WOW! This is totally something I can see the stylish people from the Capitol in the first Hunger Games book would do.
Janine Ker, an AMAZING hairstylist I follow on Instagram, creates these fantastical hairstyles using stencils and temporary hair color sprays.
These are giving me ideas! It would be fun to do for a birthday party, a festival or a concert (Mariah Carey is coming to Vegas in July… Maybe I can find some silk butterflies?!).
I wouldn’t be able to do it myself, though. I’d need a stylist’s help for sure.
My hair is unruly, so I think I’d need a ponytail or a braid. Then I’d put the stencil on the side or the back of my head.
There’s absolutely NO WAY a stencil could work on this ill-behaved mop o’ mine if I left my hair down and let it run wild and free.
Not gonna happen. What would start as a cute rainbow kitten chasing heart-shaped bubbles would quickly devolve into weird abstract art in about 2.5 seconds.
What do you think of hair stencils? Would you ever give ’em a try?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I have never seen or heard about these hair stencils. But they do look interesting. Would look great on the runway!

They’re fun to look at, but girl, I’m the type who thinks she deserves a paid vacation just for washing and combing my hair. There’s no way I am ever doing this. Lol.

I think they’re super cool but agree that they work best on tightly smoothed out areas. I’m way too old and unhip for them but think they’re awesome on other people. And butterflies would be really neat. 🙂 El Hub is handy, right? I’ll bet he could do a great job on your hair if you got the “canvas” all set up for him!

I don’t love them to be honest. I think they are better for little girls than for adults.

Love the concept, but I’m going to go with Chris25 here. I deserve a gold medal for washing and styling on the regular. I can barely carve out a morning to get to the salon every six months (roots galore as I type). Stencils are about ten orders of magnitude outside my time allotment. But super cute!!!

They’re unique, interesting and creative. That said, I have short, unruly hair that springs into a life of it’s own 45 minutes after blow drying (don’t know why I bother some days) so these would end up an abstract mess on me. Also too old and too unhip for this stuff. (Although I am tempted to dye my hair a steely, blue gray color.)

I can see some people using something like this in BR for some football game or carnival… but I skip this.

i think this would only work in a photo shoot.

I’ve never seen these but now I need one! I have a buzz cut and would sport the hell out of one cause it’d be zero maintenance. I suspect it’d work better with those halloween aisle colored hairsprays that have a little bit of stick to them, rather than a hair chalk.
Karen says
Hey Saffron,
How cool! How long have you had the buzz cut?

If someone would do my hair like in the last picture, I would totally be up for a stencil for a special occasion. I rarely do anything at all fancy with my hair though I keep wanting to try one of those fabulous colors everyone else seems to have. But then I’d have to keep up with the coloring and that’s to much work for me.
I’m just finishing up the last episode of Santa Clarita Diet. It’s funnier and smarter than I expected. Still a little too much ick for me; I’ve apparently gotten more queasy over the years!

I loved the dialogue in that show. Very witty. But yeah… There were some pretty gross scenes. I read that Timothy Olyphant got sick a bunch of times during the desert scene.
LindaLibraLoca says
Uh, I would totally wear that for a special day, but like you with my hair in a ponytail.
Erin says
I’d do it for a festival!

The sparrow is really pretty. Can you imagine taking off an athletic (like an equestrian helmet) helmet and that being there? Oh, that’d be cool. Of course, it would NEVER stay (the darned paint would just transfer to my helmet) but in a PERFECT world…
