Time: the great equalizer. More precious than tiny tabbies, Tom Ford, platinum and diamonds. I went to high tea a few weeks ago with my college crew, and we got to talking about time and how it seems like there’s less and less of it every year. Life, love, school, work, hobbies, kids and cats (of course!) happen, and then all of a sudden you realize how little time you have left for yourself at the end of the day.
Time is precious and valuable, and saving more of it is the name of the game for this cool little brand called Lune + Aster. It’s a vegan, paraben-free makeup line exclusively available at Bluemercury stores, and it was started by CEO Marla Beck in 2016. Everything in the line is focused on getting you made up and out the door in five minutes or less.
It’s not a huge line, but they do have a range of products, including a CC cream, an eyeshadow palette, a few cheek palettes, bronzers, brushes and lip glosses in prices from $18 (for a gloss) to $56 for the eyeshadow palette I’m wearing here called Midnight Sun.
I think it’s lovely, especially if you don’t want to do a lot of blending. I use it to softly define, shape and line my lids and lash lines for everyday looks, and let me tell you… it is SO NOT STRESSFUL.
The shadows fall into that sheer-to-medium pigment category. I built them up in these swatches to give an idea of the colors, which are on the neutral side and not too warm-toned or cool. They’re very Bobbi Brown-esque, both in terms of color and performance.
When I apply them with my eye brushes, the edges sheer out quickly, so it’s easy to transition the colors into each other. This would be a great palette for beginners or straight-up lazy gals, LOL!
Hey, no shame in that game. I’m lazy too. 🙂
No, seriously, I can do my eyeshadow from start to finish, including primer (I usually use the one in the white tube by NARS), with these shadows in like two minutes.
The finely milled powder feels light, almost fluffy and fab. The fluffiness, of course, means that flecks o’ shadow do get around, but as long as I remember to tap off my brush first, the fallout isn’t a big deal. Overall, the shadows stay put pretty much all day long.
Oh! — I can’t believe I forgot to mention this earlier, but THE BEST thing about this eye palette is the complete and total lack of drama with it and my fine lines. The grains completely stay out of those nooks and crannies, and…I feel like I look younger when I wear this palette. Like a wee, fresh-faced lass in her late-20s (or thereabouts), ready to take on the world. 🙂
At $56, it’s not inexpensive, for sure, but if you want simple, elegant eye makeup that doesn’t demand much of your time and effort, I think you’ll love it. Bobbi and Trish fans, especially.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I am very familiar with the Lune & Aster line as there is a Blue Mercury boutique in Westfield. I love the CC cream which I wore in the winter time. I have not tried the color cosmetics however, although the shadows look nice on your eyes. I am eyeing the Chanel Les Beiges Neutral eyeshadow palette which is pretty pricey as well.
feeling a little under the weather today. I am trying to make it through a full day at work. Wish me luck!

I’m all about the quick application and this shadow definitely looks great on you!
PS Do I detect a new font on the site? 🙂

I don´t think I have heard of the brand before, and even though I agree with time being precious I don´t think I will explore that brand. The colors are just not mine and I prefer more pigment, even if that means they are harder to blend. Maybe that is because I am so pale already, I need more help to get definition to my face.
