Gah, spring needs to hurry up and get here already! I know we need the rain, but the gloomy weather weighs on my soul.
I tried to change my outlook yesterday with flowers, looking online for spring bouquets. I thought about this freesia and rose bouquet by Martha Stuart but chickened out at the last second.
Instead, I reached for similar colors — peach, green and pink — and tried to use them in a spring-inspired makeup look.
I used a few MAC Hello Kitty products for the lips and cheeks and some MAC Metal Urge Pigments on the eyes.
I figure if we can’t change the weather, at least we can change our makeup. 🙂
How to get the eyes
I start the party by patting a thin layer of MAC Paint Pot in Delft (a shimmery greenish gold) on the lid and just into the crease with a MAC 249 Large Shader Brush, trying to transition the color intensity from where it’s most intense on the lid, to where it’s least intense as it moves into the crease.
Time to go green! I grab my MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush and layer MAC Pigment in Spiritualize (a shimmery yellowish green with silver and gold flecks) directly on top of Delft.
Just like with Delft, I try to concentrate most of the color on the lid.
Next, I want to add a color to accentuate the green and further define the crease, so I grab my trusty MAC 217 Blending Brush and sweep MAC Pigment in Cocomotion (a shimmery gold with olive undertones) into the crease.
Here, I’m doing my best to blend Spiritualize seamlessly into Cocomotion…
Then, I add a subtle pink shade on my brow bone to accentuate the gold in my crease, patting on MAC Expensive Pink eyeshadow (a shimmery pinkish gold) with the MAC 217.
Again, I try my best to get the colors of Cocomotion and Expensive Pink to blend together smoothly.
Next, it’s time to define the eyes, and I do that by lining the upper and lower lash lines with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Underground (a shimmery brown).
Almost done with the eyes!
Because I never seem to get enough sleep, I like to pop a light shade into my inner corner because I feel it makes my eyes look less tired. Here, I add Expensive Pink on the inner corner of the eye with the MAC 239.
I think it helps to brighten up the look…
After I finish with the shadow and liner, I wrap up the rest of the look in a tidy lil’ bow by filling in my brows, covering up my dark circles and then curling my lashes.
After adding two coats of Chanel Exceptionnel, a mascara that creates ultra-dramatic lashes, I’m all done with the eyes.
Cheeks and lips
Now, I’m ready to get my Hello Kitty on with peach cheeks and a peachy pink lip!
For the cheeks, I mix both MAC Hello Kitty Fun & Games Blush and Tahitian Sand Beauty Powder and sweep the mixed shades onto the apples of my cheeks with a MAC 129 Powder/Blush Brush.
Finally, I apply one layer of MAC Hello Kitty Cute-Ster Lipstick directly from the tube and top that off with MAC Hello Kitty Sweet Strawberry Lipglass on my lips.
Woo hoo! Spring has sprung (almost)! 🙂

This is adorable! I want spring to come here as well. This week is bitterly cold in my town, brrrr.
Btw, I saw Tabs’ twin sister last Saturday. She meowed softly at me and my friend but did not follow us home. Since she’s well-behaved and friendly, I think she really is my neighbor’s kitty, not a stray. A neighbor of mine has cats that like to wander around all the time so I hope she’s one of them.

I’ve been doing looks with almost those same colors! I’ve been using the pinks and purple from my Dior Petal Shine quint and then popping a little green in the outer corner with Warm Chill from MAC’s Cool Heat collection! Cheeks are the Blonde MSF for a shimmery, rosy cheek! Yummy sorbet-like pastels really improve my mood on a gloomy day!
I’m really loving Sweet Strawberry, I may have to cave if it’s still available anywhere! 🙂

I love this look on you! (Loving the hair scarf and earrings too!) Delft is gorgeous and I love all of the pigments you used. Do you just use them as loose powders, or do you do any of that pigment pressing stuff? (I’m too lazy and only have a few pigments, so I just keep them as is!)

Hi Dao,
I’m so over winter. Spring needs to get here, ASAP!
Oh, Tabs’ twin! Did you get to pet her? Maybe you can buy some kitty treats and just keep a few in your pocket for when you’re walking around your neighborhood. 🙂

Hi Glosslizard,
How pretty! It’s been a minute since I’ve had some bonding time with Cool Heat… I gotta bust out those colors if this weather keeps up.
Sweet Strawberry is the sweetest. 🙂 I hope you get it!

Thanks, hon! Are you a teal girl, too?
Karen says
Hi Gio,
Thanks very much! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Elle,
Delft is AWESOME. I can’t believe I lived without it for so long (it’s a recent addition to my Paint Pot crew).
For the pigments, I just keep ’em loose. I’m too lazy to press them. Plus, I figure if I wanted something pressed I could just buy an eyeshadow and save myself the time, ya know?
Karen says
Hi Luv J.,
Thanks, hon! 🙂 Are you ready for spring?
Karen says
Hi P. Potter,
They work great when it comes to bumping up the color intensity of shadows. A good neutral one to start with is Painterly. Rubenesque is a good one, too. 🙂
Jagoda says
Wow, gorgeous! This look really suits you :3
Scifi says
You look great! I love the look but I don’t know if it would work because the green/teal color looks pretty close to my eye color, and I don’t know how that would look. :/
Sylvie says
Hi Karen,
I have a question, is it because that the pictures of your eyes are close-up shots that the different colours used are discernible? I mean when I leave my house, even though I’ve used 3 eyeshadows, it still always looks like a generic smokey eye. I look at all these makeup blogs and there are always pictures of tastefully done eyes and I wonder if it’s because it’s close-up that the colours can be seen, and from far away it’s just a blended splash of colour.
Anyway, same question again- do you sponsor your own giveaways? (I’m not sure if you replied to that and I can’t remember where I’d asked you that question).
Karen says
Hi Sylvie,
How’ve you been? What’s the weather like in Paris today? For the closeups, it’s probably because the lighting makes the colors look a little different based on whether my hand is partially blocking some of the light and whether or not I’m using a flash. Sometimes it’s hard to predict. Also, for the closeup shots I put the camera into a different mode than it is on the longer shots. I try to say when I’m using a flash but sometimes I forget.
I do both for giveaways. Sometimes the giveaways are products sent from companies hoping for a review, and sometimes they’re just products that I got but didn’t have time to review individually. I’ve been trying to do more giveaways lately.

I love this look! you look great, you should seriously be a makeup artist as a side job!
i have pale skin, green eyes, and dark brown hair and i think this look would be good on me, I already own “expensive pink” but i plan on going to mac this week and buying delft, spiritualize, and cocomotion, as well as that brush…i already own UD eyeshadow in Underground so i feel like i could use that or maybe Mac Teddy as en eyeliner… thanks for the great look!

Catherine says
Hi Karen,
Totally! One of my favorite looks is using the light green from my KvD Ludwig palette all over my lid and then the gorgeous teal from the HIP Showy duo (I think it’s the MAC Parrot dupe) in the crease and the outer 1/3 of my bottom lashline. It’s so fun and bright and summery. 😀
I’ve always been really skeptical of Deflt when I see it on the MAC website, but now I think I have to consider this. It’s gorgeous on your lids and looks like something I could actually get a lot of use out of. Plus, Painterly is so boring, lol.
Sylvie says
Hahaha French people love to talk about the weather. We’ve been getting quite a bit of sun lately so that’s great! I’m not so depressed anymore because I no longer trudge to school and back in darkness. I was on a two-week “winter” break and I was surprised to see this morning that it was really bright at 7.45am! What else makes me happy is that Hello Kitty is coming out on Thursday. I’m just going to get a few lipglosses and two lipsticks (Most Popular and either Big Bow or Strayin’. Haven’t decided because I’m lemming Lickable cremesheen so if I get Lickable, I won’t get Strayin’. Terrible thing is, we won’t get Cremesheen anytime soon so I’m going to have to guess.)

Isn’t it exciting to have spring just be around the corner? I want it to hurry up, already.
I hope you had a nice Monday. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Mira,
Thanks hon! Pink and gold are really lovely colors to wear. I love ’em because they brighten up the face. Plus, they feel so springy. 🙂
How was your Monday? I hope it was a good one!
Karen says
Hi Jagoda,
Thanks! 🙂 Happy Monday!
Karen says
Hi Scifi,
How about a goldish purple instead of the green? That might work, too.
Karen says
Hi Shiny,
Holy cow that is COLD! How many layers do you have to put on to go outside?
Karen says
Hi Tami,
Thanks, my dear! Hmm… maybe this will give you an excuse to get some gold based teals and pinks. 🙂 You could also do this with any coordinating pink, brown and green eyeshadows and then use a concealer as a base to bump up the color.
Regarding the scarf, I got it in 2005 at a shop called Ambiance in San Francisco. I have a soft spot for it because I wore it all over Europe when El Hub and I went that year. Are you a scarf person, too?
I hope you had a lovely Monday!
Karen says
Hi Meghan,
I would love to be one… the trouble is I have a hard time applying it on other people. I’m afraid of poking someone’s eyes out. My mom let me practice on her once, but she quickly lost patience after the third pan of eyeshadow. 🙂
Oh, I’m so excited to hear that you’re going to try this look. I hope that it turns out well. If you end up taking pictures I hope you send me one so I can see how it turns out!
Bisbee says
I really love those colors! I have Delft, but hadn’t used it in a while – I’m going to try a similar look tomorrow! Now I remember that using Delft makes my eyes look REALLY green – and I am definitely ready for spring (even though we had snow here today)!
Tami says
Hello again Karen,
I do love scarves, but only have a small collection of them. In regards to the makeup look, I was doing some mental searching and believe I have colors in Tarte’s Vanity Palette that may work. If that doesn’t pan out, I could always use a trip to MAC:-)
Brandy says
This eye look is STUNNING!
Karen says
Hi Catherine,
Sounds really pretty. Thanks for the inspiration — I will have to try something similar with Parrot and (maybe?) Swimming.
I didn’t think much of Delft, either, until I saw it one of my favorite MAC mua’s wearing it! You won’t regret it. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Michelle,
I’m sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well. Are you feeling any better today?
Oh, and I totally believe in the healing powers of lipgloss. 😉
Karen says
Hi Jess,
Thanks hon! Things are good on this end — just busy chugging along with school. How’s it going with you?
Karen says
Hi Sandy,
Thank you! I am glad you like this look. Do you think you might try it?
Karen says
Hi Adriana,
Thanks. 🙂 I hope that it turns out well! Let me know how it turns out, okay?
Nina says
Oooh, I’m loving this look! I’ll definitely recreate this with my own stash!
Karen says
Hi Tami,
My scarf collection is pretty small, too. I have a handful from 2005, when I was going through a serious scarf phase. 🙂
I’m excited for your Tarte version of this look. I have a few Tarte palettes and think they’re great.
Oh, and a trip to MAC… that can never hurt!
Michelle says
Hi Karen,
Yeah I feel a little better, thanks for asking. The doc says I have a stomach bug and it could take up to a week to get better. Yikes! If this keeps up I just may end up ordering the rest of the HK products in my wish list LOL.

Hi Sylvie,
I am not too fond of walking to and from places in the dark, either. When I worked in SF a few years ago I hated leaving work at five and having to commute home in the pitch black night. NOT FUN! I definitely notice that the sun helps to cheer me up.
What did you do during your winter break? Did you relax, or did you take a few day trips?
That’s pretty exciting that you’re getting HK on Thursday. When you see the packaging in person it’s much cuter than it is in pics! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Bisbee,
Awesome! I am new to Delft — what do you like to pair it with?
Karen says
Hi Brandy,
Thank you!
Karen says
Hi Nina,
Yay! I hope it turns out well. 🙂 Please let me know what colors you end up using!
Karen says
Hi Michelle,
Oh no, that’s awful. I absolutely hate throwing up (it’s like my least favorite thing in the world, right next to earthworms, blech) and so I hope you get better quickly.
I have a sneaking suspicion that ordering the rest of the HK bits on your wish list will have amazing healing powers!
Karen says
Hi Tracy – Girl,
Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I’m happy and excited for you. 🙂
Are you set on doing your own makeup? If you can, I highly recommend springing for a makeup artist if you can fit it into your budget. I ended up hiring one for my wedding a few years ago, and I have to say that it reduced my stress level a ton on the big day.
Ali says
omg that looks sooo pretty! i really like the delft paint pot, thinking about buying it on my next trip to MAC! (heard it really makes Club stand out.. have you ever tried this combo before?) love your earrings btw! 🙂
Lina says
I love the lip combo you used! Gorgeous! Thanks for posting this.
Karen says
Hi Ali,
Thank you!
Would you’ve believe that I didn’t even think to use Club with Delft. I’ll have to try that combo when I find my pan (it’s MIA right now, boo!).
🙂
Karen says
Hi Lina,
Thank you! 🙂 I didn’t think the two colors would mesh well at first, but the experiment seems to have paid off. Do you have these colors, too?
Madeleine says
Karen 🙂
that is one beautiful makeup 🙂
With what MAC pencil would you replace Urban Decay Underground e/pencil that you had used?
Briana says
Ooh, thats a super cute look! Love it!
Briana´s last blog post..just a quick update…
Karen says
Hi Madeleine,
Thank you!
For the MAC replacement, I’d probably go with Graphic Brown Fluidline. I know it’s not a pencil, but it has the same sort of shimmer. It’s not on the MAC website, but you can ask your favorite counter if it’s still in stock.
Another option that I think would be cute would be Powersurge Kohl. It’s a shimmery bronzy brown that’s really pretty. It looks really pretty on the waterline, too. 🙂 Hope this helps!
Karen says
Hi Briana,
Thanks! 🙂 I hope you had a nice Tuesday. 🙂
Linda says
Nice colors. It looks like a really nice spring look. 😀

Looks amazing 🙂 I hope they still have some cute-ster lipstick by the time I get to Stockholm, it looks like such a versatile colour!

Hi Karen B.,
I hope they do, too. 🙂 It’s quickly becoming one of my favorite neutrals to wear.
How’s your week been?
