Mine are (in no particular order)…
- Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner in 88 Noir Intense — This intense dark black pencil liner doesn’t annoy my sensitive water lines and stays put all day long! I go through one of these every few months because I use it ALL THE TIME to tightline. Yup, we roll deep…
- Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen in Deeper — All that and a bag of striped kittens with chunky paws and tiny tails. Hands down, Deeper is the easiest black liquid liner pen I’ve ever used. It draws jet black lines with crisp edges, and they last at least 10 hours and usually more. CRAZY expensive, though, at $56, erhmahgawd! But it’s the real deal.
- MAC Eye Kohl in Powersurge — I’ve worn this golden bronze pencil liner, like, seriously, at least once a week for the past eight years, mostly on my lower lash line. I love this one because it defines my eyes without looking overdone. It’s an absolute MAC must.
How about you? What are your 3 go-to eyeliners, and why do you love ’em?
Your friendly neighborhood (ready to pop!) beauty addict,
Karen

My three favorite liners are Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Hustle a metallic brown shimmer. It’s my go to brown shade. Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Waterproof liner in 21L a dark metallic gray. I like it because gray isn’t as stark as a black liner on my super pale skin. Last but not least, Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof in either 926 Purple Choc or 83 Cassis. I like a good purplish liner every now and then. The best thing about all three of these, is that I can draw a thin line with them and once they’re on they stay put without running, smudging, fading or flaking. They are like my Dear Husband, super reliable.
Eileen says
Prestige Total Intensity: super soft, creamy, and pigmented; great for when I’m in a hurry
Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eye Liner: doesn’t smudge, intense black, easy to draw a crisp wing, removes easily
Clio Waterproof Pen Liner: same benefits as the Milani but comes in more colors
Kellee says
Jane Cosmetics Water Resistant Eyeliner in Black
Make-Up Forever Graphic Eyeliner in Black
Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in Nude

I have two Bobbi brown creamy pencil liners I love, one in forest green and the other metallic brown. I usually load them onto a pencil brush for better control (so might as well get a paint pot, right, but oh well!). The color payoff is great. The third I use a lot is actually, and surprisingly to me, a Sephora product. It’s a simple deep black with a thin, flexible felt tip. An MA recommended it, so I bought it on a whim. I get really good dark lines with it, right in there with my lashes, with very little effort and no smudging. I still don’t have a go-to liner for my waterlines, but after all the stylo yeux rah-rah here I’m def going to give it a go! Sounds lovely. I’d love to find a good light, brightening color as well as dark and dramatic!

Okay, don’t laugh at me but I only have two eyeliners that I regularly wear:
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in goldmine and Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Waterproof in deep purple.
However, on Sunday night, even though I was tired and you’re not supposed to kon-mari stuff at night, I went through all my makeup.
I only threw out/gave away a grocery bag full of stuff I either never wore but was still fine or stuff that just needed to be tossed.
Everything else is now all organized. All the eyeliners/shadows/tools together in one container and so on and so forth through lipsticks, lipglosses and liners.
I put foundations, CC creams and concealers and highlighters all in one big bag, which also has blushes and all in one products like the Becca Beach Tints.
Then there’s another bag for the weekday face, which I can just grab and have everything right there on days when I just have to scoot out the door quickly.
So my point in telling you all of this is that I have a zillion eyeliners in my eyeliner case from samples and sets that I’ve bought at Sephora that I haven’t tried. There’s Kat Von D., Smashbox, a variety of brands, mainly in blacks and darker shades, so I’m looking forward to finally trying all of those to see if there’s a black that will stay put without giving me raccoon eyes before I’ve finished my morning espresso.
Baby girl, we’re all waiting for you! We can’t wait to see your little face!!

Lise Watier blackest black is the best, and available to the US at lisewatier.com
Jennifer says
Thanks Kathy! I haven’t heard of that brand. I’ll give it a try.
Chelsea says
Oooh, this is fun!
In no particular order:
Clinique Pretty Liquid Eyelining Pen in Brown
Clinique Quickliner Intense in Intense Peridot (I’m trying this instead of my beloved Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Khaki Précieux because that makes my eyes itchy now -_-)
Stila Smudge Stick in Violet – this is a recent purchase, but I really like the formula, and the bright color is fun!
Georgia says
NARS Eye Paints – Snake Eyes, Ubangi and Baal Bek are my favorites
For pencils: Bobbi Brown Gel pencils – Hunter and Black Navy are my faves there
Brian says
My favorites are:
Lancome Artliner
MAC Fluidline
L’Oreal Silkissime
Rachel says
I second the Lancome artliner, and the silkissime is a pretty good dupe. Pencils, no matter what the formula, just don’t last long on my oily lids!
Lisa M. says
Urban Decay 24/7 in Empire, Tornado, & Mildew
In my case, I notice the lighter shades in UD don’t last as long as the darker shades. I want to try the Chanel one.
Maria says
I was using MAC Blacktrack religiously but I’ve found that it smears quite a bit. Recently an NYX store opened in Valley Fair Mall and I decided to try NYX Matte Liquid Liner. The applicator sucks so I use an Inglot liner brush instead and it is super dark and doesn’t smear at all; it also lasts all day.
I love MAC Eye Kohls Teddy and PowerSurge but they smear a lot so the smudged look has to be what I’m going for that day….
Basak says
Karen, your #1 and and #3 are my all time favorites as well. Totally your influence 🙂
Bella says
Bobbi Brown Black Chocolate
Chanel Stylo Yeux in Purple Choc
Charlotte Tilbury Barbarella Brown
Yup, I love not quite black.
Kathy Smith-Woodcock says
use lise watier pencils for the most part aqs they are one of the bestsellers in the line, for good reason. US customers can purchase on line as i have seen many people who were interested in the brand. It is a high quality Canadian makeup and skincare line i use it about 60% of my collection.

My favorites are : Bobbi Brown Black Plum makes my brown eyes pop!, MAC GraphBlack techakohl stays on my water line, Urban decay Demolition deep matte brown . I’m still searching for my holy grail pen liner but I like Jordana’s a lot.
Allison says
1. You’d pretty much have to rip the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil out of my cold, dead hands. I wear Demolition the most but also Shadow and Rock Star.
2. Bobbi Brown Long Wear gel eyeliner in black or gun metal, when I’m feeling particularly coordinated and want a cleaner or narrower line.
3. Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner – no you can’t wear it every day, but when you want to bling it up a bit it’s completely perfect (and always gets positive comments).
Jennifer says
Oooh, I’ve been eyeing (ha, no pun intended) the Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter at Sephora. Perhaps I’ll have to take the plunge. It looks super fun.
Ashley says
I wear contacts and have very sensitive skin, plus I like to workout in the middle of the day, so finding the right eyeliners / concealers / mascara has been a process! These two are my hands down favorites for every day use.
Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof in Noir and Sable — perfect for tight lining, can smudge right after it goes on, but after that, it doesn’t move all day, even with rain, sweat, and (most) tears.
Lancome Le Crayon Kohl in Black Coffee — it is the most beautiful color and intensity and glides on / blends so smoothly; doesn’t last quite as long as waterproof styles, but doesn’t get nearly as smudgy as most other kohl pencils I’ve tried.
Sakura says
My favorites in order are:
1. CANMAKE Hyperslim gel liner (Brown or Black)
2. Physician’s Formula 2-in-1 Lash Booster + Serum (Black)
3. Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liner (Royal Blue)
I am still trying to get pencils to work for me.
Erin says
I can’t think of 3 I have to have but…
1. Prestige makes some nice ones
2. I loved my Chella liquid liners but they dry up too fast
3. L’Oreal Silkissime is alright and it’s my current cheap-o go to.
Erin says
I take that back, I need Guerlain Kohl!
Monica says
My fave eyeliners are
– Maybelline Eyestudio in Blackest Black (super creamy, easy to use, pigmented and cheap!)
-Mac’s Teddy eyekohl for my lower lash line, I love it and I have repurchased several times. I feel that as I age black liner in the lower lash line looks too harsh and makes me look tired and… older? (gasp!)
Kwmechelle says
Oh this one’s easy!
1) Urban Decay Darkside liner. It’s not black & it’s not brown. It’s somewhere in the middle & makes the perfect addition to my lower lash line. Black on its own looks too dark for me & brown on its own isn’t deep enough. I was thrilled to find this one.
2) Tarte Tarteist gel eyeliner. I love the packaging on this one because it doesn’t dry out like other gel eyeliner pots. I also enjoy the formula. I find it long lasting on my oily eyelids but, most importantly, this one lasts a long time so I’m not tossing out a pot of mostly unused gel liner & buying another one a short time later. Saves mah pennies.
3) …that Tom Ford eyeliner you mentioned above has been on my wish list for Forever. I swear it’s got the best reviews on the interwebs & I’ve been wanting it for soooo long. One day, dear Tom Ford eyeliner pen, you’ll be mine! And I won’t feel bad about selling my birthright to own you because you cost so much dayum (makeup) money. I’ll look good & have a banging super crisp cat liner flick. Yeah, it’s that serious.
P.S. Please overlook the fact that I don’t actually have #3. A girl can dream, right? 🙂
Kirsten says
Oh, I like this topic. My favorites are the Marc Jacobs highliners in jazzberry and rococo and a UD 24/7 one in the color roach (I think, too lazy to get up and check for sure).
Michelle says
Urban Decay in Roach
Urban Decay in Lust (disc.?)
Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid in Sabbath (also disco’d). Since 2 out of 3 will soon run out, I guess that gives me an excuse to keep shopping? ☺
Alexis says
MAC kohl pencil – coffee – the easiest way for me to look polished with the smallest amount of eye makeup. My favorite black/brown liner
Bobbi Brown gel liner in Caviar – this is like MAC Coffee in gel form.
NARS eye paint in Black Valley – a great black gel liner
Allison C says
Those are three lovely ones you chose! Mine are a bit more prosaic: Eyeko Fat Eyeliner, Jesse’s Girl, Jordanna Cat Eye Liner
India says
My go to liners are:
The sephora collection black pencil
The urban decay 24/7
The palladio (I think it’s a felt tip, ah I should know this, it’s incredible though)
Rachel R. says
1. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Perversion. It’s the darkest, richest, creamiest, best black eyeliner I’ve ever used. HG black eyeliner for me. It never transfers or smears. Plus it’s the only thing that doesn’t make my eyes water when I tightline my upper waterline.
2. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Roach. This is my HG brown eyeliner. I think the bronzy golden-brown color is very versatile. It looks fabulous with my hazel/green eyes. It doesn’t transfer or smear, which is important with oily eyelids like mine.
3. L’oreal Infallible Silkissime in Green Ivy. I think the Silkissime liners are the best drugstore eyeliners on the market. I love all the colors, but I wear Green Ivy the most. It’s a perfect shimmering olive golden-green that looks fantastic with my eye color. The Silkissime’s are incredibly pigmented and creamy, and stand up to my oily lids without smearing. They are also inexpensive enough to buy two of and use as lipliners for my unconventional lipstick colors. Green Ivy is the perfect lipliner to go with Nyx Wicked Lippie in Trickery, for example.
Susan C. says
1. Sonia Kashuk Eyeliner Palette – I love this palette. Never line my waterline because my sensitive eyes are teeny, so this powder palette is my daily jam. The compact fluffy brush that comes with the kit will work in a pinch if you don’t get too much product on it, but I usually use my Japonesque angled eyeliner brush. The colors I use most often are the brown, the charcoal grey and the olive green (love this!). A little product goes a long way, and the price is right.
2. On the rare occasion I want to use a pencil liner, I’ll grab a Rimmel Exaggerate or Physicians Formula Shimmer Strip pencil from the set for blue eyes (the PF are a bit hard for my tastes, but I may as well use them up since I have ’em.).
3. On the even rarer occasion I want to use liquid, I’ve had the most luck/least awkwardness with NYX The Curve liner. (Still working on technique because anything cold and wet touching my eyelid makes me blink rapidly and then cry. Waaah.)
Rebecca says
Stila Stay All Day in dark brown, Estee Lauder Double Wear pencil in forest green, Sephora retractable waterproof in matte charcoal.
Fran says
The lining I do every day is tightlining, and I like a good gel liner for that. My current favorites are NARS Eye Paint in Transvaal (grey) and IT Cosmetics gel liner in Midnight (blue) and Espresso (neutral brown).
Heather L says
My three are Butter London Wink in Brown Sugar, Starlooks in Ultra Olive, and Julep in Raisin… If I need a different color, I use one from one of these three brands. They are the only ones I find I can get a smooth, even line with no tugging or skipping.
Kiss & Make-up says
– Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Liner (for my lower waterline)
– Clinique Pretty Easy eyeliner pen (for thin and precise wings)
– Bourjois Master Smoky Shadow Pencil (for smokey eyes, obviously :-))

L´Oréal Super Liner in Extra Black Gloss: my favorite liquid liner
L´Oréal Super Liner Silkissime pencil liner: for lining my water line

Whiskey, whiskey and more whiskey! Not a particular fan of the drink but completely devoted to the UD liner. 🙂
Katherine M says
I’m in love with these eyeliners:
UD 24/7 in Uzi (it’s the perfect complement to my green hazel eyes and is a more subtle color than black for the light makeup requirement of my job currently).
Laura Mercier in Black Violet (brings out the green tones and smudges nicely for a more natural look).
UD 24/7 in Delinquent (a nice smokey purple that complements the green tones).
I don’t wear jet black liner as much just because it’s too harsh for my job right now and I need a natural look. Softer colors that complement my eye color have grown on me a lot more over the years!
Natalie says
1. Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner in Black Ink
2. Sephora thin felt tip liquid eyeliner pen (this thing is awesome!)
3. Sephora waterproof eyeliner pencil (black)
