A Makeup and Beauty Blog giveaway
A Makeup and Beauty Blog giveaway

Good morning, fellow beauty lovers. Thank you for visiting! I hope this morning finds you well. 🙂

Did you do anything fun last night? It was such a warm evening here — the warmest of the year so far — so we had all the windows open, which was neat and weird because of all the nighttime noises outside that I haven’t heard this clearly in a while, like the neighborhood dogs barking (and barking and barking and barking), distant conversations, cars accelerating off on some road somewhere, crickets providing constant background music to everything, a shy owl hooting quietly every so often, leaves rustling, and the occasional siren…to which every dog within a 2-mile radius barks, “I hear that! I hear it too! I hear it more than you do! No way I hear it more! Guys I hear it now!” LOL!

We just stayed home, ate mango bars and chilled grapes, and finished watching Jason Bourne Bought a Zoo. Between the tigers chuffing and lions roaring in that, and the suburban symphony outside, it was like a Doctor Dolittle sequel up in here, haha! I loved it.

KauaiThis weekend’s gonna be a busy one for me because…El Hub and I are going to Kauai!

Not this weekend, but late next week, so I have a lot to take care of before we leave.

I’ve been busy prepping what I hope will be some pretty great blog posts to run while I’m away (Unsung Heroes posts, reviews, DIY skincare projects, makeup looks and more); I’ve been working on it quietly for a few weeks. Of course, they have the Internet on Kauai…but I don’t plan to be using it as much as I usually do. Some though (definitely lots of pics).

I hope whatever you have planned this weekend includes a little time for fun.

And speaking of fun, you know how we do it. It’s Saturday, which means it’s giveaway time, y’all! Just for fun.

What folks are saying…

“Shut the front door! OMG Karen, you have made my day. 🙂 I’m sick in bed with the flu and this has just cheered me up immensely!!!!!!!! BTW, I’m the one that sent you that pic of my pug in a wig a few weeks back LOL! Thanks again, honestly, I’m beyond giddy right now.”
-Angel

“Oh my goodness! Thank you so much Karen (and Tabs, of course)! I really appreciate this! I’d been eyeing the Anastasia brow pencil in Strawburn to match my red hair!”
-Chelsea (and Jiji the kitten and Quincy the bunny)

“Never before have I been so pleased to check my email right before bed!!! Thank you so, so much! I truly enjoy your blog and check it almost daily! Thanks again! This made my night!”
-Melissa, Edmond, OK

“Hi Karen. Oh my goodness! I can’t believe I won! :O Thank you so much! You, Tabs, and your blog are amazing! Thank you for keeping me updated on all things beauty and more importantly, for keeping me entertained! Keep doing your thing! 🙂 Thank you again.”
-Jacqueline

“Hi Karen. Thank you so much, I’m so excited, I’ve never won anything before. My name is Hana … I just turned 25 (today is my birthday!) Yay! Thank you.”
-Hana

I’m actually not doing anything super fun this weekend, because I have to woooork on my real-life job and the blog. The weather is also VERY wacky here. This minute there is gorgeous sunlight, and next minute it’s all gray and cloudy. It’s hard to do anything fun!

The funniest hair cutting story in our family is when one of my grown daughtes was about two. I made a lot of their clothes. She climed up on the kitchen table and cut one side of her shoulder length hair with the pinking shears on one side up near her ear. Of course, we went to the beauty shop the next day and got her hair cut short.

My favorite sunscreen at the moment is from The Face Shop. So far so good! I also try to use skincare from the same line but doesn’t always work out. Only been to Kauai once out of all my years living on Oahu. I think is one of the most beautiful island so lush and green. Very beautiful.

The only cosmetics I’ve mixed is nail polish. Sometimes I’ll come home with a color that is so similar to something else I own that I go into mad scientist mode and mix it with something else to get a different look from it. So far so good. I’ve come up with some pretty mixtures.

I’m always fascinated by the different local flora and fauna and I bet Hawaii is like nothing I could imagine. Shoot, I was floored when I went to Florida (badum tsh) for the first time last year and saw little lizards running around everywhere! Crazy!

I cut my own hair once…….and had to have a neighbor come over and rescue it from the damage I’d done. Fortunately, my hair was long enough at the time that there was still a lot of length left and the damage wasn’t bad enough to necessitate a total chop-off.

Thanks for another great giveaway opportunity, Karen!

I mix my skin care… It’s funny because I’m such a makeup snob, but I use St. Ives Green Tea Cleanser, Clinique toner, and Olay moisturizers. The only skincare “regimen” I ever really tried was Clinique, and it didn’t work out well. So I’ve been mixing and matching ever since.

Also, I usually cut my own bangs. They just grow too fast and I don’t have time to go to the salon all the time. I’ve gotten pretty good at it though. Probably because I’m terrified of going too short. 🙂

Your question about cutting your own hair brought back a memory that’s making me laugh so hard….
About 40 years ago, my mother was telling me about a haircut that she liked and I said, ” Oh! I can cut your hair that way! I know how to do that!” I don’t know why I said this as I had never cut hair before.
Not only did she allow me to cut her hair; my father also requested that I do his as well!
OMG….you should have seen both of them! Luckily, I have it on video…….hahahaaa
It was really a hot mess! ROFL
Why would they think I could cut hair?????? LOL

My normal hair growth is about 1/2-3/4 inch per month, and in the last 3 months since I’ve been taking these every day, my hair has grown 3 solid inches. Not bad for 8 bucks eh? 🙂 Good luck!

The last time I went hiking was Wednesday. We have trail access from the backyard and my stupid horse decided he wanted to be a nut job so I had to handwalk him along the trails to my lesson at the city barn. I don’t like hiking.

I make my own lotions and face moistures. I live in the high desert of Nevada and it gets so dry here so I spent alot of time reading about different oils, like macadamia nut oil is awesome for your skin. Now a few years later, my friends want me to make some for them also.

I’ve definitely cut my own hair, I’m a hairdresser! altyought ill say even I have messed it up before lol! and seen many clients that cut their own and had no idea the damage they did!! If you ever cut your or trim your ends, comb the hair taught and then with shears (not scissors, you can buy a low price pair at a beauty supply like sallys) then cut into the hair vertical, don’t just cut horizontal and whack it off, try to go into the hair with small cuts and it wil be blended! just a tip 🙂 oh and far as waterproof makeup, loving maybelline eye tattoos tested at the pool yesterday, and my makeup forever waterproof liner has lasted me a while and it a go to! covergirl lashblast is a good waterproof formula! i talk too much! toodles lovelies

I cut my own hair because my hair is wavy / curly and you can’t really tell if I don’t do it perfectly….. 😉 I just pull it in a ponytail and cut straight across. Then I make my part and even it up in the front.

I’d highly recommend cutting your hair yourself, if you can manage it. I’ve saved a lot of money that way, and I’m generally always happier with the results.

The only time I cut my own hair is when I have side-swept bangs….than I do maintenance on them if I get too frustrated with them in between appointments. But mostly, I leave it to my hairdresser. I have seen her for years and she knows *exactly* how to cut my hair the way I like it. She can never retire. ever.

My favorite long wearing liquid liner is the Heroine Make Smooth liner, and a close dupe for it is the physicians formula eyeliner+serum pen ( silver tube)! Nothing else stays, not even MAC!

My favorite sunscreen of all time is Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock SPF 70. It’s extremely lightweight, non-greasy, and the suncreen-y smell disappears in a few minutes!

I would love to get my friend and me something….and a 50$ gift card will do just fine in that department. We’re big on home made face packs and we love Neutrogena’s age defense sunscreen.

I once watched a YouTube video and was I spired to cut my own hair. It looked so easy in the video but I made a huge mess! I learned my lesson and will stick to less permanent beauty lessons.

Oh man.. I haven’t been hiking in ages. My favorite sunscreen is from Shisedo! I love it. I often cut my own hair, trims here and there. I don’t really make my own skincare/beauty products. Not really my thing. Long-wearing makeup?… hmm.. I always have to pound stuff onto my skin to make it longwearing. Primers are a necessity on my face.

My fav organic beauty brand is 100% pure cosmetics, hands down. I tried their stuff years back after discovering them on qvc. I loved the idea of cosmetics colored from fruit and vegetable pigments and all of their ingredients are completely unrefined and contain all of their natural benefits. The items I tried before were ok but I rediscovered the brand last year and I loooove the tinted moisturizer, foundation and blackberry mascara.

One time I let a friend cut my hair… it ended up looking like a christmas tree, so we had to chop off the bottom layers. It was the shortest shag I ever had. However, now I cut my bangs all the time.

When I was in the Navy and assigned to my first ship, I used to cut it myself all the time. I had a (very) long shag at the time, so all I’d do is stand and hang my head down by my knees, letting the hair fall straight out from my head. Then I’d gather it in a ponytail at the top of my head, pull the fist with the hair in it away from the head a few inches, then cut the ends off. Believe it or not, it worked great! One deployment, I let another one of the girls give me a perm. That didn’t work out quite as well, lol.

Too late to enter, but I wanted to share a fun memory. 🙂
