I’m almost embarrassed by my lip product collection.
Almost.
It requires its own shelving system and contains at least 30 nearly identical coral glosses. And it confuses my husband to the point of exhaustion (“How many lipsticks does one person need, Stef?! I don’t get it!”)
But my fellow lip product junkies, you understand, don’t you? You appreciate the difference between fuchsia and hot pink. You’re staunchly opinionated about your favorite gloss applicators (DFF/doe foot forever!), and you know that the correct answer to the question, “How many lipsticks does one person need?” is, “How many lipsticks are there?”
Folks like us also know that, sometimes, nothing will do but a red lip, and when I’m having a red lip kind of day and I open my red lip drawers (yes, plural), the red I reach for most often is Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso ($22). It’s a gorgeous color, an innovative product and my favorite red. Like, ever.
Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick doesn’t stay quite all day, unless your day is six hours long (in which case, I’m terribly jealous), but for those six hours it’s not going anywhere. No transfer onto napkins, no traces left behind on hubby cheeks or puppy bellies, and no bleeding into lip lines whatsoever.
The long-running Unsung Heroes series features much-loved permanent collection products from a variety of bodacious beauty brands.
And forget any previous bad experiences you’ve had with long lasting lip products — the ones that, in exchange for extended length, leave your lips feeling like the Sahara. That’s very far from the case with Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick. The ultra-creamy vitamin E and avocado oil formula applies like a dream; you barely feel it. In all honesty, I don’t think I’ve ever felt a more lightweight formula. Once dry, you have a velvety, matte finish.
Now, about that breathtaking color. Beso is a neutral, true red that will work on anyone, provided, of course, they want bright, bold and incredibly pigmented color.
It’s a va-va-voom, pin-up sort of red that red lip lovers will flip for, whether they’re a wearer or an admirer.
Lip junkie fine details: it has a slightly flattened, flexible doe-foot applicator and a slight vanilla-mint scent that dissipates quickly. I apply Beso to my lip line with a brush, and then use the doe foot to fill in the rest.
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso is so amazing that I could almost get rid of every other red I own.
Almost.
Readers, what’s your favorite red?

Ooooh! Thank you for this post! I have found my perfect red (for now), but lipstick is such a labour of love. I am not a lipstick wearer, due to the upkeep, but I have been obsessed with finding the perfect red lip for my skin tone. This is it, for now:
I line my lips with NYX Cabaret, then carefully apply MAC Brave Red with a lip brush. I lollipop my finger to get rid of possible lipstick on teeth accidents, but I still manage to get lipstick on my teeth. 🙁
I have tried Revlon’s Colorstay lipstick, but drugstore brands are hit or miss. And I ended up with the color on my lips for a while….even after vigorous (bad, I know) scrubbing with a toothbrush. :/ What is the best way to remove long wear lip wear?
I’m headed to Ulta, and this is now on my list! 🙂 I love Stila, so I’m super stoked to try this out. Thank you 🙂

Ah yes, the lollipop trick is a goodie!
I usually remove my longwear lip products with an oil based makeup remover. It really works well.

Hello and Welcome guest blogger!!! I lovvved your post because I felt a sort of lipstick sista kinship! I too am a lover of lipstick. I love all things beauty but as my friends and family and local sales associates know, I am and forever will be a lipstick junkie . We differ in one way, I am a beige and nude connoisseur. Not a beige/nude connoisseur but a beige AND nude connoisseur . I’m sure you can guess that color descriptions that lump them together irritate me. That would be like saying to a red lover, like yourself, that coral and salmon pink are the same or that berry is the same as rose! So I applaud you coming out to the world about the abundance of lippies that you own, ain’t no shame! One wouldn’t tell an artist that they have too much paint! 🙂

I feel I am amongst my people! And I must say, a close second to reds for me is nude. So I very much understand where you are coming from!

I LOVE BESO!! My favourite way to wear it is with cherry lipliner by mac, with a little lady danger (also by mac) in the centre! so dangerous! 🙂
stef says
You sound like a lady who knows your reds – nice to meet you! 🙂

Thank you Stef for the suggestion and the tidbit about the flavor. Vanilla mint is something I’m hesitant to try since my lips have been sensitive to flavor lately but I’m willing to try something as transfer-resistant as you suggest it is.

The scent is very slight and dissipates quickly. I’m the fussiest person I know with scents and this doesn’t bother me at all. Hope it works for you!

Awww…I, too, have felt the stinging judgement from my beloved over my makeup collection. Mostly over the fact that the linen closet in our master bathroom is officially dubbed “The Makeup Closet”. There’s no towels in there, but there is an intimidating amount of lipstick and cream blush. 🙂

So in my last online Sephora order, for one of my freebies I selected a deluxe size sample of this particular lipstick, vaguely remembering I had read something somewhere that it was a great product. I finally wore it today, and OMG it’s amazing (seriously hasn’t budged all day and I ate a chili dog for lunch!) and then I remembered I read it here. After doing a search and finding this post, I realized IT’S A YEAR TO THE DAY EXACTLY. Oooooohhhh weeeiiirrrrdddd!
