Um…but of course I couldn’t leave Sephora last night without grabbing at least some swatches. You know me all too well. 🙂
As I was making my usual rounds at the store down the street (I always start in the left corner by the front door and then meander counter-clockwise), Laura Mercier’s Painted Wash Liquid Lip Colours ($28 each) stopped me in my ASPCA Vans.
Bonjour, Laura! J’adore bright lipsticks.
Laura’s new line of lightweight liquid lipsticks is available now in nine vivid, deme-matte shades — Rosewood (a rosy brown), Petal Pink (a warm pink), Red Brick (reddish brown), Coral Reef (a pinkish coral), Vermillion Red (an orangey red), Golden Peach (a pale peachy pink), Fuchsia Mauve (a plum), Nude Rose (a pinkish brown) and Orchid Pink (a reddish pink).
So I walked around the store for about 30 minutes with the swatches on my arm trying to play it cool as I shopped around, but what I was really doing was seeing if the swatches would move at all once they dried.
That, and I couldn’t decide between Coral Reef and Nude Rose…
You know how after a few minutes some liquid lipsticks won’t rub off? Like the Make Up For Ever ones, I swear, they could easily stay on my skin for days. Nevertheless, those kinds of liquid lipsticks can be pretty drying on my lips, so I wanted to see if Laura’s would scoot around at all on my arm, which in this case would have been a good thing.
They did! I rubbed my fingers on the swatches, and the formula still felt a little wet. The swatches also came off easily with a regular makeup remover when I got home (didn’t need an oil-based one), so I don’t think these lipsticks will be too terribly drying.
I ended up not being able to decide on a color, though, so I left the store without bringing one home. I’m going to sleep on it another night, and then we’ll see… That’s what I do sometimes. If I still want one tomorrow, I’ll go back.
You can find all nine of Laura’s $28 Painted Wash Liquid Lip Colours now at Laura Mercier counters, Sephora stores and online.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

If you do decide to get one, go with Coral Reef! I think it will look great on you. I love this shade but I don’t think it would be very flattering on me.
Karen says
I’ll probably end up with that shade (can’t go wrong with coral). I like Petal Pink for you!
Erin says
They look nice. I like Coral Reef and Orchid Pink!
Karen says
Gah! I guess I’ll have to break down and let Coral Reef into my life…
gio says
I love Coral Reef too. And Orchid Pink. So pretty!
Karen says
Both of those shades are gorgeous. Great picks, Gio!

I like both shades that you picked out but I think I’m leaning more to Coral Reef for you 🙂

Seems like liquid matte lipsticks are all the rave right now. On social media, folks are drooling over the Anastasia Beverly Hills new lippies. I dunno. I recently tried on a lippie from the Sephora Collection. It’s the only red shade that remains from their original matte liquid lipstains (I think this is what they’re called). My lips are so naturally dry that I’m afraid to bite the bullet & add any liquid lipsticks/lipstains to my stash, though I’ve heard the Sephora ones are quite comfy. Decisions, decisions….

I purchased this– swatch unseen— in Rosewood when it first came out ( Christmastime) I have been a LM fan for many years, but I really did not like this. It is suspiciously similar to the “lip velvet” product of hers — probably 15 yrs back.
This shade was too dark for my med complexion. I am not into mattes and this looks Goth on me. And so it now resides in the bottom of my make up drawer
LM rose serum is the first product I have really liked from her in many seasons!

I am feeling Fuchsia Mauve!

Vermillion Red calls my name. Just like the dozen other orangey Reds that sit in my Makeup drawer…

The finish in the swatches kind of reminds me of OCC’s Lip Tars. It has that wet vinyl look. 🙂 I love how the roles are reversed today and folks are being *your* makeup pushers. Looks like you need to get that coral…. HAHA!
Karen says
I know, right?! I think I now have yet another excuse to go back to Sephora, haha! 😀

Peer pressure is a very real thing. You simply can’t help but give in sometimes! 🙂

Hey Melissa,
GURL, me too. I’m going to have to break down and grab one of these eventually (story of my life!). Have a nice Wednesday! 🙂

You have to try Orchid Pink. It looked great on my asian skin as a sheer wash of color or a bolder lip. And the texture is so lightweight and lovely. Now if only it were $20 instead of $28….

I have Orchid Pink and it is so pretty! It’s worth it to pay for quality!

I am so curious about these. My faves are Rosewood and Nude Rose. I think either Nude Rose or Coral Reef would be great Spring picks. Why not both and rack up those Sephora bonus points?
Fancie says
Nude Rose and Fuchsia Mauve are my kind of colors! I’ve never tried any Laura Mercier lippies before but I think these may be a good start for me
