I can’t wait for the new MAC Marilyn Monroe collection to arrive on counters October 4! I’m serious. I can’t wait!!
I tried, but I couldn’t, so I didn’t. 🙂
Today I decided to try my paws at a look inspired by Marilyn and Hollywood pinup girls using products I already have. For the heck of it, I tried to use colors that at least sounded similar to the ones from the upcoming release, based on the official MAC color descriptions.
I left myself lots of leeway here and basically just tried to have fun, Marilyn-style.
The products I substituted for MAC Marilyn Monroe collection colors…
- MAC Eyeshadow in Shroom in place of MAC Eyeshadow in Preferred Blonde (described as a pale champagne beige)
- A mix of MAC Eyeshadow in Swell Baby and Waft in place of MAC Eyeshadow in Showgirl (a dark blueish grey)
- MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger in place of MAC Lipstick in Scarlet Ibis (a bright orange-red)
- MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick in place of MAC Lip Pencil in Redd
- MAC Pro Longwear Lipgloss in Boundlessly Beige in place of MAC Dazzleglass in Phiff! (a sheer yellowish peach)
- MAC Blush in Blushbaby in place of MAC Powder Blush in The Perfect Cheek (a neutral pinkish beige)
- MAC Beauty Powder in Pearl Sunshine in place of MAC Beauty Powder in Forever Marilyn (a sheer pale peach)
- MAC 36 Lash in place of MAC 35 Lash
I snapped some pics, too, in case you wanted to follow along. 🙂
If you’re ready, let’s jump right in!
The first thing I did was apply my foundation and fill in my brows…
Then, I spread MAC Paint in Sublime Nature all over my lids.
After that, I patted Shroom on top…
…before mixing Swell Baby and Waft together. Lightly, I swept both of them into my crease to give my eyes some definition.
Next, I lined my upper lash and water lines with MAC Blacktrack.
Then I coated both my upper and lower lashes with MAC Haute & Naughty Too Black Lash Mascara, lined my lower water line with MAC Eye Kohl in Fascinating, and added some concealer under my eyes to clean up the edges.
To give my cheeks some color, I applied MAC Blushbaby, then to add highlights, followed it up with Pearl Sunshine on my upper cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose and on my cupid’s bow.
Now for Marilyn’s amazing pout. 🙂 Since my lips are naturally, uh, much thinner than hers, I tried to create the illusion of fuller lips by tracing well outside my natural lip line with Kiss Me Quick pencil. Then, I filled them in with Lady Danger lipstick.
If you’re thinking, “Can I wear this to the library?” you could always stop here…but I wanted to keep going!
False lashes, a layer of gloss and an improv beauty mark finished the look.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Naomi says
Oh wow Karen! This is gorgeous. I must try this for myself! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Naomi,
Thank you! Can’t wait for you to try this look. Let me know how it goes. 🙂
Kezia Fleming says
The collection will be released on Sept 21, 2012 @ MAC Pro Orlando!!!
Liliane says
Aghhh! I am dying over waiting for this as well. Was wondering–what brush did you use to apply the lipstick?
Karen says
Hi Liliane,
It’s a concealer brush from Sonia Kashuk. I actually like it more for applying lipstick than concealer!
Liliane says
Thanks!
Karen says
You’re welcome! 🙂
Nina says
Awesome, Karen!
Karen says
Thanks, Nina! I’m still wearing those crazy lashes…LOL!
How was your day?
Nina says
Quite good, thank you for asking! I hope yours was awesome! 🙂
Crystal says
I can’t wait either but this beautiful look helps make it easier:) You look beautiful!
Karen says
Thank you, Crystal!
What are you thinking about picking up from the collection? I think I need all the lipsticks, LOL!
Crystal says
I am picking them all up! I’m a sucka for RED.
Nastassia says
i LOVE your channel.. can’t wait to see what you pick up. Some of the lipsticks[i think one] is a repromote so check your stash first! :))
Chelsea says
Very glam! I’ve never actually used fake lashes, but you’re making me want to try! (At least for Halloween, if nothing else!)
Karen says
You should try it! Get some Ardell ones from the drugstore, some Duo lash glue from Sephora and practice around the house. That’s what I do. They’re actually easy one you get the hang of them. I suggest starting with corner lashes first…they’re much easier to apply than the full ones.
Melody says
Lookin’ good girl!
Karen says
Thanks, Melody!

You make a gorgeous Marilyn, Karen! I love that lip 😉
Karen says
Thanks, Rae! Hope you’re having a nice night.

Gorgeous! I love your tutorials. I have picked up some great tips from them, like how to do the outer V. It’s also interesting to see a different way of doing eyeliner (I actually pull my eyelashes down and trace my liner along my lashes for the top lashline – it’s weird but it works!). You look amazing with the Marilyn look!
Karen says
Interesting to hear how you do your liner! One thing that I’ve always loved about makeup is that there are so many different paths to get to the final destination!
How’s your week going? Good, I hope!
Rads says
“What do I wear in bed? Why, Chanel No. 5, of course.” Karen you are just amazing…loved the last pic the most! And the improv beauty mark 😀 😀
Karen says
Thank you, Rads! Are you stoked about this launch?
Chris25 says

That’s a Marilyn Monroe look alright. You did an amazing job!
Kim says
Love the lashes and the entire look. And I was laughing about the Chanel No. 5 caption. 🙂
A bit off subject but I noticed you’re back with MAC concrete for your brows. MUFE’s Aqua Brows wasn’t a keeper? I’m only asking because I’m a pencil gal but was very interested in Aqua.
Karo says
wow! I love this Look! You look awesome!
irini says
WOW is all I can say! Question though, how did you manage to line outside of your natural lip line and yet make it look realistic and not clown-y?

I hope I’m not offending, but, are you a tranny or a real woman? You really do look like a tranny in the penultimate photo.
