MY BEST:
My hair has been the bane of my existence for the past two months. I’m talking out-of-control roots, brassy highlights and overgrown layers that don’t sit right. Yesterday, I *finally* got it together and scheduled a cut and color for Wednesday. I’m counting down the hours!
MY WORST:
I was sitting on the couch watching Mad Men (SIDE NOTE: Has everyone on that show completely lost their mind?) when Tabs climbed onto my lap looking for lurvies. He reached up, placing both paws on my shoulder, which is what he does when he wants his tummy rubbed. I started petting, but something felt a little off. The fur on his belly, usually super soft, felt coarse and dry. When I looked down, I realized I was petting my own hair… My eighth grade self would have described the incident as “Hella moded.” 🙂 Guess it’s a good thing I scheduled that haircut, LOL!

My best experience was the makeup look I had on Friday night in the club ( DJ ATB) when I used Illamasqua Pure Pigment in Android. It is a really beautiful shimmery shade.
My worst: well I had some breakouts and I tried to cover them with HD foundation by Make Up For Ever (which I bought 2 weeks ago) but I was disappointed to see that I can’t hide much. The foundation it said to have a medium coverage but it’s really to much said.

Awww, good thing you’d scheduled your appointment! Can’t wait to see pictures of how it turns out. 🙂
My best: discovering I can, in fact, wear red lips.
My worst: stress appearing on my face. Bags under the eyes, blemishes… and getting enough sleep isn’t doing the trick. Boo.
Oh, well. Hope your weekend’s been good, Karen.

I didn’t really have any good or bad experiences this week . . . but I did have a funny one!
While visiting my parents, I was showing my mom the makeup I use, and how I use it. Lately I’ve been lining my tightline with the black from the Smashbox WISH for a Perfect Pencil to try and make my lashes look thicker. I was digging around in my makeup bag, and could only find the forest green color . . . Apparently for the past several days I’d been using the forest green, rather than the black, since I found the black still in my makeup storage area when we got home yesterday! Oops! 🙂

The best experience is quite a small one. After years of staying faithful to my simple bar of soap, I finally bought a loofah and a bottle of body wash. I cant remember the last time I lathered up so much. I was a huge bubble, lol! I find happiness in the small things.
The worst is probably the fact that I’m pmsing right now which always always means breakout, generally on the lower part of my face. After years of acne prone skin, I know not to get down about a pimple but they’re still not fun!

Let’s see my worst was also my hair. It’s at this almost shoulder length stage where the right side (not the left to make it consistent though) always wings outwards and nothing I do will tame it. It drives me nuts! I blow dry it straight then flat iron it straight, but it never fails that it starts swooping out 5 minutes later, sigh.
My best was trying out my new Clarisonic and LOVING it! Don’t know if it’s going to make an impact on my skin yet, but it feels super clean and smooth when I’m done using it!

Best: I was totally in love with my Thanksgiving mani, Lippmann Superstar… so autumnal and festive!
Worst: I’ve been slacking on my sleep and skincare routine for the past couple of weeks and now I’m totally paying for it! 🙁

LMAO! You crack me up.
My best beauty moment this week was giving my dry flaky skin a facial. My skin feels considerably healthier.
My worst beauty moment this week was having a few too many drinks and deciding to paint my nails. A kinder gardener could finger paint better than how I painted my nails.

BEST- Looking hot when i bumped into an old friend.
WORST- The london rain washing off my hard work!! grrrr

Best: Discovering the beauty of Tarte powder blushes. The colour shows up on my skin tone and it has staying power twice as long as all my other powder blushes.
Worst: PMS pimples!

My best: My shiny blue and gunmetal eye look that I did for the Deadmau5 concert I attended on Wednesday! I used the Urban Decay Book of Shadows 2 (Jinx, Gunmetal, and Perversion) and paired it with a dark purple lip (Urban Decay Confession).
My worst: I have a pimple on my chin! =( no!

BEST: A great chocolatey-smokey eye using UD Toasted, Chopper and JANE Brownie Points.. little bit of shimmer, and not too dark, but luuuuuuuuuurvely with my blue-gray eyes.
WORST: Ran out of John Freida Frizz-Ease serum…. magic in bottle all gone. 🙁

Best: my skin is finally clearing up after going berzerk (yes, *that* time of the month has passed), so I didn’t have to spend a long time doing foundation/concealer in the mornings.
Worst: I bought a bottle of Clean Baby Girl from Winners (Canadian equivalent of TJ Maxx or Ross) for $30 but when I brought it home and sprayed it, it smelled AWFUL! It was horribly rancid and smelled nothing like what I remembered it to be. I was so disappointed, I’ve always wanted a Clean perfume but had always shied away from the price tag (about $100 here).
P.S. Mad Men! I agree, everything has changed; season 3 is all about change and decay. I was constantly shocked/gasping throughout the series! Soooo good 🙂

Best: I got compliments from the MAC MA’s at both the store and counter for the eye makeup I had on yesterday. When I mentioned it was Volturi Twilight, they thought it was hilarious but they liked the silver, champagne and burgundy combo.
Worst: The epic fail of the Volturi Twilight Obsess Lipgloss. It was so sheer when it’s bright hot pink in the pan. I could’ve gotten a decent MAC lipglass instead!
PS. Have you tried purple shampoo & conditioner to cut down on the brassiness of gold highlights? L’oreal Professional, Joico and Pantene have them. I use Pantene Silver Expressions once a week so my highlights don’t get too brassy.

Kate & Zena says
Ha ha, I’ve been guilty of finding myself petting my own hair instead of Zena too! Don’t feel too bad!
Best: Mastering the cat eye with liquid eyeliner finally and receiving my deep purple silk scarf in the mail.
Worst: It’s a three-way tie between my hair being dry (the bane of my existence–cold, windy Midwestern winters), finding an eyebrow hair that turned out to be ingrown which turned into a very bloody mess, and my skin deciding to be drier than the Sahara again. I just can’t ever win, can I?

Just wanted to let you know I absolutly LOVE this topic and your stories!!
My best beauty experience of this week: MAC’s e/s Satin Taupe & Goldmine look great together (with a little Teddy in the waterline).
My worst: it has been 6 weeks since I last went to the hairdresser and it is still so short (I have short hair, but this time its short short instead of long short)…….

Best: Definately my MAC hauls this weekend and rockin’ out some serious smoking eyes in blues and today in purples. Found my HG foundation at MAC too as an N1 in F&B foundation! Yeah!
Worst: All those pesky greys are coming through in my hairline, temples and part. When I get really desparate (like I am now) and its too soon for a trip to the salon, I take my brownish mascara and paint over the greys. Ya. I’m that desparate.

Karen, my best is the same as yours! I finally got it together after weeks of procrastinating and scheduled a hair appointment. It’s this Tuesday afternoon. I have curly hair, so I hate going to the salon! It never ever turns out right. So I haven’t been in about 18 months. Surprisingly, thanks to constant conditioning and no heat styling, I only have a few split ends. But it’s really long and completely in need of layering. So I finally sought references and found a stylist who’s supposed to be an expert with curls. Cross your fingers! Umm, worst experience would have to be my skin drying out as the weather cools. My B&BW body cream isn’t doing the job, so I guess I’m going back for the body butter!
Amber says
Ugh, I’m right there with you on the need for hair help Karen! Hope your Wednesday appointment goes better than my last one which leads me to my worst.
Worst..maybe ever was a hair cut attempt at a new (read cheaper) place. The result of my desire for a hot San Francanesque style? A girl mullet…not even kidding…a girl mullet on a thin haired girl. Anyone know how to hide a girl mullet?
Best: discovering that Bare Escentuals will actually cover up my melasma without looking like I have a pound of foundation on my forehead. There was much happy dancing done over this.
meimei says
I’m going to start with my WORST: I have a problem with my favorite pair of heels. They’re strappy sandals, and a little tight around the foot, so I’d expect them to keep me from wobbling. Right? Wrong. In this case, I’ve been wobbling and walking unsteadily in them. 🙁 Structurally, the shoe is fine… but I’m an “underpronator” (my feet roll outward when I walk) and they slip inside the shoe quite easily, causing me to wobble. Now I have to take them to the cobbler and get them fixed. Bummer!
BEST: My bangs are growing out, but they are finally behaving! 🙂

I’ve never heard that phrase before! Maybe I need to hang out with 8th graders more often. Um..yeah…or not. lol
My best would be today, when I decided to look fabulous just to run a couple errands. My hair looked great, my outfit was cute, and my makeup was polished and gorgeous. I don’t have many days like this, so it felt amazing.
My worst would be later today, once my lipstick decided to sink into lines on my lips, and formed one bright red line on the inner rim of my top lip. GRRR.

Worst moment: I tried to cut my own hair. (I am black and I have an afro.) I seriously jacked up my hairline so I looked like Worf from Star Trek. After crying for about 30 minutes, I cut off as much as possible and got to the beauty supply store post haste. I purchased a chin length, black, loose curl, lace front wig. Which leads to my best moment…
Best Moment: Everyone loved my new style including me. I feel glamorous. It is wonderful to put on my hair every morning and have bouncy, sexy curls. Plus, a the beauty supply store, I found the perfect gold eyeshadow for my complexion!
Best Moment, 2: My four year old daughter came into the bathroom while I was straightening up and asked me about my foundation brush (which she thought was a paint brush). This lead to about a 15-minute tutorial about wearing foundation, the importance of blending, and why you might want to wear concealer. She then repeated my lesson by applying and blending foundation on her forearm. She was very good at it. Now, I’m a little worried…. lol.

Karen,
I love these posts. It’s like confession but way more fun!
Worst: Mystery hair on my mug that wasn’t there before. Eeek! Time to bust out the hair removing artillary.
Best: I went to Walgreens in the midst of a holiday parade. Side note: parades are kinda creepy to me. Anyways, I went to Walgreens and bought an EOS summer fruit flavored lipbalm. It’s amazing!

Best: Taking the time to actually straighten my hair which I never do. I looked quite polished and pretty much EVERYONE noticed haha
Worst: sprouting some more zit monsters…

laughed so much about Tabs and you petting your own hair! My worst is that the colder weather makes my rosacea flame, now I’m broken out on cheeks and chin and red blotches. Takes time for my skin to accept the cold. My best is that I got a hair trim. My hair is chin length and it’s totally obvious when it grows and loses shape

My best and my worst are the same!
I chopped off my below-the-shoulder, super thick and wavy hair… into a pixie! Definitely the best, because it was a drastic change, but the worst, because there was some total shock involved. I think I’m going to love it, but it’s going to take another couple days to fully appreciate it. I swear, there was enough hair on the floor to make a carpet, which is super scary!

Aww, LOL, well it’s a good thing you’re scheduled for an appt on Wednesday then!
My best: Thanksgiving FOTD was really pretty and I got some nice photos.
My worst: Had a really, really rough Monday and ended up crying all my makeup off 3x over, plus I’m pretty sure I got a few more stress pimples because of it. =/

My worst is also hair-related. I decided to get the nasty ends cut off of my hair this past week, since I have lost track of my last trim, and my fine, curly hair was looking a bit fried. Well, I used a different stylist this time, since I was so desperate to get this done, and she cut MUCH shorter layers in my hair than I normally get, so I look like a giant puffball, no matter what kind of product I use! Help! To make matters worse, she left some length to the underneath layers of my hair, so it looked like I was sporting two different hair cuts–short and ver curly/poufy on the upper layers, and longer and shaggy below. So, I have since taken matters into my own hands and shortened up the length to at least make it look like one bad haircut, I guess. Just waiting for it to grow out….I hate curly hair sometimes!
I guess the best would be that all of my ends look healthy now 🙂

Best – trying out the Sally Hansen Wax Strips. They worked great!
