So, this morning I drove down to Southern Marin for a dental appointment, and sigh… What I can I say? I feel like I’ve gone to the dentist every other day this summer. Heck, though, I’m thankful for modern dentistry, because I can only imagine medieval dentistry being a million times worse.
I left Novato super early to avoid the weekday traffic, and what’s usually an hour-long drive took only 30 minutes. Surprisingly, traffic wasn’t too bad today, so I ended up with time to spare in my old stomping grounds of Mill Valley. Small victories! Since we got there so quickly, I took Connor to this place El Hub and I used to go jogging around called Blackie’s Pasture, which is in the lovely Town of Tiburon.
There are usually people jogging and walking their dogs, and, on sunny days, you can see Sausalito on the right, Belvedere Island on the left and San Francisco across the Bay.
There was a fog bank hanging around today, so we couldn’t really make out SF in the distance, but I could kinda see a little bit of the skyline.
I’ve always loved the colors here. This time of year, the grass dries and turns a rich golden yellow, and I love the way it looks below the blue sky and the ocean…
Connor had a grand old time, of course. She said hi to everyone she saw and tried to chase down seven or eight dogs. At one point, I just gave up counting. Apparently, she thought that we were going to take ALL THE ANIMALS home with us. Silly baby.
It’s trippy taking Connor to places where I used to spend a lot of time because I remember them a certain way in my mind, but now it’s different sharing them with a new tiny person, if that make any sense? I dunno… I probably spend too much time in my head.
Anywho, if you’re ever in Southern Marin, pop by Blackie’s Pasture for the views and a nice walk. It’s free, and there’s a good amount of parking (just be sure to hide any valuables in your car, because there were some break-ins a few years back).
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Ahhhh, I miss living in Southern Marin!!

I miss some things, like the amazing views of SF and the bay. I don’t really miss the fog, though! Give me warm weather any day. 🙂

Makes total sense. I moved back to my hometown with my kids and live in the house I grew up in and new memories layer over old ones and sometimes it seems almost too much to take.

So pretty! How fun to share that with C. 🙂

I’d chase down all the puppies too, Connor Claire. I just saw a TINY puppy in his yard down the street, a tiny little collie or sheltie. OMG. I want to go back and creep on it.

Karen… I’m one of “those” with the epic view… always always in change. Weather on the meadow here is pretty hearty with storms and wind. We love this part of Marin. So close to SF. Early morning is 17mins and in the offices. Next time stop in. We’re the house with the stone roof. Will share coffee and stories about makeup.. what else?? Ur girl so so sweet…best

Hi Jane,
Oh, I’d love that! When I lived in Mill Valley, I’d run by that row of houses and imagine all the happy memories of the families (and cats!) inside. There was one house with a picket fence that I loved… I wonder if it’s yours? I’d always see a cat sleeping in the middle of the dining room table.
I will send you an email. 🙂 Let’s get together soon!

I have loved sharing places Dear Husband and I used to go with Dear Daughter. Never gets old.
My brother and sister-in-law used to live in Tiburon, but she hated it so they moved to Kansas.
I love taking the ferry from Tiburon to Angel Island. We used to see people with babies and toddlers in backpacks as they hiked their way to the top. Not sure I could have made it to the top of Angel Island carrying my girl. Luckily, she was old enough to hike to the top by herself when we did it.
Karen says
Hi Tatiana,
Tiburon to Kansas is a huge jump! I think the town is geographically pretty, but sleepy. There’s not much to do.
Ooh, maybe I’ll try trekking to the top of Angel Island with Connor before the summer is over!
Tatiana says
Just a warning, it’s quite a hike to get to the top of Angel Island. I want to do it again, but I’m so out of shape, I’m sure I’d have to stop half a dozen times to catch my breath. Maybe El Hubs can carry Connor!
Once you make it to the top, the view of the Bay Area is stunning!! That is, if it’s a sunny day. Never can tell with SF fog. Oh and be sure to pack some snacks, a picnic lunch and water!
Karen says
I’m a glutton for punishment because I love doing hills! 🙂 No doubt that it’s going to be hard though. We’ll see… Maybe we’ll just end up getting a hotdog and take a leisurely walk around the shore.
Tatiana says
Well, either way, it’s sure to be a beautiful day.

That’s awesome you were able to share a special place with Connor! 🙂
Dude, what is going on with your teeth? I know how much you hate the dentist so I’m kind of feeling stressed for you. I hope all is well.
Also, the first pic of Connor, where she’s pointing. I immediately thought of the Pizza Parlor pic from MiB 2. Maybe she was showing you the key to the train locker where you would be Queen. All Hail (the other) K! 😉
