A Glittery Green and Gold St. Patrick’s Day Look with Milani and MAC

Published in: Drugstore Beauty Finds, Face of the Day (FOTD), MAC Makeup

Hawaiian fun fact of the day: It’s not unusual to meet mixed race islanders. The state’s basically a big ol’ melting pot! It’s one of the things I love about Hawaii. :) Ask a local their nationality, and they’ll usually rattle off a long list.

El Hub happens to be one of those kids, and his laundry list of nationalities includes Irish… I’m sure you see where this is going, LOL!

Every St. Patrick’s Day, he gets the urge to celebrate, and I get to be Irish for a day!

On the agenda for tomorrow night: a pub that serves green beer, and since I want to look the part, this morning I worked on my St. Patrick’s Day green and gold eye look using MAC and a mix of new drugstore stuff from Milani.

Cheeks: MAC Blush Ombre in Ripe Peach; Lips: MAC Lip Pencil in Mouth Off, MAC Lipstick in Victorian, MAC Naked Honey Salve

Eyes: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden (entire eyelid), Milani Liquif Eye Metallic Eye Liner Pencil in Gold (enter eyelid and lower lash line), Milani Infinite Liquid Eye Liner in Eternal (on lid and barely into the crease), Milani Liquif Eye Metllic Eye Liner Pencil in Black (waterlines and upper lash line), Milani Crystal Eyez in Gorgeous & Glowing (on lid), MAC Fix Studio Lash in Black (upper and lower lashes)

From left: Milani Liquif Eye Metallic Eye Liner Pencil in Gold, Milani Liquif Eye Metallic Eye Liner Pencil in Black, Milani Infinite Liquid Eye Liner in Eternal, Milani Crystal Eyez in Gorgeous & Glowing

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out — colorful and glittery but not too “out there.”

Tomorrow I may switch out the black Milani Liquif Eye eyeliner for my trusty MAC Technakohl in Graphblack… I like how dark, soft and smooth the Milani liner is, but it disappeared from my waterline within an hour. I see it maybe working better along the lash line because it really grabs the skin, and I bet it would kick butt as a creamy base for smokey eyes.

Are you wearing green tomorrow, and are ya doin’ anything fun?

Hello, ’80s

Yes, it’s true — I’m a product of the ’80s, and I have a pretty good knack for remembering pop music from the era. Every so often, though, I’ll run into a tune I can’t place, like this oldie by Orange Juice called Rip It Up. It took some YouTube research to identify.

What do ya think? Kinda catchy, yah? I was rocking out to it when the doorbell rang this morning. I was about half way done with my makeup and answered the door with one glittery eye and my hair in hot rollers, ha! Love it when that happens. The FedEx dude just stood there frozen, probably thinking, “Does not compute! Run away!”

That was the highlight of my day. How about yours? Anything new to report?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you and El Hub!!! The Hubs is part Scots part Irish so our agenda tomorrow night is a lot similar to yours!

Since ill be coming from work and meeting him at the pub, ill be in a green boat neck top and grey pinstripe trousers. I actually have a gray/green look in the works as well!!!

I love me some Milani and I think imma check out those liners!!!!

    Awesome look on you, Karen!!!

    • Karen says:

I love a gray/green combo! Oh, and your outfit sounds very cute, too. :)

Have fun drinking green beer tomorrow!

      • NINA says:

I cant wait … in my excitement earlier, one of my MAC quads fell and unfortunately, Ricepaper was my casualty. Im trying to fix it with isoprophyl alcohol … hope it works!

Its a bit chilly today but it promises to be a balmy 70 degrees later! Cant wait …. oh and in the pub were going to — they also have green milk and shamrock cookies. I think im more excited for that than the green beer LOL !!!

        • Karen says:

Oooh no! Ricepaper is the JAM. I hope you were able to fix it!

Okay, so I dunno how I feel about green milk… the thought of it kind of makes my tum turn. I’d be all over the cookies though!

          • NINA says:

Ill find out when I get home if it got fixed. I normally dampen a strip of paper towel, wrap the pan with it and weigh it down with some quarters. I also make sure I keep it in a safe place (read: away from kittiehhzzz!!!). I hope it gets fixed. :)

LOL …. the cookies are pretty awesome and the green milk a sight to behold … but yeah – not a very purdy sight! :D

          • Karen says:

LOL, speaking of kittehs and makeup, Tabs has been showing an interest in my brushes as of late. I don’t know if I should be concerned!

  2. Diana says:

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to y’all :D I love the eye makeup so much!!! It reminds me of the beautiful and vivacious spring. Definitely will run to the stores and get the Milani liners!

  3. ddevil says:

Wow, I love this look! And looks sooo good on you! :)

  4. Isabel says:

Karen, you look hot! Totally ready to party. I’m not quite as daring with the colors but they look great on you.

  5. Glosslizard says:

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I just love a good makeup theme, don’t you? :) I’m planning on rockin’ Chanel Jade on my nails and something pretty and green on the lids! I’m jealous though, I’ve been looking for that Milani pencil in gold and all my local sources only have it in black, silver and brown! Any suggestions?

    • Karen says:

Oooh, now you make me wanna do Jade! I have Blue India on my fingers, but the color’s already chipping, so it might be time to do a mid-week mani. :)

Have you tried purchasing the gold online? It’s available on Milani’s website.

  6. amy says:

That looks lovely on you. I especially like the gold metallic liquid eyeliner and I wish I can find Milani in Vancouver!

A few years ago it was kind of a difficult line to find here in the US… Hopefully they’ll be expanding soon so you can try some of their stuff!

  7. Arianne says:

YESSS! I love me some glitter and this totally rocks my boat! I really like how the whole look came together. I’m even loving the lips!

I’m totally going to wear green and golds on my eyes tomorrow too! I’m excited. :)

Yeah, baby, I oficially love greens! This is an awesome look, you’ll def rock Paddy’s day! I don’t think I’ll be doing anything special, festivities here are mostly for people who want to drink their heads off in the City, and I don’t like beer anyway. But Happy Day for those who celebrate!
BTW, is that a top or a dress you’re wearing? I like it!

It is the top of a dress… I got it at Marshall’s (a store that sells discounted designer clothing) for like, $12! :)

      How’s your week going?

  12. Hot! Looks great! You’ve inspired me to wear green eyes tomorrow! I’m a product of the 80s too so I remember this! LOL

  13. Shannon R says:

OK Karen, The green is awesome, yeah, yeah, yeah. But your skin! My God – it’s glowing and smooth and sooo beautiful! Really, you could just take pictures of your cheek and it’d be an amazing photo. So, did you start doing something different? Better skincare, foundation, photography??? I NEED to know!!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Shannon R,

I’ve been using a new primer/foundation/powder combo (Hourglass Mineral Veil/Laura Mercier Oil-Free/a 50-50 combo of MAC Prep+Prime and Blot) for the last week that’s been working really well. The natural light’s been a little better too, which helps a ton!!

  14. heyhey says:

Dammit, I didn’t see this before I left work, otherwise I woulda scooped up that Milani Infinite from the drugstore on the way home.

Highlight of my day: Running into a former coworker I hadn’t seen in three years who remembered me (we only worked together for a month) AND I *for once* didn’t look like a hot mess. Score.

  15. Anna says:

This look is gorgeous, you look so lovely. Super excited that you used the honey salve from MAC. Yum yum.

  16. marisol says:

You look great. You should do a hair tut!

You staying local? I am thinking of going to FiDi with a friend. However, I don’t bounce back as fast as I used to so we will see.

  17. Kate says:

HOT DAMN, girl! I swear, the last week or so, you have been ROCKING your FOTD shots! Serious supermodel looks – you’ve got the hair, the makeup is FLAWLESS and you’ve totally got that ‘tude – the “I know I’m hot and you know it too!”. What is your secret?!?

    • Karen says:

      Hi Kate,

I wish I had one, LOL! Honestly, I’ve been trying a lot harder to get it together in the morning. Because I work from home I don’t always have the motivation to dress up and do my hair, but lately I’ve been really trying to do everything I can to not sit around in yoga pants and T-shirts. I definitely feel better when my hair is done and I’m not dressed like a bum, ha ha!

How’s your week going? I hope you’re having a good one!

  18. I love how you layered the glitter over everything in the first shot, it looks practically holographic!!! Oh man, I will have to check out some of that Milani stuff. And the Mac blush looks so glowy and healthy on you. You look beautiful my dear! Hope you have fun on St. Patrick’s Day :D

How are you doing? Are you having a good week?

  20. Rica says:

Happy St. Patty’s day.. Bright green makeup might not be appropriate for work tomorrow, so instead, I painted my nails in green =D.

And I wish we have Milani glitter gel here… our Milani selection is really limited. Oh well.

Very true about Hawaii! I’m one of the rare ones though — I’m full Chinese.

However, I do live down the street from two Irish pubs, and there’s gonna be a block party tomorrow night. I’m so there. Green beer, here I come!

  23. Catherine says:

Woah! That’s a gorgeous look!! I might have to invest in that liquid liner, looks like so much fun. Does it come in purple too?

I’m debating whether or not I’ll do green makeup for tomorrow (will be studying for finals all day so not sure I’m going to wear makeup at all lol). I wanted to do a green NOTW for it, but I totally forgot St. Patty’s day was this week and I did my first Konad with purples… and now I don’t want to take it off! A friend suggested I paint my toenails green instead though, so I might just do that lol. =)

Love the look, but especially love the jacket you’re wearing!! Where’d ya get it??

    • Karen says:

      Hi Jessica,

I wish I could say it’s some kind of awesome designer, but it’s a random jacket I got in the Marshall’s Juniors section for $13. I just got it last weekend, so if you live near a Marshall’s there might be a chance you’d find it there.

  25. Ginger says:

One of my favorite looks!! Definitely inspiring! :)

  26. shivotra says:

I love green eyeshadow. It just looks stunning on brown eyes. Unfortch, I won’t be wearing green tomorrow. But may compensate by wearing green eyeshadow. Something by clinique and urban decay :)

I’m usually wearing greens and I have a bunch of green e/s :D My name should be – addicted_to_green lol :D

  29. Kim says:

Great look Karen! I love the glitter! Now I feel a bit lame just going for the green shirt. I did tightline today (first time ever) so we’ll see if anyone at work notices. :)

    • Karen says:

Awesome, Kim! What liner did you use, and how did it go?

      I bet if I were your co-worker I’d totally notice!! :)

      • Kim says:

It was Clinique Cream Shaper in Black Diamond. It went on really quickly and smoothly and made a nice thin line, which was great. And it still looks perfect – though it’s only been 5 hours or so. I think it makes my eyes look smaller, but I only went to the end of my lashes on the inside corner, so I might just be paranoid since it’s Day 1. I’ll keep practicing! :)

This looks great, and your skin looks amazing. What foundation have you been using lately again???? I’m home sick but had plans to go out drinking and celebrating my Irish heritage as well… plus I leave for San Francisco on Saturday! I better get better!!!! (p.s. any SF suggestions? I’m visiting the University of San Francisco Law School and need to explore the area…. I’d appreciate it! thanks!)

  35. lexi says:

So cute! My hubs is half Irish making our daughter 1/3 Irish, i guess? So yes, I get to celebrate too. I wore my green t-shirt today but with a neutral eyes and coral gloss. I was going to put a little MAC Bottle Green in my outer v but I ran out of time. Oh well, it’s not like I’m going out to the Pubs tonight anyway. Plus, I like to call pubs/bars on St. Patrick’s Day – Amateur Night! It’s just an excuse to drink excessive just like New Year’s and Cinco De Mayo.

Sorry didn’t mean to be a Kill Joy – have fun whatever you plan on doing! My hubby and I will do whisky shots at home!

  36. Rachael says:

Happy Saint Paddy’s Day! I have class to be in tomorrow at University so I can’t go out and celebrate, but I’m on standby for DD-ing for my boyfriend and his brother. I at least got to celebrate this weekend. The local bar we go to does breakfast after last call, which is great for me cause I dance my booty off there (you can dance on the bar there, let out your inner Coyote Ugly girl! I always do!) and the drunks too I guess. But this week, in honors of St. Paddy’s Day their doing Green Eggs and Ham, such a cute way to celebrate! I plan on foiling some green pigments under my eyes then topping with a glitter liner over and lots and lots of lashes. I don’t need much with my red hair. I’m already equipped to be Irish lol.

  37. Rachael says:

Hawaii is definately a melting pot. The boyfreind is from Big Island and he’s Hawaiian, Chinese and Portuguese but looks white. LOL. Go figure. Loving the green look. I still love that MAC Ombre in Ripe Peach blush. So sick they ran out. :(

I put on a green dress this morning only to walk outside and realize it was actually brown. LOL. But I’m wearing a green necklace so that counts right? And the hightlight of my day was waiting for the bus this morning. One of the ladies (standing away from me thank God) let it rip with a loud FART. I had to crack up (to myself of course). :)

This is my trusty ol’ Laura Mercier Oil Free. It photographs *really* well, but it might be a little too heavy for real life. You can always mix it in with lotion to created a tinted moisturizer to tone it down a bit though!

I haven’t used very many, to tell you the truth. I’ve heard good things about good ol’ Jergens though.
