I rolled up to Sephora about a month ago and asked one of the sales associates if she could help me find the best dang under-eye concealer in the universe.
(That’s how I put it too. “…best dang under-eye concealer in the universe.”)
Then I regaled her with my recent woes related to my under-eye area (you know about all this), and she directed me to a few things I’d unfortunately tried before, like Bobbi Brown’s Peach Corrector, which I’ve liked, but they just haven’t been working well for me lately, on account of the whole dry skin situation.
Then she suggested Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Concealer ($29).
It’s kind of neat. She said it was full coverage, and it has a silicone tip applicator I’ve never seen on a concealer before, so I brought it home and gave it a try.
Well, I like that it’s easy to blend, but I’m not so sure about the full coverage part, because I think I still look very tired.
I dunno… It might be the color I picked, 345 Dark Beige, which has a lot of yellow. I usually wear peachier toned concealers because they cancel out more of the darkness in the inner corners of my eyes, but I wanted to try something new.
Unfortunately, this one doesn’t really seem to be doing a lot for me.
The quest continues, le sigh…
How about you? What’s something you recently asked a makeup artist or sales associate about?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF!

Not a concealer but have you tried this babe?

I slap it under my eyes every morning and bam! It looks like I had 2 or 3 extra hours of sleep. The shade I wear is light boost, I am very pale. Last year when I was about getting back to work after maternity leave I was super sleep deprived. To say I looked exhuasted would be a huge understatement. I went to MAC and it was “prescribed” to me by one of their MA. Major hit, have repurchased FOUR times.

I agree about MAC’s Prep and Prime Highlighter. There are some days when I don’t bother with concealer because this bad boy works so well. This is HANDS DOWN the one concealer product I ALWAYS go back to. I like the BB Corrector but after a while it stopped working. Sometimes the MAC can be a little dry so I make sure to use eye cream.
The LA Lady says
I’ve been using Bare Minerals Stroke of Light Under eye brightener. Maybe I just use a lot, but it covers my dark circles like WHOA. I use the lightest shade which is a pretty pink for my fair skin but it does come in four shades.
Even though it’s not a heavy-duty concealer, I like that it’s not chalky and drying.
I keep asking the Sephora folks, “I need an eye product for my 31 year old eyes that DOES NOT clog my pores and has some preventative benefits.” Most eye creams are super heavy. And if they’re light, they don’t really do anything other than moisturize. I think I’ve purchased eight different products and nothing has been quite right 🙁

Karen I have the same problem as you, dark circles since I was a baby and now I’m starting to get dryer skin. I have used Amazing Concealer and it works very well. I highly recommend it, it’s very thick, but a little goes a long way and it really covers if you blend it correctly. It’s really a savior for undereye circles.
Kiss & Make-up says
You know what, Karen, I actually stopped using undereye concealer all together and I just look so much better for it! Or at least I like to think that I do 😉 But seriously, my concealers kept creasing on me and created all these fine lines under my eyes that weren’t even there when my skin was bare! So I was like, eff that shizzle. I notice that without concealer and just a bit of highlighter my undereye area looks smoother and a lot fresher.

Most recently I chatted about Hourglass faves, sighed over the new Kat Von D studded lipsticks not being out, and discussed our similar olive skin. I rarely if ever go in to a beauty department/store without having a specific list in mind. Too much danger for the wallet!
Seriously girl….try some Tarte Creaseless Concealer. very brightening, very nice coverage 🙂

None of my concealers are working for me right now either. I have had good luck with touche eclat, bobbi brown corrector and concealer, mac select coverup, and benefit’s creamy salmon one before, none of them are working for me. So I’m going pretty natural right now, which is depressing.
Bella says
Have you tried Laura Mercier’s Secret Concealer? Very full coverage, moisturising and a new extended shade range.
This afternoon I had a sales associate try out 4 shades of powder foundation on my jawline and then wait while I went to check in natural light LOL. We found a great match and I thanked her profusely though ;). And then I bought the eyeliner she was wearing to boot. She knows I’m a victim like that.

I’ve really been loving It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye. I just bought my second tube of it. The first one has lasted me a year!
Sarah Lowes says
Try Keromask. It covers ANYTHING. You dab on a tiny amount with your ring finger and wait a approx 30 secs for it to bond with your skin. I then use a mineral foundation and – voila! Fabulousness!

Karen, I switch between these two Tarte concealers which I love!

I just asked a sales associate a question yesterday in The Body Shop on how to apply the Shimmering Bronze Dry Oil.
Have a great weekend!

I’ve been using Benefit’s Boi-ing concealer (#2) and it’s amazing stuff. Very much like an eraser. I believe there are 4 shades.

Karen, just like Jordan above, I highly recommend IT’s Bye Bye Undereye. I actually bought this from Ulta in a neat tube that has Bye Bye on one end and an eye brightener on the other (I figured it would be a good why to try both products at once!). The brightener is great on low-makeup/casual days, and Bye Bye really does help erase my sad, blue undereye circles. It blends easily with fingers or brush. Set with powder, it’ll last most/all day.

I recently asked the Chanel SA which of the new eyeshadow quads she’d recommend for me. She suggested Tisse Vendome and Tisse Mademoiselle, which were the same quads I had my eye on anyway! Normally, though, I don’t tend to ask SAs for much advice as I find that sometimes their advice for colors or formulas don’t tend to work well on me. (I trusted this Chanel SA in particular as I’ve bought from her for awhile now.)

I am currently using the NYX Dark Circle Concealer in Medium and it works well for me. I have Medium Yellow Filipina skin. I think it will work for you too! 🙂
Rachel says
Did the sales associate show you the Makeup Forever Full Coverage concealer? I think it’s different than the one you bought, and I’ve been wanting to try it myself. Otherwise does Kat Von D have a concealer? I’ve heard good stuff about her line, and that it’s full coverage, none of that sheer bullcrap!
JWinn says
Karen – I’ve tried many high end undereye concealers (MAC, MUFE, Tarte, Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, Cle de Peau, Estée Lauder), but the best one so far has been Chanel Correcteur Perfection concealer. I’m a #30. I use it with a dab of MAC Strobe cream underneath, and it barely cakes after 8-10 hours. I refresh it with a dab of Strobe cream, and it’s fine afterwards. Try this one, and maybe you will end your search 🙂 PS U remind me of an Asian Carrie Underwood!

Oh girlfriend, that Sephora saleslady needs a talkin to. It’s not a mediocre concealer but definitely sheer and quite possibly the worst packaging ever conceived. You twist it up to get the amount you need, and over the course of the next few hours while the tube sits unattended it slooooowly oozes out and crusts up all over the place. It’ll make you pine for your pro longwear.
No tips on a better concealer tho, pro longwear is the only high coverage option that doesn’t crease on me.

I got some surprisingly good product recommendations from a MA at Sephora just yesterday. Some times, I find I know more about a product than they do (which is not saying much!!), but this time I was pleasantly surprised.
Erica says
I just left my local mall on my regular quest for a HG foundation and concealer. No luck, but I have loads of samples to try. None of my usual concealer tactics are working. Everything is creasing like crazy. Maybe it’s the weather and my tanned skin not cooperating with my concealers. Instead, I’m using the Mac prep and prime highlighter in Bright Forecast under foundation or tinted moisturizer. I’m not impressed with the Mac highlighter, but I bought it last year and I’m trying to use it up. I’ve decided to try the dermablend concealer next. Hang in there Karen!

Let us all know when you find the best dang undereye concealer on the planet… we’d all like to know too!
The last thing I asked for help on was a good eyelash curler. The SA pointed me to the Tarte one, which came with a bonus mini mascara too. She dun’ good, loving it so far 🙂

Hi Karen, the mufe concealer is amazing, please try color 350 (peach). You’ll be surprised!

Ditto the recommendations for It’s Bye, Bye Undereye Concealor. Have you tried that? I love their products. Ulta has a good selection.

Let me know when you find the perfect concealer, because I need one too!! I asked the MAC artist about Pattisserie lipstick. It is so pretty, but of course they were out of it!

I’ve been using the MAC highlighter stick and LOVE it!!

I am a cross dresser (sorry) and recently visited the MAC counter and was surprised to find the assistant was very helpful to provide me with both colour information and techniques on blending different eyeshadow combinations. She had no problem me asking for help and was very professional

Hi Karen!
Under eye concealer … It like the holy grail. You, me, Indiana Jones and the rest of the world of women (and sometimes men) are looking for it!!
I recently found iT cosmetics. I really like it not super full coverage but doesn’t crease. I instantly look more awake. I’m not sure about color range since I am ghostly white here in Ohio. But it may be worth a try. Before this I was wearing Tarte full coverage foundation. It was actually working pretty good. Dries to a powder and doesn’t crease. It’s full coverage and will take me a decade to finish a bottle using it like this:)
We went to Virginia Beach with my 4 yo son since he hadn’t seen the ocean yet and we spent time at a Lake in NC. It was a great vacation. Seriously we all need to take the down time!

I’ve been asking every and any makeup SA I can about any good recommendations for high end beauty products that are non comedogenic. My dermatologist recently put me on a new skin care regimen and that’s all I can wear. I’m looking for something similar to my beloved mac prolong wear concealer and also a good highlighter. I still haven’t found anything I truly like. It’s very frustrating.

I gave up on under eye concealer until I tried the concealer pots from OCC and they are my holy trails. I use the R2 and R3 shades for correcting and the Y3 for my color. Or I mix the Y3 with the R shades for customization. I have darkness in my eye area as well and using yellow tones in concealer makes it ashy and grey. I’ve tried bobbi brown correctors too and they don’t correct enough and they crease like crazy. The OCC concealers don’t and they cover everything. Usually when I blend concealer I could still see the darkness underneath but not with these. You should try them.
Shannon says
Try MAC concealer palette in medium. You and I are the same shade and the palette has worked wonders for me!
Monal says
I’m going to tag along and say It Cosmetics bye bye under eye concealer is amazing. I use the one in the pot on days I don’t feel like wearing foundation, and it works beautifully. It covers up my very prominent and stubborn dark circles while adding some glow. It really is 8-hrs of sleep in a bottle.
Resham says
Nars radiant concealer is working good for me. Also i noticed that less is more in case of under eye concealing. No matter which brand i choose… Using sparingly solves majority of the issue.
