10 Things you need to know about the new MAC Patrick Starrr collection
- It’s a 12-piece MAC makeup collab with makeup maestro and fab YouTube phenom Patrick Starrr.
- Patrick Starrr used to work for MAC as a makeup artist and a sales associate in Orlando, Florida. Now he’s a social media ?.
- He’s known for his ultra glam, more-is-more makeup looks and his “makeup is one size fits all” philosophy.
- Lippies $17.50 each, Lipglasses $17 each, Lip Pencils $17.50 each, Eye Shadow X 4 $32, Set Powder $35
- Limited edition and coming to all MAC locations and online starting December 14th, 2017
- The Patrickstarrr Glam AF quad has one new shade (frosty soft peachy pink Omigaud) and three re-promotes from the permanent line (satin creamy beige Brule, matte golden orange-brown Saddle, and matte reddish brown Embark)
- Same goes for the Patrickstarrr Goalgetter quad! Old-school faves/repromotes: frosty peachy brown Amber Lights, matte golden peachy brown Soft Brown, and matte reddish brown Swiss Chocolate.
New shade:I’m Into It (a matte dark reddish brown) [UPDATE: Thanks to reader Tasha for letting me know that this is a repromote]. - Patrick’s Powder (the loose powder) is like a 50/50 blend of MAC Set Powder in Invisible and MAC Set Powder in Peach, and the finish is matte and completely flat.
- The Patrick Woo Lipstick is warmer and more yellow than O.G. MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick.
- Every time I typed the word “Starrr” in this post, I had to stop and count the number of R’s. One, two, three! STARRR!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

P.S. If there’s anything in the collection you’d like to know more about, ask me in the comments. 🙂 I’m happy to help.
Rachel says
Mamastarrr looks like a good neutral lip color and I like the packaging! Your hair looks awesome in these pics!
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
That’s my fave out of the three lippies. 🙂 Oh, and thanks for the nice compliment. That’s second day hair, LOL! I did a little more to it than usual because I went to dinner last night in San Francisco for a brand event with the hair care Oribe. I figured I should probably at least comb it, haha. I found out that the very first store to carry Oribe products ever was Festoon salon in SF. #funfact
By the way, I found a HUGE tub of Vaseline. I wanna try your face mask! But maybe on just a small part of my face to test to make sure I don’t break out.
Tasha says
Love the pics & top 10 style of review & I especially appreciate how you put up this review earlier than the other bloggers!! & love your make-up!!
But “I’m Into It” isn’t a new eyeshadow though, it’s my fav burgundy/brown shade for hazel eyes – I’m actually surprised he didn’t make a brand new eyeshadow palette, but I do love the shades he chose
Karen says
Thanks, Tasha! I don’t know how I missed that. I’ll update the post.
Have a great Wednesday!
P.S. Are you a MAC fan?
Tasha says
No problem =] I’m too much of a MAC fan, haha
Karen says
Me too! I actually did a collaboration with them too back in 2011. Created my own Lipglass!
Linda Libra Loca says
I really want to try the face powder, even though it is for sure the least exciting product from the collection. But you had me at “flat matte”.
Karen says
MAC has an entire line of Set loose powders in different shades; you should check them out!
Maritza says
Is it me or does these colors look surprisingly basic? Whenever I think of Patrick Starr, I think over the top and sassy and these colors are like “Blah” and “Meh”.
Karen says
I think maybe he was going for classic glam, which you can do with these colors (especially in the eyeshadows). I know what you mean, though… I was surprised to see that they didn’t have any crazy lashes or glitter, because he’s so OTT with his style!
Indya says
Wow! Happy for him, his note to himself almost brought a tear to my eye. Those quads actually look great. Do you have a favorite, Karen? I’m also very much feeling the Mama Starrr lipstick!
Karen says
Hi Indya,
I like both but prefer the Glam AF quad a touch more because I can do an entire look with it easily (it’s nice to have the beige shade Brule in there to break things up so that it’s not too one-note) and of course Saddle is my jam. The Goalgetter quad is lovely, too though. I have and use Soft Brown, Amber Lights and Swiss Chocolate all the time! You can’t go wrong with either. Let me know if you have any questions about either!
Kim says
The makeup looks nice but the logo is awesome! I love the reflective, rainbow sparkle. And, I actually knew who Patrick Starrr was. Amazing, since I’m terrible about social media and culture (I rarely know the artists that MAC works with for their collections).
Karen says
Hi Kim,
He’s pretty popular on Youtube. I’ve never met him but he’s supposed to be sweet with and a big personality! 🙂
Erin says
Definitely getting Glam AF and the powder. The Mama Starrr combo looks amazing on you!
Karen says
Hi Erin,
Thank you! It’s a YLBB type of nude and I’m all about that life, LOL!
FYI, the powder should last you roughly forever. You only need a tiny bit for a completely matte finish.
Nina says
You must be in MU heaven with all those brown shadows. Lovely ! Too heavy for me. I’m a frost / luster / next to nothing chick. You look great !!
Karen says
Hi Nina,
Yeah, I love me some browns! There are two of my favorites in the quads, Soft Brown and Saddle. What do you think of the lip colors? Anything catch your eye?
Brooke says
I’m crying and I need ALL THE THINGS. Realistically I’ll get both of the Mama Starr, the two quads and the powder… might as well buy it all at this rate lol
Karen says
Hi Brooke,
The Mama Starrr Lipstick and Lipglass are both so beautiful! I think you’ll be happy with either (or both). You’ll have fun with the quads, too!
Mylinda says
I’m sure to grab at least half this collection. I felt like you didn’t say anything about the lip pencils though? Although I’m planning to grab the mama starrr lippie and gloss, I’m eyeing that pink pencil. Did you find that the quality of the products (all of them) was at par with most permanent ones? I hope the pencils weren’t stiff or dry. I worry because sometimes MAC does these special releases and the quality is amiss, esp with eyeshadows. But I like what Patrick Starrr stands for and this first collab/collection is so basic glam, it’s hard not to buy the entire lot!
Karen says
Hi Mylinda,
All three shades of the Lip Pencils are currently already in the existing collection and are available now, just not in this same LE packaging. They’re a little on the stiffer side as most MAC Lip Pencils are (the Pro Longwear Pencils are generally softer and smudgier, I find), but for me it’s not an issue as long as warm them up a little by running them across the back of my hand. I didn’t find them particularly drying compared to the permanent shades. Generally the I think the lip pencils and eye liners are nearly as hit-or-miss as the palettes can be. 🙂
Let me know if you have any more questions, happy to help!
Taz says
Hi! Can you compare mamastarr lipstick to some other Mac lipsticks like persistence or whirl? Thanks!
JCarbonel says
Mamastarrr looks absolutely beautiful on your Karen. I hope its still in stock!!
Karen says
Thanks, JCarbonel! I just checked the MAC site and it looks like it’s still available. Let me know if you end up grabbing it!
