There’s also a video review in this post. If it’s not appearing, you can click here to watch it on YouTube.
Wearing a sexy scuba outfit while rocking big blonde hair that looks like it’s being whipped back by 12 Beyoncé fans doesn’t mean you have to go OTT with your makeup.
The first time I saw the sexy scuba promo pic for the MAC Ellie Goulding collection on Instagram a while back, I thought, “OOH! LOVE! Now this is makeup I would want to wear.” It looks so approachable and fresh, but there’s still some drama to it, like the black-winged liner and falsies. I think Ellie just looks really beautiful.
Then I saw the promo pics for the products and fell head over heels.
I’m not sure, but I might be in the minority when it comes to how much I love these colors, specifically the warm browns and neutral browns, but I’m sorry. I’m not 22 years old and about to rock an emerald green eyeshadow to Costco anymore.
I mean…I’ll do it on occasion, 🙂 but when I think of makeup that I know I can wear over and over and over again, it’s things like this: warm browns on the eyes; beautiful bronzy cheeks with a peachy glow and juicy, glossy coral lips.
In that promo pic, Ellie looks like she’s either about to belt out a song, or make out with somebody, LOL!
MAC releases so many collections, but for me, this one stands out. The brand does stuff with singers all the time, but sometimes their collaborations seem a little half-@ssed, ya know? Like the Mariah Carey one? Come on… One lipstick and no special packaging? Like, that’s it? But this got the full red carpet treatment.
Lots and lots more info in the video at the top, and here are some swatches and pictures. Have a look, and let me know what you think.

Those colors are so pretty! Where is that adorable sweater from?
Karen says
Hi Linda,
It’s a maternity sweater. 🙂 I got it from Destination Maternity’s online store.

I wasn’t so sure about this collection when I seen the photos online but after seeing the swatches, I must have this!!!
Lulle says
I really like the soft colors in this collection, and the palettes look so fresh and new. I wouldn’t mind getting both if I could!
Kiss & Make-up says
I really love the colors they picked for this collab! I just wish the powder blush duo was half-and-half. NEEDS MORE CORAL! 🙂
Cmferrets says
How does this blush duo compare with the Rihanna’s one that came out ?
Jax says
I love the idea, especially the two level pallets, but the alway seem to do them in colours that are too warm for me, so I admire from afar and go back to the customisable pallets.
I know exactly what you mean about most of their collections these days, between lack of effort/commitment to some, terrible quality and that many are US only or made in such limited numbers that they sell out in hours, I’ve just pretty much given up getting excited about anything but the permanent range.
Mellecannelle says
You’re so right, Karen, I absolutely go along with you with the make-up colours.
I NEED (well, that’s a big LIE), I absolutely WANT some items of this collection, too! Especially the Powder Blush Duo.
That’s make-up, which I wear often because of the natural colours. These (and burgundy) match best with my water colour eyes (I say this for all blue, green, gray eyes, well, in my opinion “water” colours).
LindaLibraLoca says
Even though I am all about these colors (must be the age), I am still not too excited. I feel like I own too many similar ones already.
Fancie says
I feel the same way. I’m loving these colors but I’m not as excited about this collection as I thought I would be. This looks like stuff I already own. The packaging is still very pretty though
Susan T. says
I absolutely love all the lip colours! They are exactly what I wear and want.
denise S says
Looks like a pretty everyday makeup collection. I like the blush duo!
Rachel R. says
The lip colors are too light for my tastes. I like the pretty corals in this collection, but after getting Tartelette in Bloom and Gwen Stefani palettes, I feel neutraled out for now.
Love your lipstick top, BTW!
Erin says
I bet it all works well for you, I wasn’t very happy with the colors 🙁
Monica says
The cream palette is intriguing. I’ve never tried the formula before and if you’re raving about it, I want it! I usually stay away from MAC limited edition because they’re so expensive where I live and just out of principle, ya know what I mean? But I might just make an exception this time. Oh and you’re so right about that song. It’s in my work out playlist too!
Lena says
I have a few CCBs, in reds, pinks, magenta, which I use as blush and lip color, and they are AWESOME. Longwearing, pigmented, easy to blend. The palette is great to try several colors at once.
Sydney says
Hi Karen, love your videos! And loved the makeup on you! I, like some other people, wasn’t too crazy about the colors either, but you definitely changed my mind and I can’t wait to get them, thanks!;)
JUVY says
These look great for everyday wear regardless the season.
Kim says
I agree – I love the color combo in Halcyon Days. And all the lip colors look beautiful. 🙂
Lena says
Karen, how was the shade of the blot powder on your skin, did it show up light? Do you think it will be ok on nc 25 skin?
Emmy says
Wow! I want! This collection is beautiful! <3
