Neat and New to Me
Unlike my Unsung Heroes series, which features permanent collection products I’ve known and loved a long time, the Neat and New to Me series showcases permanent collection products that slipped under my radar for a while, but then I discovered them! — and now I think they’re neat and new to me.
This peachy brown matte blush’s name reminds me of going to the beach back in the day, back when it seemed like every family had a bottle of good ol’ Coppertone sunscreen with them.
Oh, the way it smelled! — like long sunny days, sand in your toes, salt water in your hair, ham and cheese sandwiches… Or was that just in my family? LOL!
I can’t deny that I was hoping MAC Matte Blush in Coppertone ($22) would smell the same way, but alas, it doesn’t. It has the familiar non-fragrance of a regular blush.
Even so, this Coppertone is anything but regular. It’s similar (but not identical) to MAC Gingerly Blush — like the two of them could be sisters. Coppertone, with her deeper, richer red, would just be the bossier, more outgoing older beach babe sister.
When I wear it on my cheeks, I feel like I’ve just spent an entire day playing in the sand and riding the rides at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (I haven’t done that in YEARS).
I like both of these blushes this time of year because I love how they look with a tan, but I’ll grab Coppertone more often when I’m too lazy to bust out the bronzer. I just think that its deeper, redder tones already mimic the look of bronzed, toasty skin (and without, ya know, having to use actual bronzer).
Oh, and FYI, Coppertone adores olive skin tones — and just about all skin tones, for that matter, especially if they’re rockin’ a tan. I think it looks great on pale pretties and darker damsels alike.
PRICE: $22
AVAILABILITY: A member of the MAC permanent collection, and available now online and at MAC stores and counters

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Have a terrific Tuesday, babe.
P.P.S. Guess which resident territorial tabby cat busted out of his harness to chase down a fluffy brown cat when he spotted it on his walk this morning.
It was terrible! Tabs bolted and was out of his leash in half a second. Before I knew what was happening, they were both running full speed behind the neighbor’s garage. Luckily the other cat escaped before Tabs reached it, but it was like Tabs was possessed! He was hissing and all puffed up.
Bad tabby. 🙁

Oh my! I didn’t think it would swatch like that! It’s gorgeous!
LindaLibraLoca says
Wow, how did he escape his harnet so fast! Must be all the training he puts himself through.
Karen says
LOL! That must have been it, all of his kitty agility training. I’m serious, he was out of that harness in an instant! I barely even felt any tug on the leash. I have no idea how he did it.
LindaLibraLoca says
It´s like them getting onto the tiniest spaces just to leave you wondering how on earth they got in there. They must be able to instantly shrink to half their size.

I adore Gingerly. I haaave to try this new blush!
Tabs – whoa kitty!
Jessica says
Ohhhh Tabs!
Will Tabs write about his adventure on his blog?
I need to ask Tabs a question. A serious one, really.
I ate a handful of popcorn last night and there was cat hair in it. I think I might have swallowed a hair or two.
Will I puke up a hairball?
Need advice. My cats are not very helpful; all they do is laugh at me and ask for more food.

Ooh, I like this series! Not sure if it’s a new feature, but I feel like there are so many products in permanent collections that I haven’t even heard of because there’s not much buzz around them since they’re not new.
PS: That’s scary about Tabs! I’m glad no kitties were harmed <3

I didn’t realize Coppertone was so red. I always assumed it was like a dark peach.

I feel you on the cat fight/flight panic! Every so often Blaow will chase a neighborhood cat and I’m screaming his name like a banshee but he keeps running anyway, lol. Fortunately there have been no injuries but my racing heart and frazzled nerves! I’m going to check Coppertone, looks like my kind of blush!

I love this new series and the Unsung Heroes, it’s great that you also talk about products that have been around for a while!
Kiss & Make-up says
Ack, what a pretty shade! Lovely!
Rachel R. says
That looks much prettier on the skin than in the pan. Lovely! I like this idea for a series.
Kwmechelle says
I can totally see you rocking this. I think it has your name written all over it. And for good reason. She’s a beaut!

No, it’s not just your family. Whenever I smell Coppertone it takes me back to carefree days on the lake. I still buy Coppertone and use it as lotion just for the good feelings I get from the fragrance.
Chelsea says
Oh bad Tabby! He’s a kittycats escape artist! Quincy is quite the escape bunny for an old guy.

This blush isn’t inspiring me too much, but I can smell the Coppertone! I love the smell of it so much. They should have made this blush have that scent.

Great idea fro a series Karen. I like permanent oldies but goodies. Today I bought Sephora’s Black Lace eyeliner, a black matte liner. It maybe an old permanent product, but it’s new to me!
So glad Tabs didn’t get hurt. Maybe Tabs & the other cat were enemies in a former life and Tabs recognized a former nemesis.
Fancie says
Oooo I like! I’m glad you decided to start this series because I’ve never paid much attention to Coppertone either but now I want it. Go figure lol. It looks like a beautiful everyday blush for WOC. I need to swatch and play when I go check out the new blushes next week
Ashleigh says
Wow, this blush is gorgeous. I’m going to have to put it on my list to swatch next time the mac store is open again…

That *is* bronze-a-rific! And it wasn’t just your family. We were bologna and mustard on white bread (a rare treat). Any time I’ve had that combo, years later, I could almost taste the lake. 🙂
Oh, no. That’s awful. It’s very scary to see your pet either chasing or being chased, especially when you’re not used to them roaming free. We have a heart attack whenever one of ours bolts out the door (just to walk around the backyard). I’m glad everything worked out for all of you.
