MY BEST:
Yesterday I had one of those rare magical hair days, the ones where I curl my hair and the curls stay bouncy all day long, even through light rain sprinkles and gusts of wind. It was AWESOME! Of course, I was dressed like I fell off a truck (more on that below), but at least my hair looked pretty good. 🙂
MY WORST:
This one’s more clothes-related than makeup, but last Monday I took a long, hard look at my wardrobe situation. Truth be told, it’s dire. There was a time, long ago, when I thought of myself as almost fashionable. Now, though, maybe because I’m usually parked in front of a computer and/or hanging out with a cat, my attire often features jeans with holes in ’em, surf T-shirts and flip-flops, like I’m some kinda pre-teen surfer dude. NOTE: If there are any fashion stylists out there looking for a challenge, you know how to reach me, LOL!
What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Spill the beans in the comments.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Did you happen to catch the Golden Globes? Guess who won for his work in Avatar.

Hi Karen!
Best: My Makeup Forever Mat Velvet+ foundation hasn’t broken me out in the two weeks I’ve used it and it makes my skin look amaaaaazing. I’m so glad I bought it!
Worst: I over plucked my left eyebrow and no shadow, brow pencil, brow filler has been able to balance it out :-(. I don’t think anyone notices or is as nitpicky as me, but it’s driving me crazy!
I was in a clothes rut too! Have you used the Polyvore website? You can create all kinds of outfits, it rushed the fashion inspiration right back into me!
Now back to watching True Blood…my gosh, I’ve never watched a more addicting show!
Talk to ya soon!

Best: some awesome hair, which was even more amazing given the drizzly weather.
Worst: my skin freaked out just in time for a job interview… Upside, I think I found a new product that’s fighting back in record time. 😉
Karen, I’m in a similar clothing predicament. If you were up here in Seattle, I’d suggest we join forces… But as is, I hope you’ll pass on any tips or sales. 😉 Good luck!

best- making the most of an ok mascara, getting a MAC 266 brush on so many ppls recomendations (including Karen!) but i havent triedd it yet!!
Worst- my skin is FLAKY because of the quick climate change from australia, which is dry, to singapore and nothing will work. ive been recomended straight extra virgin olive oil as a last resort for flaky skin…. i think that’s all ive got left.

Best: Discovering BeneFit cosmetics. I received my order this week and I’m beyond impressed with the products, the way they work, the packaging, everything!!!
Worst: I tried a new acne skincare line a few weeks ago and I think my skin is in it’s “purging” stage. I got a bunch of whiteheads on my forehead, I never get pimples up there!
.-= Celine’s last blog post… maravi: Was raining too hard to pick avocados today 🙁 =-.

Best: Really using the MAC Studio finish concealer. This is the first I’ve really used besides the MUFE full cover sample and it’s AWESOME. Looks like I never had an acne problem…at least from afar. haha
Worst: BIG OLE ZIT where I usually get my BIG OLE ZIT. It’s like this space btwn my nose and my cheek apple. Right up front for the whole world to see.

BEST: Oooh, this week is hard, so… kind of a beauty moment – treating myself to a small P&J haul after finishing all of my grad school/fellowship applications.
WORST: Ugh, all week lol. I’ve been fighting a bad cold and the application stress is clearly getting to me because I’m breaking out and my nose is flaking and probably looks the worst it has in a month or two. =/ Additionally, I managed to sprain my shoulder while crouching over my laptop for 20+ straight hours finishing one of those applications on Thursday and further exacerbating the situation on Friday with the last two applications so it’s just not been the best week for me period.

Best: Starting to use a new make-up palette, so I could experiment with new color combinations – have to start seeing my palettes as usable stuff and not just collector’s items LOL.
Worst: None 🙂

hhhmmm my best would be that because i am drinking more water, my skin is pretty clear at the moment. Water truly does help.
And my worst would be that I dropped my Nars Orgasm/Laguna duo on the floor and both of the colors cracked. Boo!
Have a great week!

Hy there! Well, I didn’t actually had a bad experience but I did post 2 make up styles on my blog and one of them turned out horribly on camera (the zebra), it was much prettier in reality…
The best, I finally found a shadow color that goes great on my eyebrows. I use to change my hair color often and I’m always in need to change the eyebrows color also…
Have a fun week!

Best: my make up last Tuesday….. it all came together….
Worst: during whole last week my hair is DREADFULL……. I had a haircut 2 weeks ago, went back after one week cause it was just rubbish….. the cut my hair again….. and still its awfull…… guess what… this hairdresser is no longer on my list!! And the worst thing is that it was pretty expensive (okay, they serve a chocolate with your coffee).

Best: My MAC Sense of Style Power Kohl….the color just makes my hazel eyes POP!
Worst: I have has the HAIR week from HE-double hockey sticks. Did not want to cooperate at all, which is why I ended up with stretchy headbands all last week. Here’s hoping this week is NOT a repeat.
I did watch the Golden Globes (my official start for the AWARDS SHOW season)…..I’m just a sucker for pretty glitzy dresses and long-winded speeches……my favorite look of the night–Olivia Wilde from House!!!

Best: Hmm, not a very good week beauty-wise… I seriously can’t think of any that stand out 🙁
Worst: I think it was on Wednesday, I didn’t have much time to put on a lot of makeup so I just went with UDPP in Sin, brown eyeliner, and concealer. Later that day, my friend saw me and the first thing he said was “Why do you look so tired?” D’oh, are you serious? Boo!

Heya Karen … back to the saltmines I am!!!
My BEST beauty experience was finally getting a haircut. After a year of tangled and blah hair I now have a super cute haircut that I am totally happy with. Takes 5-10 minutes to blow dry and style. Love it!!!!
My WORST would be just generally feeling that my skin is blah because I was sick all weekend … need to exfoliate the sickness away, I guess.
Have a great week!!!

Best: Getting a makeover at MAC on Satruday and getting lots of little pretties, including 4 eyeshadows that work really well together and will get me out of my makeup rut! Also got some lovlies from Lush and Sephora. I even bought a nail polish (Metro chic) that is out of my usual comfort zone (think Bubble bath girl) So it was a really good beauty weekend. 🙂
Worst: Let’s just say I could really use a pedicure.
Never Enough Nails says
You know it’s been a grungy week when I can’t think of a best beauty experience LOL. But my worst is probably along the same lines as yours. I even went shopping yesterday with the intent to remedy my fashion disaster, but I ended up buying 3 black shirts and nothing else! They’re great shirts, but that’s not really what I needed!

BEST: I bought MAC Florida and So Sweet, So Easy Cremeblend blushes and love love love them. I have worn them everyday since I bought them. I got a new layered cut and lighter highlights.
WORST: Too huge zits appeared on my forehead.

Best: My hair is looking fab right now. It is in that perfect haircut stage where it hangs beautifully. I’m loving how soft and shiny it is thanks to Giovanni’s Nutrafix Hair Reconstructor — a silicone-free wonder for curly girls.
Worst: Some new type of blemishes have cropped up on my forehead. Looks sorta like a whitehead but larger and deeper. BHA will be my best friend until these disappear.

Karen,
I’m glad you’re happy with your hair! Good luck with updating your wardrobe. I was told that you should dress for the job that you want not the job that you have. Hope that helps!! Happy Monday!!
BEST: I’m addicted to CG Smoothers Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers Lipgloss. I just bought the Grape one and it looks so much like Stars and Rockets but in a lipgloss-I was blown away something fierce. I don’t know if I’ll wear it alot but it’s fun to wear.
WORST: So I’m sitting and watching the tele on Saturday and i feel the urge to brush my hair. So I’m brushing and it’s feeling great when I look at the brush and see……WHITE FLAKES!!! I look in the mirror and they’re on my scalp. No dandruff just dry scalp. Thank Jesus for my Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Oil Scalp Treatment. Yes it’s in the guy section at Beautybrands but it works!
Stacie says
Best: Hmm, I’ve had a grungy week as well. My hair has been looking pretty good, though!
Worst: I can only pick one? I’ve got a freakin’ zit right between my eyebrows. I look like I’m trying to turn into some kind of demented unicorn! And the skin right there is staying dry and flaky lately, so there’s no covering it up. (Dry and flaky–with a zit! My skin obviously has multiple personalities.) Also, I got three polishes from the China Glaze Wizard of Ooh Ahz collection–and they may be the worst I’ve ever used! They chip within 12 hours of application, and that’s with base and topcoat!!
Tiffany says
My best was trying a new concealer by MUFE. At first I hated it, but was applying with my ring finger. Once I started using a brush it worked perfectly!
My worst is probably my hair – I need a cut soooo badly 🙁

Hi Karen!
My best experience – it’s actually still going strong: the custom palette I created at the MAC store – orb, all races, coquette and showstopper. It did involve some depotting but it was like an art project for me. It’s my current favorite neutral palette I have been using daily! I also rediscovered my Chanel Glossimer gloss in Giggle. Oh and for the second week. I reapplied OPI’s “over the taupe” – I love it that much!
Worse – I’d say wearing my super cute black over the knee boots (with 3′ heel) today – yes, I’m actually working so i figured I’d make myself happy by putting on a dress and my boots. I am walking like an old person outside so I don’t trip in the rain! Sensible shoes was just not an option today! hahahaha

Best: I got a FREE mini facial at Sephora with the Clarisonic and Philosophy products. My face feels fantastic! And I got to leave with a ton of free samples!
I got two bras worth $70 for $9.99 at Dillard’s!!! That is crazy!
Worst: I tried a sample of Make Up For Ever’s HD foundation. I love it but don’t love the setting in and the oil midday. However, I got a sample of the HD powder and tried again and WHOA that stuff works!
The Benefit Bestsellers kit is SOLD OUT at Sephora and Sephora.com. 🙁

Best: Yesterday I just planned on doing a very low key eye look but got carried away. It wound up looking really cool!
Worst: I couldn’t capture any good pics of it and I never even left the house, so it was all for naught.
Also good: Got a bunch of stuff from Sephora: Benefit Sugarbomb, TheBalm TimeBalm concealer, Illamasqua NP in Snap and Jan, Smashbox lip gloss in Aura, Benefit lip gloss in Friends in High Places, Cargo E/S palette in Tahiti, NARS np in Purple Rain, Sephora by OPI np in Too Good For Him! 🙂

Hm, my best beauty experience of the week was discovering Origins Clean Energyâ„¢ cleansing oil. It leaves my skin feeling so soft and clean. 🙂
My worst beauty experience was buying this horrible $9 L’Oreal Telescopic liquid eyeliner. Normally I buy Urban Decay liquid liner in Perversion for $16, but I thought maybe I could find a gratifying one for cheaper. Unfortunately not. 😛
Alyssa says
BEST: Purchasing the “Jemma Kidd Make-up Masterclass” book…seriously, gals, THIS BOOK IS WORTH ITS’ WEIGHT IN GOLD! The pictures alone are heavenly, the step-by-step instructions are smoothe and easy. Even though I have studied make-up since the wee age of 3 (seriously, thanks Mom!) I learned oodles of fun tips while poring over this book. There’s an INCREDIBLE chart of where to apply highlighter…even my non-observant father commented on how “glowy” I was when I went home for Sunday dinner 🙂
WORST: Getting sick and developing a disgusting red tint under my nostrils. No amount of green concealer could make me look better. Oh, well, at least I had the book to distract myself.
Hyzenthlay says
Best: Figuring out how to do a bright lips look! So excited, since I’ve bought some lipsticks that turn out WAY brighter on me than I thought they would, and I couldn’t figure out how to wear them.
Worst: I can’t really think of anything, wahoo!
julie says
Best: Kinerase C8 Peptide Skin treatment! Fades lines in one use! Miracle!
Worst: MAC kohl eye pencil in Feline – this melted off with every blink and I was left with raccoon eyes by midday! Ugh!
TerriB says
Best: Using the $10. NARS concealer duo from Sephora. Custard is the best match I’ve ever had.
Worst: Over-sprayed a strong perfume tester on my coat and spent the day having people back away from me everywhere I went.
You would be a hoot on “What Not to Wear.” Have some friends nominate you and score a new wardrobe. 🙂
Christy says
Best: When the MA at the MAC Pro store asked me if I ever thought about becoming a MA. Loved the compliment 🙂
Worst: My hair is turning orange because I’m working out so much now. I have to soak my hair in purple shampoo longer than usual now. Le sigh, I am high maintenance.

Best: I Finally went to the MAC counter and bought my MAC Russian Red after finally giving in that it is lost forever. I (of course) had the wonderful *Nicki* Mac Lady do my lipstick and she sold me on a *Cherry* lipliner, I had previously used *Brick* and cherry is infinitely better! BEST OF BEST: the BF even kissed me because since its a matte, he said “you don’t have shit on your lips”. LOL. needless to say, he hates gloss, lipstick, even chapstick.
Worst: I dropped my new mineral eyeshadow upside down (lid closed, thankgod) and now the powder won’t go back through the little holes no matter how much I shimmy it… 🙁
Summer Staff says
Best: In Boston, I stumbled upon a cute little shop called Sabon and bought a ginormous glass of Mineral Powder. For 20 bucks, and a whole lot of stuff, I thought it was worth it. The super fine ground mineral powder exfoliates super nicely, without that ‘I just stepped in a chemical bath!’ feeling. Love it!
Worst: I used some new ‘lash boosting’ serum, and it made all of my eyelashes stick together in little spurs. Then it dried that way! I went to put on my mascara and it didn’t separate them at all, so I had spidery creepy lashes the whole day. Cry 🙁
