this is amazing!!!! my fave trick is using a tissue as a straight edge

I love primers because eye-shadow would never stay put on my face before. I have very dry skin but my lids get oily … then sometimes they get dry. Primers take the guesswork out of it. Another thing I do is try to pack the bulk of the colour onto the lid and blend from there, rather than applying any shadow directly above the lid. This gives a more blended look. 🙂
Y Shum says
hi! i would love to enter here. my favorite trick is to top an eyeliner with eyeshadow. It sets the eyeliner and also you can change the color slightly to make it something unique.
Sha says
I like body and soul and lancome’s eyeshadow brushes. They are very soft.

Sarah says
my eyeshadow tricks with loose shadows or even pressed eyeshadow is to…
gather a little bit of shadow on my brush and spritz MAC Fix + on the brush with the shadow already on it, and then apply to the lid.
I feel like the Fix + makes the shadows’ colors come out more and is more concentrated. This trick works miracles with pigments, loose glitter & even this awesome Bare Minerals kit you are giving away!!
Lisa S. says
I’m 40 something and I’ve been loving and wearing makup for a long time, but somehow didn’t start using a shadow primer till about a year ago. So for me if they stopped making Too Faced Shadow Insurance I would just have to break down and cry!
Ann Marie says
I love MAC’s Prep and Prime for lids! Never, ever leave the house without it in case I need to touch up. Makes the eyeshadow look as good as it did first thing in the A.M.!
ellie says
For a cat eye, I use gel eyeliner but instead of extending the tip really far out with the gel liner, I use a small angled brush and black eyeshadow to extend the tip out a little. That way, it’s not a super extreme line, but a more subtle cat eye I can wear to work.
.-= ellie’s last blog post… The Christmas List =-.
Melia says
My favorite eyeshadow brush is a small domed blending brush from a drugstore company. I also swear by my eyeshadow primer from ArtDeco, it keeps everything in place all day, even in if I start crying.
(Have re-tweeted, Twitter: Kmelia)
Carly says
Whenever I use eyeshadow (more than just a single color on the lid) I put my liner down FIRST- then I do everything else. Finally, again after the other shadows are done, I put down another layer of liner. This way, the liner will be on all day, even if the rest of the shadow fades away, which allows me to still look put together, even 12 hours later.
Roxanne says
Set e/s with a base (UDPP, you know I’m talking to you). Use brushes! A shader and blending brush are NECESSARY! It’s not a want, it’s a need. Get good quality e/s as well.
Don’t just randomly pick out colors for your eyes, keep your face in mind. Know your eye shape. Always remember… Practice. Makes. Perfect.
And my #1 rule: never – and I mean NEVURRR – leave the house without mascare when you’re wearing e/s or e/l. It just looks unfinished (as in “I think I’m just going to wear blush on my right cheek today.”). Oh, and remember to have fun with it of course! 🙂
Briana says
I’ve been using Quo brushes lately and I love them. I love their cream eyeshadow brush, its stiff and thin enough to use wet to line eyes with shadows, but big enough to blend everything together well when its dry!
.-= Briana’s last blog post… Race segregated schools… =-.
Beth says
My favourite eye shadow trick is for powders/pigments.
To reduce fallout I apply them with a sponge applicator rather than a brush. You still get the intensity of colour, just not all over your face!
P.S. How fabulous is the name “Bunny” for a lipgloss shade. Love it!

My favorite eyeshadow brush is the MAC 217, fo’ sho!
Janelle says
My favorite eyeshadow brush is MAC’s 217! I can use the broad side of it to pat color on the center of my lid OR right into my tear duct. Alternatively, I can use the tip to put the perfect amount of color in my crease!
tatiana says
Oh, I loved my Lancome #17 eye shadow brush. And, I lost it….. :::Bwah::
Marian says
My favorite eyeshadow trick is to place a dab of light colored shimmery or glittery shadow on the very center of my upper lid. It really opens up my small eyes.
Shiny says
My trick is the same as yours Karen – using UDPP! Primer was life changing for me, suddenly my makeup would last all day, and it opened a whole new world of blending colours too, since shadow no longer would migrate and end up as a thick glob of colour in the crease!
Ash says
When I’m using a really dark eyeshadow and I know there’s no way to avoid fallout, I pat a generous amount of powder all under my eyes. Then after I’m done with my eyes, I can just brush away the powder, and along with it goes the shadow fallout. And my favorite eyeshadow brush is one by Sonia Kashuk. I’ve had it for a few years, but it blends perfectly.
knownever says
I never used to do this but I love to use a cream shadow under my powder shadow and liner to give a deeper, smokier effect. when it comes to brushes a sephora travel set is all i have
.-= knownever’s last blog post… Twins: The Less List =-.
Jenny says
My “trick” is to use primer potion (either the original UDPP or in sin) all over my lids and even below my eye to bot only brighten it but for lower lashline colors
Katie says
I am sure I’d been told a million times to use a primer, finally started regularly doing it a month ago, wow what a difference!
breeann says
My favorite eye shadow brush is a fluffy blender from Flirt! Cosmetics. I have fairly deep-set eyes and that fluffy brush loaded with a pale golden shadow really brightens them up and makes them pop without making it too shimmery. I love it!
.-= breeann’s last blog post… My big bloggy plans… =-.
Spiff says
With my tiny, Asian eyes, I actually like using the spongy applicators for eyeshadow! The color is more vibrant and fits my shape better 🙂
Roxan J says
what i love to do lately is if i want my eyeshadow to pop, i get some on my brush and then spritz with my spray (just water in a spray bottle) and spray the brush lightly and then apply the shadow on my lids
Carolyn says
My fave trick is to apply a really light translucent powder under my eyes before I start any application. It highlights but also catches all the fall-out and you can just blend/brush it all away when you’re done!
.-= Carolyn’s last blog post… Petit Break… =-.
Christina says
If I’m running late (which means most mornings), I just swipe some highlighter across my eyelids and suddenly look awake and like I care about life. If I’m out of primer, it also works well under shadow for helping it stick a little longer.
Sherry B. says
You’re not going to believe this, but my favorite eyeshadow brush is one that I STILL have that came with the original Maybelline Ultra Shadow ( the very FIRST powder eye shadow to come out in the 1960’s)!!! Yeah, I’m THAT old! lol!!! I have a whole collection of brushes from high-to low-end, but nothing beats that little red-handled brush. For some reason, it’s just the perfect size and density to do anything that I command it to do. If I EVER lost it, I would probably BE lost myself!
Cee says

Miriam says
My favorite eyeshadow brush would definitely have to be the 217! It’s perfect for applying a wash of color, applying your crease color, and blending different eyeshadows together!
Jane says
my favorite eyeshadow brush is old lancome one i have from my mom. she got the whole brush set but never used it so she gave them to me! Maybe I like it so much because thats really like the only one i’ve used lol
Emily says
My favorite trick is to draw the line for liquid liner first with pencil, then go over it!
christina says
i do that too! (: really does help in staying power!
Jenna says
I could not live without the 217! I used to suck at blending, but it really makes blending idiot-proof. Harsh lines/edges are gone in seconds. I love i!
Fatima says
My favorite eyeshadow brush is MAC’s 217 blending brush and my trick is layering eyeshadow, as in “apply, blend, re-apply, blend”.
nikki says
when im out of primer i always use a whiteish shade of eyeshadow that works to keep my shadow in place 🙂
Brittany says
217 and 224–what did I do without them in my life? I’ll tell you what, I was going many years without even understanding the concept of blending, let alone using multiple shadows!
Stacy Z says
I use eyeshadow primer!
Charis says
I a,m a bare mineral fan! I use Sephora small eyeshadow brush all the time. I like the precision of it!
Nicole says
I like to use Benefit’s F.Y.Eye primer. Using a primer has to be one of the most important steps in eyeshadow application.
Molly says
My favorite eyeshadow brush is the everyday minerals eyeshadow brush! Thanks for the contest!
Lisa says
I guess my trick is practice! I like to play with looks at night before I take my makeup off, so that way I get a chance to try brighter looks than I would normally wear.
Tuhina says
I have the worst luck with eye shadow, it creases and fades very quickly. So, I pat MAC Paint Pot all over my lid before applying any shadows… and it dramatically increases wear time!
Lisha says
Primer potion & dusting a little similar colored eyeshadow over my liner seems to work the best for keeping my semi oily lids from getting too creased.
amy says
I don’t have a fav technique, but my fave brush is a BE duel ended brush, slanted liner on one end, angled eye shadow on the other.
Camille says
I love using MAC paint in Bare Canvas as a primer. It’s such a gorgeous wash of shimmer and it brightens up all my eyeshadows! I also make sure to clean my brushes almost everyday – it makes such a difference!
Danielle says
I love using Smashbox’s “limited lid” as a primer. I’m not sure if it’s intended as a primer, but it works better that UDPP for me and it has a beautiful bronze color to it. Unfortunately, I’ve been unable to find it at Sephora. I bought it yeaaaars ago. I should probably throw it away, but it’s too pretty.
DiAni says
Soft brown eye shadow into my crease, outer V and slightly under eye to enhance my eyes and MAC’s 217.
Kristy glass says
Lately I have layered 3 shadows in the same color family. 3 shades of green light on lids to dark in the crease.
Holly G says
I love to apply MAC paint pot in Bare Study to the inner corners of my eyes with my pinky finger to add some shimmer. This works with almost any color combo I dream up!
Sarah V says
I seriously love my E.L.F. eyeshadow brush! It’s nice and dense and I haven’t had any problems with shedding. Also, a few months ago I tried an eyeshadow primer for the first time and I was amazed at how much more vibrant my eyeshadow was and how much longer it lasted.
Kypris says
I use MAC paint Bare Canvas as a ‘primer’ of sorts as it’s neutral and slightly brightening, as well as slightly shimmery. Can’t go wrong with it! It helps the eyeshadows stick and last longer, and often brightens their colours.
Nina says
I don’t use primers because I wear eyeshadows on rare occasions. I just prime my lids with concealer and set it with powder. Works fine for me!
Jess says
Whenever I wear eyeshadow, it either creases or looks chalky. So I compromise by wearing an Origins primer all over my lid and nothing else. Works for me, though I’d love to eventually get the shadow thing down!
Nicole says
Mac’s 217 brush is my fav! you can use it to apply color on the lid, the crease, and the highlight! it is definitely a must have!
Carolina says
Start with my UDPP or some neutral colored foundation!
Tuesday says
I’m not huge into eyeshadow, but when I wear it, I like bright whites. They make you look so awake!
Rae says
My trick starts like yours (primers are essential imo!) but I also love to foil my shadows — it makes them show up so much more intensely, and last longer.
.-= Rae’s last blog post… On the topic of: love =-.
Rachel says
My favorite brush is by e.l.f. and only $1 !! its surprisingly very soft.
T says
My favorite eyeshadow brush is from the drugstore. I don’t even recall the name of it but it is really useful when applying e/s.
Ashley says
My favorite eyeshadow brush has got to be by Posh. All of their brushes are great! I use tape to outline my eyes & to reduce fall out under my eyes. And before all, I use concealer to prime my eyes!
.-= Ashley’s last blog post… Almost December! =-.
Melissa says
I do not have a very defined crease line so I find that when I start with a very dark colour moving to a lighter colour as I reach my brow bone, my eyes appear larger.
vandana says
sonia kashuk crease brush! best buy of my makeup life =)
JEnnyWhiskey says
I have expensive taste in brushes and smashbox by far are my favorite. The angled brow brush is so precise it’s un freakin believable
Marisa says
Hmm…my favorite e/s application tequnique, well I like to take my angled eye liner brush, wet it a little, and draw a ‘almond’ shape extending it a little past my lid and then fill it in ( I don’t really know how to explain it, it’s something an Aveda m/a showed me ^^;)
but it looks soooo nice 😀
Mimi S says
My best eyeshadow trick – using primer underneath. I got sample of the NARS primer and I am liking that so far, but I also want to try UD’s famous primer!
Sandy Dibbell says
My favorite brush is one I got in a LE travel set by MAC last December. Unfortunately the red paint chipped off the handle almost immediately so I have no idea what number it is, but I don’t know how I ever lived without it. This is coming from a girl who for years used her fingers or a Q tip to apply shadow and wondered why it always sucked!
Aly says
I love to use a sponge applicator to really bring out the colour of an eyeshadow! Then I use Sonia Kashuk’s blending brush–no more harsh lines! I also always add a shimmery white or gold eyeshadow in the corners of my eyes. It brightens my face and look up a lot.
Katie says
I always use an eyeshadow primer before applying my eyeshadow, usually UDPP and my eyeshadow never creases! My favourite eyeshadow brushes would probably be the Sigma SS224 and SS252, I don’t even own any MAC brushes! And my favourite trick would probably be applying a light shimmery shadow to the inner corner of my eyes, I find it really brightens them up and makes me look more awake =)
CC says
I usually just apply eyeshadow with my finger or whatever brush came with the kit, but I recently started using e.l.f.’s eyeshadow brush. I heard it was good quality considering it’s only $1. I’m pretty happy with it so far.
shivotra says
my favorite is to put black shadow on an angled brush and layer it on top of black eyeliner to get an extra dramatic effect 🙂
annatweetweet says
I use my creamy concealer as primer, then line eyes with smooth pencil, followed by liquid eyeliner. lazy weekend
Paige says
I love the MAC 226 – absolutely perfect for my crease! I was always a one-color eyeshadow girl before I discovered this brush (during the BBR collection) – so much dimension now!! LOVE it!
Sara says
my biggest trick is to put on loose powder under my eyes so when i do dark looks(especially with loose eye shadow) like for a smokey eye the fall out can fall right on the loose powder then you can just brush off the loose powder later after you’re done applying the eye shadow! greatest trick ever!!!!

i love my Benefit shadow/line brush =)

Can’t live w/out e/s brush: MAC 239!
1. Layer of UDPP
2. If you’re doing a look that allows for a LOT of blending, a trick is to dust on some skin colored e/s before putting on the colors — this will be SO much easier when it comes to blending. Since UDPP sticks to the e/s you put on, it’s fairly hard to move around (imo).
3. When finished, spray on MAC fix+ or Shu Uemura’s facial mist to set the look!
Peggy says
My favorite brush is Mac 217 , also sonia kashuk angle eyeliner , the best tip is using an angle eyeliner to get the best winged eyeliner =] , and ofcourse apply UDPP beforehand !
Brittany says
My eyeshadow trick is to blend as if i was shading a sketch of mine on actual paper. Just slowly, slowly, and lightly until a get the desired effect 🙂
isabella531 says
between my 217 brush and using any type of primer on my lids before applying loose pigments, those are my eye makeup musts!
Kate & Zena says
My favorite application is to “push” the eyeshadow onto the lid, not sweet it onto the lid, to decrease the amount of fallout.
Shao says
I use the eyeshadow brush in the Ecotools 6-pc set as well as the brushes in the Costco 2009 brush set, and they’re all great c: I actually just ordered the ELF Mineral Eyeshadow Primer which has been getting rave reviews, so fingers crossed!
christina says
love the mac 217 .. it’s so versatile . i can apply and blend with that brush!
i used urban decay primer potion, then mac paint pot in soft ochre for a base every time
Courtney says
Cool giveaway! I don’t like my eye makeup to be too harsh-looking for everyday wear, so I actually layer the lighter “base” color over the lid/crease colors to tone them down and then blend.
Lauren S. says
I use one piece of toilet paper under my eye, so I don’t get eye shadow on my cheeks… it does wonders!
Hailey says
I use damp sponge applicators to make my eyeshadow more vibrant! When I look tired and want to look more awake, I use a white eyeliner on my waterline and in the inner corners of my eyes.
Tracey says
my only application of eyeshadow i do is to put some type of creamy base under and lightly dust eyeshadow over so it sticks! not too out of the ordinary! thanks for this giveaway!!!
Jennyfer H. says
I swear at my MAC 272! hahaha kidding. but yeah, it’s a great brush, very soft, and yet, not too soft. I like using it to deposit the eyeshadow on my whole lid. but, I use it to draw my crease (I dont have creeases on my eyes) and it works perfectly for me! 😀
actually, I think that I can do pretty much everything with it. I mean, it’s even good for applying the highlighter under my eyebrows! it smudges the eyshadow easy and softly. love it. hahaha
Jennyfer H. says
SORRY, I mean I swear *BY my MAC 272. lol
karen c says
I wear mac’s paint pot in painterly to start my eyeshadow process. it really helps my eyeshadows to stay longer and prevents my eyelids from getting oily. never go a day without it!
pinksoysauce says
This is probably an obvious one, but I always curl my lashes before applying eyeshadow. Otherwise, I get gold and silver flesks all over my Shu.
Rebecca says
Gotta agree with you here Karen – I only discovered eye shadow primer fairy recently, and it was life-changing I tell you!
.-= Rebecca’s last blog post… Stila Lip Glaze Collection – Review & Swatches =-.
Sandy says
I like to dap a bit of loose power under my eyes before I put on my eyeshadow and mascara, so any “mess-ups” can be dusted awat.
Theresa says
I usually have the worst luck with getting eyeshadow to stay on all day. Consequently, I either use an eyeshadow primer or I use Benefit creaseless cream shadows, which always seem to stay put.
Brittany says
My favorite brush is actually the BE double ended brush. I got it in a kit, but I use it pretty much every day.
Yao says
My favorite eyeshadow brush right now is probably the one I got with my EcoTools set from Target. It’s incredibly soft and picks up a lot of pigment with one swipe!
Samantha says
I usually start off all my neutral looks with painterly paint pot.
Lauren says
Great giveaway! I’ve been a long time lurker and I figured now was as good a time as ever to come out of hiding. My favorite trick is using a clean lip brush instead of an eyeliner brush for my gel and moistened mineral liner. It’s my favorite way to get a really clean cat eye.
Megan says
I put Benefit’s Booing concealer on my lids & then go to town with the shadows of my choice! Works every time 🙂
Rachel says
I use a little Benefit High Beam underneath the brow bone and voila! It looks like I got a full 8 hours.
Jennifer says
My favourite eye shadow brush is the 219 by M.A.C. My trick for eye makeup is to use a primer or cream shadow as a base and to set my eyeliner with a matching shade of eye shadow.
Valentine says
I use Ecotools’ eyeshadow brush and love it–so cheap and easy to clean! Plus it does a great job of applying shadow.
Halifax says
I haven’t branched out to any kind of primer except the one I got from my mineral makeup company, but agree that primer does make a difference. I also use cream shadow as a base to pop the main colour a bit more
sue says
MAC 217 is my favorite!
Katie says
I love to dust a translucent loose powder under my eyes when applying dark pigments on my eyes. The fall out lands on the powder and when you are done you just use a large powder brush and dust off both the loose powder and fall out from the eyeshadow. No more raccoon like eyes that require fixing your base.
Ann says
Looks like totally wearable colors! would love to win this!!
Jenn says
I like to cover my eyelids with concealer first before putting on any eyeshadows– either that or a fleshy colored Paint Pot, like Soft Ochre.
Cat says
When I’ve finished doing an eyeshadow look and decide it’s too dramatic or bold, I put a light layer of a gold eyeshadow (lately it’s been Urban Decay’s “Half-baked”) over all the eyeshadow and it makes it shimmery AND tones down the crazy colour.
vanessa says
i like to use dark, plummy shadow as a liner on the outer 1/3 of my top lashline.
vnssa906 says
my favorite eyeshadow application trick? apply eyeshadow with your finger!!! I tend to do this when i’m in a rush, but it really does work wonders. I think my shadow lasts a bit longer if I plop it on with my ring finger 🙂
Stacy says
I usually put my eye liner on after applying shadow. It helps the liner to stay in place.
Mary says
My favorite trick right now is using Benefit Creaseless cream shadow in honey or recess on its own, with a more bare face. It brightens up my eyelids a lot, with minimal effort!
Wendy says
My favorite trick is for when I’m doing an evening smokey eye… If I’m using purple and black, for example, I will take one of the midtoned colors I used and apply it on the lower lash line blended with a bit of black. I generally keep the black mild as I have small eyes. I love doing this with metallic or slightly glittery shadows, it makes your eyes super sultry and sexy!

I have multiple eyeshadow brushes, one from Mac, one from Smashbox, and one from Clinique. I really only use the one from Mac. I’m not good with eyeshadow so I just smudge one eyeshadow over my entire lid and hope that it looks okay!
Carol L says
I love my MAC 266 eyeshadow brush. I have smaller eyelids, so this brush works well for my crease.
Debbie says
I definitely agree with using a finger to apply eyeshadow, especially when I’m running late!
Morgan says
I just recently stumbled upon 2 dome brushes (a smallish/medium size and a small pencil brush). They are my favorite, and really allow me to be creative. The bonus is: 2/$5 at CVS!!! Essence of Beauty. Awesome!
.-= Morgan’s last blog post… What’s in my bag ^ =-.
Gaby says
I use my finger to apply eyeshadow because you can control the color as well as gain more pigmentation without using as much color, also using a crease brush to blend and an angle brush to apply liner, create a great smokey look!
Ka says
My favorite eyeshadow brush is the eco tool eyeshadow brush… I like it because it’s very soft…
Carolyn says
Instead of paying for setting liquids to transform powder shadows to a liner, I dip my angled brush into a little bit of contact lens solution. It holds better than water and is less likely to smudge.
Melissa Nice says
When I’m really tired, I apply Benefit EyeBright on my water lines and blend it in inner and outer corners of my eyes, then apply UDPP and Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Recess. It evens out blotchiness and tiredness even when I only have a few minutes to get ready.
Jane says
My fave trick for the outer end so that shadows give a almond shape is to stick a cellophane tape in a diagonal angle upwards…you can then put shadows and if it goes over the cellophane dont worry about the shape..then remove the tape and blend..voila..beautiful shadows !!!
Nadine says
Fyrinnae’s Pixie Epoxy sandwiched in between eyeshadow primer and the eyeshadow minimizes glittery fallout!
Gracie says
I love the MAC 217 brush and the SS224, they work SO well to blend eyeshadows. The loew cornell dupe for the MAC 239 brush works really well to pack on eyeshadow colors, and I don’t feel the need to shell out the cash for the MAC one.
Lydia says
My favorite eyeshadow brush trick is to use an eyeliner brush to clean up nail polish mistakes 🙂
Amber says
My MAC 224 is probably my fav!
Kristal says
My favorite brushes are from Sonia Kashuk. They are affordable, and really do a great job.
Cheska says
My favorite eyeshadow brush is my Essence of Beauty blending brush which I got at CVS. It’s soft, gets the job done, and is super affordable compared to other “higher-end” brushes. ^_^
liz says
my favorite trick is to wet an eyeliner brush and then dip in in black MAC eyeshadow and then line my eyes with the eyeshadow. much easier to apply and blend then pencil eyeliner
Sheila says
I am currently using Loreal eyeshadow brush. But currently bought some Bare Minerals products since I have a sensitive oily skin…now, I would love to try this one. For the shadow, I love using shades that makes my eyes healthy and not tired 🙂
Michaela says
When doing a “winged” liner look with a cream liner (my fave is MUFE’s Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Shadow), I first outline where I want the “wing” to go with an angle brush and a black or grey eye shadow. That way, if I find that the wings aren’t even, I can still edit. Coz Lord knows, once the waterproof stuff is down, if it isn’t even, it’s difficult to fix without starting over.
Kate Gene says
My favorite eyeshadow brush is a generic, travel size blending brush. I use it every day! 🙂
Cindy says
My favourite e/s brush is the MAC 239, and i always use John v G eyeshadow primer
Twitter: Cindyyyyyyyy
Courtney L says
I’m simple. I just wet the brush!
Holly says
This is truly the best trick because it’s not a product that u buy, but a shortcut that’s cheap, easy, fast, and everyone can afford to do. You simply take the tiniest droplet of visine, (or whatever eye drops) rub onto your eyeshadow brush and then dip into not only your favorite loose powder eyeshadow, but also your pressed eyeshadow. Rub it around to make sure it’s now even cream and then apply to your lid. Cream eyeshadow is good because it gives a more dramatic effect and you may even use it together with powder shadow. This awesome, dual eyeshadow preforming trick for any eye makeup on the planet is just what u need! Kill two birds with one stone.

My favorite trick is using a wet liner brush and eyeshadow for eyeliner instead of an actual liner. I find it usually applies smoother, and is easy to blend, and with primer it has great staying power.
Jessica Lynn says
I like to apply a light eyeshadow (MAC eyeshadow in Hush) close to my lash line, and a brown one (MAC eyeshadow in Mulch) in my crease. I then use black eyeshadow (MAC eyeshadow in Carbon) and a thin brush along my lashes as liner. I also love lots of mascara!
Anna says
My only shadow tip is putting a bit of moisterizer on a q-tip, and using that to clean up any mistakes. It’s like a mini-eraser.
Jessica says
My favorite thing to do on mornings when i need a quick eyeshadow fix is to use an all over lid color that compliments my eye color. i have green eyes, so i like to use warmer colors like MAC’s expensive pink. with a smudge of a matte bone colored shadow on my brow bone (i like to use my fingers for that) it brightens up my eyes in one fell swoop of my eyeshadow brush.
Mitsu says
I love the Mac 217 brush, it does all the work for you. Blending colours into your eye crease effortlessly.
katie says
Urban Decay Primer Potion of course. And a MAC 219 brush I got in a holiday brush set a few years ago is my go-to brush.

I absolutely adore the GOSH professional eyeshadow brushes… they are cheap (around €8 here in Belgium, not bad compared to the €25 for the MAC version). If you have the chance, gGo check them out girls !!

the small black Sonia Kashuk e/s brush is my favorite brush. it is a staple in my collection and easily deposits color to the lids.

I love the MAC 213 brush. Also, if I’m low on primer I use some creamy concealer instead. Works pretty good.
By the way, awesoome give away, thanks so much!

When I’m going out I always sweep a bit of my MAC studio fix liqud foundation on to my eyelids to keep my eyeshadows from creasing. It does the job perfectly and it even out any veins visible on the eyelid. I find it better than UDPP for a night out in a club.
And the morning after said night out, I always wear a really pale base eyeshadow and stick with neatral colours so I don’t look ass dead as I feel!
Eunice says
my favorite ‘trick’ is to use a black gel liner as a base, then sweep over some pale, iridescent color to make it really pop 🙂

A white, bright, frosty Tuesday morning to you from Canada,
I love to use Too Faced Shadow Insurance to prime my lids–I have very oily lids and shadow will definately crease without the primer.
I have recently discovered MUFE’s “eyeseal” I just place a drop on my finger and pat it all over my lids. It leaves my lids slightly tacky and makes a great base for loose mineral shadows and causes their colours to POP! The MUFE “eyeseal” causes the shadows to become waterproof and they never crease or run–even while crying cutting onions!!!!!!!! It is amazing. It also is great to make a liner out of the loose minerals. I just mix a drop into my loose shadow (do this in the cap) and Voila, a very long lasting waterproof liner with an awesome colour payoff!!!!!!!!
Have a super Tuesday
Veronica says
eye shadow primer.! the shadow always goes on smoother and stays put longer. and if you don’t have primer, you can use a little concealer on the eye lid. as far as ‘eyeshadow application.. you can’t go wrong with a smokey eye. you can do it with any color and it always looks nice day or night. 🙂

Christa Holland says
One of my favorite things to do is to use a makeup palette in an order different from what I’m “supposed” to. Especially the Almay eyeshadows made specifically for green eyes – I prefer to use the darkest color to line my eyes… otherwise, having the darkest color in the middle actually makes me look tired, : ( but if I do it in the other order, my hazel-y eyes look very green. : D

My eyes are always red due to chronic dryness from allergies and contact lenses, and a combo of white eyeliner on the lower water line and a super-thin bright blue line along the lower lashline (I use a wet MAC 212 brush w/ MAC Electric Eel eyeshadow) really do wonders to give the illusion of whiter, brighter eyes.

Pretty! I don’t have any really earth shattering tricks, but I learned a few years ago to use MAC paint pots as a primer before putting shadow on really extended the life of my eye shadows. I rarely have to do any touch ups throughout the day.

I don’t own any fancy make up brushes, but I think that the drugstore ones I have are pretty decent (I mainly use a set from Max Factor but I have a few more from a german brand I got from Berlin).
Anyway, my eye looks usually are pretty simple and safe (I usually just apply a layer of light rose gold or shimmery pink eyeshadow) so I don’t think I need any special tools for that…However I would love to try some MAC or Lancome brushes (they are too expensive in my country though) and I would really like to be a little more daring when it comes to eye makeup!

Well, I actually don’t have any new trick. Mine is that I *always* use MAC shadestick in Penny because I can use it with *every* eyeshadow and it really gives a new dimension to each eyeshadow. 🙂

My favorite primer is the Urban Decay Primer Potion–predictable, I know, haha, but it works best for me. I’ve tried may others like the Paint Pots from MAC or the Shadow Insurance from Too Faced, but they don’t work for very long on me because my lids are sooo oily.
My favorite eyeshadow trick is to layer colors–different colors with different finishes. I really like to layer Stila’s Barefoot Contessa (don’t you just love that name!?) over the matte purple in my Nars Charade duo. I apply the purple up to my crease and blend out to get a smoky look and then apply Barefoot Contessa only on my lid. It gives such a pretty look! You can also do this with lighter taupes and creams for a quick way to get going in the morning.
And I tweeted! http://twitter.com/natalie647

I’m with you–I refuse to attempt any eyeshadow without a primer. I’ve loved Prescriptives moonbeam shadows for this for years, but now sadly will have to try another very soon.

My favourite trick is to use a small amount of concealer mixed into a small amount of foundation and apply to eyelids. Then powder well with a translucent powder. This helps eyeshadow to stay put and makes blending easier as the oils in your skin don’t affect the shadow.
Lou says
I’m not sure if it counts as a trick but if I’m doing a really smoky eye, I’ll do my eye make up first then foundation etc. That way if I drop any shadow, I can just wipe it off without smearing everything everywhere.
Alli says
Easy! I apply concealer onto my eyelids, then apply the eyeshadow wet. This decreases fallout and gives me a more intense colour!
Mansi says
my favourite trick for an every day look is to start off by applying 1 coat of sheer/nude eyeshadow (instead of primer) since it’s so much quicker/easier to dust that on than to carefully blend in the eyeshadow primer. Then apply your regular eyeshadow as you normally would! and to really make your eyes look less tired + make the colour of your eyeshadow pop, line only the top waterline of the eye. it makes your eyes look bigger, lashes look longer and more voluminous and is an instant wake up for anyone! 🙂
thanks for this giveaway!

My favorite brush is T. LeClerc’s Crease Brush but I use it for everything eye-related, not just the crease! I use Bare Escentuals under my eye and I’ll sometimes use this brush to extend it into the corners of my eye and up on to the first third of my eyelid. It’s reflective so if I don’t have time to do a highlighting color on the inner corners of my eye, it takes care of it!
sparklehead says
Oops, I meant Bare Escentuals “Well Rested” in particular.
Alexandra says
Seeing as i have oily eyelids my trick is. Primer and then a mac paint pot or any cream eyeshadow, then powder on top. My eyeshadow is vibrant and lasts all day 🙂
I love macs 239 brush to pat on eyeshadow 🙂
Antoinette says
Well first, I love using Mary Kay’s eyeshadow primer- that stuff makes the shadow stay put! Other than that- if I’m looking tired (and as a new mom, this is a frequent occurence…) I will do a light wash of color in a shimmery peach, only line the TOP of my eyes in a dark brown or bronze and smudge it into my lashline using a Q-Tip, then apply a quick swipe of black mascara. Seems to do the trick!
Jennifer says
My favorite brush is the 217 from MAC for easy blending, but I also love the brand Ecotools. They are pretty good quality for being at the drugstores and the handles are made from bamboo, and recycled materials.

Mac brush #’s 217 and 239. I’ve tried Urban Decay’s primer, but it always manages to crease.
J says
I use UDPP as a primer because I have hella oily lids (sometimes I have to apply 2 layers! D:) and then apply a coloured cream base like a NYX jumbo pencil to help the shadows pop. So with that combination I get vibrancy AND staying power.
Another trick I also like is getting a bit of white or skintoned colour shadow on a flat shader brush (I suppose you could use a blending brush too, but this is quicker for me) and going around the outside of the colour, particularly on the outer corner, to shape it. Easier for me than going in with remover 🙂
Allyson says
My favorite eyeshadow tricks are fairly simple — I use a Mac Paint Pot (usually in Painterly) as a base and then layer on eyeshadow with the darker color in the crease. I also use a lot of eyeshadow as eyeliner by using a damp brush to apply them like I would a liquid eyeliner. Saves a lot of money on eyeliner pencils!
Jennifer K says
My fave trick is one I acquired a la Kandee on you tube. Putting a thin layer of eyeshadow over your eyeliner really holds it in place!

My favorite eyeshadow trick is to mix two different bold colors to make a vibrant new one. I bought the Hello Dolly quad from MAC and it has a really hot pink and a bold seafoam color. I normally wont wear them individually, but if I dip my brush in both and tap off the excess, I make a really beautiful purple. I love doing that with all my eyeshadows and plus, its saves me the money and hassle of buying tons of eye shadows in every color.

Truthfully I like the short handled brushes. That way I can get close to the makeup mirror. I use Too Faced Shadow Insurance first. I need something so those minerals will stick to my lids. Make sure to really swirl in the minerals into the brush and then tap it off. That way their isn’t any fallout on your cheeks. Thank you.

Aw nice. That’s super kind of you (specially because we get to read quite a few other tips yey) 😀
Ok, I’m a beginner at the hole art of make up, but something I enjoy going is to, after applying light eveshadow on the inside corners, medium on the middle and dark on the outside corner, I love to apply this… what, shine between medium and dark. For instance, I’m using green (light yellowish green, normal vivid green and dark green (kinda brownish) – blend it all very well, and then I apply this lime blue eye shadow (but just a bit, you know). It gets quite nice, I love green and blue. I also love this type of blending and mixing colors, because as less you work on the blue, better it gets :3
I don’t know well yet, but I think you can pretty much use the extra color over any other, as long as they are 3 maximum, no? What do you think? 😛
Ana says
