Although there probably wouldn’t be a wide range of colors for tan gals like me, I have a soft spot for ’40s style makeup and beauty. The red lips, waved hair and wee bit o’ liner along the upper lash line — so classically simple yet glam at the same time.
How about you? What’s your favorite decade or era of makeup and beauty?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF!

I would say I’m in the same boat as you for this, Karen! I’ve fallen hard for MAC Russian Red so I’ve been playing around with the red lips and black liner look 🙂 So much fun!
Unfortunately, I’m in a less-than-glam state in my sweats since I had an early Mammalian Physiology lecture and I’m waiting for my O Chem Lab lecture. XD Ah well! Here’s to a new school year! 😀

While I’m not keen on drawn brows, I’m partial to 30’s makeup. The rosebud mouth, heavy lids, and half moon manicures are so swoon-worthy.
Barbara says
40’s old Hollywood glam for me too. Just beautiful!
Melissa says
Definitely 1940s or 50s. Love the dark lip and winged eyeliner!

60’s!
Kim says
I’m 100% with you on the 40s. Very glamorous. Which is odd because I’m not at all fussy about my everyday looks, but I think it would be fantastic to have someone do a 40s Hollywood makeover for me (for a special event, not to run to the grocery store). 🙂
Btw, I loved your ninja smiley from yesterday. Today’s cute little TGIF reminded me. 🙂
Rachael says
70s! Not a lot of makeup and wavy hair that it does all on its own.

Def the ’50 pin-up girl look. shows how confident girls were with those bold red lips

I love the clothes from the regency era (Pride & Prejudice). It was also the time when the natural look became fashionable which meant the death of white face paint laced with lead.
Sofia says
Love the black eyeliner from the 60’s.
NeenaJ says
I’ve gotta go 90’s – because I rock the brown-red lipstick! (So do you, Karen!)

Oh goodness, I love that picture! Same here, I love the 40s and the 50s as well. Cannot get enough winged eyeliner or red, red lips. Or victory rolls. I’ve been very happy ever since I made A conscious decision to dress all pin-up like. 🙂
Stèphanie says
I can’t really tell.. just because I think every decade has their own ups and down. Moon manicures in the mid 30s, red lips in the 40s, classic look of the 50s, twiggys lashes in the 60s, a bronze tan in the 70s, bright eyeshadow in the 80s..
Jen says
Soft and subdued looks from the 50s. Think Jackie Kennedy and a soft (not sultry) Marilyn. Not heavy on the eyeshadow, with some thin liner on the upper lash line only.
I would also have to add the 60s, but not the mod 60s. I love the looks in Mad Men.
Virginia says
40’s, 50’s & 60’s for make up. 50’s & 60’s for shoes & love the 60’s for clothes!
Stef Smith says
The 70’s all the way! A natural look for day, and disco diva for night! But I’m all about the 70’s, the music, the fashion, men in super short shorts! Best. Era. EVER!!!
JoJo says
The 50’s.. Marilyn Monroe ERA…lol

The 80’s, just because it’s so ridiculous. And who doesn’t like neon shadows?

70s definitely. Thick, natural brows. Tan, healthy skin and long, loose hair. LOVE.

The 1920’s – I loooooove the flapper look. The hats, the makeup, the clothes, the shoes I love it all!

My infatuation with swing jazz might be part of it, but I’m really digging ’20’s makeup right now – dark eyes and lips.
Daca says
I vote for 60s. Clothes and makeup was just perfect.
Maribeth says
I have to say the 40’s- that’s my mom’s generation and when I see old pics if her and my Aunts they all looked like babes, great dresses, shoes and their hair and makeup are awesome. They look effortless chic. They were all under rationing too b/o WWII but they knew how to make the best of it!
Nanda devi says
20’s. I like the strong, dark lips.
Think Clara Bow. It’s a shame I don’t have dark hair myself, so I could cut it in a bob and look that wild and beautiful.
A bob would look horrible on me too, when I think of it.
Sigh.
Schelli says
I love the bright colourful looks of the 80’s. I also really love the 1920’s flapper theatrical and almost “doll-like” looks.
