A Makeup and Beauty Blog giveaway
A Makeup and Beauty Blog giveaway

Good morning, fellow beauty lovers. Thank you for visiting! I hope this morning finds you well. :)

Did you do anything fun last night? It was such a warm evening here — the warmest of the year so far — so we had all the windows open, which was neat and weird because of all the nighttime noises outside that I haven’t heard this clearly in a while, like the neighborhood dogs barking (and barking and barking and barking), distant conversations, cars accelerating off on some road somewhere, crickets providing constant background music to everything, a shy owl hooting quietly every so often, leaves rustling, and the occasional siren…to which every dog within a 2-mile radius barks, “I hear that! I hear it too! I hear it more than you do! No way I hear it more! Guys I hear it now!” LOL!

We just stayed home, ate mango bars and chilled grapes, and finished watching Jason Bourne Bought a Zoo. Between the tigers chuffing and lions roaring in that, and the suburban symphony outside, it was like a Doctor Dolittle sequel up in here, haha! I loved it.

KauaiThis weekend’s gonna be a busy one for me because…El Hub and I are going to Kauai!

Not this weekend, but late next week, so I have a lot to take care of before we leave.

I’ve been busy prepping what I hope will be some pretty great blog posts to run while I’m away (Unsung Heroes posts, reviews, DIY skincare projects, makeup looks and more); I’ve been working on it quietly for a few weeks. Of course, they have the Internet on Kauai…but I don’t plan to be using it as much as I usually do. Some though (definitely lots of pics).

I hope whatever you have planned this weekend includes a little time for fun.

And speaking of fun, you know how we do it. It’s Saturday, which means it’s giveaway time, y’all! Just for fun.

What folks are saying…

“Shut the front door! OMG Karen, you have made my day. :) I’m sick in bed with the flu and this has just cheered me up immensely!!!!!!!! BTW, I’m the one that sent you that pic of my pug in a wig a few weeks back LOL! Thanks again, honestly, I’m beyond giddy right now.”
-Angel

“Oh my goodness! Thank you so much Karen (and Tabs, of course)! I really appreciate this! I’d been eyeing the Anastasia brow pencil in Strawburn to match my red hair!”
-Chelsea (and Jiji the kitten and Quincy the bunny)

“Never before have I been so pleased to check my email right before bed!!! Thank you so, so much! I truly enjoy your blog and check it almost daily! Thanks again! This made my night!”
-Melissa, Edmond, OK

“Hi Karen. Oh my goodness! I can’t believe I won! :O Thank you so much! You, Tabs, and your blog are amazing! Thank you for keeping me updated on all things beauty and more importantly, for keeping me entertained! Keep doing your thing! :) Thank you again.”
-Jacqueline

“Hi Karen. Thank you so much, I’m so excited, I’ve never won anything before. My name is Hana … I just turned 25 (today is my birthday!) Yay! Thank you.”
-Hana

The last time I cut my own bangs, it was a hugeee mistake! XD

The only cosmetics I’ve mixed is nail polish. Sometimes I’ll come home with a color that is so similar to something else I own that I go into mad scientist mode and mix it with something else to get a different look from it. So far so good. I’ve come up with some pretty mixtures.

  104. Jenny says:

Oh my gosh, I’m so jelly! I’ve never been to Hawaii (or California) but I would just LOVE to see it. Just put myself on a makeup-buying moratorium until Memorial Day, but it doesn’t count if I buy it with a gift card I won, right? :)

  119. Alison says:

Hiya! Your trip sounds fun! I go hiking quite a lot since I moved to the “american riviera.” I went last week, and although it wasn’t super strenuous, it was gorgeous. I wear Skinsuticels sunscreen in my face (extra gentle, doesn’t make me break out) and Alba and Kiss My Face on my body.

  120. I mix my skin care… It’s funny because I’m such a makeup snob, but I use St. Ives Green Tea Cleanser, Clinique toner, and Olay moisturizers. The only skincare “regimen” I ever really tried was Clinique, and it didn’t work out well. So I’ve been mixing and matching ever since.

Also, I usually cut my own bangs. They just grow too fast and I don’t have time to go to the salon all the time. I’ve gotten pretty good at it though. Probably because I’m terrified of going too short. :-)

  121. Emma R says:

I used to cut my own hair all throughout high school… never again!

( I stopped wearing powder) but they just show up bad. And the false eyelashes are driving me batty because the base makes my eyes look older since the base is black and thick. I need HELP and suggestions!!

I used to cut my bangs in high school. One time though, I cut it too short that I always had my bangs pinned or pulled back until it grew to the right length! I was so embarrassed! I couldn’t help laughing at myself! I love using neautrogena’s sunscreen because some of them have really high SPF, doesn’t feel oily and makes my skin softer

Couldn’t live without it in the hot summer Dallas heat!

As a big fan of Tabs, I’ve often wondered if Tabs was short for something (other than Tabby cat). I can understand a cat of his fame going by one name a la Cher or Prince. I’ve thought it must be something specCATular like:

    Theodore Aloysis Bartholomew Sebastian.

    or

    Tristan Albert Bertram Steele

  168. Soo says:

my favorite sunscreen is by Jack Black, it doesn’t feel cakey or greasy and really sinks into the skin. it also doesn’t have that potent SPF smell like most sunscreens do.

About 40 years ago, my mother was telling me about a haircut that she liked and I said, ” Oh! I can cut your hair that way! I know how to do that!” I don’t know why I said this as I had never cut hair before.
Not only did she allow me to cut her hair; my father also requested that I do his as well!

If you ever cut your or trim your ends, comb the hair taught and then with shears (not scissors, you can buy a low price pair at a beauty supply like sallys) then cut into the hair vertical, don’t just cut horizontal and whack it off, try to go into the hair with small cuts and it wil be blended! just a tip :) oh and far as waterproof makeup, loving maybelline eye tattoos tested at the pool yesterday, and my makeup forever waterproof liner has lasted me a while and it a go to! covergirl lashblast is a good waterproof formula! i talk too much! toodles lovelies

I cut my own hair because my hair is wavy / curly and you can’t really tell if I don’t do it perfectly….. ;) I just pull it in a ponytail and cut straight across. Then I make my part and even it up in the front.

I’d highly recommend cutting your hair yourself, if you can manage it. I’ve saved a lot of money that way, and I’m generally always happier with the results.

  389. meghan says:

Thanks for the giveaway Karen! I fell in love with Neutrogena’s Pure & Free liquid sunblock last year, it’s very lightweight and is a physical sunscreen so it’s great for sensitive skin. I don’t know if they’re still making it anymore, which is just my luck.

The only time I cut my own hair is when I have side-swept bangs….than I do maintenance on them if I get too frustrated with them in between appointments. But mostly, I leave it to my hairdresser. Oh man, definitely cannot cut my own hair. For one, I have super curly hair, so I’d be afraid it would turn out really strange. Also, I “trimmed” my hair once when I was a kid and got grounded for a month, so I just hear my mom’s voice in my head yelling about not cutting my own hair…

Oh man.. I haven’t been hiking in ages. My favorite sunscreen is from Shisedo! I love it. I often cut my own hair, trims here and there. I don’t really make my own skincare/beauty products. Not really my thing. Long-wearing makeup?… hmm.. I always have to pound stuff onto my skin to make it longwearing. Primers are a necessity on my face.

My fav organic beauty brand is 100% pure cosmetics, hands down. I tried their stuff years back after discovering them on qvc. I loved the idea of cosmetics colored from fruit and vegetable pigments and all of their ingredients are completely unrefined and contain all of their natural benefits. The items I tried before were ok but I rediscovered the brand last year and I loooove the tinted moisturizer, foundation and blackberry mascara.

  440. laura says:

One time I let a friend cut my hair… it ended up looking like a christmas tree, so we had to chop off the bottom layers. It was the shortest shag I ever had. However, now I cut my bangs all the time.

  446. Shilpa says:

I love the Nivea SPF 50 sunscreen, it’s the only one so far that has protected my Indian skin from pigmentation to a great extent! I’m never ever ever without it….

I loathe sunscreen, but i wear it anyways!

  450. Liz says:

When I was in the Navy and assigned to my first ship, I used to cut it myself all the time. I had a (very) long shag at the time, so all I’d do is stand and hang my head down by my knees, letting the hair fall straight out from my head. Then I’d gather it in a ponytail at the top of my head, pull the fist with the hair in it away from the head a few inches, then cut the ends off. Believe it or not, it worked great! One deployment, I let another one of the girls give me a perm. That didn’t work out quite as well, lol.

Too late to enter, but I wanted to share a fun memory. :-)

  451. Lisa says:

I tried cutting my own hair once. Let’s just say it ended badly.
