So how do we feel about the unicorn beauty trend happening now?
In case you haven’t noticed, unicorns have been spotted behind many makeup counters lately. It’s a whole trend. There’s even a unicorn-themed collection happening over at Tarte right now…
And a while back Too Faced released a lipstick called Unicorn Tears. There’s also a beauty brand called Unicorn Snot (!).
They’re everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Which is a weird thing for a creature that has generally been quite rare…
To me, “unicorn beauty” means all things glitter, holographic and rainbow, and it’s on point right now in makeup, hair and nails.
I’d like to know how you feel about this, because I’m totally conflicted. The part of me that believes that Rainbow Dash is my soulmate is obviously into it, but then another, equally compelling part of me thinks, “I’m a 40-something lady and a mom. Do I really need to revert to the same look I wore to raves in the ’90s?”
Neither side has yet to win this debate. I’m still deliberating. 🙂
For me, I think it’s fun in touches here and there, like a holographic lip, but I gotta be careful not to go overboard.
The unicorn beauty trend — give me your thoughts.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I think we need to pack as much fun into our lives as possible so I’m fine with it. Even though I’m a 40’s something lady myself.
One of my favorite Urban Decay lipsticks is called Unicorn. I like to think that it’s because the color is a really unique blend of pink and peach.
Hope you and Connor Claire are having a good day. I’m about to go stuff myself with the best grilled chicken nachos I’ve ever eaten 🙂

As a lover of all things fantasy and sparkly I’m definitely into it. It’s a fun way to express ones self, and I’m also loving the “make everything sparkly” trend because it feels like a nice counterbalance to the “make everything matte” trend that was happening for awhile.

I have been a unicorn since way long before the latest “unicorn beauty” trend.
And i will still be a unicorn after the trend is over.

I haven’t really tried this trend on, but I think it looks cool! I will always be down with sparkle on the eyes, a glow on the skin and holo on nails =) Gotta see what Unicorn Snot is all about lol!

I think its fun just not for me personally. I’m not huge when it comes to ton of color. I stick to neutrals.

I’m in my seventies so take this with a grain of salt. I think the unicorn trend is cute–on young girls! Because it’s playful and childlike in its wonder, it is better suited to teens and young woman indulging in a bit of fantasy. It seems to me, though, to be terribly silly on a middle-aged or older woman. Each generation should have something fun to call its own and that’s how I feel about all the unicorn stuff. It’s for this current crop of girls and young women. Women of my age are better served by looks that are elegant and sophisticated. BTW, I bought a set of unicorn brushes for my 15 year old niece and she was thrilled with them 🙂

Why not? I wouldn’t do it myself but if someone was out there in these streets rocking unicorn makeup, I would go up to them and say it was awesome.
Rachel says
I think I would mostly wear something like this on my nails, or perhaps an iridescent highlighter on the cheeks.

I love it in packaging but the products aren’t for me. I’m older and like a classic look. Small doses on the right person can be just MAGICAL!!

There’s never any such thing as “too old” to enjoy something that you enjoy 🙂 So GET INTO IT if you like it!

I adore the Unicorn packaging. But not sure I can still rock all the glitter. In my heart, yes, but not on my eyelids. 😉

I couldn’t NOT get those Tarte brushes and the new palette. Like, it wasn’t physically possible to resist. I got the HL too, but I didn’t NEED that like I NEEDED the brushes 😉

I love it, personally. I’m into glitter, shimmers, colors, etc. I love myths and fantasy, and have collected unicorns since I was a little girl. The unicorn look can be done in a grown-up way, and I have fun with it.
Although, if I worked in a conservative office or something, I’d save the unicorn look for the weekends.

Don’t forget the unicorn tears primer… IDK I like crazy fantasy stuff but it just seems like another way to sell products.

I love the whole unicorn trend to look at, but honestly, I’m not sure I’ll get much wear out of mega holographic unicornesque products! Not my everyday jam!

Unicorn stuff gets a big “yay” from me! I love me a subtle unicorn – you know, some rainbow brushes, or a sheer highlighter with a rainbow holo effect. All of the fun without any of the ’80s vibes!

I have been too old for the unicorm stuff back in the 90s when I went to raves, so there is no way I am buying into it now. I can’t even deal with Too Faced heart packaging on my desk, unicorn anything is just too much for me.
Plus they are said to prefer virgins, so I am out.

I still love unicorns and I’m in my early 30s. 🙂 I think adding fun to make-up (and life in general) is totally fine, for all ages! Nostalgia makes people feel good. But in the end, it’s all about personal preference anyway. I bought most of the Tarte collection but I wasn’t going to buy the teal lipstick… because to me, that’s “overboard.” It just wouldn’t suit me. But I like that it’s available for other people to experiment with because other people can definitely pull it off! What Tarte did with this collection was kind of genius – they appealed to a younger audience and also an older audience (who are kids at heart and/or nostalgic) at the same time. Smart marketing.
Two things I’m kind of sick of in the make-up world are highlighters (seriously, everyone owns EVERY shade now – please move on to the next fad! *ducks the punches*) and metallic lips (which I actually don’t think look good at all). So I just ignore those things now, but they’ll be around as long as companies are making money. Same goes for unicorns. So no matter what any of us think, it’s futile to complain anyway, right? Haha.

It’s funny you say this because we just finalized display art for a Rainbow & Unicorn product. I was so pleased to hear that it was trendy! 🙂 As for the makeup, I say people who like it should go for it. I’m way too boring in my makeup to be a part of the trend myself but it looks fun!

I love it in all its glory and we need access to it for things like festivals fun parties concerts or whatever. But i wish there were a more wearable practice version . Maybe gold or brown based products with iridescence. THAT would b the best of both worlds
