A Glittery Green and Gold St. Patrick’s Day Look with Milani and MAC

March 16th, 2010 by Karen 118 Comments

Hawaiian fun fact of the day: It’s not unusual to meet mixed race islanders. The state’s basically a big ol’ melting pot! It’s one of the things I love about Hawaii. 🙂 Ask a local their nationality, and they’ll usually rattle off a long list.

El Hub happens to be one of those kids, and his laundry list of nationalities includes Irish… I’m sure you see where this is going, LOL!

Every St. Patrick’s Day, he gets the urge to celebrate, and I get to be Irish for a day!

On the agenda for tomorrow night: a pub that serves green beer, and since I want to look the part, this morning I worked on my St. Patrick’s Day green and gold eye look using MAC and a mix of new drugstore stuff from Milani.

Cheeks: MAC Blush Ombre in Ripe Peach; Lips: MAC Lip Pencil in Mouth Off, MAC Lipstick in Victorian, MAC Naked Honey Salve

Eyes: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden (entire eyelid), Milani Liquif Eye Metallic Eye Liner Pencil in Gold (enter eyelid and lower lash line), Milani Infinite Liquid Eye Liner in Eternal (on lid and barely into the crease), Milani Liquif Eye Metllic Eye Liner Pencil in Black (waterlines and upper lash line), Milani Crystal Eyez in Gorgeous & Glowing (on lid), MAC Fix Studio Lash in Black (upper and lower lashes)

From left: Milani Liquif Eye Metallic Eye Liner Pencil in Gold, Milani Liquif Eye Metallic Eye Liner Pencil in Black, Milani Infinite Liquid Eye Liner in Eternal, Milani Crystal Eyez in Gorgeous & Glowing

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out — colorful and glittery but not too “out there.”

Tomorrow I may switch out the black Milani Liquif Eye eyeliner for my trusty MAC Technakohl in Graphblack… I like how dark, soft and smooth the Milani liner is, but it disappeared from my waterline within an hour. I see it maybe working better along the lash line because it really grabs the skin, and I bet it would kick butt as a creamy base for smokey eyes.

Are you wearing green tomorrow, and are ya doin’ anything fun?

Hello, ’80s

Yes, it’s true — I’m a product of the ’80s, and I have a pretty good knack for remembering pop music from the era. Every so often, though, I’ll run into a tune I can’t place, like this oldie by Orange Juice called Rip It Up. It took some YouTube research to identify.

What do ya think? Kinda catchy, yah? I was rocking out to it when the doorbell rang this morning. I was about half way done with my makeup and answered the door with one glittery eye and my hair in hot rollers, ha! Love it when that happens. The FedEx dude just stood there frozen, probably thinking, “Does not compute! Run away!”

That was the highlight of my day. How about yours? Anything new to report?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I cant wait … in my excitement earlier, one of my MAC quads fell and unfortunately, Ricepaper was my casualty. Im trying to fix it with isoprophyl alcohol … hope it works!

Its a bit chilly today but it promises to be a balmy 70 degrees later! Cant wait …. oh and in the pub were going to — they also have green milk and shamrock cookies. I think im more excited for that than the green beer LOL !!!

Oooh no! Ricepaper is the JAM. I hope you were able to fix it!

Okay, so I dunno how I feel about green milk… the thought of it kind of makes my tum turn. I’d be all over the cookies though!

Ill find out when I get home if it got fixed. I normally dampen a strip of paper towel, wrap the pan with it and weigh it down with some quarters. I also make sure I keep it in a safe place (read: away from kittiehhzzz!!!). I hope it gets fixed. 🙂

LOL …. the cookies are pretty awesome and the green milk a sight to behold … but yeah – not a very purdy sight! 😀

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I just love a good makeup theme, don’t you? 🙂 I’m planning on rockin’ Chanel Jade on my nails and something pretty and green on the lids! I’m jealous though, I’ve been looking for that Milani pencil in gold and all my local sources only have it in black, silver and brown! Any suggestions?

I wanted to do a green NOTW for it, but I totally forgot St. Patty’s day was this week and I did my first Konad with purples… and now I don’t want to take it off! It was Clinique Cream Shaper in Black Diamond. It went on really quickly and smoothly and made a nice thin line, which was great. And it still looks perfect – though it’s only been 5 hours or so. I think it makes my eyes look smaller, but I only went to the end of my lashes on the inside corner, so I might just be paranoid since it’s Day 1. I’ll keep practicing! 🙂

So cute! My hubs is half Irish making our daughter 1/3 Irish, i guess? So yes, I get to celebrate too. I wore my green t-shirt today but with a neutral eyes and coral gloss. I was going to put a little MAC Bottle Green in my outer v but I ran out of time. Oh well, it’s not like I’m going out to the Pubs tonight anyway. Plus, I like to call pubs/bars on St. Patrick’s Day – Amateur Night! It’s just an excuse to drink excessive just like New Year’s and Cinco De Mayo.

Sorry didn’t mean to be a Kill Joy – have fun whatever you plan on doing! My hubby and I will do whisky shots at home!

but what i wanted to ask but forgot is how do you feel about these Milani eyeliners? I’m looking for a nice Teal without spending a whole lot of money since I know I won’t use it as often as a black pencil per se…

Happy Saint Paddy’s Day! I have class to be in tomorrow at University so I can’t go out and celebrate, but I’m on standby for DD-ing for my boyfriend and his brother. I at least got to celebrate this weekend. The local bar we go to does breakfast after last call, which is great for me cause I dance my booty off there (you can dance on the bar there, let out your inner Coyote Ugly girl! I always do!) and the drunks too I guess. But this week, in honors of St. Paddy’s Day their doing Green Eggs and Ham, such a cute way to celebrate! I plan on foiling some green pigments under my eyes then topping with a glitter liner over and lots and lots of lashes. I don’t need much with my red hair. I’m already equipped to be Irish lol.

They’re pretty cool, I’m not a fan of the 80’s, but they pack the place and people get really into it. You’d like it for sure.

Hawaii is definately a melting pot. The boyfreind is from Big Island and he’s Hawaiian, Chinese and Portuguese but looks white. LOL. Go figure. Loving the green look. I still love that MAC Ombre in Ripe Peach blush. So sick they ran out. 🙁

I put on a green dress this morning only to walk outside and realize it was actually brown. LOL. But I’m wearing a green necklace so that counts right? And the hightlight of my day was waiting for the bus this morning. One of the ladies (standing away from me thank God) let it rip with a loud FART. I had to crack up (to myself of course). 🙂

This is my trusty ol’ Laura Mercier Oil Free. It photographs *really* well, but it might be a little too heavy for real life. You can always mix it in with lotion to created a tinted moisturizer to tone it down a bit though!

I haven’t used very many, to tell you the truth. I’ve heard good things about good ol’ Jergens though.

Lancome has a new line of sunless tanning lotions that look interesting called the Flash Bronzers. You might wanna check ’em out!

Gals — does anybody have a good sunless tanning rec for Heather?

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days).
