Trains, planes, automobiles? Rowboats, rickshaws, dogsleds, airport terminals? The bathroom at da cloob?
Where’s the strangest place you’ve ever applied your makeup?
Most of my doozies involve travel or deadlines. Or travel and frenetic rushing.
One time I applied NARS Amour blush in a bathroom on a ferryboat crossing the San Francisco Bay…which you might think could be kind of cool and poetic (“She braved the sea aboard a great ship to meet her love, sweeping NARS Amour across her cheeks as waves lapped against the hull…”), except that it wasn’t.
It actually really sucked. It was like trying to apply blush in a sardine can being shaken by a giant… Haha! I barely had enough room to raise my arm high enough to reach my face, and it was also dark in there, so I couldn’t see sh*t!
Oh, the boat was also rocking back and forth, too, which made me seasick.
And then there’s BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit, the Bay Area’s subway system). Yes, I was one of those women applying her makeup at the crack of dawn on the train. And my car (as a passenger, I might add). And various airport restrooms (usually difficult because the lighting often sucks).
I can’t be the only one with stories like these (please tell me I’m not). Where’s the strangest place you’ve ever applied your makeup?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Happy 4th of July! What are you up to today?
Do you have the day off from work? Are there any cool fireworks displays in your area? El Hub always talks about popping firecrackers when he was growing up in Hawaii. Everything was legal there back then, even firecrackers and bottle rockets. Firecrackers are banned here, but there are some big fireworks displays, like a big one in San Rafael at the Marin County Fair. I really want to bring my camera and try my luck at fireworks photography.
Things are a little chill here today at Tabs the Cat Industries, LLC. Tabs is between modeling jobs, so he gave me the afternoon off.
After playing with makeup for a spell, I think I’ll sneak out to the pool.
Whatever you’re up to, have a great day, and remember that…
P.S. EDIT: Okay, I’ve been reading your comments, and uh…!? I thought my ferry one was weird, but apparently not. 🙂 Rachel, gurl, yours made me laugh out loud!

Happy 4th to Team Musical! ME-OOOOOW
Your snack sounds delish, btw. I have a watermelon here waiting to be nommed om. I was thinking of using some chunks to flavor my water. Have you tried that? It’s so good.
Nix says
Wait.. What!!?!? How do you flavor water with watermelon???? Please let me know! Getting tired of the same-olp-same with the lemon slices…

A horse barn, in the “tack stall” which is just a normal stall with a few saddle racks, a clothing rack, a mirror hung on the wall, and bales of hay stacked up.
Oh I’ve also done it in the car as a passenger, the office of my insurance agent (before a speech I had to give in the office), sitting on the floor next to my locker in high school, and numerous strange restrooms.
Agata says
I think the weirdest place was a restroom on a plane (but it was more retouching than actual applying make up).
Happy 4th of July! I am working, unfortunately and I am really bored. Cannot wait to get off work and have some BBQ with the hubby and maybe go for a walk.

Happy 4th of July to Karen and Tabs!!! (And El Hub)
I haven’t really put makeup on in a weird place. The strangest is in a moving vehicle. Of course, not when I’m the driver. But I have put on eyeliner while going over train tracks, and I totally didn’t poke my eye out.
I’m a daredevil!

Ooh ooh, I got this! In the back of a hearse, on the way to a gothic-Victorian picnic at a goth convention at Pittock Mansion in Portland Oregon. And I looked faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabulous when I was done, too.
Do I get some kind of award??? 😛

When I was high school, I was obsessed with touching up my nails. I used to do my nails in the hallways during my spare break when I had no classes. I wasn’t too studious back then. :p
Cheers and you have a great 4th of July and a great weekend!

I apply it in many, many places….some of the unusual places are my classroom(in the breaks..lol..only a few times during the classes when it was all noisy), in the boy’s bathroom(lol), on the street, in the bus, in the train, hmmm idk

The weirdest place I ever applied make-up had to be a nursing home – of which I was a resident!
When I was 36, a major illness (looong story) left me with the use of only my right side, and landed me in a nursing home for a few months.
At first, I didn’t bother with makeup, but I couldn’t be expected to go bare-faced *forever,* could I?
So I asked my mother to bring my makeup to me, and she did.
This was in my pre-addict days, so transporting my makeup required only a smallish tacklebox-type container, as opposed to the large U-Haul it would probably take to do the job now.
Every morning, I’d put my makeup on with one hand, unable to see much on the left side, and every few minutes a therapist would stick her head in the door and say, “Are you finished yet?”
If the answer was “no” too many times, she’d say, “That’s enough – you look fine; come on!”
Sometimes I was finished, often I wasn’t.
But I still got hit on by various males, employees and otherwise, so I guess I did look okay.

In the airplane restroom, during turbulence! (it’s just my luck that those seat belt signs always tend to flash on when I’m alrwady in the restroom). Also, the airport bathroom, where I’ve completely re-applied it. In the car, at a picnic (touch ups)…

I think the only weird place I ever applied makeup was in a yurt in Inner Mongolia! I wouldn’t have bothered at all, but I had a huge pimple so I had to get some cover-up on it to feel halfway human.

Kindergarten bathroom. while the kids were at recess-didn’t want to be walked in on! and leaning over to see in the kid’s height placed mirror.

Okay, since this is true confessions time, here goes…..
There may have been a situation a few years ago when I, um, spent the night elsewhere unexpectedly and didn’t have makeup with me, and had to pick my mother up the next morning at the bus stop and didn’t want to let on in any way that I hadn’t been home at night, so I rushed into the drugstore by the bus stop to pick up some makeup and applied it in the car while I waited at the bus stop.
Yeah, classy, huh?

would you believe on the back of my horse while he was moving? I was about to go on for my event at a rodeo and I had aI looked cray cray and I had to apply liquid eyeliner, mascara, and blush while I made my way from my trailer to the arena. So not easy!

My college alma mater puts on a marching festival for all the high schools in the area and the college performs last. When I was in the band, it was a standing tradition to go early with my friends and watch all the high schools while applying makeup in the stands. We’d take over a row of seats and just spread things out so we wouldn’t miss any bands by having to go to the bathroom to do ourselves up.

Happy 4 th of july… 🙂 and I applied once on my hands to cover a mark… well it is intense… 😛

I was just at Brann’s with my mom the other day, and I had done a minimal makeup look on the eyes, and after out lunch before we hit the mall I just HAD to apply some eye make up. The (young) guy who waited on us was really freaked out by my huge makeup bad all willy-nilly on the table and me all swiping my eyes with my go to colors. Pretty sure I scared the you-know-what outta that boy,, heh heh
Other than that.. the only other strange places I apply after my morning application is ….. well.. any darn place I can!
Alyza says
In the car on a 4 and 1/2 hour roadtrip for a college visit.
We left wayyy too early in the morning to do my makeup at home, so I took a bag with me and did it about 30 minutes before we arrived.
The only downside was that my eyeliner was a little shaky.
Allison says
I put makeup on all the time on the bus when I lived in S. Korea. I would wait for a red light and then frantically try to put it on.
