Our weekend may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean the fun’s anywhere near over. Grab a drink, kick off your shoes, and welcome to the party. The open thread starts now. 🙂
If you’re new to the open thread, here it is in a nutshell:
Anything goes! It’s a chat fest where we get together in the comments at the bottom of this post to chill and chat about whatever’s on our minds — makeup, cooking, relationships, whatever. And please feel free to reach out to me or to anyone else (everyone here is really nice!).
It goes on all day (and night), so stop by if/when you can, and as often as you’d like.
A few topics to kick-start the convo…
- Are you into typography, and do you have a favorite font?
- Have you ever been to a drive-in movie theater?
- If you won the lottery this week (say $30 million), what are the first few things you’d do?
Talk to you soon!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Catherine says
I’m not super into typography, but I do love Helvetica Neue Light!
Aaaand, I’m not sure if you’ve heard yet, but MAC’s Rodarte Collection is kicking up quite the storm of controversy. I’m personally disgusted by the direction they took with all this. And so far there are 34 other bloggers who’ve written up their thoughts on it too: http://bit.ly/bloggerzunite.
And … even if you don’t care about Rodarte or MAC, please read about the situation in Juarez, Mexico (which is what the controversy is about) – NPR’s Who’s Killing the Women of Juarez and Amnesty International’s The Juarez Murders.
.-= Catherine’s last blog post… MAC Rodarte Collection – WTH =-.
Karen says
Yes, I’ve heard about it (linked to it on Saturday Surfing yesterday). Thanks for sharing those links.
Tiffany says
Hey girlies!
I love the drive-in! Unfortunately we got rained out last night so we didn’t get to go see inception 🙁
If I won the lotto I would drop out of grad school in a hot second, lol! What would you do, Karen?
Terri says
Tiffany – what are you in grad school for?
Tiffany says
Hi Terri! I’m in an industrial/organizational psychology program.
Terri says
That sounds very complicated! I’m currently getting my doctorate in education, so I sympathize with the craziness of grad school. One of the things I would do if I won the lottery would be to take the next year off so I could finish my dissertation 🙂
Tiffany says
Lol I know – I wish they would come up with a shorter name! It’s basically the psychology of work.
Do you like your grad school?
Terri says
I really like grad school, but I’m ready for it to be over. I’ve spent most of my life in school, and I’m looking forward to graduating and getting a real job (again).
What are you hoping to do with your degree?
Tiffany says
I have been a student my whole life! Well, except for the first 5 years of life, lol. I’m hoping to do research, or consulting would be my second choice. What job are you hoping for?
Terri says
I hope to be a college professor when all is said and done, but I would also like to do research (adolescents’ reading practices, which is what my dissertation is about). I also wouldn’t mind doing consulting or curriculum planning.
Just thinking about the typical workplace, I bet that your research would be fascinating! Do you have any topics in mind?
Tiffany says
Let’s see, my thesis is on workplace aggression/violence, my research for my job (as a research asst) is mostly military stuff, and I hope to do my dissertation on training. So I want to wear many hats, lol.
Nina says
That was my masters! 🙂
Karen says
Oh no! What’s up with the rain? It’s supposed to be summer, summer, summertime.
I honestly have no idea what I’d do first. Being the nerd that I am, I’d probably do something practical, like, hire somebody to upgrade our air conditioner or get power locks put in the car, LOLOL.
Tiffany says
Ugh it has been raining so much this summer 🙁 there were flash flood warnings today.
Lol that’s too funny. Hopefully you’d fit in some makeup shopping at some point 🙂 I think the second thing I would do is buy my mom and my FIL each a house.
Karen says
Seriously? That’s crazy! I hope you guys are on high ground!
I’d definitely buy both sets of parents houses… and send them on cruises around the world. 🙂
Eileen says
Have I ever been to a drive-in movie? Oh, yes indeed! Because admission was charged per vehicle rather than per person, it was common for parents to take their own kids as well as a gaggle of neighborhood kids. We always had a blast. Then, when I was in my teens, the drive-in was the place to go with your main squeeze for some serious necking. All those comic parodies on TV or in movies–you know, the ones that show a slew of steamed up windows–well, those are for real–woo hoo!
Karen says
Hi Eileen,
There used to be a drive-in movie in the town I grew up in, Union City. They tore it down about ten or so years ago and put in a Wal Mart and a strip mall. I used to LOVE going with my family! I never went as a teen though…
Terri says
Hi everyone!
Karen – I hope that Tabs is behaving better (even though your Facebook and Twitter posts about his bad behavior were funny).
To answer the questions:
1. I used to have to create props and display boards for plays, so I used to love typography. My favorite “everyday” fonts are Times New Roman (I have to use it for my school papers, so I’ve gotten used to seeing it), Helvetica, Verdana, and Georgia. However, I love fancy script fonts. My favorite is Vivaldi, but I also like Champignon, Freebooter Script, and Shelby Script.
2. I’ve never been to a drive-in movie theatre 🙁
3. If I won the lottery, I would give part of it to my immediate family (siblings and mom), and then I would arrange to go away for a week before classes start up again (I’d go spend a week in San Francisco or New York…).
Karen says
Hi Terri!
Nice to “see” you again! I think the warm weather is making Tabs totally nuts. He really misses his life as an outdoor kitty, methinks. 🙁 I know keeping him indoors is better for him, but I feel so guilty sometimes.
Want to know something funny? We are both on the same font wavelength. Times New Roman is my jam! I’ll have to check out your scripty fonts… I’ve been stuck on P22 Corinthia for the last few months and need some new juice.
Terri says
Poor Tabs! I hope that his wanderlust gets better. All of my outdoor cats met with unfortunate ends, so keeping him indoors is for the best. My friend’s cat has been crazy too (she’s been jumping on the counters and flinging water out of glasses) – maybe it is the weather…
I’m so excited to meet a fellow Times New Roman fan! I actually really like it – it is a classic. You can check out my favorite script fonts here: http://bestdesignoptions.com/?p=904
Nina says
Heya I checked that link out and fell in love with Champignon! 🙂
Terri says
I’m glad you like it – I think it looks so elegant but it isn’t too fussy.
Nina says
I love it and wish I had met it when I made several of my friends’ wedding/baby/bridal shower invites. So elegant!
Karen says
Sorry to hear about your outdoor kitties. They’re with their friends at the rainbow bridge.
Ooh, thanks for the link to the scripty fonts!
As for Times New Roman, I love it because it’s classic, but not too stuffy. 🙂
Terri says
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good base coat and top coat? Also, any recommendations for a pink polish with gold undertones? I used to have some polish from Estee Lauder in this color, but they don’t make it anymore.
Amber says
Hey Terri, my favorite gold-pink polish is OPI Senorita Rose-alita. It is pretty bold, but it goes well with a wide range of pink clothing.
My favorite top coat is Out the Door. I’m a complete klutz so using a quick-dry topcoat is the only way I can do my nails.
.-= Amber’s last blog post… Dragon boats =-.
Terri says
Thanks for the suggestions Amber! I’ll definitely check out Rose-alita.
I’m a total klutz too (particularly when it comes to my nails), so anything quick drying is welcome.
Tiffany says
I use Essie first base as a base coat and OPI top coat. They both get the job done!
Karen says
Hey Terri,
I use Essie First Base coat and Seche Vite top coat.
Terri says
Thanks Karen and Tiffany! I’ll have try out the Essie base coat – I’m not that familiar with Essie products, but I liked the one nail polish I have from that brand.
dani@callitbeauty says
30 million dollars?!
ok, first of all, i would buy my parents a nice house and generally just support them so they won’t ever have to work again.
second, i’d record my own album. i’m an aspiring performer and it’s always been a dream of mine to record an album and so that’s top on my list.
there’s also this building/lot in the city i live in that’s been abandoned because the contractor didn’t have enough money. so i’ll buy that and turn it into a performing arts school. there will be acting lessons, vocal lessons, music lessons, dance lessons, the works! i’m really passionate about the performing arts and i would love to give kids a chance to experience the beauty of being onstage.
.-= dani@callitbeauty’s last blog post… Boots Original Beauty Formula Cleansing Milk – Review =-.
Karen says
Hi Dani,
That’s cool that you’re an aspiring performer. Are you a singer, songwriter or an instrumentalist? Or do you do a little bit of everything?
I used to be very involved with the arts when I was a kid. I miss doing it!
dani@callitbeauty says
i’m a singer/dancer 🙂
although the running joke in my family is that i play the cowbell (and rather well, thank you very much) so you can say i’m an instrumentalist as well :p. haha!
you should get back into the arts! where/are you a performer too?
.-= dani@callitbeauty’s last blog post… Boots Original Beauty Formula Cleansing Milk – Review =-.
Karen says
Yeah, I played a handful of instruments, sang and danced. I was taking hip hop dance classes until about a year ago… then we moved. The studio’s about a 20 minute drive from where we live now; before it was less than 5. I’m still trying to find another place up here to take classes.
Anyway, what kind of dance do you do?
Amber says
Hmm, $30 million. First thing I’d do is wish my boss luck finding my replacement. Then I’d take a vacation to the Maldives. When I got back from that, I’d start looking for land to buy for a farm!
.-= Amber’s last blog post… Dragon boats =-.
Karen says
Ooh, great idea. I guess I’ll be seeing you in Maldives, then! I’ve always wanted to go so I could stay in one of those fancy beach villas on the ocean:
http://www.maldivestourism.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/maldives-resort.jpg
Amber says
Heck yeah! I also want to spend a day at Huvafen Fushi’s underwater spa!
Karen says
That sounds cool… I might go with if I can medicate myself somehow, LOL! I have mild claustrophobia and the thought of being somewhere under water for an extended period of time makes me anxious! I guess that’s why I’m not a diver…
Mona says
I’m not into typography but i love a fancy script.
I used to go the drive in almost every weekend as a kid. When I moved back to Chicago, hubby & I took our girls only to discover our local drive in was closed down ;(
If I won the lotto I’d definitely relocate (Chicago’s winters are starting to kick my arse), give hubby the capital to open a bbq joint, take a few trips, yadda yadda yadda
Karen says
Hi Mona,
Where do you think you’d go? Maybe someplace tropical?
I’ve never been to Chicago but I’d love to go someday.
Kate & Zena says
Oh Karen, you do not want to come here to Chicago or Chicagoland right now. It’s absolutely miserable! The winters are awful too! Early and late summer are my favorite times here! High 70s, low 80s with little humidity.
Karen says
Noted! Hopefully I’ll make it out there someday soon!
Kate & Zena says
Hm, it depends on the font. I love fonts that are in cursive because I’m always on the hunt for the one that looks closest to mine (it’s weird, I know, but there has got to be a font out there that looks like my handwriting).
Ah yes, the Rodarte collection. I left my thoughts on MizzWorthy’s site. That’s the only place I’m leaving them. Why?I feel much better just saying my opinion once and repeating the same thing over and over again starts to make me feel robotic. I will say the one good thing about this collection is that it allowed me to research to what is going on down in Ciudad Juarez. I had no clue that was happening until I read some of the controversy on Temptalia.
Can I just say I wish the humidity would go elsewhere? I love the high 80s, but not when there’s absolutely oppressive humidity. It feels like I’m walking through fly paper! Zena is pissed, to say the least, at me since I haven’t taken her on a walk for two days! It’s just too humid! I have a spattering of fresh bruises on my arms and legs from her body slamming into mine.
Karen says
I don’t mind humidity as long as there’s wind, like in Hawaii! At least my skin doesn’t feel drym ha!
Kate & Zena says
There’s wind, but it seems to blow IN the humidity since I live near the lake. I feel like the fox in The Sword in the Stone that chases after Arthur and Merlin. Tired. getting lower to the ground and panting because I can’t breathe. It doesn’t help I tend to be really oily in summer so I feel hotter because my hair is plastered to my face and neck. Give me dry heat any day!
Karen says
Dry heat is fine until you get into the triple digits. The town where I went to college got into the 100s during the summer. I don’t miss that!
shontay says
I went to see Inception. It changed my life. I’m going back to see it again and again. Especially since I want to drool over leonardo :).
Karen says
We’re going to watch it tonight! I can’t wait.
Laura says
1. Are you into typography, and do you have a favorite font? No, I usually have to write all of my papers in Times New Roman so..lol
2. Have you ever been to a drive-in movie theater? Ya, when I was like eight or something. Our movie was born so I turned around and watched Sister Act on the other screen ha!
3. If you won the lottery this week (say $30 million), what are the first few things you’d do? BUY A HOUSE! Finish my degrees and go to fashion school, and then get my cats some cool things oh! and buy my bf a prius! Then take care of the rest of the fam. Then save save save!
Karen says
LOL… I’d buy Tabs a few cool things, too, but the first thing would be a silky purple ascot. I think that cat belongs in one.
Terri says
Tabs would totally rock a silky purple ascot!
Karen says
Wouldn’t he though? And a smoking jacket with a velvet collar! That is my dream.
Laura says
Hahahahaha! Ya he probably does! He’d sure rock it! Purple = royalty
I’d probably pick up an expanded wardrobe for Stink and Guppy too lol I’m sure Stink would just love to wear more goofy things like the ones I already make him wear (ie a snuggie I use to discipline him with) haha..
Karen says
I’ve actually contemplated getting Tabs a snuggie, LOL! But I want to have it so I could take him around town with me.
How do you use it to discipline Stink?
Laura says
Haha that’s cute!
Well, he acts up a lot. Like he bites my ankles and my arms. Just random non stop attacks or he’ll do other crazy stuff like eat plastic bags or pick on Guppy. So time outs don’t work too much he just comes out more determined. So I noticed that when I put a snuggie on him he INSTANTLY calms down. He won’t attack anymore and he just chills. Even after you take it off of him he’s still pretty chill. lol weird way of disciplining. I noticed that when I make him wear like one of those American Apparel shirts for pups he’s calms down too! And he comes over and cuddles and purrs. It sounds awful right? LOL
Karen says
Is it hard to get the American Apparel t-shirts on him? Hmm, I wonder if Tabs would let me get away with that…
Nina says
If we won 30 million, I would invest it and live off the proceeds. Most probably in an island that we would own. It would have all the amenities needed and easy access to a major city. 😀
Typography wise, my favorite font is Franklin Gothic Medium, and when im being all fancy, I like to use it in small caps. 😀
Karen says
Franklin Gothic Medium is new to me! I like how clean it is. The book version is nice too!
And yeah, I wouldn’t mind owning an island. If it’s good enough for Francois Nars… 😉
Nina says
I know …. maybe Francois (first name basis yo!) and I can be neighbors! LOL….
I used Franklin Gothic Medium in Small Caps for the babyshower invites! 🙂
Karen says
LOL! You could trot on over to his mansion to ask to borrow a cup of sugar… and some Multiples.
Ooh, nice choice for the baby shower invites. I bet it looked clean and welcoming, but not stuffy.
Nina says
That $30 million would be a real miracle for me because right now, I’m in a place where I hate to be. I have serious financial and therefore educational issues and have literally no idea about what to do. I believe the very first thing I’d do is to sit down and think and decide what I want to do with my life, because God knows I feel so confused.
Karen says
Hi Nina,
Sorry to hear that things are rough for you right now. I think we all go through patches like that… hang in there.
Karen says
Hey True Blood Fans,
Does anybody else want Sookie and Alcide to get together?!?
Nina says
Hrmmmmm … a little part of me likes them together but im a forever and ever Sookie-Eric fan! 😀
Tiffany says
Yah, I like Eric or Alcide for Sookie. They are both so hot! I was never team Bill, lol.
Tiffany says
Speaking of TB, WOW Franklin is craaaazy!
Karen says
I’m getting ready to watch it! Don’t tell me what happens!!
Lucia says
Hi Karen,
I read your blog daily, I love your posts and TABS!!!!!!!!! Anyway, this is the first time a write a comment here (shy face). But I decided to enter in the open tread because of the lotto question.
The first thing I will do is buy me a house (here in the US) and another for my parents in Peru near to the beach! Help my mother financially run her shelter for battered women in Peru, and open libraries for kids in Peru.
Then I will buy my husband and I a Mini Cooper (we own a Toyota Camry 1992). Pay for med school (my next step after this depressing phd)
If something is left I will buy lots of Chantecaille and Chanel…I think that it is….30 millions sounds a lot, but is it really? probably at this point in my list I already run out…right?
Karen says
I think you’d still have enough left over for some Chanel and then some. 🙂
I like Mini Coopers, too! I want a little yellow one with black stripes!
DonnaN says
1.Are you into typography, and do you have a favorite font? I work for an online stationery company, so I deal with typography everyday….most are the traditional classic Roman and fancy script fonts, but I’m also a foreign text specialst, so my favorite NON-English typestyle is MS Mincho, which is a Japanese type.
2.Have you ever been to a drive-in movie theater? Unfortunately, they are NOT too prevalent anymore here in the Eastern U.S. The last local drive in theater was torn down in the early 80’s, but I remember by parents taking me to see Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Cinderella there in the late 70’s. The routine was I’d get my bath, then get in my jammies and we’d go to the movies. I would inevitably fall asleep in the backseat, on our way home.
3.If you won the lottery this week (say $30 million), what are the first few things you’d do? First things would be to book the next flight to Maui and purchase a house. Then I would pay off my parent’s mortgage and bills, pay for both nephew’s college cost and then CHILLAX for the rest of my life. Oh, and I’d buy some Le Mer cream and ALL of the BURBERRY makeup collection too……LOL
It’s been too hot here this weekend to venture out…..I chilled out and took some catnaps this weekend. I’m watching “2012” tonight on t.v……nothing like a mega-DISASTER movie on a summer night!
Karen says
Hi DonnaN,
What are your thoughts on my arch nemesis, Comic Sans?
Cindy (Prime Beauty) says
yes, I’ve been to lots of drive-in movies. When I was little the parents would take us kids in our jammies and we would fall asleep in the back of the station wagon. I grew up in so. Cal, so there wass usually a playground in front of the movie screen to play in before the movie and at intermission.
The last drive in movie I was supposed to go was Maghogny–with Diana Ross with a BF in high school but my mom wouldn’t let me go. I have still NEVER seen that movie! sigh
.-= Cindy (Prime Beauty)’s last blog post… Weekend Beauty Roundup 7-18-10 =-.
Karen says
I haven’t either! I’ve heard it’s great though!
I can’t even remember the last movie I watched… it might’ve been Rambo with my childhood buddy’s family.
Steph B says
Since my current contract ends in September, winning $30M right now would be wonderful. I’d pay off my student loan, send my folks and brother & sister-in-law on fab vacations and pay off their mortgages. Then I’d probably get a condo here (DC) and S. Fl (where the nepew is) and find a part time job to stay productive and volunteer at things that matter to me the other half.
OK- frivoulous question. I remember you saying you wax your own legs. What kind of wax do you use? Do you have one of those electric warmers that keep it at the right temp? I’m thinking of starting to do this since hair grows so patchy I’d like to be able to touch up more frequently.
Karen says
Ooh! I use Parissa Warm Wax. No need for the warmer thingy because you nuke it in the microwave:
http://parissa.com/catalog/product/studio-warm-wax
You might want to start off with their Sugar Wax, though, because you can wash it off with water:
http://parissa.com/catalog/product/chamomile-body-sugar
This one’s excellent for beginners!
Steph B says
Thanks. Will check it out. I’ve tried home sugar kits before and didn’t think much of them evn though I prefer sugaring in a salon to waxing.
Do you have to keep running back to the microwave?
Karen says
In the beginning it took me longer, so I’d have to throw the jar in the microwave again maybe once or twice. Now I can just warm it up once and get it done in a jiffy.
If you run out of the waxing cloths that come with the kit, you can always buy extras at Sally Beauty. That’s what I usually do. I prefer the non-muslin ones because they seem to grab onto the wax more efficiently and are less messy (no strands):
http://www.sallybeauty.com/wax-strips/JLBERE02,default,pd.html?cgid=Skin05-04
Kayann says
Hmmm… If I won the lotto I would most def pay off all of my bills!! Then put some in hedge funds, put some away for my daughter and sister, send my mom to the Philippines, and maybe upgrade my wardrobe…. And maybe the hubby’s, if he’s nice! 🙂
Karen says
Ha ha, I’d hire a stylist for El Hub. He doesn’t listen to me when it comes to clothes. 🙁
Nina says
I hear ya! The Hubs’ work environment is pretty casual so he has a uniform of sorts – gap jeans and a colored t either from Target or Gap. The only thing that changes are his shoes (he is a bit of a shoe addict like me) and the color of his t. 😀
Karen says
You’re lucky he’s at least into shoes, LOL! El Hub is an anti-clothes horse. I love the boy, but honestly, it’s a miracle he wears clothes from this decade. He hates going shopping, but he’s soooo picky about everything, which makes it impossible to buy stuff for him. I’ve pretty much given up.
dani@callitbeauty says
hey ladies! has anyone tried the body shop’s new delipscious tinted lip balms? are they any good?
also, chanel vitalumiere is my HG foundation but the price is pretty steep. anyone have any recommendations for cheaper foundations for dry skin?
hope everyone’s having a good day 🙂

Hi Dani,
I have combo dry/oily skin and like Laura Mercier Oil Free.
I’d also love to hear about other’s people’s recs though!
Iben says
Hi everyone!
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Revlon PhotoReady Translucent Finisher – I’m on a budget and on the look out for a translucent powder??
Amber says
Iben, I haven’t tried that powder but I have used Sonia Kashuk’s loose powder in translucent and it is pretty good.
.-= Amber’s last blog post… Dragon boats =-.
Nina says
I have two Photoready products – the liquid fondation and the powder. They are both nice and work pretty well. Just remember to use a primer if you are prone to the oilies.
I skipped the highlighting powder (is this the translucent powder youre referring to? bec if it is its meant to highlight and not finish) because it got meh reviews and I really love my MSFs for highlighting…
Kate & Zena says
I’m always interested in finding cursive fonts. I’m determined to find one that looks like mine.
Can I just say I wish the humidity would go elsewhere? I love the 80s, but it’s unbearably humid where I live right now! It’s like walking through fly paper. Zena is pissed, to say the least, at me because she hasn’t gone on a walk for TWO days. It’s just too humid! I have a smattering of fresh bruises up and down my legs and arms from her body slamming into me. I think my dog needs therapy. It hurts to have 35 pounds of dog ramming into your arms and legs!
Karen says
I think hot weather makes pets nuts! Tabs is currently acting out BIG TIME.
Kate & Zena says
Woah, a double post. I hate it when I do that.
Oh yea, Zena LOVES heat. Hates the cold, loves the heat. She’ll sun for hours unless it’s really humid as it is now. She’ll go out for a few minutes, slam on the door to come back in, body slam into my leg because she wants to go back out, back in, back out all day long. I have a nice little bruise on the wrist where the bone is in the shape of her toenails with a nice slash through it!
Erin says
1. I was a font nerd, at one point. But since I’ve been home with the tot, I’m embarrassed to admit it’s been years since I’ve opened Word. I’ll always love Helvetica (I get to see it every day on the NYC subway), and I used to use Copperplate Gothic in design school.
2. Haven’t been to a drive-in in years, but my very first movie, aged 3, was Star Wars, at a drive-in! I fell asleep sometime around “A long time ago…”
3. Won lottery? Pay off student loans. Buy Hermes Kelly bag, entire Edward Bess collection, Canon 50D Mark II, trip to Japan. Help sister-in-law with her organization (Urban Tails). Buy mom condo in Hawaii. Buy me condo in Hawaii. Ride Orient Express. And maybe get some Louboutains and a fancy dinner to wear them to!
Karen says
Erin! Copperplate Gothic is one of my faves too!
Jules says
Hey Karen!
I just recently came across your blog and I gotta say, I’M HOOKED! I’ve been reading through your posts and I can’t wait to try out, ahm… everything?!
What I would do with $30 million? I think I’d travel a bit more, but besides that I would go on with my life as usual… but without that heart-wrenching, bill-paying math at the end of every month! Oh, and I would buy the entire MAC store… can’t get better than that.
In fact, I have a MAC question for you, from one addict to another. It’s a tough one: which MAC matte eyeshadows do you recommend? I know all of them are great, but which ones are the “you-will-not-be-able-to-live-without-this†type (as if I could live without any of them)?
Thanks so much, keep rocking! 🙂
Karen says
Hey Jules!
It’s nice to meet you. So glad you like the site!
As for MAC matte can’t-live-withouts, I mine are Soft Brown, Brownscript, Copperplate and Bamboo.
What are your fave MAC shadows? 🙂
Lisa says
Hi Karen! These are fun questions, so I’ll chime in:
1. I don’t know much about it. I guess Helvetica is the classic though!
2. Yes, drive-ins are awesome! The one in my hometown closed down though 🙁
3. So many things! I would buy my own home, buy my boyfriend his dream bike ($5000 racing bike, yikes!), pay off my student loans, and then just relax and not worry about money for a while! I would still finish grad school though 🙂
Hope next week goes well for you!
Karen says
Hi Lisa,
If I was in school I’d probably finish too. What are you studying?
BrooklynShoeBabe says
Never been to a drive in but it sounds like it would be fun.
If I won $30 million in lottery, I would pay off all my debt; put aside $2 million for my girls’ college tuition, pay off all my family’s debt; donate money to my favorite charities (American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, Spence Chapin adoption agency, Brooklyn Public Library, ASPCA, Humane Society, Democratic Party and Planned Parenthood); give my closest homies $1 million each; buy a modest house where I’d have my own room that I’d turn into a walk in closet/shoe display/Mommy only lounge; and finally go on a shoe shopping spree at DSW. (This cracks my husband up. He says if I had that much money, I could just buy DSW.)
This weekend I saw two movies in the theater and as a working mom that was a miracle. I probably won’t go to the movies again for another 7 or 8 months. lol. Eclipse is a good movie–see it with your girlfriends. Inception is good too, see it with your man. 🙂
.-= BrooklynShoeBabe’s last blog post… Nails and Stains =-.
Karen says
Hi BrooklyShoeBabe,
Ditto on the shoe room. That is my dream!
I liked Inception a lot but felt it was about 30 minutes too long. I thought it was really innovative and interesting!
snoopysteph says
Winning the lottery would be awesome! Although 30 million would come with a lot of responsibility!
Today I finally purged my household of stuff that’s been cluttering up the place and set up my “craft area,” both of which were long overdue! I’m excited to unload stuff that has just been taking up space and to have created a space where I can go to unwind & relax while working on my crafts (I crochet, sew, scrapbook & embroider). It was quite a workout too – I live on the 3rd floor of my building and I think I walked up and down the stairs 900 times or so!
Right now the hubby and I are plowing through an Avatar marathon before we call it a night! I’m actually looking forward to going to work tomorrow – only because I know my UD Naked palette arrived yesterday and it’s sitting on my desk. 🙂
Karen says
Congrats on cleaning up your craft space. I bet it felt liberating to clear out all the extra stuff! Is it all nice and pretty and relaxing now?
Have fun watching Avatar. I saw it twice (once in the theater and once at home) and liked it both times!
As for the Naked Palette, I wore it last night to dinner… I can’t get enough of it. You’ll love it!
Speaking of work, how are things going? Have you guys starting rebuilding the front of the office?

I’m thinking of returning my Naked palette. I love half of it, but half of the shades have way too much fallout. Glitter all around my eyes and cheeks doesn’t say “naked” to me. I may just pick up a single of Toasted which I love and don’t have anything like.
For those thinking of getting a NYX dupe instead, Ulta is having a sale on NYX.

Sorry to hear it didn’t work out for you (Toasted is a great color, btw).
Thanks for the heads up on the NYX sale!

I love typography, my favorite is probably Century Gothic ! and I’ve been to several drive in movies, the ones I remember seeing is spider man 3, twilight, and back to the future. some weren’t all “drive in” more like outdoor movies tho, people could still drive in with their cars
annd if I had won 30 mil today….the first thing I would do is to pay all of my school tuition!!! and then splurge at sephora…then I would donate some to charities and save the rest for all kinds of other stuff I wanna do in the future 🙂

Hi Karen!
I’ve having my picture professionally taken next week. Normally I do a really simple makeup look and I was wondering if you had any tips for makeup that looks good on camera?
Thanks!

If I won the lottery I would take my dog for all of the chemo and radiation therapy he needs to get rid of his cancer. I wish I had the money to do it now, but it really isn’t feasible. Secondly, I would get a bigger condo (with a fabulous view) with 3 bedrooms and an adjacent one for my mom. One of the bedrooms I would turn into a closet for all of my shoes, purses and clothes. If not a condo, a house with a part-time gardener/caretaker so my mom wouldn’t have to worry about maintenance. I would travel and do lots of shopping. However, I would set up my investments to guarantee I would have an income to allow me to live comfortably for the rest of my life. I would also buy a property in the Philippines for my family to build a new family home. My grandparents home is sinking and gets flooded at least once a year due to monsoons. I’d like to get them something on higher ground and less headache 🙂
I’m not into typography but I do like frilly scripts. I like the romantic feel they have.
I did go to a drive-in movie theater when I was about 8 years old. It’s way out of the city though, close to farms and such. Although recently we had our community police crew showed a movie in the park in front of my building. I went with my mom, my dog and my neighbors family.

Hi Christy,
I’m sorry to hear about your dog. How is he doing right now?
Vet says
1. Are you into typography, and do you have a favorite font?
I like all kinds of funky fonts, right now my favorite is “You’re driving me nuts”
2. Have you ever been to a drive-in movie theater?
yes, back in the 80’s when my hometown used to have one. =/ I miss it.
3. If you won the lottery this week (say $30 million), what are the first few things you’d do?
first I would scream for like an hour or so…then I would pay of my student loans and the rest to the bank before I go shopping crazy
Karen says
Hi Vet,
I miss the one from my hometown too. Did you grow up in the suburbs?
Vet says
Yup in Newark, I’m in Fremont now.
