Day five of no central heating and natural gas-heated water.
Today I cried…
Well, almost. I almost cried, but then I saw the sun coming out and realized it was going to be a pretty warm day, so I wasn’t going to freeze. Yet.
As of now, the ETA for getting the gas line repaired is first thing tomorrow, and I’m keeping all of my fingers crossed.
In related news, I’m getting pretty good at what I call the hot water shuffle, which is when we heat up pots of water on the stove and dump them into a big tote in the bathtub.
It’s not as fun as a shower, but it gets the job done.
As for the temperature in the house, it’s been a little chilly, even with my space heater going 24/7 and bundled up in layers, and I desperately needed to feel warm today, so I pretended with this summery-ish look with bronzy brown.
I built it around my current MAC permanent eyeshadow crush, Amber Lights, a shimmery warm peachy brown.
Wearing mostly MAC and NARS here with a bit of Tom Ford and Hourglass thrown in for good luck.

Hi Karen,
You look amazing!! Absolutely gorgeous. It must be beyond exciting to get the hot water and heat back, I hope everything goes as planned!
Ankita@corallista says
Gorgeous look Karen! I have Amberlights though I haven’t worn it in a while. Time to take it out for a spin!
p.s – The ring light is adding a very ‘supernatural’ touch to your eyes 🙂
Laarni says
Super, super pretty!
Amy says
The way you have the circular light hitting your eyes in the last photo makes your eyes look stunning. Almost like you’re wearing circle lenses! 😀

this is amazing. i have MAC sable and i think you’ve just convinced me to get amber lights! i have fair skin, rosy cheeks and blue eyes so i think this is worth being my first MAC purchase in a while… plus i’ve been needing a new reason to wear Teddy! (after all your Costa Riche love it’s been real hard to not pull the trigger on that one…think Amber Lights is more “special” for my money, though!)
Bella says
The eye look really brightens your eyes!! I love the whole face look, briliant. Enjoy your last hot water shuffle LOL!
Erin says
I love this look on you, especially the nude lip. I know the gloss isn’t nude but it’s just the right amount of both to look nude but alive!
Nikki says
You look so radiant and beautiful here Karen. I would’ve mistaken you for a summer goddess with the bronzey eyeshadows. 🙂
fancie says
I seriously hope you get some heat soon! That’s just plain awful! I totally admire your cheerful attitude and how fabulous you look despite no heat. So positive and beautiful as always!
Lora says
Absolutely beautiful Karen
Danielle says
Your makeup looks great! Amber Lights is one of my absolute favorite eye shadows!
Emme says
You look STUNNING! I love Amber lights and I’m so duping this look!
Emme says
P.S. Love how you used the cocoa brown as a base and Amber lights in the crease. That’s counterintuitive to me and looks great! Thanks!!
Agata says
Gorgeous! You’re a bronze goddess.
Robina says
You look amazing, I love the eye make up, if fact the whole face is fabulous
Niki Caron says
Your makeup is insanely beautiful here! I love it! And I’m so sorry that you have no heat or hot water! I have been there and it is awful!! I hope you’re able to get it fixed soon!
Sylirael says
I love the little flash of gold that pops out of your eyeshadow just over the centre of your eye – it really opens the look up and makes it sparkle, but in an elegant way!
Vanessa Caraballo says
I am just LOVING this look on you! I may have to scoop up Amber Lights soon 🙂
How are you liking Adjust for setting your undereye?
Deanna says
I’m really liking this look! Amber Lights is such a beautiful shade on you! I’m going to have to try a similar look soon to mix up my makeup routine. I like the idea of wearing a darker shade on the lid with a lighter shade in the crease. I used to wear my eye shadow like that fairly often, but for some reason I’ve stopped doing that completely, and I don’t even remember when or why I stopped doing it that way.
hanna says
The eyeshadow is so pretty.
Tatiana says
This is such a beautiful look, I’m going to have to try it for myself. I have all the eye colors except for the MAC Amber Lights.
I don’t know how you survived so long without hot water. I’d be begging all my friends to let me use their showers. Enjoy your very long, hot shower when your natural gas is restored!
Chelsea says
Gorgeous! I have a Lancome shade in a similar color, but I feel like it’s too close to my hair color, LOL.
Anna says
You look STUNNING! Golds and mid-dark browns suit you SO well! Beautiful!!!
MakeupbyHilary says
You look absolutely stunning- woah!
I swatched Amber Lights when I was at MAC last week and have been thinking about it ever since. Definitely am going to pick it up!
Christina says
Totally gorgeous :). I love how Amber Lights looks on you!

I’m a regular reader but came across this post for Amber Lights when I was searching for some MAC swatches at the recent Sephora sale. Girrrrrlllllll, I agree with whoever said above – fiyah!!! This is my favourite look from you ever!!!
Karen says
Thanks, Alida! Been a minute since I’ve worn this shadow. Thanks for the reminder! I’ll have to do this again with some fall lips, oh la la.
What did you end up getting at Sephora?
