Mine’s — don’t laugh — waxing my ‘stash.
Isn’t there something oddly satisfying about efficient hair removal? Maybe it’s my inner lab technician, but I just love the process. Love warming the wax in the microwave, love applying it and, most of all, love ripping it off!
BAM! — fuzz-free and smoooove.
It’s one of those little things that I’ve always liked to do myself. I also like knowing that I’m saving money, gas and time. My nearest salon isn’t expensive or far away, but it still takes time to get there, and that $8 lip wax goes up with the tip.
Do you have a favorite at-home beauty ritual? Is it deep conditioning your hair, exfoliating your heels on the back porch, or is it your weekly mani/pedi? Don’t be shy! 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Ladies, do you have any movie suggestions for me? I’m thinking about catching a flick tonight. Should I see Zombieland, Couples Retreat or something else?
Anna says
There is a deep satifaction in hair removal isnt there…sits next to squeezing a big fat jucy zit/spot !
I love……plucking my ‘stash with my good old tweezermans sitting on the bathroom sink !
shivotra says
definitely doing my weekly face mask courtesy of lush. 🙂 soo relaxing, and i love the results.
Tiffany says
Does applying makeup count? If not, then exfoliating would be my fave!
We are going to see couples retreat tonight! zombieland was second on our list of choices – we will probably see it next week!
Redhead says
My lang arts teacher recommended Zombieland – she said it was kinda gutsy gorey in the beginning, but then it got SUPER cheesy funny!
Exfoliating is my fave. I can scrub my face with jagged beads and look beautiful! ;D
Kelly says
For me it’s plucking my brows. I get huge satisfaction removing those hairs one by one.
I really want to see Zombieland and might this weekend, it looks hilarious!

I love using my Clarisonic. It cleans my skin really well. I got it 3 weeks ago and it’s so fun.
As far as a movie, I’d say go see Whip It! with Drew Barrymore. As a roller derby player myself, it’s a great movie with a great cast. If you’re not a Drew Barrymore fan, Zombieland was very gross (the zombies were bleeding and pussing from their mouth) but it was actually pretty entertaining. Couples Retreat looks cute but probably not worth the ever increasing price of a movie ticket. Have a great weekend and enjoy the movie you choose! 🙂

My fave is doing a face mask while I give myself a mani/pedi. It is just so relaxing and I love the squeeky clean feeling and glow that my skin has after taking off the mask. =)

I heard Paranormal Activity is really scary, but really good so if it’s playing in your area you should check it out! 🙂

Ummm does makeup application count? I love that!
Jenn says
Weekly exfoliation, followed up by a mask. 😛
Hafsa says
Although i’m pretty lazy when it comes to this, doing a good face mask, or facial spa-thingy, is pretty satisfying. I wouldn’t say its my fav, but I love getting the instant results, plus you feel good about yourself and taking care of your skin 🙂
For movies, I want to see Paranormal Activity? Have you seen it? Apparently it got realllllly good reviews, and its kinda like Ghost Hunters, if you’ve ever seen the show. I heard its very scary, so if you like to be scared, check it out!

I like tweezing or doing a mask. Masks are hands-down my favorite thing to do, since they’re so relaxing and usually help to clear up my skin. Btw, what do you use for eyebrow waxing? I really want to try waxing.
Both Zombieland and Whip It have great reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but I probably would see Whip It. I haven’t seen either so I can’t comment on the content though! The September Issue has been on my list forever and I really want to see it before it’s out of theatres though.
Katherine says
I second the waxing. There is something about ripping it out by the root that is extremely satisfying. Also, weekly Biore pore strips on my nose. Ripping those suckers out, at least the ones that do come out, is also a held weekly ritual.

shaving my legs and doing a thermal mask while soaking in a steaming hot bath. The Invention of Lying seems like a good movie but Whip it Looks quite good too.

Painting my fingernails is my favorite beauty ritual. It makes me feel good even when I’m ill like today. I think my allergies are masquerading as a cold.

LOL – I love your frankness! Taking care of the ‘stache is a big one for me, too. Also plucking the brows, too. One other thing is doing the overnight teeth whitening thing, especially the day before a party or other event where you know there will be lots of picture taking!

I love doing face masks or trying new ones. I can find many ones from Korea here in Thailand. There are supposed to be great quality.

A 30 minute paper mask for added hydration! My skin just drinks these up. Other times it’s a 10-15 minute clay mask. Combination skin is so hard demanding sometimes!

my favorite ritual is plucking my eyebrows and exfoliating!

i love taking baths when i have time. i moved into a new house in july and i’ve only had a bath twice, but it was amazingly relaxing (i used a LUSH bathbomb, of course!) hopefully i find a free couple of hours someday soon 😉

I love getting rid of body hair! There’s nothing better than going from stubbly/hairy to smoooooove. Also right up there: playing with/applying make-up, painting my nails and dying my hair. As someone who has been dying my hair up to once a month (mostly less) for the past 7 or more years, there is nothing more fun. At this point I’m mostly lazy and trying to grow in healthy hair so I went back to my natural color.

I pretty much enjoy all of them (except dyeing my hair) but I think my favorite would be a DIY manicure. I love painting my nails. I also love to do multiple treatments (hair, face, nails, etc.) at a time and dedicating a whole day to pampering, but those days are few and far between.
Karen says
Hi Sole,
Those are few and far between for me too. I gotta schedule one in ASAP!!
How’s your weekend going so far? Doing anything fun?
sylvie says
I take a bath every Saturday night and I do a face exfoliation and a face mask and at the same time do a hair mask. Sometimes I feel soak so long in the tub that when I get up I feel dizzy but it’s all worth it.
Karen says
Hi Sylvie,
That sounds so relaxing. I can’t wait until I get the chance to really clean my bathroom so I can take a long soak.
Have a good weekend.
Ditte says
Definitely applying make-up 🙂
Shells says
Zombieland! Must watch that on the big screen!!
At home beauty ritual? Well, cleaning/sanitizing my makeup brushes.

My favorite at-home beauty ritual is definitely doing my nails. I try to take out 1-2 hours every Sunday evening to do my tips and toes, and I love blinging out my fingernails with rhinestones and glitter. It also makes me happy throughout the week to just look at them. =)

i love painting my fingernails and toenails. makes me feel so much more polished when they are freshly painted – something i really should do in the next day or so, haha. and using st ives apricot scrub on my face makes it feel so much cleaner; i do that 2 or 3 times a week in the shower.
i saw zombieland and it was GREAT! the opening credits have some gore but then after it’s not bad at all, and i’m a total wimp. totally recommend it for tonight! 🙂

I’m definitely a fan of using masks for waay longer than they should be used…oh and putting on ridiculous amounts of lotion and then something to cover yourself (like socks w/ lots of lotion on your feet) so you feel extra moisturized.
Also, Karen…what do you use to wax your fem-stache? I really don’t want to pay someone else to do it…because I’m stingy…so I was wondering what brand you use.

Exfoliation for sure! I love that gritty scratchy feeling and seeing all that dirt and dead cells rinse away at my feet. I like combing a real crusty loofa and some granules and then go to town. For some reason it feels so invigorating, ya know? Like that feeling right after you wax of the hair but for an extended time. 😛

by far, my fav is putting nail polish!!! i find it so relaxing, i love the precision involved and the process of choosing just the right shade to match my outfit or mood! 😀
also exfoliating gives me a lot of satisfaction… come to think of it, i think i’ll go and spend some time on myself!

Definitely threading my brows & upper lip. I prefer it over tweezing because it can remove multiple hairs at once & it’s not as painful as tweezing.
I love it! I get a sense of accomplishment after I’m done. haha.
=]
Karen says
Hi Nicole,
You’re not the only one!
I haven’t tried threading. Is it hard?
k says
sitting on the sink and tweezing mt ‘tash while the kids bang on the door :p
and also the occasional asprin+honey mask!
Abby says
I love painting my nails too! (just not my toenails…dang I never seem to get them right and I can barely see what I am doing…) I also love shaving my legs, dyeing my hair with Clairol Natural Instincts, and doing a face mask.
Hmmmm….OK Karen, you have me curious about self-waxing of the ‘stash. I have some Nad’s in my beauty closet and I think I might hafta bust that out and try it. My upper lip is sorta She-Wolf Aaaoooooooooo! (lollll). I will let you know how it goes!
Nicole says
Hey Ms. Karen!
Threading isnt hard at all. It takes some practicing to get used to it. But I seriously love it because it removes multiple hairs at once. It still hurts, but I think it hurts less than tweezing.
I learned from Bubbi on Youtube. Here’s the vid;
