I can’t be the only person out there who thought that Trader Joe’s Pecan Pie Filling in a Jar was…like…something you ate straight out of the jar. Like peanut butter?
Newsflash: you’re not supposed to do this. 🙂
I found out while sitting in my car with the jar and a plastic spoon. That’s when I read the back of the bottle and realized, much to my dismay, that you’re supposed to actually, like, ya know…mix it with stuff, like eggs and butter and pie crust, and thus, my hopes and dreams for portable pecan pie heaven were dashed. 🙁
I’m still going to try actually using this properly, though, to make an actual pecan pie with it because it sounds lovely.
Thank you to all the gals who recommended the Rainbow of Honey sampler set. I haven’t busted into it yet because the full bottles are so pretty! They’re very hefty, too. Very collectable. I think they’ll make cute little vases.
I can see them sitting on my kitchen window shelf in the summer with a single white daisy in them.
The honeys in the set are all from different parts of the world, and I think the idea is that the bees all fed on different flowers, so they’re supposed to have different flavors. I can’t wait to drizzle them on fresh fruit and try to ascertain the flavor profiles. Yum. 🙂
I also snagged a box of this Organic Hot Cocoa Mix because I’ve been craving a really good cup of hot chocolate since the mocha debacle last week…
Also, these O Tannenbaum Crispy Potato Snacks are the stuff! They taste kind of like Christmassy Pringles (i.e. festively delicious).
And I also grabbed a box of TJ’s (Bomb. Dot. Com.) Chocolate Chip Waffles, but I forgot to photograph them (here’s a good review though)…
Maybe I’m secretly keeping them away from you because I want to hoard them all to myself. Because they’re REALLY GOOD. They’re only 90 calories each, too! Of course, then I put a little peanut butter on them — just a touch — but two of them like that hold me over from breakfast till lunch.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I have to make a trip to TJs this week. I’ve allotted a small amount of grocery money for some seasonal goodies. This is a good list to start from. 🙂

What timing. The Trader Joe’s in Westfield, NJ finally reopened after
being closed for almost 2 years (the roof collapsed after a bad blizzard). I can’t wait to go back to the new , improved bigger store and get my favorites (french fries, pollo asada and really outrageous pane chocolat). I may check out some of the goodies in this blog.
Happy Holidays to all!

I noticed the goodies when I was at TJ’s last night. Too funny about the pecan pie in the jar!
I think they have the best holiday selection (for any holiday).
Enjoy your tasty treats!

Once again you’ve got me wishing there was a Trader Joe’s here in Australia!
Oh, and if you like stronger flavoured honey, see if you can get hold of Leatherwood honey from Tasmania (my home state). It’s the only place in the world the leatherwood trees grow, and the honey from the flowers is dark & quite strong & unique tasting – but I love it!
I’ve no idea if/where in the States you might be able to buy it, but if you Google leatherwood honey you’lol see some sold in decorative black tins – that’s made in Perth, Tasmania, a small town where I used to live.

I’d totally buy a pecan pie in a jar, if it really existed (maybe it does? Who knows).
Hope you’re having a good week so far!

I hardly ever get to Trader Joe’s even though it’s less than five miles away, because we’ve got a freakin’ wonderful food co-op two and a half blocks from my apartment, that has the best fresh produce, dairy, fish, bread; specialty and locally made foods; and bulk spices, nuts, beans, rice, etc… great cheese, olive oil, they make and freeze fish stock, vegetable stock, I could go on and on… and Target is in between here and TJ’s, for the things I don’t get at the co-op (some things are just so much cheaper at Target — paper and laundry products, big brand Greek yogurt, ice cream, pasta). Every time you write about it, I think I should get over there more often! But really I feel so privileged to be able to shop daily on foot for our fresh stuff. I think it helps keep us inspired to do good home cooking.

Highly recommend the soft baked gingerbread bars (they have a cute bear on the packaging). They are so good! I stocked up on like 5 boxes last time I went. I wish I saw that Rainbow of honey though! I also picked up a face mask trio in their beauty section. They are pretty nice and the price was about $10 or so!

LOVE TJ’s at the holidays. There holiday food stuff is always so good for gift giving too. I always get a box of the candy-cane Joe Joes (and I don’t even like oreos, the Joe Joes are better) and I have my eye on some peppermint bark.

I love some of this! I am still a little bummed that they did away with their sipping chocolate for the holidays. 🙁
Have you tried their new mask set? It was pricey-ish for TJ beauty picks but it looked really good to me! And it was in the holiday section so I’m guessing not a year-round offering.

I’ll have one of each, please!
