MY BEST:
It’s been a week of ups and downs, but one bright spot was re-discovering the Chanel Sparkling Satins Eyeshadow Quad.
I bought it a few months ago and sorta forgot I had it, but I started wearing it again while I was in Hawaii last week and now remember why I fell in love with it in the first place.
The pale peach, pink and blue shadows brighten up tired-looking eyes, and the shimmery black adds a subtle sparkle when layered on top of black eyeliner.
The other bright spot has to do with you and the nice things you said after my post yesterday. You’ll never know how much that mattered to me, ladies. Love you very much. 🙂
MY WORST:
This is undoubtedly TMI, but my hair has reached epic levels of grossness. I honestly can’t remember the last time I washed it (was it Wednesday?).
The thought of cold, wet hair dripping down my back in this chilly weather has frightened me away! I think I’m finally over it now (thank gawd!), but hats, ponytail holders and Naturia Dry Shampoo have been up in my grill for days.
What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Please share yours in the comments.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

My worst beauty experience? Going away for the weekend to a very cold location to spend many hours outdoors in near zero temperatures, and realizing I forgot my moisturizer and was probably going to get windburn…
My best — my New Year’s Eve hair. I used hot rollers and it had this great bounce to it that lasted the whole night.

Best: saving money from threading and tweezing my brows myself. I did an awesome job, must say. And I started moisturizing again 🙂
Worst: not doing much with makeup, i guess 😛

Best..I scored Chanel’s Dragon at Nordstrom’s, it was sold out in October, the sales associate at the time didn’t give me any hope that they would get more.
Worst.. Max Factor is no longer sold in the U.S. and I like the mascaras, so it’s back to buying the $23 Shu Uemura.
And.. if I were to wish for anything in 2010, we’d get a Sephora here in Alaska OR a Nars counter at Nordstrom.
E.D. says
Juanita,
Max Factor is still available on drugstore.com
Arianne says
Best: I finally sported a red lip in public on New Year’s Eve. Felt so good! I think I’ll be looking for more wearable reds for regular day use. 🙂
Worst: I’m starting to break out a little, and I think it’s because of this damn cold Canadian weather. Aughh!

Best: NYE makeup! I took my time with it and it came out really nice. Of course we didn’t go anywhere, but I did take pics so at least I got a good new FB profile pic out of it. 😀
Worst: The usual–a big, untimely pimple on my cheek right before school starts. :-[
Never Enough Nails says
Worst beauty experience of the week- slamming my sliding glass door on my right thumb nail!!! OWWW! It has a huge bruise under the nail and I think it may fall off. And I’m a nail blogger!!! Ah!!!!!
Best- Discovering that my new Tarte lipgloss I got for Christmas is super moisturizing and I kicked chapped lips while lookin’ goood!

Best – not wearing foundation today after wearing it for what seems like two weeks straight. I must admit it’s not part of my everyday routine and wearing it everyday was starting to not be so much fun.
Worst – my super dry lips and hair. Everything I put on my lips looks stupid because you can see the cracks, etc. And my hair is so dry and staticky I walked around the furniture store yesterday petting myself to try and get my hair to calm down. But the hubby and I bought a new living room sectional today though so it was all worth it;)
Stacie says
The best experience would be finally getting my hands on the Urban Decay Book of Shadows II. I’ve been lemming that for the longest! The worst–my hair looks like crap today! It’s limp and the waves are falling flat. I think I overdid it on the leave-in conditioner…
Misty says
Stacie,
Where did you find it???
Rati says
My best experience: I have fallen in love with blue liners. They are just so hawt this season. Bought one from Revlon Matte range.
My worst experience: These winters rae making my lipes super dry. I am getting concious about my lips by minute. grrrrrr
Have a good day! 🙂

Happy new year!
Best- my skin thrives in cold weather so been clear since it became below zero.
Worst – not having time to put makeup on at all. not even lipgloss.
Your story about not washing your hair made me remember my mom’s motto at new year’s: whatever you do on new year’s day, you’ll do the rest of the year!”. I hope you got to wash your hair for new year’s hehehe :)!
Love your blog btw!

Best: Having little to no fallout with MAC Mineralized Eye Shadows for NYE. Than I was able to glue my lashes on with no issue.
Worst: Waking up on New Year’s day with a major hangover and realizing I lost one of my fake lashes and my eye makeup smeared everywhere. My friend didn’t have any eye makeup remover or baby oil, so I had to use unscented hand lotion. So not fun! I should’ve packed some cleansing oil

Best: Discovering American Apparel nailpolishes. They have a cute mint green colour called “Office.” I also bought the Lorac Double Faced Book with my VIB 10% coupon.
Worst: Feeling a bit of beauty buyers remorse. Do I really need more eyeshadows or just makeup in general?

The Chanel Sparkling Satins quad is pretty btw and I was debating between getting that one or the Murano quad. Oh the indecisiveness!

Best: I think overall the tone of my skin has improved to the point where I feel like if I don’t wear cover up, it’s not a national issue. Obviously I still look better with it, but I feel like the poor tone of my skin has improved drastically, and I just noticed it this week!
Worst: My skin is SO dry and itchy…but the wintry shampoo I use which is extra moisturizing is weighing down my hair and making it look and feel dirty. It was skeeve city until today, when I used baby shampoo to clarify (which I know I’m not supposed to do, but it was a situation, Jersey Shore style). And now my hair is going to freeze, fab. I hate this weather.

My Best: All those Lipfinity lip colors and glosses by Max Factor that I got to review…at first I thought it will be though but in the end I really enjoy it. They are really great products at reasonable prices and long lasting. 🙂 I also got the Rock’n Dreams fragrance by Valentino and it smells divine.
My Worst: Hmm hmm hmm……nothing here 🙂

The best one is the AVON Magix Primer. It really holds the eyeshadow in its place all day long!
The worst experience has to do with hair also, because my hair won’t get a normal shaped unless I flatten it. And if I do that too often it will be damaged… So I keep it in tails, which is not the best option for my look 🙁
Ah… Hope I get a visit from the Hair Fairy…. 😛
kiss!

Happy new year to you, Karen!
This past week was definitely the WORST, no thanks to a respiratory infection that sprang up from a horrible cold. Blech.
The BEST: Finally salvaging my bottle of Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple, which spilled all over the Ziploc that I carried it in during my vacation. With a little distilled ionized water, I ended up diluting the PMS… and guess what, it’s actually working fine for me again, too, after months of bailing out on me.
BTW, since today is Monday in the Philippines, I’d like to say that today would probably be in the running for the Best Beauty Experience of NEXT Week!

best: discovering (well, getting as a Christmas gift) L’Occitane Shea Butter Verbena Body Cream. The stuff has been amazing to my dry, flaky skin.
worst: did a sparkly mani for NYE, already had to touch it up yesterday, and it’s chipping again 🙁
E.D. says
Best: Rediscovering Cetaphil cream (in the tub). It sinks in quickly, has no scent, and keeps my extremely dry skin moisturized.
Worst: Not keeping up with my brows. I really need to do some plucking every other day, or things go downhill.
CC says
Best: Experimenting with a new eyelash growth serum and discovering that it works! Now if only it could curl those lashes, too…
Worst: Noticing that my eyebrows are faint! I’m going to apply some of the eyelash serum on my brows and see if that helps.
rochness says
worst so far….my eyes are almost swollen shut. an allergic reaction to one of the following (or the combination)…too faced lock down cream shadow and MUFE eyeliner. *sigh*. i don’t know what the culprit is yet, need to test but thinking where….
on a more positive note….happy new year. 🙂

Best will be the sugar lip scrub that I discovered here. Worst is the hair situation, too. I’m thinking of going green on my hair…
NINA says
BEST — rediscovering an old favorite daily lotion, Nivea, on sale @ Walgreens.
WORST — OMG I still need to get my brows done. Granted I dont have a lot, but they are unruly and all over the place.

Awe, Karen….you make us blush!! We gotcha girl, never fear………
Best – getting myself in gear and going through all of my various makeup bags—finally, some organization, so I can see what I have, want to keep, want to swap (on makeupalley) and what to throw away….I feel so accomplished.
Worst – besides dealing with the “monthly bloat”, my lips are way TOO dry….I think a sugar scrub is in my future this week……
Catherine says
Best: I got home to find loads of Christmas beauty goodies waiting in my mailbox – especially the highly anticipated Tsumori Chisato for Shu Uemura Pink Venus Asia Exclusive lipstick. 😀
Worst: My skin continuing to go crazy from the recent changes in temperature and humidity from going up to San Jose, staying in my SO’s parents’ FREEZING COLD house, and coming back down to San Diego.

Best: Bought Chanel spring last week, got Kaska Beige Quad, Sillage E/S single (very pretty), new hiliter, and Insouciante lippie
Worst: my poor skin is so dried out, my hands look horrible and my lips are so dry if I dont moisturize them 4x per day they look like crap!
Stephie says
Best: Putting on fake eyelashes REALLY well one day when I just felt like wearing them for fun…around the house. Kind of a waste. ha.
Worst: Breaking out around my nose and forehead. NAsTY..

Best: Loving cheap new mascara – Maybelline Stiletto!
Worst: The cold weather making my entire face chapped! (Boston winters are getting nasty! Friday is looking to be about 12 degrees)

My best was definitely my NYE hair, too! I decided I was going to go nuts and rock a serious faux-hawk. With a bit of mousse, some bobby pins, and a final spritz of hairspray, it looked awesome! I’m definitely doing it again.
My worst is my skin after this past week. It was freezing in Atlanta, and the hotel air was so dry, that I’m simultaneously broken out and dried out. My eyelids are peeling, and it’s so icky that I can’t even wear makeup right now.

Hi Karen,
I was in the East Coast last week and literally got back early this morning. Best beauty experience: BERGDORF GOODMAN beauty department. I have never been so overwhelmed by product. I did manage to pick up some goodies from Edward Bess and Paul&Joe counters and yes put a hurt on my checking account because of it.
Worse:
buying 2 Tarte duo glosses on sale at Sephora – they smelled like play-doh sadly. Now I know why there were on sale for $9ea.
Malvidia says
WORST: yesterday i had the worst. hair. ever. And I had to go take pictures for my ID card, which turned out totally horrible! I think I’ll have them taken again on the first good hair day, lol.
BEST: my boyfriend bought some amazing false lashes for me! they’re rainbow-coloured and shiny and SO PRETTY! I haven’t used them yet (they’re quite loud) but I’m always looking at them! They’re incredibly beautiful and the fact that they come from my BF is a huge plus!
blair says
BEST: getting my fave red lipstick all over my boy at midnight on NYE
WORST: running our of my fave primer (sally hansen natural’s luminizing primer) and having to wait for it’s delivery…i’m like a fiend!
