Um, I would love to say I don’t have any or that I’m beyond such petty things, but that wouldn’t be true. My biggest issues are hyperpigmentation (dark spots on my face), acne, wrinkles (wrinkles AND acne!? WTF!?), dark circles and my weight.
My reasons for asking this today are 1) because my dark circles scared Tabs this morning and 2) because I’m bound and determined to help us find solutions to our most common concerns.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Thanks, girls, for the emails and tweets this morning about the Chilean earthquake and the tsunami warning in Hawaii. Those poor people in Chile. I can’t imagine how bad that must have been.
We spoke with our family on Oahu already (they woke up to air raid sirens!), and they’re all on high tsunami alert. El Hub’s parents live at the foot of a mountain range, though, so they should be out of reach if big waves hit the islands. They’re still stocking up on fresh water and taking other precautions in the unlikely event of power outages or sewage problems. We’ll know more in the next 20 minutes or so (waves are expected to reach Hawaii around 11:15AM PST) couple hours (waves now expected around 1PM PST).
kristen says
I hope that El Hub’s parents remain safe. I can’t imagine how terrifying it must be to wake up to air raid sirens.
I hate suffering from both acne and dry skin. I’m always trying to figure out what’s best to try and fight both of them.

I hope your family stays safe! That must be so scary for everyone there.
The beauty concern that bothers me the most is that I have a perpetually red nose 🙁

Karen,
Have you tried Clinique’s Even Better Moisturizer? I went through a couple samples from Sephora before I broke down and bought it this week.
It hasn’t broken me out, and it is supposed to even skin tone. (Acne scars and hyperpigmentation are the bane of my existence).
I have only been using it a couple weeks, but I already feel glowier. (Glowier is totally a word).

hi, karen–
where your mom in law is is definitely safe–out of the flood zone. my honey’s mom lives just out of the flood zone so she and her shiba inus went to a friends house on higher ground. where we live is quite uphill from waikiki. emergency alarms woke us at 6am & we went straight to get gas & extra canned food & water containers. lines at all stores in town as early as 6:30 am, so good thing we got our stuff as quickly as possible. all games & community events have been cancelled. people staying in waikiki and other coastal hotels have been moved to higher floors of hotels. the last tsunami took lives, especially in hilo.
we in hawaii are grateful for the good wishes from all over the world, but let’s remember this tsunami can be harmful everywhere in the pacific–even as far away as the philippines and japan. what’s happened in chile with the earthquake itself is bad enough, god bless them; this has the potential to affect half the world.
one comfort, besides having my sweetie near? i’m wearing mac empowered on my lips, and it makes me feel extra capable! =D

My biggest skin concern is dark circle. They are very dark and awful and nothing seems to cover or remove them. 🙁
That must be so scary! I hope your family stays safe!

I remember being woken up at 6 am by those civil defense sirens when I lived in Honolulu. Was absolutely surreal. Spent the next 6 hours watching tv and waiting for the waves. It was before the DART bouys were deployed so they just didn’t know it wasn’t going to be a big event. Everybody was off the roads and people had been moved to higher grounds. And we just waited for things to hit. I hope everyone across the Pacific basin is safe and the people of Chile are getting the help they need.
Which all makes my wrinkles and acne (I’m with you Karen — wtf indeed!) seem like less of an issue today.

All this news is so nerve wrecking – I am just trying to sent positive thoughts to all along the pacific coast that you all remain safe. I am glad the fam is safe! My prayers go out to all in chile. Having lost a realtive in the earthquake in Haiti recently makes me feel hyper aware to the dangers and suffering of natural disasters.
I am glad karen you are using the blog to keep yourself distracted. You have and awesome support group here and we are all connected here!!

I’m not sure I’ve read these posts in the right order (stupid google reader) but I hope your family are all safe and well.
My biggest concern at the moment is kind of a weird one. I walk to work and over here the weather is still pretty miserable. We’ve had snow and rain in the last week. Anyway, it seems that on my lower legs (mostly my skin) I’m getting serious dry skin. I’m not great at the body lotion thing, so its like I have leg dandruff (sorry, TMI!) and its really bugging me. I’ve been using Nivea Rich Moisture Body Lotion when I remember, but it doesn’t smell great although it does work. Do you have any suggestions for something that smells good and still works?
Other than that, I have the same concerns as most women: dark circles, wrinkles, fat-assery. That sorta stuff. 🙂

Dark eye circles are at the top of my list! I can’t remember a time when they didn’t exist and am still trying to find ways to hide them well, if I can’t get rid of them altogether. I also tend to sweat a lot, thanks to mom’s genes.
Hope you and your loved ones stay safe!

Hoping all your family are safe! Its odd that even my own country Australia are on tsunami watch right now, probably (most likely) very unlikely but still. Its a gloabl crisis, much like Haiti.
Back on topic, I definitely have a few flaws and imperfections, and always looking for the instant fix but I’d love to be able to find a weight that I’m happy with – I’m not expecting to ever have a lean, lithe supermodel figure but I just want to be content, physically and mentally with it. 🙂

I personally am most worry (grossed out, actually) about open/visible pore…for some reason I can tolerate the spots on my cheeks, uneven skintone (tan line during summer get pretty ridiculous during summer) but I just can’t stand pores…
Shah'ada says
and large pores.
Celine says
Glad your family is well!
So I didn’t read the directions and selected almost all the categories. Hard to choose just 5, but I’m also concerned about my huge pores!
Marie says
Karen, you’re kind and beautiful and I hope you can focus on that.
I have a chronic skin condition that is my biggest issue. Itchy, red, scaly… I’ve tried everything, but it flares up with stress, dry skin, allergic reactions, fever – it’s something I’m learning to control but it cannot be cured.
I have other beauty issues but this one is the worst.
Megan says
I didn’t select other, but one of my concerns is Milia. I’m also concerned about pore size…and black heads that come along with them.

Hope your family is fine…
You forgot one of my main beauty concerns: sensitive skin!
Cas says
Glad your family is doing okay.
As for me, acne and weight management gets my vote as these are my concerns because people can actually see them! I have some stretch marks but I figured it’s no biggie coz its only me and my husband seeing it, lol.
