The nine little lipsticks in the $39 Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick Set make me feel like Shrek, man! They’re just so precious and tiny in my paws.
Suddenly, it’s ogre time, which is like Hammer time, except without the backup dancers and shiny parachute pants.
OK, yeah, I’ve got that whole long-fingered E.T. hands thing happening, but really, my hands aren’t that big, and yet they seem like ginormous beast hands when I see myself holding one of these little lipsticks.
I’m starting to develop a complex. 🙂
It doesn’t help that I’ve already broken a few of these little lipsticks on accident. Yup, snapped the bullets right in half like She-Ra.
The nine 0.04-oz. tubes may look tough in their studded black packaging, and some of the colors clearly aren’t shy (especially those intense mattes!), but the lipstick bullets themselves are surprisingly delicate.
Either that, or I’ve developed Popeye strength, perhaps due to eating one too many Amy’s Spinach Pizzas.
Ogre girl issues aside, you gotta love these reds. Countess, Adora, Bachelorette (swoon!) and Hexagram just rock. Kat handles crimson in very cool ways (if she released a set with just all reds, that would be so bomb!) — smoothly, and with a fearlessness when it comes to pigment. Expect to get hooked by these tiny tubes and end up craving their full-size versions.
The mattes last on my lips from 4-6 hours, and the creams, from 3-4.
Some of the colors don’t really do it for me, like the (super patchy) pale nude matte and funky, iridescent ’80s purplish magenta, but you could always stash those in a drawer for next Halloween…or give them to a younger niece who wants to play with makeup (just don’t hand her the shade called Sexer, unless you want that tea party with Bobo the Bear to take an awkward turn).
The limited edition $39 set seems a little hard to find online, but it should be available now at your nearby Sephora store.
Desperately seeking sunny weather
Finally, a break in the storm!
I haven’t seen the actual sun in days, but at least it stopped raining. For now.
The other night we had the whole scary weather shebang — high winds, heavy rains, loud thunder and lightning. The storm even knocked down some traffic signs and patio umbrellas.
None of our old oak trees fell down, though, which is a big relief (knock on wood, no pun intended), because that would have been terrible. I sure love those trees…
I realized the other day while getting soaked out at lunch that I need a decent raincoat.
I do have a boxy black one with a hood that I got from The Gap about 10 years ago, and it gets the job done, but I think it makes me look like a tiny serial killer…
I like this red London Fog coat at Nordies, but they don’t have my size in stock.
Fashionable gals, if you have any cute raincoat recs, please send them along. This vertically challenged, waterlogged girl needs help!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

The only thing that impresses me is the packaging and the dinky ones are adorable! 🙂
Sara says
I legit cracked up when you said tiny serial killer. Somehow the visual of that sounds incredibly adorable X)
But wow I wish we had Kat Von D here in Singapore, those lippies look quite stunning (and again so small and adorable).

I love trial size things, I almost never get through a whole lipstick, so These Would be perfect.

Too bold for me! And aw noes, you snapped some of them in two? What a shame 🙁
Kim says
It’s not your hands – these little guys are just funnily shaped. They seem very short and fat, and the spikes don’t help. They actually remind me of old-fashioned hair rollers (curlers). Do you remember those?
Oh, and Happy Friday. I’d be remiss if I didn’t push the Burberry raincoat option. They look very reasonably priced at Nordstrom. OK, they’re not reasonably priced but they are lovely and it is almost Christmas. 🙂
Karen says
Happy Friday to you too!
Yes, I remember those old-fashioned hair rollers. I may have a few rollin’ (haha) around here somewhere.
Soooo… I’ve thought about the Burberry raincoat option. Maybe that will have to be my present to myself. 🙂
What are you and the boys up to this weekend?
Kim says
I think that would be an awesome present! We were all hockey’d up this weekend, as usual. This time they split so I couldn’t watch them both play on Sunday. 🙁 On a brighter note, we got our tree – YAY! It’s crazy big and I love it! The Grinch (otherwise known as the Hubs) did the usual complaining about it being ridiculous but it was pretty half-hearted. I think the boys and I are bringing him around. Or, he’s just giving up! 🙂 On a sadder note, we had to move Harriet (Kitty 2) into her own room in the basement because her seizures haven’t stopped and we were wet vac’ing pee from the carpet 3 – 4 times per day. The poor girl is on anti-seizure meds in addition to the thyroid 2x per day. She’s gaining weight and seems to be perkier but she’s also a bit disoriented and we haven’t seen improvement in the seizures yet. The vet said it could take a few days but if she didn’t respond, it was most likely a brain tumor that could not be cured. A sad time for her (and us, of course).

This set is so cute! I’m so mad I can’t find it online though. I had a feeling all of the holiday stuff would sell out before I receive my email. I hope there’s a restock before the sale is over!

What a cute set! The colours are so bold.
Krista says
I really like this set!! Well some of the colors aren’t the greatest but I love all things small epically lipsticks!
Majick says
Wow, when I saw your swatches I literally let out a gasp. I was put off by some of the other reviews but after seeing your swatches I’m sorry I didn’t pick this one up. Most of the colors seem great. The chalky one I’d have to see on the lips. I own Adora and for a glittery red I thought for sure it would scream drag queen but it doesn’t, it’s really beautiful.
THen when I read your comment about a tea party with BoBo taking an “awkward” turn I laughed out loud. (that totally deserved spelling it out.):-)
i really need a raincoat too but I’m lazy. I’m waiting for it to find me I think. LOL What I would love is a basic mid-calf trench with a warm zip out lining. I would like it in either classic khaki or black. I can’t wait to see a pic of what you end up with.

This line is so hit-and-miss on the formula. I would stay away from Agatha and Motorhead. I have Sexer and Wonderchilde. So that’s nearly half the shades there. I’d probably just buy a couple of the reds separately.

Zappos has a Lauren by Ralph Lauren Skirted Rain Coat that’s stylish and won’t break the bank.
Erin says
I love mini’s but everyone I hear of recently is having cracking issues!
Nicole says
London Fog has very pretty raincoats in petite sizing as well as regular. I love mine (I opted to “ZOMG buy it” when I saw it at Ross for a pittance of what I’d pay on the website). Burberry…Yum…but so out of my price range if I want to keep hoarding makeup. 🙂
Alyssa Melanie says
I so love Bachelorette on you, Miss Big-hands-ET-fingers! LOL I’m just kidding! You don’t have big hands and long fingers are sexy. 😉
Have a great weekend, Karen. 🙂
Erica says
I actually bought these & returned them. It’s been over 4 years sinCE I’ve returned any makeup, period. There were a few that were nice quality but 3 mini lipsticks that are good outweighed the 6 that sucked.
It’s unfortunate, because her liquid Lightening liners are the best eyeliner I e ever used.

We just switched cell phone carriers and got 2 iPhone 6s…..I think those are our Christmas presents to each other.
