MY BEST:
The purple and blue smokey eye I did on Friday was the most glamorous I’ve felt in weeks… I wore it to get my flu shot and then to Costco for toothpaste, ha!
MY WORST:
During and after the move. Frizzy hair and shaggy legs (can’t find my Venus razor!), the nasty breakout on my forehead, the layers of sweaty dust and grime on my skin — with the exception of Friday, it was a rough week for beauty up in here.
What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Do dish in the comments.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. OMIGOD! I just found My So-Called Life on Hulu. Remember that show? Now I know how I’m spending my evening. 🙂

Best moment was the smoky eye I did this week with the HIP shadow duo in Roaring (FOTD tmrw). The worst? I was taking a shower last night, and my little cousin knocked and asked if he could make. I said, “Sure! JUST DON’T FLUSH THE TOILET”
Yeah, he flushed anyways. The water got SUPER hot, then suddenly went SUPER cold. I ended my shower early, scowling and still covered with suds!

worst: my nails have been like, 7th-grade-painted-with-sharpies-and-chewed-up status all week…not cute.

Best: Falling in love with the purple eyeshadow from one of the pallettes for MAC’s Magic, Mirth, and Mischief. The lavender was the only shade I liked, but I wasn’t about to sacrifice $36 for that one shadow, so I walked away to sleep on it for a while. Shortly thereafter, I found a dupe for it in Victoria’s Secret Beauty! I walked home with VS Luscious and a happier wallet.
Worst: I was trying to combine my Egyptian Magic and my almost gone Vitamin E stick into a chapstick, but it wouldn’t work. There were bits and pieces of Egyptian Magic that wasn’t smushed completely, and the whole thing was too soft. 🙁 The DIY thing failed, but it did give me an excuse to try a new lip balm! I bought Lizard Lips, and I love it.

Best: Rocking my first red lip with Chanel Rogue Laque Allure in Dragon, after shopping at MURALE. So glad I splurged!
Worst: My forehead is still broken out so I am avoiding foundation and makeup near there… I really REALLY hope it clears up soon.

Best Beauty Experience:
Finding out that Sparkle Dust from the Jane Iredale Sweet 15 palette (it’s a sparkly light grey) looks seriously wicked on the lid. I don’t think I ever had my eyes look more grey than brown before. It was really quite strange at first as I’m used to seeing my eyes be brown with maybe a teensy bit of the grey showing through but after awhile I kept thinking, “I didn’t know I had that much grey in my iris color. That is so cool.” Needless to say, I’m quite addicted to that color now. It’s wicked.
Worst Beauty Experience:
This freaking dry skin spell. I swear it’s the most unusual and irritating thing. The rest of my body is fine but my face is peeling in some areas (particularly my nose and between my eyebrows). It’s seriously annoying. I know my nose is a bit peely because I’ve been using a ton of tissues but between the eyebrows is unknown. It’s driving me crazy!
Hm, what color should I paint my nails tonight? That is the big question. 🙂

worst: i got an unfortunate haircut. too short, not layeredd with my hair = EWWW. now i have to go get it recut and my hairdresser says i still have to pay, which is ok with me, i didnt know my hair would turn out so disastrous.
best: a brown and neutral smoky eye with a PopBeauty palette. highlight in the inner corners of my eyes = NEW BEST FRIEND!
Blovet Beauty says
best: my eyebrows are growing out right now and I’m so happy cause I trimmed them super weirdly, so now that they are growing out really quickly, I can finally reshaped them 🙂
worst: using a mask that irritated and caused red bumps on my skin. hate that.

Best: I did a pretty purple eye with MAC Greasepaint stick in V as base with Fashion Groupie e/s and Push the Edge pigment; my Halloween experimentation with A Clockwork Orange inspired look turned out better than I thought; and finally I noticed some good long term results in using Clinque Even Better Skin Tone Corrector along with MAC VAE and VAM because my acne scars are finally starting to disappear.
Worst: I learned that my Essie 3 in 1 glaze turned gummy and unusable and I only had it for about 4-5 months.

Best: Trying a new lip look with UD’s lipstick in Carney and Benefit’s 24k Gold lipstick (which I hardly ever use because it’s… well, gold).
Worst: Losing my new Lancome lipgloss :(!!! I bought it like 2 or 3 weeks ago, and it was quickly becoming one of my favorites. Then it disappeared! It was expensive too, and barely used. Sigh. Maybe it’ll show itself when I clean up.

My best: getting my beauty routine down to about 10 minutes and doing it perfectly in five for my audition on Saturday.
Worst: Being caught in so much rain that I arrived at my job (school) with the worst frizzy curls every

ARGHH Karen! I am so ANGRY >:( So I finally got to make another trip to Seattle & stop by a Rite Aid to get some much wanted/needed cosmetic products. Being in a bit of a hurry, I grabbed what I needed without checking the box/packaging. At the end of the day, I’m in the car heading home & I decide to open my cream eyeliner… IT WAS OPENED & TESTED! The worst part is that I can’t return it & I was really looking forward to trying it out. I know some brands don’t have testers but UGHH! Big sigh. No best beauty experience this week but I did get to try an American Twinkie & it is so much BETTER than a Canadian Twinkie. Same brand… different consistency, strange no!?

Best beauty moment: doing my makeup after a toss-and-turn night and thinking, “Wow, I look pretty!” That feeling can be a rare occurrence.

Best: After traveling all summer, and not having a proper mirror in any of the places I stayed in I was reunited with all my makeup, mirror, and proper lighting. I did my makeup two days in a row…. I felt kind of pretty 🙂
Worst: I have really bad eczema on my hands and it isn’t getting better as quickly as I would have hoped.

Best: my BFF since we were 4 got married on Friday and not only was MY makeup perfectly behaved and lovely, so was the entire bridal party’s. It was a fabulous day!
Worst: Giant turbo zit on my chin. It cooperated and allowed itself to be covered for the wedding, but it’s in that stage where it itches.

Heya Karen, and greetings to Tabs from Linus, Anja and Jester (outdoor cat that we feed, were trying to befriend him so he can be an indoor cat soon) …
My BEST beauty experience this week was holding on to my NO BUY until the end of the month. It wasnt easy though. I met up with my bestie over the weekend and we were so close to a MAC store. I resisted. We also went to Target and I resisted some more. 😀
My WORST beauty experience this week was also holding on to my NO BUY. Ive lain in bed at night wondering if im ever gonna make a dent in my wishlist…. Le sigh….

Best: Superluxe mani and pedi at a fancy spa for a discounted anniversary celebration price. Can’t beat that!
Worst: Chapped, irritated lips are making me look like I’m wearing orange lipliner and no lipstick. So not hot. I can’t even cover it up!

I LOVE my so call life. That show ended way too soon.
My best beauty moment: Saturday night, I rocked my lancome indigo eyeliner with Urban Decay electric blue mascara. It was hot hot, making my brown eyes pop!
My worst beauty moment this week: My shaggy eyebrows that really need to be waxed. Looks like I have daddy long legs growing out of my forehead.

Hmm, best would probably be getting my brows done and hair cut after taking the GRE. I chopped off 10-12 inches!
Worst… probably the second way I did my nails last night (I seriously sat staring at my left hand for 10 minutes deciding whether or not I could stand to walk out of the door with so much glitter and bling on hot pink polish lol…). I ended up taking it all off and doing something ridiculously girly and cute.

Best: Receiving my gift from Sephora from a friend in Indianna. It was a Sephora brand quad of simple browns and neutrals but I still love it!
Worst: Spending my moolah on fake nails and ending up hating it. I mean at least I tried them, you know? But my short, bitten down, dry nails sadly but truly do suit me better:)

Best beauty moment: trimming my bangs quite well…if I do say so myself. 🙂
Worst beauty moment: after working hard to paint my nails all nice and even, I started to peel it away while waiting in line at a Starbucks. Blah.

best of the week- making some really nice beachy waves. I know its like Fall but I live in Texas and can get away with it 🙂
worst of the week- over plucking my brows. >.< everytime I look in the mirror it looks so uneven. What techniques and pencils or shadows can I use to fill it in with out it looking like I have grease paint on my brows?

Oooo, I am SO watching MSCL the next time my boyfriend is late at school!
Best: Figuring out a way to make my eyelashes look AWESOME – curl three times with my Shu Uemura curler, then a layer of CoverGirl Professionelle All-in-One, then a layer of LashBlast. Seriously, my lashes have never looked so long or thick!
Worst: Applying Lash Stiletto liner this morning. I wasn’t thinking (and I haven’t used liquid liner a whole lot) and started on the inside corner of my right eye. It all went into my tearduct and dyed my eye black for about 5 minutes. It stung a bit, and then I couldn’t get the line right on my right eye. THEN, I totally stuck my mascara wand on the side of my nose leaving a big black spot next to where I was trying to wipe out as much of the black liner as possible. Eesh . . . Tell me I’m not the only one who’s done that, please 🙂 It was just REVOLTING looking!
Karen says
Hi Hyzenthlay,
I’m watching it right now, ha! Angela has a zit.
When you watch it be sure to wear your plaid flannel — it’ll feel more authentic!
Holy crap, you had a rough eye makeup morning. I hope it goes smoother for you tomorrow. 🙂
Hyzenthlay says
Thanks 🙂 Today went much better, though I stuck to my normal 24/7 liner, rather than risking it with the liquid liner. Maybe tomorrow I’ll give it another shot 🙂
Karen says
Hi Hyzenthlay,
Liquid liner can be *really* tricky. I didn’t start liking it until I tried Lorac’s Front of the Line Pro. Before that product I was completely useless.
BTW, I’m hell-and-gone addicted to the 24/7 liners!

Best: my nails…whoa!! I don’t know how I did this, but my natural nails are now super long, not broken, all are even and they look so pretty with NYC Love Letters (pale pink) 3 coats and a top coat of Poshe.
Worst: yesterday I drove back to SD from LAX (dropped off my hubby…he’s in the army and leaving for a year deployment)…it was a sadddd day…so I admit I looked *TOW UP*…no makeup, crazy outfit,(we woke up at 3:30am and had to hurry like heck to get there)… it wasn’t good came home, flopped on the couch and watched like 8 hours of Bravo TV to soothe myself and looked pretty unfortunate. Today I’m back to my normal self beauty-wise! :p ‘
OMG…I LOVE my so called life, time for me to bust out the ombre plaid. I think I’ve caught your nostalgia for the 90’s!! *sigh…
