’s cute and pretty versatile, too! You might be able to use the cray colors on the girls if/when they do performances for school and whatnot.

I’m thinking Connor may have missed that gene. She still doesn’t get princesses quite yet! I’m sure it’s only a matter of time?!

Karen, these are nice looks, except the yellow shadow is not flattering on most people. except for those with very deep skin tones. The reddish look is gorgeous on you. You are so photogenic!

Thanks Carmen! I’ve seen it on some girls with lighter skin tones and it’s more of an edgy/creative look. Still cool! Just different. How’s your day going so far? I’ve been running errands all morning and am happy to finally be back to my keyboard. Connor is down for her nap so it’s time to write, WOOT!

The yellow look is so amazing on you, but I fear with my pale skin it would look off.
