Seriously, how many times can one blogger say “Meow” about a makeup collection? But that’s how it makes me feel, so I’ll say it again: MEOW! It’s MAC Hello Kitty time. 🙂
My first reaction was mixed when I saw the promo pics for MAC’s latest collaboration. Sure, I was drooling over the branding and packaging from the start (I love Hello Kitty; always have), but the colors just didn’t look like stuff I could wear every day.
Well, color me lame and call me crazy because after seeing the collection in person last night, I’m fully on board now.
Matter of fact, a few stray kittens decided to follow me home last night: Eye Shadow 4 Lucky Tom palette, Tahitian Sand Beauty Powder, Fun & Games Beauty Powder Blush and Cute-Ster Lustre Lipstick.
The Lucky Tom Eyeshadow Palette Colors (from left to right): Creme Royal, Paradisco, Stylin’, Lucky Tom
Fun & Games Beauty Powder Blush
Tahitian Sand Beauty Powder
Cute-Ster Lipstick
Tabs was riled up this morning and snipping at my ankles because he hadn’t received his pre-ordered Lucky Tom palette yet. I had to tear him away from mine (did I mention he’s OBSESSED with HK?) long enough to do my face of the day.
For the eyes, I started with a thin layer of Perky Paint Pot over the eyelid.
Then, with Tabs locked in the other room, I went to work with the eyeshadows, patting Paradisco on the lid and Creme Royal inside the inner corner of the eye.
Next, I lined the upper lash line with Stylin’ and the lower line with a mix of Lucky Tom and Creme Royal.
To finish the eyes, I curled my lashes and added two layers of MAC Dazzlelash mascara (it happened to be nearby).
Now, for meow lips… (couldn’t resist) 🙂
I lined them with Pink Treat Cremestick Liner topped off with a layer of Cute-Ster Lipstick and some MAC Lipglass in Clear.
After blowing myself a kiss in the mirror I moved on to the cheeks.
I patted Fun & Games Beauty Powder Blush onto the apples of my cheeks and for some added glow swept Tahitian Sand Beauty Powder down the bridge of my nose, over my chin and on my upper cheeks.
The weather needs to hurry up and get warm because I can’t wait to wear this look with a bright summer dress. 🙂
Hello Kitty 4-EVA!

This is such a cute look!
I do wonder how different the beauty powder is from the blush though? Can you use the beauty powder essentially as a blush or is it more sheer and meant for a highlighter all over?
Kate says
Oh, that’s pretty. Very peaches and cream. The lipstick is gorgeous.
Very cute packaging. I’m not big on Hello Kitty herself, but the other characters are very cute. I like printing coloring pages of Hello Kitty. Very mindless coloring.
The blush and powder are a little too peachy for my skintone. My skin has a very strange tone. It’s both yellow and pink but more pink than yellow. Where’s a semi-recent picture when I need one? :digs through Facebook pictures:
I found one!!!! Okay, granted it’s from 2007 but I still have the same hair do and skin. Ignore the guy on the right (he was my best male friend not a boyfriend), I’m on the left if that isn’t obvious enough. I’m probably a bit paler now as I’ve been inside all winter. The red nose and cheeks are natural, by the way. I wore no foundation or tinted moisturizer that night.
Crapastic picture of 2007 moi (no laughing and yes, my guyfriend is only 5’3″ so I was actually taller than him in the heels)-> http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v72/63/70/1144560621/n1144560621_30048331_5377.jpg
How was your workout? It was so nice today, I got to take Zena on a fifteen minute walk! I got my Vitamin D processing time finally! It was absolutely gorgeous at my house today. It was the lower 60s! Not bad for February in the Midwest! Let’s pray it stays!
lesley says
Um, this is really, really *cuuuuuute*!!! And very appropriate for various venues I think. I’m glad I finally found someone who’s wearing Tahitian Sand, Fun and Games, and Cute-ster because those three items are literally the only ones I was eyeing from the collection. Well, I guess the brush set and some of the accessories, too… but only as back-ups if I didn’t end up liking any of the makeup. 🙂
Thank you so much for posting this, Karen!!
ParisB says
Lovely look! The beauty powders look a tad too warm for me though and I’m still not loving the cutesy HK imprinted but hey, its going to FLY off MAC’s shelves 🙂
Julia says
Hi Karen!
These colors are MADE for you- you look gorgeous! I helped myself to a Hello Kitty haul at both Nordies and the Mac store today, and now I am thinking I need to go back and get the Lucky Tom quad. And maybe Tahitian Sand….
Karen says
Hi Christina,
The Beauty Powder is much more sheer than the blush. It has a sheen to it, rather than straight up shimmer (more glow than sparkle). You can use to accent the cheeks, but depending on your skin tone it might/might not very pigmented (it’s not very much on me). I will try to do a FOTD with just the BP in a few days. 🙂
Scifi says
I love Hello Kitty and I am in love with Cute-ster! I’m glad I waited on those Cremeteam Lipsticks (for once my indecisiveness paid off.)
But now I’m can’t decide if I want two Cute-sters or one Cute-ster and that Popster Lip Conditioner.
But either way, Cute-ster will be mine!
Karen says
Hi Kate,
Oh! You look so cute in that pic. I love the dress… so classic, plus the touch of pink peeking out at the bottom adds a fun touch. Plus, your hair and makeup look great!
My dance class yesterday was fun. My teacher kicked our butts at the end with some breakdancing. I’m terrible at it, but I make an attempt to do it because it makes me sweat. 🙂
Lucky you to have such nice weather! It’s been raining like crazy here right now, boo.
I’m off to watch Law & Order: SVU…
Karen says
Hi Lesley,
You’re welcome! 🙂 I hope you like the makeup when you play with it in person. It surprised me to find out it was so wearable.
Let me know what you end up getting!
Marisol says
Booooo! I won’t be getting anything from this collection & I know that in a few weeks I will feel like I missed out but I need to save my moola for my upcoming move. I think I may have found an apartment so that is the priority right now.
You look fierce Karen!

Karen says
Hi Paris B.,
Thanks!
Oh, this is kinda random but I spritzed some Body Shop Moroccan Rose today and thought of your post. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Julia,
Oh, lovely! Have you had the chance to play with your goodies yet? What’s your favorite?
Karen says
Hi Scifi,
Not to be your MAC makeup pusher (LOL), but Popster looks REALLY CUTE in person. I was *this close* to getting it, but decided against it because I hate dipping my finger in the jar (so lazy).
I hope you like Cute-Ster… I’m going to try it with Sublime Culture liner next to see how it looks when it’s less pink!
Karen says
Hi Marisol,
Hey girl! That’s great news. 🙂 What neighborhood are you thinking about?
I think one of these days we’re destined to run into each other at the MAC counter!
Nicole says
Thank you for this look! =) You used to the two things I really had my eye on (the blush and the beauty powder). You look so ready for the beach! I know they’re done all over the net, but one day you should totally do a eyeshadow tutorial. I love your eye looks!
Scifi says
I think I’ll probably get two Cute-sters. :/ If I got Popster the main reason would be is that the packaging is cute beyond belief. 😉 And I’ve already got colors close enough to it.
On a note completely unrelated to my Sanrio addiction, do you think the HK collection will wind up in Cosmetic Company stores? I would definitely get it there, but since it’s both Sanrio and MAC, I’m not sure it would/could be sold. Contract Breachings and whatnot.
Tekoa says
Peach purrfection! Do you think Fun and Games is too peachy for NC15? Oh, I cannot wait!
Marisol says
The apartment I am checking out tomorrow is in the Richmond District between California & Lake. It’s a cute 1 bedroom apartment.
We are so destined to meet one day!
nai says
karen, it’s all your fault!!!
i so was not planning on going to nordstrom when i left home for another day of the daily grind. it wasn’t even a thought. but i ended up browsing the previous hello kitty mac entry during my lunch break, and i couldn’t stop thinking about it in the five hours afterwards. when i met the sweets for dinner, i told him i was going to the mac counter to pick up a yakudoshi (here’s a link explaining this tradition: http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2006/Mar/18/il/FP603180319.html) for the sweet’s friend’s girlfriend. all he said was, “don’t take too long–remember, you have homework to do!” i nodded obediently.
i didn’t mention i’d shop for myself as well. *guilt*
anyway, i ended up getting the too dolly e/s kit, tahitian sand beauty powder, and most popular lippy. i won’t say what i got as the gift in case the soon to be bday girl reads this. i am thinking about picking up fun and games and the cutester. i wasn’t so thrilled with how they looked in the store and didn’t even bother swatching them, but since i’m only a shade or two fairer than you, maybe they’ll work on me?
anyway, i wanted to tell you that in the best of all possible ways you are my drug dealer. cept it’s the makeup that’s my meth, coke, and crack all in one. i swear, you get me to the makeup counter quicker and with more frequency than the cosmetic companies’ own ads or websites do. haaaaaaw, i just wish it wouldn’t dent my wallet so, especially when we’re in a recession…*cries*
Joanne says
Hi Karen!
Love the look! I keep regretting on not buying the eye palette that you have. *sigh* I wasn’t going to buy any HK mac until the 12th, but when I went to the mall today to return stuff, I saw the HK collection at Macys and gasped! I couldn’t wait till the 12th ’cause I knew it would be sold out by then. So I took home 2 lipglosses (“mimmy” and “she loves candy”) and the other eye palette. I keep telling myself that the other palette (lucky tom) are similar colors that I have and I can somehow recreate the look with what I got and just get the other palette to change up my eye shadow collection. I was almost close to buying a pigment that was a dark blue green, but wasn’t convinced on buying it because it didn’t have HK on it =(, but the color was sooo pretty!
Julia says
This is absolutely gorgeous on you. Honestly one of my favorite looks yet!
Miss QQ says
Hi Karen. This look is beautiful. Cutester and Lucky Tom are already in my list, while Fun & Games and Tahitian Sand are in my maybe list. I don’t know if Fun & Games will be too orange on me, and if Tahitian Sand will show up. Do you have Pretty Baby? Do you like Tahitian sand or Pretty Baby more?
YadiQ says
ok you completely made my day !
now i cant wait for my lucky tom to get here!
i am questioning the other palette though boo!!
Nessa says
Love the peachy goodness. Looks awesome on you!

Karen says
Hi Nicole,
You’re welcome. 🙂 I felt like these colors were beachy, too, which is why I think I was attracted to ’em!
Do you think you’re going to pick up the powder and the blush? I hope so.
One of these days when I have a big chunk o’ time I’ll try to do an eye tut…
Karen says
Hi Tekoa,
MEOW! What does Luna say about HK? 😉
I’m guessing you could totally rock the Fun and Games as it’s pretty light. I find the BP blushes to be much more sheer than the regular MAC blushes so the color’s much less intense. If it’s still too much you could also use a fan brush to apply, too.
Karen says
Hi Marisol,
Oh, I heart the Richmond! That’s my old stomping ground (I lived in the outer Richmond). Hopefully your new place is near one of the AX or BX lines so your commute is shorter… the regular 38 line takes FOREVER.
We will probably run into each other in the produce center of Safeway or something, LOL! Or maybe in the Sonia Kasuk brush aisle at Target.
Karen says
Hi Nai,
Thank you for sending that link. I always love learning about new things. I guess I’m in the midst of my yakudoshi right now. I have about five months left… I better make the most of it!
Oh, your haul sounds so fab! I thought about Most Popular but in the end Cute-Ster won. Girl, let me tell you — when I go to the mall I bring my BIG PURSE. That way I if I end up buying stuff I can just sneak it back into the house without El Hub asking me questions, ha!
Regarding Fun and Games Blush and Cute-Ster, I think you’ll be able to get away with both colors. They are both pretty sheer and very peachy… I think they’ll look great on you. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Joanne,
Oh, I liked that pigment, too. I wonder why they decided to skip the HK logo on it… it would’ve looked much cuter if they added it, yah?
It’s funny — I felt the same way about the Too Dolly palette when I saw it! 🙂 Did you get the chance to play with it yet? How are you liking it so far?
Karen says
Hi Miss QQ,
I originally wanted both the BP’s, but when I swatched Pretty Baby and it looked too chalky on me. If you’re lighter than I am and have a cooler tone it will probably look better on you, though! 🙂
Karen says
Hi YadiQ,
Girl, you know you are gonna rock the brights in Too Dolly! 🙂
The purple in Lucky Tom is so much fun. I want to wear it on the lid with some false lashes… woo hoo!
When are you leaving for Jamaica? Is the countdown on yet?
Karen says
Hi Nessa,
Thanks! Do you think you’ll be picking up any bits from this collection?
Karen B says
So so pretty. I have to get some, I need to get to Stockholm sooner than planned… most definitely!
YadiQ says
i leave for jamaica march 9th i am not counting down just yet !!!
but i am so excited! we are going to ocho rios – i am taking advantage of the caribbean weather to really play up my eye looks lol the cruise i did before i had to be a bit conservative with my eye looks cause it was a lot of older people and they’d look at me like i was crazy lol ( i did sneak in some blues and orange in my eyes lol)
i was in a hello kitty mood yesterday and i did a hello kitty inspired eye look with urban decay deluxe shadows! too bad i didn’t take a pic ! it was kinda cute lol
Jess says
I’ve ordered the Oh Dolly eye palette and can’t wait to try it out when it arrives! I liked the Lucky Tom one too, but the colors were similar to shades I already have so I decided to try something different. I had to order something though — the packaging is too cute to pass up 🙂
Thanks for the post!
Martha says
sadly MAC x HK doesn’t come out in england till march =[
I love that lipstick it’s really cute this is also the palette that i want to buy, i’m not sure about beauty powders or blushes yet, i think that’s just something you need to try for yourself.
I love this look! =]
Martha´s last blog post..Let me be snap happy.
Stephie says
Ohh! I love how fresh that FOTD is. I felt the same way too, when I say the promotional pics but as soon as I saw swatches I was like HEYYY, gotta get me some. 😛 I am picking up the palette today so maybe I shall rock that look for a long day of classes tomorrow 🙂
wendy says
Love the Hello Kitty items. I just ordered them and simply can’t wait to get them. Your look is wonderfull, as always! <3
Kate says
Karen,
Thanks. I ironically didn’t do much for makeup. A set of falsies, eyeliner and mascara and a peachy lipstick. That’s it! The gods graced me with no breakouts that day although the next week I had one.
My nice, sun-shiny weather went away. It’s now cold and rainy! At least it’s raining and not snowing. I can’t stand another day of snow.
See, the great thing about a dog is that I don’t need a workout class to stay fit. I get all the exercise I need from either walking Zena or playing with her. I can’t run worth crap but I can walk forever and do about a million crunches. Tug-of-war with Zena makes for good standing crunches and arm exercise. My arms hurt when I finally get the toy away from her mouth! Small body, lots of strength.
Glosslizard says
Very lovely! Tabs’ll have to get his own! 🙂
Victoria R. says
awesome look!
i HAVE to get that lipstick!
Michelle says
Wow that blush looks great on you! I can’t wait to see the collection in person. I think I really like the Tahitian Sand BP but i’ll need to make sure it isn’t too dark for my skin tone.
Milan says
Very pretty! Thanks for posting this. I’m looking for various ways to use these palettes.
Tami says
Hey Karen,
You look awesome as always. I ran into Macy’s today and left with the Lucky Tom palette, Big Bow lipstick and Sweet Strawberry lipglass. I started to get the Fun n’ Games blush but it reminded me of the Spaced Out blush from the Neo Scifi collection. I can’t wait to mimmick your eye look and will probably talk the hubby into buying me more HK for love day lol!
nancy says
This look is gorgeous on you!! I can’t wait to receive my Hello Kitty things in the mail! 🙂
wehkwas says
You’re purdy! Is it just me or is every person who comments on this page has proper grammar and perfect punctuation? Seriously! I have to commit every time I comment just so my comment doesn’t stand out like a sore thumb. But this look is pretty. I wasn’t really excited about this line but I really want to try this look.
Karen says
Hi Karen B.,
I hope you get to play with the line soon. 🙂
When are you planning to go to Stockholm?
Karen says
Hi YadiQ,
NICE! That’s just around the corner! I will have to live vicariously through you when you go.
I’ve never been on a cruise but I saw a show with Samantha Brown a few months ago and the one she went on looked like so much fun. I hope to go on one soon.
Aw, I wish you took a pic of your HK look! Next time you better send me one. Which palette did you use?
Karen says
Hi Jess,
Sure! I hope that you like your new palette — I swatched that one and thought it was really purty, too. Let me know what looks you end up doing with yours. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Martha,
At least February is a short month! March is just around the corner and soon enough you’ll be saying hello to the kitty. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Stephie,
Yay! Did you get your palette? Have you dug into it yet?
Karen says
Hi Wendy,
Thank you! I hope you let me know what you think of your HK items. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Kate,
Ah, I love moments like that when skin actually decides to behave. 🙂
I have never lived in a place that snows so I can’t even imagine how cold it must get. I was on the phone with somebody from Canada earlier today and they told me that they were having warm weather — a balmy 5 degrees, LOL! They had no sympathy when I told them it was 50 and rainy and “cold.”
I miss having a dog to walk! One day I hope to have one again. I just hope he/she gets along with Tabs.
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Thank you!
Tabs has full on HK obsession. Now he insists I call him “Lucky Tom.”
Karen says
Hi Victoria R.,
Thanks!
When you try it on it might look less pink — the Pink Treat liner really brings out the pink in this lip look. 🙂
I hope you like it though… it’s very nude and classic looking.
Karen says
Hi Michelle,
It’s *very* sheer! If you are pale then you might even be able to pull it off as a blush. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Milan,
Thank you m’dear! I am always looking for new ways to use palettes, too. If you whip up a look that you love you’ll have to tell me about it!
Karen says
Hi Tami,
Oh yeah — it is reminiscent of Spaced Out. You know, thinking about Neo Sci Fi still brings me joy. That was one of my favorites from last summer.
I hope the hubby shows some HK love this Valentine’s Day!
Karen says
Hi Nancy,
Thanks! When are you getting your loot, and what you most excited about?
Karen says
Hi Wehkwas,
Thank you!
LOL, I’ve noticed that, too. No worries — if there’s ever anything you want to correct just email me and I’ll fix it.
I hope that you swing by MAC and play with these colors soon. They are surprisingly wearable.
Kate says
I remember when I lived in a place that never snowed and that place was Texas. Actually, we had an ice storm once but I don’t remember that. We had very little in Arizona on Fort Huachuca while I was there when I was 2.5 and it pretty much rained in Bavaria when I lived there from birth–2.5. And then I moved to Colorado and experienced my first blizzard. I thought it was pretty until I sank in the 5 foot deep snow!!! Needless to say, I’ve hated snow since then. I hate it more than rain.
When you and el hub are ready to look for a dog, here are a few pieces of advice that my family follows:
1. Do NOT buy from a pet store. Statistics show 99% of dogs in pet stores are from puppy mills. This means they not only came from deplorable conditions but may have genetic defects that are unknown. We bought my previous dog Kimo from a pet store and she died at 3 and a half years old. Her death was so horrifying that I have nightmares of her dying nearly two years later.
2. Research on breeds you want. The Animal Planet website has a great quiz you can take that shows you breeds that are most compatible with your lifestyle. There’s nothing worse than adopting or purchasing a pet that does not fit your family. We adopted Zena because we wanted a purebred Rat Terrier because they kinda have an off button and they still warn us of people coming. Zena, as a Decker, is taller and rarer than the standard Rat Terrier (there are about 400 Decker Rat Terriers).
3. If you want to adopt from a breeder, make sure they are not only reputable BUT also certified and have pictures online. We adopted Zena from a NRTA (National Rat Terrier Association) and UKC (United Kennel Club) certified breeder. Her previous owner (Ms. Cindy Schriber) is very nice and we still keep in touch. Ms. Schriber whelps all puppies in the home, come with guaranteed health certificates and first vaccinations and are very well socialized to other animals (she has 3 cats and a million dogs practically) and humans. I’ll leave her website for you in case you wish to check her out (one of her dogs, Rosie, just had 7 puppies).
4. If you adopt from a Rescue Shelter (like Greyhound Rescue and I do recommend Greyhounds as their quiet, gentle, love to run when you want to run, and have high tolerance to other animals) or animal shelter, check out each dog individually and ask if you can bring Tabs with you once you’ve narrowed down the dogs. It’s best to have them meet in neutral territory and see if they get along. Most rescue shelters have an in-home trial where you can bring the dog home for a few days to see if it fits in before adopting. Make sure you can get a health guarantee and most shelters will spay/neuter for free.
Here’s Ms. Schriber’s site if you wish to take a peek (the puppies are adorable): http://www.imageevent.com/pecatonica/ She is very, very nice and will answer any and all of your questions no matter how stupid it is. She replies to voice-mail and e-mail in a timely fashion (usually 24 hours for e-mail). She is honestly one of the best breeders we’ve met. The NRTA also has listings of Rat Terrier breeders in a variety of states (California has TWELVE. Wow).
Sorry for the long post about dog searching but I feel that as someone who has owned four lovely doggies, there is a wealth of info to be shared. And now, I must go look at other Rat Terrier puppies and aww over them even though I can’t have another.

May be a dumb question, but I have just recently started using and purchasing MAC cosmetics, and I love love love them, I was wondering if the colors in the Lucky Tom palatte are available separately? I have seen paradisco, and fell in love with it, but I do not see the yellow or purple.
