Neat and New to Me
Unlike my Unsung Heroes series, which features permanent collection products I’ve known and loved a long time, the Neat and New to Me series showcases permanent collection products that slipped under my radar for a while, but then I discovered them! — and now I think they’re neat and new to me.
Ginger!
I am surrounded by ginger…
I’ve been drinking a lot of ginger ale this week because my tummy’s been obnoxiously gurgly, and I’ve also been, at times, simultaneously wearing MAC Gingerly Blush ($22).
Maybe this is more than a coincidence…or maybe it isn’t, and I just have a need to find deep connections between totally unrelated things (story of my life).
Gingerly totally hearts bronzed skin. This warm matte peachy brown lends a lovely natural flush to tan skin (highly recommended if you’re around an NC35 and up), and for this I love it!
Lighter lasses might love it, too. Some of my paler pals describe it as a warm, rich terra cotta on their skin, but they also say that it can sometimes look orangey.
Gingerly is part of the normally subtle MAC Sheertone Blush family, but I’m not exactly sure why that is…because it looks very pigmented on my NC42 skin.
I really like how it warms my skin tone, and I also like that the finish, while matte, isn’t totally flat. Plus, it’s easy to blend.
Give it a try one of these days with an intense eye look or a vibrant lip. For me, when I wear a bold element, sometimes I look a little tired without some extra warmth on my cheeks, which Gingerly nicely adds. 🙂
PRICE: $22

Where do you stand on the important issue of ginger?
It’s a very divisive plant, isn’t it? — like cilantro. Some people love the stuff, and some people don’t. In that way it’s also like thumb rings and French tip nails…
I don’t mind a little bit when it’s sweet, like in ginger ale or ginger snaps, but I’m usually NOT down with ginger in most culinary dishes. I guess my tastebuds are really sensitive to it, because sometimes when it’s in a dish, it’s the only thing I can taste.
My brother is the total opposite. He can literally gnaw on a piece of ginger root all afternoon, which is kind of funny considering that he used to be terrified of ginger when he was a kid.
Because when we were little, my mom would bring us with her to the grocery store, and I’d grab a piece of ginger (usually the piece that looked most like the gnarled hand of an evil wizard) and chase him around the store with it.
HAHA! Good times…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I agree! This is my holy grail blush. It’s the only one I have ever finished and repurchased. 🙂

You know, for a ginger, I don’t really like ginger. I drink ginger ale rarely because carbonation and I don’t get along. And ginger candy… Just not my thing. I’ll stick to my ginger hair.
This is a pretty blush on you, but it’s definitely the type that would muddy up my freckles.

I need this! I’m naturally pale and freckly and it’d probably look less than attractive on my natural skin tone, but I also self-tan myself WAY darker and love anything that looks amazing with a tan.
I like ginger, but mostly in less sweet forms. Ginger ale is good (especially with gin!) and I like that pickled stuff they give you with sushi. On a beauty related note though, anyone that likes ginger and citrus neeeeds to check out Mandarine Glaciale from Atelier Cologne. I find most citrus scents too sharp and acidic and maybe similar to cleaning products, but this one has a big punch of spicy ginger that makes it smell SO good. It’s lasting power is basically crap, but I don’t mind because it gives me an excuse to throw on another spritz regularly. Obsessed.

I love the look of gingerly but I’ve not tried it on me I’m pale naturally but I do love the shade I’ll have to try it out next time I’m at MAC.
I LOVE ginger though! not so much in sweets, besides things like ginger snaps, but I love it when I’m cooking! Cilantro on the other hand….bleh

One of my absolute favorite blushes. I’m a huge fan of the sheertone blushes. My go to for meetings when I need to get that professional look. Lovely flush of color.

I think I may need to add this to my MAC order I’m working on right now. Also, would love to know what else you’re wearing in the photo!

Karen! I just needed to say that this look is so so on point. Love it.

Is it weird I want this blush solely because I am a ginger?

Gosh, that is gorgeous! I’m really trying to expand my blush buying habits to ones other than golden peach shades because I must own at least 20 of them by now! So I’m really excited about this shade, I’m going to have to add it to my collection!

Pretty! I really like this one.

Ah, ginger ale! My favorite. You should try the 365 brand from Whole Foods, or any of the independent brands from somewhere like Cost Plus World Market. So zesty and sweet. And the little chewy ginger candies called Gin-Gins by The Ginger People. Good for travel.

Gingerly is quite pretty. Ironically enough, I saw it when I was at the MAC counter the other day & swatched it on the back of my hand. It didn’t seem deep enough for my skin tone but I feel like I should actually try it on my cheeks to really guage how it would look on me. And as for ginger, I’m with you. I’m not a fan of it in culinary dishes, most especially with sushi. But I could drink ginger ale all day. Soooo soothing to my tummy.

That’s a great shade. It’s not very sheer!
As for Ginger the food, I’m all about ginger beer! I love it some dishes if it’s the star, because like you if there is too much I taste it more than some of the other ingredients and it makes the dish taste unbalanced.
I do eat a crap ton of pickled ginger whenever I go to Sushi though! It compliments Sapporo beer quite well!

I love ginger, and cilantro! They make any dish taste exotic to me.
This is a very nice blush too. It reminds me a little of the new Balm Desert by theBalm, except that one has a sheen.

I despise ginger. Maybe everyone recommends it as a cure for my motion sickness, so I automatically relate it to getting sick.

This looks great on you and I’m sure I can rock it too! But I have too many peach toned blushes already I need to use up. When I order shrimp Lo Mein from Pei Wei I ask them to add ginger and extra shrimp, spicy and yummy! I like ginger ale too especially for a upset stomach.

Love Canada Dry ! Has a nice bite to it. My uncle gave me some candied ginger from the health food store to help my stomach but, it’s way too strong to nibble and suck on like candy : / . So, I put it in my green smoothies ( just a small piece) it really helped! And you know green smoothies keep everything running smoothly (tmi) lol.
Love this blush on you!
I’m allergic to Mac and Chanel blushes.
Do have any close dupe suggestions?
Such a bummer………
By the way girl, my Friday night was pretty dry. LOL

i am thrilled to find your blog! Am NC 35-NC40 sometimes. Its great to find someone of a similar colouring recommending stuff based on personal use 🙂 except that……reading thru your archives…..your love for make up leaves me a lil confused. You love everything!!! Or at least you love loads of stuff….so narrowing down choices aint easy…..

I love ginger! I’m not so hardcore that I can gnaw on it raw, but I do enjoy the flavor in dishes. This weekend, I ordered some Thai delivery and got the most delicious tom kha gai soup and my cup had a big chunk of ginger in it. I actually thought it was a potato at first!

I feel for your brother! I was utterly terrified of potatoes with “legs”–those little tentacles that grow when they’re left out too long? So dark, so mysterious, hiding in the shadows of my pantry. Anyways, I love Reed’s ginger beer! Spicy.
