Three words (and some hearts): ♥♥♥ Barbie Loves MAC. ♥♥♥
I affectionally refer to this collection as my gateway collection — the one that started it all, and by “it,” I mean 1) my obsession with MAC and 2) the unofficial start of Makeup and Beauty Blog.
Yup, Barbie Loves MAC was my very first post on MBB (spring 2007). I almost can’t believe this blog will be seven years old next month.
Time files when you’re having fun. 🙂
How about you, my friend? What was the first MAC collection you fell head over heels in love with?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF!
If only I were this stylish, LOL! (As I sit here typing this in stretchy pants and a hoodie.)
Don’t you just love her over-the-knee boots and that MAC train case? Barbie’s got it goin’ on!
In other news…I’ve become addicted to another Bravo reality TV show. Have you seen Toned Up, starring Internet famous fitness gurus Karina and Katrina?
It sucked me in! I want to hang out with them and do crunches on the beach, LOL! They seem very cool and fun.
Allison says
Karena and Katrina have lots of fun in their workout videos as well. Thanks to them, my coworker noticed my rear is more shapely and she is starting with them today!
My first MAC collection was In the Groove. Im a sucker for mineralize stuff.

How about I give you the first MAC product I totally fell in love with? 🙂 It was the MAC Pro translucent setting powder. I had never used a translucent powder before (I was like ‘it’s WHITE :-O) and I was so wowed by how lightweight and natural it looked.

Disney Villans! I think that was when I started following beauty blogs extensively!

Liberty Of London!

The first collection I remember was Tartan Tale when I was about 16, after that I started actually caring about makeup. I got a brush set from the collection for Christmas, though if it had come out this year I would have been all over it. Loved the liners, the face kits and the lacquered lipstick packaging with the gold detail.
Phyrra says
Lure (with the soft green packaging).

Mac x Hello Kitty! I was 18 and had just started watching beauty videos on youtube. I’d lived overseas basically my whole life so I had no idea what Mac was until then. I purchased the eye quad and a beauty powder.. the beauty powder I still use every so often, but the blue eyeshadow in the quad I depotted and threw away because it bugged me so much. But the packaging is still to die for!
Majick says
I have NO IDEA but I NEED that Barbie! LMAO – she is way cool.

Hey Karen- I have a question for you, only marginally related- but since it’s a MAC post, I thought I would ask anyway! Seeing your positive reviews of it, I just purchased the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer, and I love it- but I just noticed that on the bottle, the shelf life listed is only 6 months! I also purchased the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, and this one has a much longer shelf life- 24 months, so I’m considering keeping it. I hardly use make up, and the MAC one will definitely last me more than 6 months. How conscientious are you about replacing your PLC frequently?

This may sound dated, but I remember seeing pictures of the D’Bohemia and Belle Azure collections in the windows and at counters and loved them. But the first collection I bought from was Culturebloom. I did track down some Belle Azure items at my first CCO trip though!
Iris says
I haven’t fallen for any MAC collections yet but I wish the store was around when they had MAC x Playboy. I’m so sad I missed out on this collaboration.
Brenda says
I think it was Neo Sci Fi (2008). I still wish I’d picked up more from that one!
Rachel says
Mine was Barbie loves MAC, too! A postcard from MAC came to the previous tenants’ name at the house I was renting, but I think it was meant for me. Other favorites include Hello Kitty, Liberty of London, and Fafi.
Fancie says
I hate that I missed out on all of the good collections! I would kill for another Barbie, Hello Kitty and Heatherette collection. Glamour Daze was the collection that made me fall for MAC. It’s still my favorite because it was just so beautiful and the packaging was gorgeous. I don’t think last year’s holiday collection was half as cute. Although the packaging wasn’t bad lol
brenda says
Absolutely Archies Girls and/or Baking Beauty’s! Need collections like those please 😀
Jen says
I’ve enjoyed MAC for a while, but my favorite collection was Warm & Cozy, I think winter/early spring 2009/2010. Someone earlier said Liberty of London, which I forgot about but was really awesome, too! Anyway, I’ve learned to love the post-Christmas MAC release because it typically includes more neutral options which is what I gravitate to on a day-to-day basis.

I don’t think I’ve ever fallen in love with a MAC collection, but I have definitely hyperventilated over some of their pigments and glitters!
Clara says
My first collection was Shop and Cook 2 ys. ago. Before I never dared going to the counter. Since then I fell in love with MACs Collections.
Danielle says
For me, it was definitely the MAC holiday collections! I looked on Google, and I think the one that really got me was the Formal Black Collection from 2006. I remember I had a couple of things from that collection that I loved!
Chelsea says
The first one that caught my eye when I started getting into makeup more was MAC Fabulous Felines, back when I worked at Macy’s in 2010. I only bought one thing, but I LOVED that lipstick I bought.
Donna says
The Barbie Collection was the first collection that I purchased more than one item from, then the Disney Villain collection really got me. Looks like I’m a sucker for packaging. But – the Barbie Whisper Pink Shadow is still my favorite MAC shadow ever. Wish they would make that a perm color – without the Barbie imprint in it if need be.

I was a user for a few years before, but nothing ever had turned my head(and emptied my wallet….)the way Venomous Villains 2010 did. I still scope out a CCO by me, “just in case.” BEYOND excited for Maleficent collection this spring!
TJ says
I guess I’m not much of a “collection” person. I sometimes buy individual items within a featured collection, but rarely buy a whole “look” because most of those looks seem to be designed for someone with a different complexion from my own. Invariably, some products just don’t do anything for my skin tone and I can’t waste MAC money on something that’s so-so or has to be doctored beyond recognition to work. From a pure packaging standpoint, however, I thought the Wonder Woman collection was adorable.
Casey says
I just bought my *very first* MAC product last week! I picked up their Studio Finish Concealer which is doing a great job of covering up old acne scars. Really glad I picked it up!
Cassandra says
Definitely the Lady Gaga x Viva Glam collection I honestly believe that I wouldn’t even care about makeup if it weren’t for her collaborations with a few different cosmetics companies around that time.
BJ says
I have to second your Barbie collection! That started my Mac love affair. I still have that red brown in your picture, moth something? Mine is so worn that I wouldn’t try to read it. I have an old lipstick too, Empty as it is, I can’t part with it. I wish they’d do a second shot at this entire collection. The beauty powder I had was gorgeous. I miss it so

The recent MAC collection that made me fall in love with MAC again was last year’s “Temperature Rising” Collection. In my eyes, this has been one of MAC’s recent collections that has been perfect. The eyeshadow quads, blushes, bronzing powders, lipsticks, and lipglosses were all gorgeous. The colors used in this collection were perfect for creating both neutral and smokier looks. I ended loving this collection so much that I purchased both pro long wear bronzing powders, both blushes, a lipstick, and a lipgloss. I would have purchased more products from this collection. However, I knew I needed to stick to a certain budget limit.
Astrild says
I’m not a huge fan of MAC collections, but last year Fashion Sets Collection was stunning. I wanted everything. Temperature Rising was a gorgeous collection too. Probably it was the one I purchased most items from.

I have never purchased MAC cosmetics before. I don’t live near a counter and I’m hesitant to purchase online (also everything I want is usually sold out). I’ve been following the collections for the past year and a half or so (and by following I mean reading Temptalia and this blog religiously) so I know what has been released. I really liked the orange collections from last spring (I don’t remember what it was called) and would have purchased a blush if I lived near a MAC counter. The most recent collection I kind of fell in love with is the Magnetic Nudes! So. Many. Gorgeous. Neutrals!
Cindy says
I love their Skin Mineralize Natural and their Prep & Prime. Call me boring but I love the natural face with a pop of color <3

I already liked MAC, but the first collection I totally went head over heels for was Hello Kitty. Fortunately, I was able to get a few products, because it sold out fast. The packaging is just adorable! I also loved To the Beach – what a beautiful collection that was!
Diana says
Smoke Signals had to be it….Eartha Kitt singing “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” and the gorgeous eyeshadow quad with Satin Taupe and Emote blush. It was perfection!!! I also loved the Liberty of London collection. Gorgeous packaging and products.

I don’t see the attraction if MAC tbh. I’d like to ask though, and I’m not meaning any disrespect, but since you talk about MAC on here a lot and are obviously a huge fan, does it bother you that MAC products are tested on animals? I’m curious, not trolling! In the last year I realised I could no longer support manufacturers who test on animals so I gave up many beloved brands and now only buy cruelty free. I’m really torn sometimes though, when my former favourite brands bring out something lovely.
