If You Could Only Wear One Eye Look For an Entire Year, What Would It Be?

Published in: Just For Fun

This one’s easy. :) That would be smoked out brown shadows on my lids with a shimmery gold in the inner corners (’cause I need all the help I can get with the whole “bright eyed” thing), a black kohl pencil on my water lines and black cat liner on my upper lash lines.

Oh! — and copious amounts of mascara, of course, on both my upper and lower lash lines.

In the pic at the top I’m wearing MAC Ricepaper Eye Shadow (my brow bones), MAC Cork Eye Shadow (crease and lower lash lines), MAC Mulch Eye Shadow (crease, lids and lower lash lines), MAC Femme Fi Eye Shadow (inner corners), Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen (upper lash lines), Urban Decay 24/7-Glide On Eye Pencil in Perversion (water lines) and Guerlain Cils D’Enfer Mascara (lashes) and MAC Brun Eye Shadow (my brows).

Wearing a few all-star brown eyeshadows from MAC’s permanent collection

For daytime, to keep it casual, I’d pair it with a glossy nude lip. Side note: my current No. 1 nude lip combo is MAC Boldly Bare Lip Pencil topped with Urban Decay Naked Lipgloss in Liar. I’m wearing it in The Fab 5: BECCA Cosmetics and Hourglass Cosmetics videos. Try it some time!

And for a date night/going-out version, just add bright pink, coral or red lips. :)

Now what about you? If you could only wear one eye look (every day) for an entire year, what would it be?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Good morning, gorgeous! Since we’re on the subject of eye looks…I’m obsessed with this one I saw on urbandecay.com.

Check it:

I’m all about that metallic shimmer, those “BA-BAM!” brows and those long, luscious lashes…

So quiet. So bold.

Wait — quietly bold…?

Anywho, I’ve been awake since forever (roughly 5:00 a.m.) on account of this particular thug:

Cranky tabby!

I have NO idea what’s going on in that little kitty brain, but every day this week, he’s jumped up on the bed, plopped down on my chest, and kicked on the purr machine at exactly 5 o’clock.

And if I fail to start petting him immediately, he repositions himself with his tum across my neck…like a 20-pound tabby scarf, LOL!

It’s funny now, but it wasn’t very funny at 5 a.m.

Yep, you know cats. There is no method to their madness.

I hope things are most excellent on your end of the keyboard. How’s your week going so far?

My favorite everyday eye look is: I would go with MAC’s All that Glitters all over the lid and MAC’s Quarry in the crease

BUT, I would go with the look below because it’s natural enough for everyday wear, but packs enough punch to be glam for a special event.

MAC Rubenesque paint pot all over the lid, then UD Half Baked all over the paint pot and then UD Naked in crease to soften the look and to make blending easier, UD Smog in crease for actual definition, and then UD Darkhorse in the outer corner. I’d use MAC’s Jaunty from the Hey, Sailor collection as a highlight and UD Smog 24/7 eyeliner.

  2. Shannon says:

Oh man! The same eye look for an ENTIRE YEAR??? That would be so hard! I’m getting dizzy just thinking about it!

    Hmm, let’s see… If I HAD to choose…
I’ve been *hella* crushing on the 1st Naked Palette for the last few weeks, so I think I would go for an look from that palette. Naked on the lid, maybe Smog (or Sidecar? not sure which one I’d like better!) in the crease, virgin in the corner of the eye and on the brow bone, and then Darkhorse for the liner (lining the outer half of my eye on top & bottom, connecting them w/ a *slight* cat-eye tip at the outer corners). Some fatty black mascara like… hm, maybe Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash, or MUFE Smoky Lash?

  3. Bee says:

I’m thinking black kohl, smudged with NARS galapagos all ver the lid to the crease with satin taupe & kid in the crease. kitten liner & tons of mascara

lips : mac brave during the day and RiRiWoo at night!

  4. Natalie says:

Honestly, I would pick what you did. I love a good brown smokey eye. It goes with everything and you can dress it up or down. I love the one you did here! It’s gorgeous.

I would probably use UD shadows, just because I have more of them than MAC. Half baked, naked, smog, buck and dark side would work really nicely. Maybe some foxy for under the brow bone.

  5. Clara says:

I would go with a flawless face, peachy pink blush, black eyeliner on the upper lashline, mascara and lip balm. It’s basicly what I wear every day (except for the eyeliner) because of my job.

  6. Cassy says:

Oh Tabs, no one needs to be seeing 5am.

If I had to pick one look for the year, it would be green lids with a purple crease, winged out black liner and lots of mascara. I’m obviously very sensible in my choice.

  7. Well, that’s hard. I guess just matte neutrals and heavy winged eyeliner.

Wow..I love that Urban Decay eye makeup!!!! My go-to would be brown eyeshadow and black liner :D

  10. Jax says:

A cool toned light smoky eye with black tightlining, lots of Mascara and lightly defined eyebrows:
-either NARS Lhasa and 413 Blkr
or Laura Mercier Grey Pearl and Twilight
Probably leaning to the Laura Mercier because it is so budgeproof
    -Mac fluidline in Blacktrack
    -DiorShow waterproof in Black
    -Mac Lingering and clear Browset

  11. Kim says:

Is this a trick question? I think I’ve worn the same eye look for the last 10 years. HAHA! Seriously, though, yours is lovely. Mine is just UD whiskey – thick, with edges smudged on the top lash line and as thin and close to the bottom lash line as possible. Faux Cils on the top lashes only. Quick and easy. :)

    • Karen says:

NICE. I like this type of makeup too, especially when I’m in a hurry. I know you loooove UD Whiskey, but how about Bourbon?

      • Kim says:

I really like Bourbon, as well. That was an awesome rec from you, as always! I tend to wear it more in the summer or if I’m going somewhere in the evening and want a little extra sparkle. :) It can’t be my every day because the glitter sometimes bothers my eyes. And if I accidentally rub them, forget about it!

I almost forgot it was Friday – have a great weekend!! :)

  12. Ruchita says:

I would do a brown smokey-ish eye, black liner, mascara. I would keep the blush and lips neutral.

I love the look you did in those pics! Thanks for sharing the shadows you used. I’d like to try it myself.

Mingy is another 5 AM type of cat. He’s too much of a tough boy to cuddle, so he just jumps on and off the bed. Repeatedly. Then he’ll try and knock stuff off the night stand. No problem for him b/c he sleeps all day! :-)

  13. Noon says:

It’s have to be my “go-to” eye look from my UD naked palette: Smog on lids, Darkhorse in crease & outer eye, little bit of Half-Baked on the inner lid. I’m actually not much of an eyeshadow girl but Smog has become my favorite shadow of all time.

Also this is funny to me cause I see the comments about being quite difficult but my mother has worn the same eyelook ever since I can remember…and I’m 23 by now! (I can’t even convince her to let me change it up and do her makeup for her, haha.)

  14. Definitely a smokey eye, and I’d probably go for olive green or mossy green with darker chocolatey brown.

  16. dianne says:

Great question and looooove your look!

I too love a brown smokey eye!

I would start with MAC paint pot in quite natural on lids. Top with MAC mulch. MAC saddle as my transission shade. NARS bengali in my crease. MAC ricepaper as highlight for brows and inner corner. NARS coconut grove as my shadow liner on upper and lower lids (water line bare)

Lips either MAC Viva glam 5 or touch for day. And for night a pop of hot pink lipstick!

  17. Mysty says:

I totes Love your kitty :)

I would have to go with a neutral eye with a bright crayon eye liner. Although, I do love bright fabulous colors too. I can’t give up my color!!

  18. Sylirael says:

SNAP! I too have been moderately obsessed with that NAKED ad eye look. I want to give it a try !

Hm…I think it would probably be matte neutral shadows and brown eyeliner with a good mascara on curled lashes! Something that gives my eyes some definition, but can be worn under pretty much all circumstances!

Favourite brown liner: UD 24/7 liner in Demolition!
    Favourite Mascara: Dior Iconic Overcurl!

First, I will cry a lot and then I will Choose a brown smoky eyes with Smocked Ruby by MAC, Shroom in the inner corner and Sable on the crease ^^ !!

  20. Ellie says:

I’m obsessed with that UD look and I can’t find out what products they used or I’d snatch them all up quickfastandinahurry! My current everyday look is Bobbi Brown’s Bronze stick as a base, topped with MAC’s Tempting. Bronzy-brown is where it’s at!

  21. Jo says:

I definitely definitely have to wear a light colour on the inner corners if I’m wearing a medium or darker shade eyeshadow. Well actually, I have to have a light colour over most of the eye!

This looks lovely on you x

WOw, an entire year? I would have to do a “nude” eye. Something light on the brow, medium shade of (tan?taupe?wheat?) in the crease, a satiny champagne on the center of my lid, a dark brown/black/pewter on the lashes at the outer corner – black liner on top – lots of mascara on top and bottom lashes.

THis is basically my eye but enhanced and then I can wear ANY color lippie I want – cause Goddess knows I’d be screamin’ for some color.

I really like the girl who said she’d wear green and purple – YOU ARE MY HERO! lol If I were younger I’d pick something equally crazy but at my age it’s more about camo than drawing attention to. LMAO!

THe Boosh has Tabs beat – she’s up at 4am but that’s why there is “el hub”. I’m no nutjob. LMAO (I love all you early risers – somebody has to make the coffee.) :-D

  23. Sunny says:

Hey Karen, you totally rock this look! LOVE. IT! I am admiring the glossy finish of the TF liner. I really have to resist though! I have a hunch that it will open a dangerous door for me ;)

My look would also be a brown soft smoky eye….mac all that glitters on lid, ricepaper on inner corners and browbone, saddle and folie /saddle and brownscript in crease, UD bourbon liner smoked out under eyes and on outer edge of upper lids, two coats of black volumizing mascara/chanel le volume. For night……line waterline w/stila black kajal liner. Definitely w/ a pale lip…..mac blankety or siss and chanel futile glossimer gloss.

  25. Danielle says:

Definitely something simple and gold – I could go with just MAC Woodwinked and nothing else haha.

I’d go super easy – MAC Rubenesque paint pot as a base, MAC Grain all over the lid and MAC Era in the crease. Rubenesque really helps light up the eyes!

  29. lyn says:

My eye makeup is pretty much the same on most work days, which is a smoky brown or grey look. I love how you’ve done yours and can see why this would be a staple for an entire year :-)

    I’d choose a smokey eye look. :)
It’d make wearing bolder lip colours a challenge but I think I’d be able to pull it off.

  31. Jay says:

You mean I have to choose?!?! If it came down to it mine would be a very similar look to yours (I adore that look! Might have to try it out) or the one that never fails me:

Maybelline color tattoo in bad to the bronze applied sheerly under a primer, with UD smog in the crease and outer v, and UD naked/mac kid (I am so mad they discontinued kid!) to blend out the upper crease. Then just a bit of inglot 395 (similar to mac nylon) in the inner corner and a black classic winged liner. Then mascara ahoy.

My favorite blush is a bit of tarte exposed or mac dolly mix, (or nars torrid for summer, since the eye is neutral enough) – but if it absolutely came down to it I’d rock dolly mix all year round. im not a big lipstick wearer so mac boy bait lipgloss for day and twig lipstick for night.
