“Wait — but who’s bringing the folding chairs?!”

Gah!

Holiday stress. Yep, it’s that time of year. It’s hard enough trying to balance your regular workload while attending to your feline/canine/human teenage, infant or adolescent overlord’s needs, but then you throw Thanksgiving preparations on top of that, and stress levels go ballistic!

What’s a guy or girl to do?

Well, there’s herbal tea… :)

But tea is only marginally helpful.

In my case, I also turn to TV, chocolate and makeup, preferably all at the same time, LOL!

Welcome to another weekend, friend. I hope you’re hanging in there. Tabs, El Hub and I are doing our best.

Oh, I ended up liking that movie I watched last night, Your Sister’s Sister. I can’t believe the main dude in it is Mark Duplass from The League (it also stars Emily Blunt and Rosemarie DeWitt). I thought it was a little emotionally twisted, but not too bad. I liked it (although I wanted more from the ending).

In other news, it’s Sephora eGift card giveaway time! — and it only takes a comment to enter (full details down below).

Good luck! And may the fierce force be with you. :)

What folks are saying…

“Shut the front door! OMG Karen, you have made my day. :) I’m sick in bed with the flu and this has just cheered me up immensely!!!!!!!! BTW, I’m the one that sent you that pic of my pug in a wig a few weeks back LOL! Thanks again, honestly, I’m beyond giddy right now.”
-Angel

“What a lovely surprise it was to see your announcement (after completing one of many exams/papers/projects I have this crazy week)! The eCard will definitely ease expenses for this broke, beauty-obsessed college student. Thank you, Karen and Tabs!!”
-Katie

“Thanks so much, Karen. Just in case you were wondering what I got with it, I decided to go with the Clarisonic Mia–I’ve been wanting it for years now, but have never purchased it because of the price. Your eCard helped me finally buy it! I look forward to using it. Thanks again!”
-Jane

“Thank you SO much Karen! OMG! Wishes really do come true! I can’t believe I won! You have no idea how much this will help me through the holidays. I’ve been an avid fan of your blog for the past two years. Your witty and creative entries, informative makeup information, and beautiful photos have kept me hooked. I look forward to more of it. Goodness, you’ve
seriously just made my week and it’s only Tuesday night! :)”
-Zharlynne

“Oh my goodness! Thank you so much Karen (and Tabs, of course)! I really appreciate this! I’d been eyeing the Anastasia brow pencil in Strawburn to match my red hair!”
-Chelsea (and Jiji the kitten and Quincy the bunny)

“Hi Karen. Thank you so much, I’m so excited, I’ve never won anything before. My name is Hana … I just turned 25 (today is my birthday!) Yay! Thank you.”
-Hana

Plus, Meow has sales all the time, so you can get it for about $20. I like it better than my Mac 182!

Your blog is one of the few the feature Paul & Joe products. Perhaps because they have such cute whimsical packaging, especially when they have the cat designs, not to mention their products smell divine and are high quality as well. I even bought the Paul & Joe blusher stick (cat with the top cat) in Minou after reading your post. Love their products!

Also you’re one of the first to blog about the Le Volume de Chanel mascara which I have been dying to try. Yves Saint Laurent Faux Cils (waterproof, regular version gives me severe raccoon eyes) and Lancome Hypnose drama (though a little clumpier) are my fav and you say Le Volume de Chanel is better than those?! 111. elle says:

Trying to decide if I want to wear green or purple eyeliner today…

  112. katie says:

My most used brush is my eco tools angled eyeliner brush. I like that it is stiff enough and it comes to a precise point. I like to use it on my eyebrows with my tarte brow mousse. My second fav for the same job is the angled eyeliner brush from essence! I was really surprised by how well it works.

  113. Erica says:

i’ve been loving MAC’s breath of plum blush!! very pretty for fall!

  114. Tasnia says:

Now that I’m older I feel like snow is only good for getting out of class…way too old to want to go play in it! Here’s hoping for minimal damage snow storm but maximum class cancellation.

  115. Ellen says:

I want to answer them all, because I love reading other people’s opinions!

What makeup brush do you use most often? Crown Brush Pro Precision Pointed Powder – only $16, but so big and fluffy, perfect for dusting on loose or pressed powder, highlighter, bronzer, blush, anything!
Most underrated makeup or beauty brand? I’m just now getting into Guerlain, and they do so many things so well
Who’s your favorite actress on TV? Kerry Washington on Scandal, hands down
Has it started snowing where you live? One last week, during the Nor’easter
Do you prefer to shave, wax or pluck? Shave legs, wax bikini area, pluck eyebrows
If you could change your eye color (and wanted to), what color would you choose? Green, because it’s mysterious and different!

  116. Vaso says:

    I love SEPHORA!!

  117. Natasha says:

  119. Laura says:

The makeup brush I use most often is definitely the RealTechniques Buffing Brush. I know it gets talked about a lot, but for good reason. It is absolutely the best for buffing in liquid foundations, tinted moisturizers, and BB creams. Leaves a natural finish and so easy to clean!

  120. Colleen Boudreau says:

    I love Hayden Panettiere.

  121. KaylaP says:

Personally I don’t think EcoTools gets a lot of love when it comes to their brushes… I have 9, yes 9, of their foundation brushes and loveeee them so much! Their easy to clean and uber cheap, only $6.99! Of course it sucks because I have all of those brushes it just makes it harder on myself when I have to do a mass cleaning of all the other makeup brushes I own too!! lol

  122. Emily says:

I have hazel eyes but wish they were greener sometimes.

  123. Katrina says:

We have seen snowflakes already here in Michigan but they didn’t last. It won’t be long though.

Thank you for the giveaway! Enjoy the rest of your weekend. :)

  127. ali says:

    so fun. thanks

  128. Jess says:

Can’t wait for the snow to come!

  129. Carol says:

The brush I use most often is the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. It used to be my Sigma F80 but the size of the RT brush is so much better at getting foundation into the harder to reach areas, like around the nose and under the eyes, and it’s super soft and dense. I tried going back to the F80 but now it feels so huge and unwieldy in comparison.

  130. MJ says:

I use my EcoTools bronzer brush the most, but not really for bronzer. XD I use it for my Bare Minerals makeup instead. :3

  131. Rebekah says:

I love the picture of Tabs smizing!

  132. Trish says:

My most used brush is the blush brush! I end up using sponges or my fingers for foundation application mostly because I’m not so great at using a foundation brush. Love ur posts Karen!

  133. Annie says:

I love your blog, Karen — and your pic of Tabs getting a makeover cracked me up!

    No snow here either!

  141. Maddy says:

My favorite actress on TV would have to be Emily Deschanel!

  142. Ash G says:

I live in New Orleans…I think it’s snowed here maybe 5 times in my 31 year lifetime. It’s been a few years, we should be due for a snowfall soon.

  143. Nicole Shrimpton says:

There is sooooo much snow where I live :(
but! luckily they’ve finally cleared all the roads so it’s not super dangerous to drive

  144. @PiratePigg says:

I believe Tabs might be the one cat who’s more demanding than Sir Fred, but they are very loving and worth it, aren’t they. :)

  145. rainebeaux says:

I can never go wrong with a lip brush, even if it’s just for clear lip gloss. Given the grab bag/proverbial box of chocolates weather here in Chicago, there’s no snow to speak of.

I’ve always shaved, and only pluck when necessary (errant gray eyebrow hair, mostly)

  146. Kirsten H. says:

Anything below the neck I prefer to get waxed… but eyebrows are plucked or threaded. :P Unfortunately I usually shave as waxing can get expensive. :(

I’ve tried so many $25 and up mascaras and still can’t find any that are better than Maybelline and L’Oreal. It burns me up that the super-expensive ones dry up after three weeks and have to be replaced! Y’all have to try Maybelline Volume Express One by One. It’s what DiorShow New Look was supposed to be!
I have entered this drawing every time you’ve had it and never won! Please pick me this time!

I have been loving the burgundy / red wine lip trend. I want to go try on Bobbi Brown lip color in crimson and Mac Dubbonet.

  213. Karin says:

Hmmm… my favorite makeup product would have to be my MAC concealer. On days where my skin isn’t looking to great, I could just conceal problem areas and under eye circles and my face looks flawless as if I’m wearing full coverage foundation. I just set with MAC’s blotting powder and a little mascara and I’m good to goo!

  214. Liz says:

I use my Bobbi Brown blush brush and my Sephora powder brush the most. I use those daily.

  221. I wish they had a cream that would make facial hair go away forever and ever. lol

  222. Khalilah says:

I think the eco tools buffing brush is my best all round brush followed by real techniques expert face brush. I’ll ise either on consecutive products on face: primer throrgh foundation/ powder/ bronzer/ blush.

Tbh, I prefer tweezing over waxing or threading any day. I use tweezerman’s tweezers and I feel it gives better control and is less irritating to the skin while removing fine and coarse hairs under my arch. I’ve been wearing a bold yet well groomed brow look sinxe summer

  223. Angela @A_Dom_Bomb says:

How’s it? So I went through surgical menopause recently, throwing me under the hot flash bus 20 years too early. So I have to deal with serious IronMan Triathalon type sweating at any given moment. Needless to say, my Look suffered. So after much trial & serious fail-age, my faves are straight out of the drugstore. Loreal Infallable 24 hour eyeshadow & Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadow have killed the competition hands down. They stay on thru hot flash sweating, swimming, tears, & rain. Some of those simultaneously. For all other non waterproof makeup I use Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray. Prob way much more than anyone wanted to know, right right?

  224. chari says:

    i love TARTE products!!!

  225. Vanessa says:

    Hi everybody!

TV actress: right now I would say Maggie Smith on Downton Abbey.

I have a Sonia Kashup flat top multipurpose brush that I use to apply powder foundation (either Bobbi Brown mineral or Laura Geller balance & brighten depending how much coverage I need that day) and I have a MAC 217 that I use solely for blending out concealer under my eyes. Nothing else does the job quite as perfectly.

Ive just recently began an addiction to all things beauty(after my 1st trip tp sephora) and your site always came up in my searches while looking for reviews and tutorials on some of my most recent beauty buys. I’ve always loved makeup but didn’t buy a lot because there’s only so much you can do with browns, taupes and neutrals, which is all that I had worn for 25 years (I was a teen in the 80′s and never caught onto the blue trends then). So now I’m looking for ways to wear color-hopefully I’m not too old for that.
But anyway LOVE your site-very helpful reviews, tips etc. plus I like your conversational way of posting!
    Thanks for all your help!,
And oh, by the way-sephora is my Home Depot! So would love to win!!!

I have dark brown eyes, and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
