MAC Too Fabulous Mineralize Blush Duos
Morning, ladies! I can tell it’s going to be a good day because I’m blushing already. 😳
Blushing like these MAC Mineralize Blush Duos ($23) from the upcoming Too Fabulous collection (in stores March 4).
Corny morning greeting? You betcha, but I happen to really like MAC’s Mineralize blushes, despite their frosty metallic finish. Some ladies (and gents!) aren’t big fans, but I find that I can do different things with them (from a candlelit glow to a blast of cheek color) depending on the brushes I use.
If you decide to give these Mineralize Blush Duos a try, here are four brushes to consider…
1. 187 Duo Fibre Brush ($42)
Its black and white brush head led to it being nicknamed the “skunk brush,” but this bad boy’s no stinker. It applies a sheer whisper of color onto the cheeks and allows me to build my color and shimmer slowly. TIP: To create a “glazed” cheek look, try spritzing the brush head lightly with MAC Fix+ ($18) before swiping it against the pan.
2. 188 Small Duo Fibre Brush ($34)
The baby version of the 187. It’s a little smaller and has a flatter top, which makes it great for precise application to areas like the bottoms of cheekbones. I love using it to layer different blush colors.
3. 116 Blush Brush ($32)
I find this brush works allows more of the color of the blush to show through. I do notice that my cheeks look very shimmery when I use this brush, but I sometimes I’m in the mood for that effect.
4. While not really brushes…
Fingers work great in a pinch (LOL!). Use ’em to apply a wash of shimmer to the apples of the cheeks, cheekbones, eyelids or anywhere you’d like to shimmer. 🙂

These are some great tips! I am usually afraid to put shimmer on my cheeks, but I hope I can make these work because they are so beautiful!
Karen says
If you’re nervous about the shimmer maybe try using your fingers for very specific color/shimmer placement. They’ll give you a lot of control over the product!
Fie says
These look gorgeous, but I was never a fan of their mineralize products. 🙁 Damn you, oily skin!
Karen says
Oh, bummer. Who knows, maybe in a few years your skin type will change. A few years ago I had really oily skin, now it’s a combo dry/oily.
Fie says
I think I’m heading towards that road now. I’ll give them another try when this comes out 😀
NINA says
I have both 187 and 188 and for some reason, I reach out for the 188 more. I also use my fingers to apply some shimmer to the top and sides of my cheeks.
Im slowly but surely becoming an MSF and Mineralized Blush addict …. 😀
NINA says
PS – Gmawnin … its cold and were expecting sleet OR snow. Hubs is working from home I think … but im here at work as usual. Have a good day Karen!
Karen says
Good morning! Yikes… stay warm and safe! It’s overcast, drizzly and cold here. Can’t wait for sunny days!
Karen says
It’s easy to become addicted to these. I love all my MSF powders… especially for highlighting!
NINA says
Ive already put in an order for spring weather but it seems like its superduperuber delayed. 😛
I think im going to MAC this weekend because I absolutely need one or two more MSFs – my life and sanity depend on it! 😛
Karen says
SUPER delayed. I would like to put in my order too — please hold the seasonal allergies, LOL!
NINA says
Venti bottomless spring sans seasonal allergies for Karen coming up! 😛
Tiffany says
I love the mineralize blushes and can’t wait to check these out! Thanks for the brush tips!
Karen says
You’re welcome, Tiffany! Happy Tuesday! 🙂
Sharon says
I LOVE the skunk brush. I use it for my more intimidating blushes like Nars exhibit a and it instantly transforms it from scary to wearable
Karen says
So true! I also like using fan brushes from my “scary” blush colors. 🙂
Aniela says
Karen, you’re absolutely right…all of these products don’t work nearly as well unless you have good, quality brushes, and no1 makes a brush like MAC does! Love the mineralized blushes tho…haven’t tried them yet but they look really pretty!
Karen says
I hope you’ll be able to take them for a spin when this collection comes out! 🙂
Lu says
I love MAC’s mineral blushes. Those are great! I can’t wait for this collection. I use a huge brush from Sephora. It allows me to add just a little color over the whole cheekbone.

Karen says
Oh, nice. Some of those Sephora brushes are pretty good! I got an eye kit from them a few years back and remember the bristles feeling very soft.
Vonvon says
The blushes are so pretty and tempting! Besides my craze for eyeshadows, I think blushes might be my craze!

Karen says
Me too. I can’t believe there was a time when I didn’t wear blush! Now I can’t get enough of ’em.
Vonvon says
LOL…..same situation here…..now, not only into blushes but bronzers too…more for contouring….but it makes such a difference to contour.

Karen says
SO TRUE! I just started doing it a few months ago and totally notice the difference, especially in pictures. Have you heard of using foundation/concealer to contour? I think I want to try that next.
Shannon Steele says
excited about these blushes and my favorite brush for blush is my fingers as well. my cheek area is super small and most brushes reach way beyond both sides of my cheek bones. and i’m really feeling both the top and middle lefts.
Karen says
I love using fingers to add a pop of color to the very bottom part of the apple. Plus, fingers are free and always readily available, LOL!
lexi says
Okay I do have the travel sized 187 bought 2yrs ago from one of the brush gift sets….and I did preorder the bright pink and violet blush. I usually stay away from the MSF blushes like the plague but since I’m ready for spring time these colors jumped right at me. Plus the Azalea Blossom ombre blush just wasn’t for me. Hopefully the combo of the brush and this blush will be a match made in heaven – well at least throughout the spring/summer – for me!
Karen says
Oh cool. I had my eye on the bright pink and violet one, so I hope it works for me. Do you have any Fix+ around? I bet it would be pretty applied wet!
lexi says
I don’t but I always contemplate buying it when I’m at the Company Store….okay I’ll put it on my shopping list!
Karen says
It’s a good to have one bottle around… it’s handy when you want a quick spritz of moisture, or for when you want your foundation to look “settled.”
amy says
I see at least two to three I want to pick up: pink/gold; pink/purple; and coral and purple.

I am all over the pink and gold!
Michelle says
I used to be afraid of the mineralized blushes, but once I tried Warm Soul, I was hooked (it’s subtle shimmer, not sparkly glitter). I hope some of these new blushes work — they look gorgeous!!
Karen says
Don’t they, though? I love the swirl pattern on them… they look like ice cream.
Aleksis says
huh…didn’t realize these wouldn’t be $18…were the last ones $23? But anyway I have two on my list but I am trying to pick a third…these are my FAVORITE!

Karen says
I love these too. Do you like the MSF powders? I’m hell-gone and addicted to those, LOL!
Kajal Couture says
With my recent splurge on the blush ombres, I might have to pass, but they are gorgeous! Mineralize blushes blend so well into the skin.

Ooh, I never thought to use my fingers hehe. I have a 187SE and my SO just got me the 188 for our 3rd anniversary but I sadly don’t really like either! The 187SE is a little too big (plus it bleeds like no other =/ mine’s from the HK brush set and I just can’t get it to stop bleeding) and the 188 is a little too small and I feel like I can never get an even finish with it, though perhaps it’s not really meant for applying blush to that large an area? It may also be the blemishes I currently have on my cheeks that just makes it look uneven… =/

These are very great tips. I have never thought about getting my brush wet before dipping them in the blush. I will give this a try. And the upcoming collection looks amazing. I will definitely be checking it out.
Katie says
I really don’t like the mineralized blushes, but maybe I’ll pick one up and try applying it with my #187 brush. 🙂

I’m dying to try these out, but I also have combo skin. Does this mean they won’t show up? I did try By Candlelight and all I saw was highlight, no color. Is this what happens?
marisol says
*shakes fist in the air*
Darn you MAC… why do you come out with such awesome products?
Anytime I use MSFs, I use Fix+ for that glazed look.

I just bought my first MAC product : the sun & moon blush! Even though I never spend much money on cosmetics, I adore it, I can just stare at the package and it’ll make my day. Its sooo pretty!
