[big yawn…]
Howzit, ladies? Good (belated) morning to ya. 🙂 I slept in again with a little help from Tabs. He makes it easy to lose track of time. Simply put, sleeping late with a cat beside me on the bed is one of the greatest pleasures in life.
What did you do last night? My plans changed at the last minute because El Hub ended up not going on his bromance, so we went out to dinner and a movie instead. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? Have you seen it? Swiss or Swedish, I think… I can’t remember which, but I thought it was great.
A pair of investigators, one a girl computer hacker and the other a reporter dude for an underground newspaper, get mixed up in a wealthy family’s twisted conspiracy surrounding the disappearance of a young girl in 1966.
LOTS of awful, sadistic men in the story, but the hacker girl character flat-out rules!
Back to beauty then — what was your favorite product this past week? Was it an old standby or something new?
Physicans Formula Healthy Wear Bronzer: A Trifecta of Skin Lurving Benefits?
“Now here I go being all wrong about bronzers… I always thought they were for adding a warm, almost-tanned look to skin. Not true, says Physicians Formula, or rather, that’s not all they can do. New Healthy Wear Bronzer gives a sun-kissed glow but couples it with healthful skin benefits.”
MAC Unsung Heroes: Lychee Luxe Lipglass
“Lychee Luxe is the coral lipgloss Goldilocks would have worn because it bears (ha!) a perfect amount of golden pinkish coral… And, oooh! — the flexibility. It goes great with so many different eye makeup looks, like all of the seasonal golds, bronzes, coppers, teals and greens of summer.”
Rimmel Glam Eyes Lash Flirt Mascara, A Haiku Review
For mad length and lift, $7 Rimmel Glam Eyes Mascara delivers. It’s perfect for those midnight runs to Rite Aid or CVS, and it lasts from dusk till dawn.
MBBTV #11: Philosophy Coloring Book Gets a Bad … Rap
Have you played with any of the makeup palettes Philosophy has been coming out with these lately? This one — called The Color of Grace — gets a bad rap. Well, that’s a little misleading, 🙂 but you be the judge.
CORRECTION: You CAN Touch Chanel Noir Et Or
“Of the four pieces in the collection, I’m digging the polishes the most ($25 each). Black Velvet, Gold Lame and Illusion d’or all have that classic Chanel polish texture you know and love — thick (but not too thick) and smooth, with a gorgeous, glossy finish that just says, ‘Chanel.'”
It’s No Secret: MAC Hush Cream Colour Base Is the Bomb Diggity
“MAC’s Cream Colour Base in Hush ($16.50) isn’t a new product (it’s part of the permanent line)… Like the rest of the Cream Colour Bases, shimmery Hush feels like a creamy blush to the touch. I’ve been using it all sorts of different ways, but my favorite way? — using it as a highlighter.”
Is Physicians Formula Healthy Wear Tinted Moisturizer Drugstore Duping Laura Mercier?
“It also reminds me of Laura Mercier’s Oil Free tinted moisturizer — my fave tinted moisturizer of all time — because it rocks a similar buildable medium-to-full coverage that doesn’t look heavy or feel greasy on my face…”

Love the “Swiss or Swedish” thing 😀 I’m Danish, so it’s kinda funny too me, since Swedish and Danish is almost similar 🙂 Great movie though, “Mænd der hader kvinder”, came out here a year’s time ago. You should really watch the books though, they’re amazing.
The rap has to be the best post of the week. Hilarious! 😀
iben says
By the way, is that official trailer? My OCD is kicking in, I see typos in the subtitles 😮 :p
Karen says
Even though I don’t understand a lick of the language, I had a feeling the subtitles might’ve been off! There were segments of convo that seemed disjointed… I figured it had to be stuff that was lost in translation, ya know?

Great movie and amazing books!!
And Lisbeths character totally rocks.
Kelly says
I haven’t seen the movie yet but read the first two books of the series and they are most excellent books! Too bad the author died 🙁

I’ve seen the book in the store and didn’t realize it was a series. Bummer about the author passing… think of all the things that could’ve happened in the story line that we’ll never know about, sigh.
Faye says
Hey Karen! I’ve been so busy that I haven’t read/posted here in a while. Today I spent some quality time checking up on all your posts from the past two weeks.
Anyway, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is Swedish. It’s part of a trilogy of books, and although the author died, he wrote all three before doing so, so the story is finished. I got the last book in England, but it should be coming out here soon if it hasn’t done so already. They’re all long but I HIGHLY recommend them — they are difficult to read because of the violent parts but the mystery/thriller part is gripping!
Hope you’re having a nice weekend — you and Tabs are looking faboo as always :)!
Karen says
Hi Faye!
It’s nice to hear from you. Being busy is great (makes the time go so fast!), but I hope that things mellow out for you this week so you can recharge for a bit.
Hmm, maybe I’ll read the series after I finish my current book. Dunno if I’ll be able to handle the violent parts, though. The movie had some shocking moments that I wasn’t expecting that definitely made my tummy turn. 🙁
How’s your weekend going, btw? Doing anything fun today?
KarenW says
I was going to go watch TGWTDT yesterday, but had to deal with some husband emergency dental problems instead. Boo!
You should definitely check out the books. The second one (The Girl Who Played With Fire) is even better than the first one (and a bit less stomach-turning).

I was eyeing that book (Girl with a Dragon Tattoo) last time I was at Borders. The guy who worked there said it was really good … but im so behind in my reading that I decided not to buy it yet!

Great books, and good movie too.
The actress playing Lisbeth has real charisma!
I’ve read that Hollywood has bought the rights and is planning a remake with US actors, so I didn’t think it would be on US screens but it is.
I also went to see a movie tonight, It’s “The ghost” with Ewan mc Gregor and Pierce Brosnan. nice movie, quite classical but efficient, a bit disappointed by the end though… Watching Ewan during 2 hours is worth it anyway!!!
bye

Thanks for the kitteh roulette link, it is really addictive for a cat lady as I am!

Hubby and I saw that movie and really enjoyed it (in spite of a few stomach-churning scenes)! I also found the book at Costco so I grabbed that too (I’m a few chapters in, it’s a slow starter)! I really want to finish the first book so I can pick up the second and see what happens to Lisbeth next! 🙂

I saw that movie last fall at a film festival and loved it. The director did a Q&A after and explained that someone else is going to be making the sequel as a mini-series for Swedish tv. It’ll be recut as a feature film. I’m hoping it’ll hold up to the first movie.
AnneCath says
There are actually three films in this series (corresponding with the three books) and they are all really good – in a stomach churning way. The last one was shown in theaters late last year here in Norway so I guess it could be making its way across the pond to you guys soon.
Perri says
If you liked the movie definitely check out Stieg Larsson’s books. They are captivating and violent page-turners. I haven’t seen the movies yet so I’ll have to give those a go.
