Hi everyone!
Guess what? I learned a new Photoshop trick! Just in case you didn’t notice, but I have gained the power of artificial lens flares. Beware, photography! Yep, it’s totally cheesy/fabulous, but this new MAC collection practically asked for it.
This is the MAC Future MAC collection, and it’s available online right now and coming to stores April 7th.
The collection is all about the next generation of hyper-luminous Mineralize products and new horizons of colour, and true to their description, the lip and skin products have amazingly unique textures and sparkle.
Keep reading to sneak a peek at the future of beauty…for April at least!
Future MAC: The Pout of the Future
I’ve never tried the Mineralize Glass ($23) or Mineralize Rich Lipsticks ($23) before this point, but oh-em-gee are they shiny!
The Mineralize Rich Lipsticks glide on the skin and build up to really unique colors. “Touch the Earth” is my personal favorite for a cool nude, but I can’t wait to rock “Ionized” and “Metafabulous” as well. I plan to do a future post (heh…) using and showing these lip products, so feel free to post your questions below, and I will try to tackle them in the next post.
The Mineralize Glasses feel similar enough to the regular Lipglasses (tacky and beautifully scented) but have multi-colored glitter instead of any significant pigmentation. The glitter hovers on top of the lips and skin, and I think these would be fun to layer on top of lipstick.
Future MAC: The Future of Eyes
Moment of silence for the palette that broke in-transit, “Full Orbit” — a gorgeous silvered taupe. These kinds of smokey khakis are my weakness too! The other Mineralize Eye Shadow X4s ($46) came in an icy blue (Dark Energy) and a warm gold (Nano-Nude). I gravitated toward “Dark Energy” the most because the icy blue looked really modern. I grew up in the time of chokers and blue eyeshadow, and now those things are back, but in a cool-girl way.
This was also the first time I tried MAC Studio Eye Gloss ($22), which gives eyes an editorial shine. I actually felt and heard my eyes blink… Interesting concept, but it’s not for me! It has a crazy tacky texture that I find difficult to remove from my skin, fingers, and clothing.
Future MAC: The Future of Skin
On to my favorite part! And I am going to call this now, but the MAC Otherearthly Mineralize Skinfinish ($32) WILL sell out. I wouldn’t wait on this one if you’re interested. The silver portion of the pan has a few glitters, but I don’t see them on my skin once mixed. I feel like my highlight with this is from the heavens.
The Warm Rose Mineralize Skinfinish ($32) is pastel pink with pink reflects and is, I believe, from the permanent line.
Last, but not least, the Lustre Drops in Pink Rebel ($21) and Barbados Girl ($21) are sooo divine. Barbados is deeper and more intense than Pink Rebel, and I can see either one working for most skin tones.
Fun side-story, but my best friend one time accidentally used a bottle of Lustre Drops instead of her usual eye drops. She drove to work crying glitter, and I don’t think any other memory of our friendship makes me laugh THAT hard.
She gave me her bottle of Lustre Drops to make sure that never happened again. It was so terrible…but best story ever amiright.
Whew! This post covered a lot, so feel free to ask any questions regarding the collection, and I’ll reply or answer it in a future post. And as always, I’d love to know what you guys have your heart set on!
See you in the next,
Anna

Wow, this is a BIG spring collection! And that story about the lustre drops is too funny, definitely something I would do 😀
Anna Oh says
Haha, I am ALWAYS able to laugh at that story. Thanks for the comment Kelly!
LindaLibraLoca says
It is a rare occasion, but my heart is set on nothing from this collection. Too sheer and too frosty for my taste.
But the story of your friend is really funny. Now, I bet it wasn’t when it happened.
Anna Oh says
Aw, well thanks for the comment anyways! I remember her texting me that morning and the lustre drops kept making her eyes water (cry) but she was actually laughing the entire time too, haha
Tracey E. says
I ordered Otherearthly MSF from MAC when it went on sale last week. My beauty arrives today.
Anna Oh says
-excited for you- Beauty in the mail is the BEST
Joyce says
Warm Rose is looking gorgeous and not too frosty! Too bad pink-based highlighters don’t compliment my warm, yellow skin tone as well as gold, champagne highlighters do.
Anna Oh says
Thanks for the comment Joyce! I feel you, I really only use champagne-gold spectrum highlighters as well. Also, warning Warm Rose has a pink-colored glitters in it too!
Fancie says
This collection is quite beautiful! Ionized and Touch the Earth look right up my alley and Otherworldly is absolutely stunning. I was worried about whether or not it would work for me with that silver but it’s actually not too shabby. This may be the first MAC collection I haul from in months
Anna Oh says
Thanks for the comment Fancie!!! I was SO scared of Otherearthly too, but it ended up being my favorite.
Indya says
Sucks about the eye gloss, I thought those were most interesting looking. However, the lustre drops also. Do those emphasize pores at all?
Anna Oh says
Thanks for the comment Indya! I didn’t find them to emphasize pores at all–I wore Pink Rebel mixed into my foundation too. The formula is quite watery and thin so it works wonderfully when mixed.
Kiss & Make-up says
I love the theme and names they picked for this collection! I don’t really see anything I want though, except for maybe Otherearthly. That one looks very pretty.
Erin says
I honestly didn’t care for this collection with the exceptions of the mineral powders because they will make perfect highlighting blushes for pale people.
Anna Oh says
Thanks for the comment, Erin! Warm Rose is definitely a winner for paler women. Otherearthly (as a highlighter) I think will work for pale to tan awesomely as well 🙂
Amy says
Thanks for the comprehensive and lovely review! I actually like the little star shapes everywhere–it goes so nicely with this collection! Might you let us know which items you are wearing in your full-face pictures? You look glowy and so gorge!
Anna Oh says
Omg I’m sorry I thought I did! I am wearing everything from the collection: Pink Rebel lustre drops mixed into MUFE HD Foundation, Otherearthly Mineralize Skinfinish, Touch the Earth Lipstick, and Dark Energy Eyeshadow Palette!
Carly says
Man, why does MAC keep releasing Eye Glosses in collections. They’re just not applicable to everyday life and can be easily replaced with regular lip gloss. Le sigh.
Anna Oh says
-shrugs- I think I assumed these were lipglosses until I inspected them closer. VERY weird!
Rachel R. says
I like the originality and concept of doing a futuristic collection for spring, but I felt like MAC didn’t go bold enough. Otherworldly and maybe Ionized are the only items I care for. Everything else is just so neutral, pale, and sheer.
Anna Oh says
Thanks for the comment Rachel 🙂 Yes this one is quite pale and neutral, but I see a really colorful one coming up next! (Vibe Tribe)

I just happens to wander into MAC today and basically fell over the new releases before thanking the makeup gods for the good fortune (I live in a small place, fun new things do NOT stick around long at my fairly limited counter!). I immediately grabbed otherearthly. The colors mixed together are kinda dark on my skin tone for a highlight but I don’t even care because it’s so pretty! I figure I can maybe focus on the pinker part with just a bit of the more gold color… or as a highlighting blush… or lightly over top of blush or bronzer… lol I dunno, but also, the white is a nice spot highlighter for the corners of my eyes and tip of my cheekbones!
I thought I would love the warm rose, especially because I’ve been looking for a pink highlight… but… I didn’t love it. I felt like it got lost in my paleness quite a bit, and when it did show up it tended to look almost white instead of pink. 🙁
but otherearthly for the win! 🙂 there was also a lovely mineralized blush on the display that was a brownish almost sort of bronzer/blush hybrid (at least for me). It was super crazy sheer so getting it to show up was kinda hard as well, but when it did it had a nice pink-warmth instead of the average gold-warmth, so, you know, interesting! 🙂
Anna Oh says
Yassssss Jonirae! Do you think you could get away with using Otherearthly as an AMAZING blush? I used it quite lightly for my highlight as well 🙂
I think Warm Rose may only work the best for pale women 🙁 Its more matte than shimmery so it’s not very flexible.
So glad you got Otherearthly :)))))))
