World’s Best Programmer: Tabs the Cat.

Programmer, gamer, hacker, creator of famous 8-bit graphical works of art — not to mention world-renowned plus-size kitty supermodel.

Tabs sent a very important email last night…an email that could change the course of history and alter the fabric of space and time, at least as it pertains to plus-size kitty supermodeling and professional gaming.

It was an email sent to Satoru Iwata, the current president of Nintendo corporation, the world’s largest video game company by revenue, and it starts with the line, “Let me resurrect Donkey Kong.”

Unbeknownst to me before last night, Tabs actually has an honorary degree in computer programming from NIT (the Novato Institute of Technology).

You see, back before he got into modeling, even before his stint as a construction worker, Tabs was a famous script kitty… Actually, he was the scr1ptki77y, otherwise known as the cat who hacked the PetCo corporate network, which was believed to be impregnable at the time.

Anyway, Tabs gave up hacking and transitioned to kitty modeling shortly after the PetCo incident, when it started looking like the authorities were closing in on him.

This was a few years ago, and since then the statute of limitations on kitty hacking expired, and so Tabs is now comfortable publicly discussing this part of his past…

In the email to Iwata, Tabs included the first 500 lines of code for his new game engine, which he claims is so sophisticated that it makes Halo and Call of Duty look like Pong.

Time will tell, I guess. If Iwata responds and offers a coding job to Tabs, Makeup and Beauty Blog may be going on temporary hiatus…

If that happens, this could be one of the last Sephora eGift card giveaways for a while. You better enter this one right now, just in case. 🙂

What folks are saying…

“What a lovely surprise it was to see your announcement (after completing one of many exams/papers/projects I have this crazy week)! The eCard will definitely ease expenses for this broke, beauty-obsessed college student. Thank you, Karen and Tabs!!”

“Thanks so much, Karen. Just in case you were wondering what I got with it, I decided to go with the Clarisonic Mia–I’ve been wanting it for years now, but have never purchased it because of the price. Your eCard helped me finally buy it! I look forward to using it. Thanks again!”

“Shut the front door! OMG Karen, you have made my day. 🙂 I’m sick in bed with the flu and this has just cheered me up immensely!!!!!!!! BTW, I’m the one that sent you that pic of my pug in a wig a few weeks back LOL! Thanks again, honestly, I’m beyond giddy right now.”

“Thank you SO much Karen! OMG! Wishes really do come true! I can’t believe I won! You have no idea how much this will help me through the holidays. I’ve been an avid fan of your blog for the past two years. Your witty and creative entries, informative makeup information, and beautiful photos have kept me hooked. I look forward to more of it. Goodness, you’ve
seriously just made my week and it’s only Tuesday night!”

“Oh my goodness! Thank you so much Karen (and Tabs, of course)! I really appreciate this! I’d been eyeing the Anastasia brow pencil in Strawburn to match my red hair!”
-Chelsea (and Jiji the kitten and Quincy the bunny)

“Hi Karen. Thank you so much, I’m so excited, I’ve never won anything before. My name is Hana … I just turned 25 (today is my birthday!) Yay! Thank you.”

Do you use any electronic devices in your beauty regimen (iPhones, Clarisonics, vibrating mascara wands, etc.)? How many bits are in a byte? Just for fun, how do you see technology changing the beauty industry 20 years from now? — you get the idea.

gotta return my mufe hd foundation in 153, it’s too light for me! 🙁

  157. I do more beauty shopping in-stores–nothing beats being able to touch and play with the products in person! If I do purchase online, I tend to be a very cautious buyer

I do a lot of my beauty buys in the store. I like being able to see it and look at how the color looks against my skin before buying. If I purchase makeup online, it’s usually for something I’ve bought before and just need a replacement or it’s for online deals only (like some of the Urban Decay stuff).

I like a lot of the old school games, classic Mario Brothers and Mario-Kart. Although the new game on the WiiU is pretty fun. I’ve been playing that this week. I do code but not on a regular basis. My husband is a software developer and several of my exes also were computer science/engineer so I’m familiar with a lot just by helping them. My geeky-ness lies elsewhere. 🙂

  178. Lori says:

Favorite beauty brands website? It’s a tossup between Urban Decay, Tarte and Bare Minerals for me. 🙂

  179. Selinabikechick says:

Wow! Love the graphics! My all-time favorite game is Space Invaders. Oldie but goodie. My favorite game now is angry birds. I know right? I’m determined to make perfect scores! I’ve never written an entire program, but I did create a website template for a humane society so they can easily add their own content. As for shopping, I do both real live and online. I don’t used any beauty electric devices…too many cords spell trouble with a pet rabbit in the house. Uh, 8 bits are in a byte. Lol And as for Technology, it just keeps getting cooler with time. Pretty soon we won’t have to apply makeup, either a robot will do it or we can walk around with holograms on our faces. 🙂 Thank you for an awesome giveaway!

Ohhh, I wrote a very, very unsuccessful computer program in high school. It had to “work” in order for me to pass the class. My nerdy computer partner, who’s probably an Apple exec now, launched hers and it performed the ordered task. I launched mine and all I got was a flashing cursor. Epic fail, F in computer programming. I’m still not as tech savvy as I wish I was, all those years later.

Funny you should ask about programming! I have a liberal arts degree from eons ago (the 80’s), but my husband is currently working on a degree of his own. To help him stay motivated, I agreed to take classes with him. Guess who is now about 4 classes away from a computer science degree?? Painful but apparently possible, lol.

Oh, and as for games Sim City is my favorite EVAH, though Plants vs Zombies has been my obsession for a while now.

  275. Diane says:

I see technology changing beauty by allowing virtual try-ons of products to be more accessible. Sure, you can go to a site and upload your photo and try hairstyle or makeup already, but it would become more portable and the services like seeing sun damage or before-and-after shots of how your skin responds to different products would be available to anyone in the privacy of their own home instead of having to go to a doctor or dermatologist’s office. Let’s say you wanted to try Clinique’s Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector. Your profile would already be stored on your home computer or portable device of your choice (such as iPad) and it could immediately analyze how your skin would respond to the product. Just think–no more chancy purchases–you’d know right away if a product would work on you (or if a makeup item, whether the color would look right on you) without having to buy it. How cool would that be? 🙂

  276. Evelyn says:

My favourite video game is Super Metroid, but that is a really tough choice!

Maybe in the future we’ll have little earrings, and when we “activate” them they will create a hologram illusion over our face which will look like perfect makeup and with our thoughts we can easily adjust the color schemes. lol jk. I’m not sure what will happen but that might actually be a little creepy.

I usually shop at Sephora online so I can get samples-I’ve found lots of products this way. I’ll be glad when my local store gets that new foundation-matching scanner. I have very dark, very red skin and I’m tired of people handing me yellow-toned colors just because it’s the darkest shade 🙁

I use a clarisonic about once a week because i have sensitive skin and more than that is too much for me. In the future I think we will be able to have the ability to take pictures that show true tones and undertones and also that will in turn make it possible for us to upload our picture and see how makeup colors will work with our true skintone.
