MY BEST:
Finally (after seven months!) getting my hair cut, and I’ve got bangs! Now I don’t feel like I’m carrying around a small animal on my head.
MY WORST:
I guess I haven’t gotten enough sleep lately because my dark circles kicked into overdrive, 🙁 and none of my usual tricks are working. On the bright side, it gives me a good excuse to try a new concealer! 🙂
What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Please share yours in the comments.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. How’s it going today? I’m taking it slow and steady this morning. I watched part of So I Married An Axe Murderer on Hulu while I had my coffee. That movie cracks me up every time, like the part where they’re dancing “like children of the night!” I so want to do that.
Genesis C says
Hey Karen! Guess I am first.
As far as my BEST beauty moment, I bought Maybelline’s 24 hour concealer and it has been working WONDERS! And it was at a pretty good price too (about $5). Very satisfied!
And, as far as my WORST beauty moment, I’d have to say using my old Maybelline (I seem to be their #1 customer haha!) mascara (the one with the green and pink tube). After like 3 hours I had residue under my eyes from it and I wasn’t in front of a mirror to notice! Totally not cute.
PS- Have you picked any winners for the Nars eyeshadow contest? I am totally dying for those colors!
Karen says
Hi Genesis,
There’s just one winner, and I already sent her an email to let her know that she won. 🙂
Happy Sunday!

Best: I finally bought the Shu Uemura eyelash curler. It’s amazing! I’m so excited, yet I feel so horrible for buying a $19 eyelash curler when my trusty Maybelline is $2.50.
Also, I received a few Aromaleigh eyeshadows in the mail on Friday and they are absolutely gorgeous. Pretty colors with great glitter (but not overkill like Urban Decay eyeshadows).
Worst: I was on vacation in Seattle this week and had the worst breakout of cystic acne in 2 years. I took a ton of pictures of myself, and I’m so broken out in all of them! Need to find my copy of Photoshop and fix those up!
.-= Celine’s last blog post… maravi: I slept in my Snuggie last night. It was amazing. =-.

Best: I’m not sure . . . I didn’t do much this week. I guess I’ll go with feeling really great after the two yoga classes I did this week. Yesterday’s class REALLY kicked my butt, though, and I am mega-sore in my core! We did a bunch of salutations REALLY fast, and then the teacher realized most of us were doing things wrong, so we went through a salutation REALLY slowly, practicing each movement until we improved. Then another set of REALLY fast salutations. OUCH! But it feels so good, too 🙂
Worst: Whitehead that popped up in the middle of my chin at my boyfriend’s school’s holiday party. I see his co-workers about two or three times a year (and I really like them), and I saw the zit RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY CHIN when we got home last night. *sigh* At least we’re all high school teachers, so they’re used to seeing zits, too!
Beth says
I would say that my best beauty moment of this week is buying MAC Pervette lipstick. Its such a pretty colour that I don’t really know why I didn’t buy it sooner. I now have a major jones’ to buy a whole lot more MAC goodies and I want them all now, now, now. I also just ordered myself some Elemis goodies from QVC. I’ve used one item from the range before which I loved, so fingers crossed the new bits are as good.
My worst beauty moment of this week is my weird rash. Its not getting worse, but its not getting better either and its just everywhere – I’m feeling pretty horrible about it but hopefully the doctor will give me something to fix it tomorrow *crosses fingers*.
Hope you had a great weekend!

The best is I wore my Mac violetta lipstick for the first time in a long time and remembered how awesome it is! It lasted ALL day. I didn’t need to reapply it even after 4 hours and eating! I will make sure it doesn’t get lost in the mix again.
The worst is that it’s winter time and now my dry skin/eczema is in full force. My ears and nose are peeling and it’s affecting my foundation application. I have to scrub my nose off to make it descent under my foundation. It’s so annoying and it makes me paranoid. Sorry to gross anyone out.
Kate & Zena says
Shontay, have you tried Neutrogena’s Norwegian Formula hand cream on your eczema? I use that where I typically get eczema issues in winter and I haven’t had any eczema yet this year. It’s super super concentrated so you only need a pea-sized amount or less per area to keep them hydrated and unirritated. I like that it’s fragrance free, doesn’t bother my super-sensitive skin and it hasn’t clogged my pores. Aveeno’s Daily Moisturizing Lotion works too but I find that clogs the pores on my face where I get eczema.
Rebecca says
Best: Discovering HiP eyeliners – so creamy! I bought one in black, and it’s so easy to apply. I love it!
Worst: THREE zits popped up right over my lip yesterday. Now I look like I have herpes. Tres sexy.

Rebecca, which one did you discover? The cream eyeliner or the new pencils? I haven’t tried the pencil yet! The cream though is divine.
I hate zits near my lips. I get them at around this time too due to finals. What I’ve found that helps is applying a warm compress on the zits for ten minute increments and that should help bring the bacteria up and form a head (that sounds so wrong!). If you have an extractor, use that once the white top forms followed up by salacylic acid (like Neutrogena Rapid Clear Fight & Fade 2-in-1 Gel) gel after you extract. Your zits should be gone about two days after extraction with the Neutrogena gel (I use the stuff religiously around finals time). The area where your zits were will be a bit dry but I’ll take the dryness over the zits anyday. Don’t pick them though!

Hmm, I guess my best would be using MAC Shale eye shadow this week. I know it’s a plum/purple, but it is so versatile! I love this shadow! Traded in my MAC Jest (see below for worst experience) for a MAC Grain – love it!
Worst experience would be using the MAC paint pot in Bare Study. It looked AWFUL on me! Waaaaay too frosty and my eye shadows didn’t blend in well at all. Also, using MAC Jest shadow. Same thing – waaaay to frosty and didn’t look good on me at all. It’s weird, because I love the MAC Patina eye shadow and it’s a frost. Maybe I can only wear the frosts in darker shades. Oh, also, not loving the Dazzleglass Creme in Perfectly Unordinary. Might be returning it. I find MAC lip glosses are just too sticky for me.
Nicole says
Best: tried a couple of eyeshadows that I haven’t used in a while and hubby saw me getting ready for work and gave me a compliment (usually he’s too tired in the morning to notice!)
Worst: well, I’m avoiding my getting a haircut because I know it won’t go well :-/ So this is more of a ‘worst to come’
Rae says
This week was a great one, so I have two “bests” instead of a best and a worst =D I did makeup for Jane Eye all week, so here they are!
1) Through a series of catastrophic events, I was left as the head of hair and makeup for closing night yesterday. And it went AMAZINGLY well.
2) I can age a face in four minutes. =D
(I know I’ve already said this a zillion times, but I *love* your haircut, Karen!)

My best was going to pilates for the first time ever and really enjoying it. Pretty much everything was awesome, from the instructor to the class. I’m definitely going back this week.
My worst was getting a bad breakout on my cheeks. A coworker gave me some proactive masque and that seems to be helping a bit but I have yet to find a foundation or concealer that doesnt also break me out, so this is a bit frustrating…
Alice says
WORST: post-flu skin. i’ve been ill for the past week or so and my skin is really showing it. it’s pale and pasty and blotchy… and i also have a pimple, BLAH!!! i switched my skin care routine to help it clear a bit but it’s a thing that takes time…
BEST: i finally found some time to do some fun and colorful make-up, i chose bright green and it came out really well! my boyfriend loved it too, he likes colorful eyes! the time was enough to do a full face so i also wore foundation and everything, yay!
amy says
Worst is that I tried a new eye cream and it broke me out a bit. I have small pimples around my eye area.
Best is that Sephora sent the $15 off coupon to my email and I am probably going to finally pick up a box of the Urban Decay book of Shadows. I have it on hold for me at Sephora. Plus I lost weight without even trying loose weight.

Kate & Zena says
Best: Killing blackheads and potential zits with the Jurlique Intensive Repair Mask while finding a few spare moments from the Ninth Circle of Hell to relax.
Worst: Finding I had Pufferfish face the day after a particularly bad choir session that ended with me in tears. Let’s say my normally relaxing class didn’t leave me very relaxed.
Today, I have to finish my Soc. Psych final and reflection paper about who knows what. ACK!
Frances says
Best: Getting the Stila lipgloss set for both me and my sister – I went to Sephora and literally tried all of the sets and this was the one that I loved the most.
Worst: Despite the fact that it’s December and finally cold, my allergies are still bothering me and my eyes are still red and itchy. Not so pretty.
laur says
my best style item of the week was getting some vintage buttons for my vest, and the worst was my favorite lip gloss leaking in my bag!
.-= laur’s last blog post… Twins: The Less List =-.

Best: Finally finding a combination that /might/ just cover up my dark circles. At least, it was the best I’ve ever come up with. (Bobbi Brown corrector, Max Factor pan stick foundation, MUFE HD powder. Didn’t even try to crease or slide).
Worst: Sudden cold snap made my eczema act up on my wrists, my lips chap, and my face break out. *Sigh*
resham says
My best: $20 GC from sephora….free money in any form is always welcome…:)
My worst: I lost my cell phone…:(

Best: The highlights I got the week before finally settled – fresh looks good. But about a week into it, they look great. And the Biotin supplement I started taking for my nails (and hair) seems to have made my eyelashes grow. Like Snufalupagus lashes with minimal mascara. Both the hair and the lashes should make the holiday party season a snap.
Worst: The acne breakout cycle finally stopped, but I have the red blotches left to fade. Another week *sigh*.
Just to follow up your question this week, I genuinely like my job. Maybe not every task I have to do but I try hard to make it not seem personal to others. My boss is fair and gives me a tremendous amount of freedom to do my job the way I prefer to get things done. She also has trust in my judgement, and I feel valued in what I bring. Not a bad gig. =)

Worst: Dry skin……I have not had the time or energy for my normal routine this week–who has the time, when I’m working myself into breakdown? This holiday TERROR has got to end soon…..the only bright spot—my next paycheck (the week before XMAS) is gonna be Sa-WEEET!!…….on and I’ve got NO SIGN on my Sephora gift card……wah!
Best: Found a local source for China Glaze, so I am now the proud owner of TINSLE and Emerald Sparkle….and they were on SALE to boot! My NON-beauty Best of the week was that I upgraded my cell–I now have a texting keyboard AND a camera (I know, where have I been, right?)….now I have to really figure out how Twitter works……jeeze, am I that behind the times??
Stacie says
My best was getting my hair cut by a stylist who is an expert with curly hair. It looks smokin’! (I’ll get highlights this coming Friday.)
My worst was probably the disappointment of MAC Amber Lights. I was so excited about that one. Unfortunately, it came out way too orange on my super pale skin. I did manage to come up with a combo that makes it more wearable, so that was good. I just won’t be wearing it alone as a wash anytime soon!
Joey says
My best: Buying a MAC 252 and seeing what a difference it makes in the application of certain eyeshadow textures – SO much better for super shimmery colors. Oh, and my Fyrinnae care package came.
My worst: I just realized I should really try to lose a couple of pounds =( 30 Day Shred, here I come!
Ruth says
The worst was being in a rush and picking up a waterproof mascara, which I never wear. I have no makeup remover, so it hurt to take it off, then I had really red eyes for 3 days. On a lighter note, I have 2 orders coming from Sephora and 1 from Nordstrom, all makeup. I can’t wait to get them !
Christy says
Best: They had Barbie loves Stila at Murale 😀 I got the lip enamel trio and the 4 pack stila smudge pot set. These are so hard to find north of the border without having to order them from Sephora!
Worst: They were out of stock at Sephora for the NARS Albatross & Orgasm Duo. I wanted to use the $15 gift card for it, but I got the Lavanilla mini-vial set instead.

BEST: Found my long-lost Victoria’s Secret lip gloss palatte! And there’s still a decent amount left. 🙂
WORST: Breaking out like a mofo. Stress + PMS = gross me.
Marisol says
Best – after 2 months of a disaster hair cut, I am finally to a point were I like my hair again.
Worst – too many lemmings from Sephora. I must refrain from shopping 🙁

Best: Hm, I don’t have a particular *best* really jump out at me. It was a pretty mediocre week all-in-all. I did do my first loose-glitter-tipped manicure on Monday night, which was fun and turned out quite pretty. I finally found Smitten with Mittens (not for me though, for a friend overseas). Oh! Actually, SO was gone all weekend at an info session at Amazon where he recently received an offer from, and there was a Lush ~3 blocks from his hotel so he picked up some goodies for me right before catching the plane back down! He brought my favorite Fresh Face mask, B.B. Seaweed, a sample of the Dream Cream which I’m hoping will fix my eczema, and he bought all three solid sugar scrubs for me because he couldn’t pick one LOL.
Worst: My skin has been really flaky and pretty broken out lately. It’s definitely on the mend now, but this last quarter has just been AWFUL for me. The stress is totally kicking my hormones out of whack and making it much harder for me to recover from illnesses and my skin is just going crazy. In particular, I’ve had a lot of cystic acne and peeling on my nose. On Thursday, I tried wearing the Perricone No Foundation Foundation for the first time (with setting powder) and went out shopping after school/work since SO had flown out earlier that day. I had a pretty unsatisfying shopping trip, but when I got home, I realized not only was I reaaaaaly oily, I had a gross flap of dried, dead skin right smack dab in the middle of my nose! So embarrassing!

the less i wash my hair the better it looks. and because ive been eating fruit lately my teenage bad skin is slightly less bad. also i bought the Barbie Loves Stila smudge pot in Little Black Dress (i reserved it- it was selling out!) and its GORGEOUS.
Worst-
the lancome deluxe brush set karen reviewed is out of stock at nordstrom.com! i was planning to gift it to myself for xmas…. but i guess not 🙁 And im still mourning over Chanel Jade………… me and a billion trillion others!! Haha
