Good morning, sweet pea! Welcome to November. 🙂
Ya know what? I feel like doing another open thread for the Monday Poll this week. I feel like we have a lot to talk about, like what you did for Halloween (did you scare anyone, or did anyone scare you?), any cool costumes you saw and whether you ate as many mini Snickers bars as I did (I had A LOT).
I’ll also eat Milky Way bars in a pinch.
It’s an open thread, so any topics are fair game, like makeup, cats, movies, baking, boots, cats, makeup, blogging, dating, career questions, school, cats, boots, accessories, scented candles, cats…
See you in the comments. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’ve been eating mini Almond Joys!
Mina and Jiji are officially bffs (best feline friends) and she is no longer restricted to her bedroom when we’re away. Plus, she’s stopped trying to wrestle Quincy when he’s out hopping, which is definitely good. Everyone gets along!
Karen says
That’s wonderful! I’m glad to hear that they’re getting along. So what did you end up doing with the costume situation?
Chelsea says
I was a fairy, didn’t have time to put together a second costume with Quincy’s vet visits and homework. I put on a witch hat with black dress and boots for a non costume day too.
Karen says
Honestly, sometimes I wish we (the adults) could just wear costumes any day of the year. It would make life much more interesting and fun!
Rachel R. says
Good morning! Halloween was kind of slow here: It poured rain all day and most of the evening. Usually I give away 10-20 lbs. of bulk candies. This year it was maybe 5 lbs. My older son dressed as a vampire and gave out the candy, because I have to stay off my foot injury. I wore Halloween color makeup for fun, but didn’t go for a full costume. He and I watched The Nightmare Before Christimas, The Addams Family movie, and Monty Python. We had fun. My younger son had his best friend over, and they played video games in his room all night. They did venture out for pizza and snacks. lol
And for you, my hubby’s Banana Bread recipe. I’m sorry it took so long to get it to you. He didn’t have it written down anywhere. It has a really nice cake-like texture. I think you’ll like it.
BANANA BREAD
*Have all ingredients at room temperature, 68-70 degrees F. Put rack on lower third of the oven. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8.5” x 4.5” (6-cup) loaf pan.
*Whisk together thoroughly in a bowl:
1 1/3 c. all-purpose flour
¼ tsp. salt
½ tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. freshly grated nutmeg
*In a large bowl, beat on high speed until lightened in color and texture, approximately 2-3 mins.:
6 Tbsp. softened unsalted butter
1/3 c. granulated white sugar
1/3 c. light brown sugar
Beat in the flour mixture, adding a little at a time until blended and the consistency of brown sugar.
*Gradually beat in until combined:
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
*Fold in until just combined:
1 c. mashed, very ripe bananas (about 2 average-sized bananas)
½ c. coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans (optional). You can also add in a 1/2 c. of chocolate chips, if you like.
*Scrape the batter into the pan and spread evenly. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 50-60 mins. Let cool in the pan, on a rack, for 5-10 mins. Unmold and let cool completely on the rack.
Karen says
Good morning Rachel! Sounds like you guys had a fun night. We did pretty much the same thing; El Hub and I drove up to go see his parents, and then we stayed at home and handed out candy to kids. We ordered a pizza and watched a movie. Very chill but still very fun.
Did you do your son’s vampire makeup!? I hope there you got some special effects up in the mix.
So, it turns out that I have a handful of overripe bananas that are READY for banana bread. I just printed out your hubby’s recipe. The only thing I don’t have online is the white sugar and the nutmeg, but I can get that from the grocery store later on today. YAY! I can’t wait to bake it. THANK YOU!
Rachel R. says
YW; I hope you like the banana bread. I’m glad to hear you had a nice Halloween.
I did my son’s vampire makeup, but I didn’t do special effects stuff. He has Asperger’s Disorder, so there are some patience and sensory issues. I couldn’t do anything too involved. We covered his redness, used white Manic Panic foundation mixed with a little of my regular shade, lots of grayish-brown contouring to chisel/hollow out his features more, lots of layered brown and black smudgy eyeshadow to make his eyes look sunken and tired, and he wanted black lips (I wanted to do a more corpse-like color), and a little bit of painted blood dribbles coming from the corners of his mouth. He looked more like a sexy goth than a scary Dracula, IMO. He was happy, though. The teens who came to our door complimented his makeup, so I guess it was OK.

I have to make the most of this open thread and the fact today is holiday in Mexico, as I haven’t commented in a while; as always finals are coming so I may not have a lot of time the next weeks.
I’ll start saying you’re the one of the most gorgeous pregnant woman I’ve seen, again remember you’ll be the best mom for baby girl <3
About baking, have you tried Pan de muerto? I love this season only for it. IDK how easy is to get it where you live but if there's a Mexican bakery near you should go and buy one.
About makeup and skincare, right now in on the fence about Christmas shopping, don't know if I should splurge in something pretty or better buy all the essentials I need.
About dating and everything between: why is so complicated? The good news is that I met a guy in the club on Halloween that looks promising but we'll see what happens.
Finally about stuff of in my life: I'll be part of the pride parade in my city as a volunteer (I'll be at the front *gulp*) and I was thinking about going with a red or vampy lip that says "look at me, I'm FABULOUS" any rec? (please not really expensive). Also I'm looking forward the answer for a scholarship I asked in a Spanish university *fingers crossed*.
Well I almost worte a letter but I think is not a problem in an open thread 😉
Karen says
Hi Efrain,
I hope you’re enjoying the holiday so far. I know it’s time off for you but have you managed to get in any studying? Better to start early than to leave it all to the last minute (I know this so well from experience)>
Anyway, it’s always so good to hear from you. Thank you for the sweet compliment! I hope that I can be the best mom that I can for her. I feel ready. 🙂
I’ve never had pan de muerto before but wow, it looks delicious. Where I live there’s a fairly big Mexican community so we have a few stores; maybe I’ll check their bakery section soon. We have a kinda similar looking bread in the Philippines called pan de sal, and it’s so good first thing in the morning with a hot cup of coffee. Mmm, carbs! lol
Re: Christmas shopping. I do have to say that it’s so satisfying to finish those everyday essentials, and that I’d rather allocate more to the stuff I know that I’d use every day than on the things that I’ll only take out every once in a while. Maybe do a splurge on a palette or something that you know you could get a lot of use out of? Or a highlighter or a bronzer?
I hope that things with the guy you met over Halloween work out. When I was dating I used to think that it was impossible to meet someone at a bar or a club, but then I’d think, “Well, my friends and I are here, and we’re nice people, so chances are we could run into some nice guys as well.” You just never know. What’s he like? Have you talked to him yet?
Anyway, do you have access to L’Oreal? They have a great line of reds right now that are beautiful and long wearing. My favorite is Blake’s Red:
https://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/cosmetics/loreal-colour-riche-collection-red-lipcolor/
Keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get that scholarship!
Efrain says
Carbs are good! I don’t really understand how people can be carb-free I LOVE THEM. Pan de sal looks similar but for the name I imply it is salty and not sweet like Pan de muerto.
I’ll see what I do with Christmas shopping but even though my heart aches for saying this I rather buy all the skincare I need than a gorgeous palette, you know skincare is a long-term inversion.
About the guy well he’s nice, we talked for a long time in the club (we get out of it at 7am) so I really want to see how it goes in another ambient; we’re going for breakfast on Wednesday. I’m not sure about knowing people in clubs because I think is worse in dating apps, at least on real life you can say no easily.
I’ll search that lipstick, because I’m not sure that collection arrived here.
Thank you for being nice and cross your fingers with me 🙂
And don’t worry I’ll start with part of the homework.
Holly says
I say go all out for the parade! Sometimes for me, makeup gives me that extra boost of confidence & that confidence really makes me shine. As an introvert, that helps social situations go a little smoother for me & when I feel fabulous, other people are attracted to my confidence! And whatever color lip you choose to do, Karen recently posted a lip lining tutorial on YouTube & it’s super-helpful.
As for Christmas shopping, Spehora & Ulta both have great gift sets, so you get a nice splurge of lip or eye products without spending a ton of money & you can still stock up on essentials.
Good luck in the parade! You are totally going to rock!
Efrain says
Hi Holly!
I think you’re right I need that extra boost of confidence that day, in fact it’s my first parade so I’m excited and nervous at the same time. Do you have any rec in red or vampy drugstore lipsticks?
I’ll look at Sephora because here in Mexico Ulta doesn’t exist (I know it’s awful)
I’ll post some photos the next Saturday, I hope you can see them.
Holly says
I’d love to see your photos! I have a few red lippies from the drugstore although I don’t wear them often. Revlon’s Cherries in the Snow is a classic color; Cover Girl’s #30 in their Star Wars collection is a little darker & has a sparkle to it; & if you’re looking for a deep berry, I love NYX’s mat lippie called MLS30. That one is buildable in color for me; if I do one application, it’s more raspberry & if I do multiple applications, it’s more a merlot shade. Plus, it has great staying power!
Efrain says
I hope you don’t get any headache!
Tomorrow I’ll be heading to the store which sells NYX in my city but as far as online swatches go NYX’s lippie looks promising there’s also a red that looks awesome.
So I’ll tell you how it went and which lippie I chose.
Lulle says
For Halloween we went to Balboa Park’s Organ Pavilion, they were doing an outdoor screening of the Phantom of the Opera (the original silent movie) with an organist playing live. It was really cool!
On our way back home we were chased by a few zombies… A lot of cool costumes around.
Karen says
How cool! I love listening to a live organ. There’s a theater in SF where they have a guy who plays it before the show starts. And LOL re the zombies — did ya get bit?!
Kiss & Make-up says
At one point last Saturday le hubby and I were just DEVOURING the left-over mini Snicker bars, it was BAD! And then when we finished those we moved on to the mini Toblerones, whups, lol.
Karen says
I don’t think I’ve ever seen mini Toblerones. Is Halloween a big deal where you live?
Kiss & Make-up says
Nah, it’s not really a big deal – at least not for most people – but some people do celebrate it a bit, moi included 🙂
Sara says
Hi Karen! Hope you had a good weekend:) I did a lot of eating over the weekend- Halloween candy for sure and I baked brownies and cookies for my nephews birthday party so I have some extra laying around which isn’t good! I also had a huge piece of a cake at this party yesterday. So bad. I just planned my meals for the week and trying to be extra healthy. I found this great recipe on Pinterest for Chinese chicken salad…I just made a huge bowl to have for lunch for the week. It’s so good! Some other things on the menu are slow cooker honey maple Dijon chicken thighs in the slow cooker for tonight. Also have planned a quinoa vegetable soup, A roasted brussel sprouts pasta and healthy orange chicken. I’m usually very healthy and for a while even went dairy, sugar and gluten free but since becoming pregnant I have the appetite of a football player and the diet of a child. It’s getting better though. I’m trying to save my treats for the weekend like I used to do. I’m already looking forward to baking my favorite pumpkin coffee cake for next weekend.
On a makeup and skincare note….sephoras vib sale starts on Friday! I have already started my list! Usually I just stock up on my usuals, and some Christmas gifts. I don’t have anything new to try on my list except possibly a fragrance. I have been wearing Elizabeth and James nirvana white for a while but really want to try out Gucci II.
Karen says
Hi Sara,
I did have a good weekend, thank you! El Hub and I drove up north to visit his parents and spent Halloween up there. It was really chill; we ordered a pizza, watched a movie, and handed out candy to the kids.
So, funny, but I made brownies too! I made walnut brownies with orange-colored chocolate chips for Halloween. What kind did you make? And what kind of cookies?
You just reminded me that I need to do some meal planning. Since we were out last weekend I haven’t had a chance to go to the grocery store. Speaking of slow cooker recipes, I just saw this on Pinch of Yum and book marked it for the future and thought you might be interested:
http://pinchofyum.com/12-easy-recipes-you-can-make-in-a-slow-cooker
And woo hoo for Sephora VIB! So what’s on your list?
Sara says
I just saw that on pinch of yum also! I’m all about the slow cooker especially this time of year!
I saw your brownies on instagram! I did the ghiardlli ones. The only baked good I don’t bake from scratch because I have yet to find a recipe that beats it, The cookies were chocolate chip…they are staring at me from the kitchen counter right now.
I have nothing fun on my sephora list:( Stocking up on my usuals- first aid beauty stuff, a couple of clarisonic brush heads, my nars sheer glow foundation, brow pencils- stuff that like! I actually was going to ask you if you had a favorite mascara at the moment, i have been using benefit roller lash which I love but might want to try something new when I go!
Karen says
Answer the call to those brownies, girl! They need to find a tummy to love them. LOL!
Honestly my Sephora list is so boring too. Pimple cream, dry shampoo, face moisturizer — completely boring! So regarding mascara, I’m in a funny place. Ever since I got pregnant, my lashes have pretty much refused to hold a curl. Even the Estee Lauder Little Black Primer and Chanel Le Volume combo I was doing for a while isn’t cutting it now, but it’s the closest thing I’ve got to lash happiness because with it I get good thickness and length. I’ve been wearing bareMinerals Lash Domination for the past few days and it’s just OK in terms of curl hold. If I find anything that rocks my world I’ll be sure to let you know!
Amoure Jones says
Happy November,
Unfortunately no: little monsters, angels, princesses or costume wearing children came around this year. Not one. I’m really not surprised because I’ve been in the neighborhood for over 20 years now and so all of the kids (which was us) have grown up. Now it’s our parents who live in these homes and barely any children around. Plus, they usually go to the festivities held at: schools, and malls because it’s much safer these days.
I wont lie and say I didn’t have any candy because I snagged a few mini Snickers bars, bite-size Twix and a couple of boxes of DOTS even though I’m suppose to be fruit and veggie detoxing. I’ve had my fill of candy though so I’m back on my cleanse. Flush out all of the bad to make room for the good.
I’ve been in the hospital for pneumonia twice in the passed 2 wks it’s really time I assist my system in getting in order. Eating right is definitely helpful.
Have a wonderful and beautifully blessed day.
Karen says
Hi Amoure,
I think something similar happens around the neighborhood I live in now too. There are very few trick-or-treaters; just a handful of kids. Where my parents live there’s usually a steady stream of kids that come all night long!
How’s the cleanse going? Have you discovered any delicious juices?
Daniela says
Hi Karen,
I just came back from a long weekend visiting friends in London, going to a U2 concert (great!), going to museums and doing some shopping. I bought a couple of things from NARS which I never tested before. So I’m looking forward to try them this week when I started a new job (same clients, same colleagues but new boss).
Good to see that you and baby girl are fine!!!
Karen says
Hi Daniela,
How fun! I’ve always wanted to see U2 in concert (it’s on my list of things to do in this lifetime, LOL!). Lucky you!
So tell me about your NARS haul. I’d love to hear about it!
Daniela says
I bought the All Day Luminous Powder Foundation in Light 4 Deauville (I prefer powder over liquid foundation), the contour blush in Paloma, a Kabuki brush, two lipglosses in Turkish Delight and Istria (both on the neutral side) and the Audacious Mascara with a nice brush that is similar to the Chanel ones.
I’m really looking forward to test these because I haven’t found them in Germany anywhere yet.
U2 was fab. It was a great mixture of old and new, a great acoustic-piano version of Every breaking wave and some cool video/ light show.
Karen says
Oh great choices! I think you’ll especially love the contouring blush and the glosses. I wear all Turkish Delight all the time. Another fave is Chihuahua. Which Kabuki brush did you get? I’m thinking about putting the Ita one on my wishlist (there’s a Sephora sale starting on soon).
That show sounds amazing, by the way. Do you go to London often to watch concerts?
Daniela says
I bought a really flat one, with a flat handle as well, will see, if it works, ah I just checked it, it is the Ita, will tell you how it is.
I lived in London for a year, during this time I saw lots of concerts and musicals (Beyonce, Kylie, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, just to name a few), now only from time to time, I combined this with visiting some friends.
Ruchita says
Happy Monday! I had to work both Saturday and Sunday. I did get to work from home though, so it wasn’t too bad.
I bought 13 bags of candy for Halloween and I ran out about half hour before the official end time. So many kids!
I got a few pics of Mingus in his shark costume. He was a pretty good sport about it. I think the costume was a bit big, but he still looked cute. 🙂
Tonight my Mom invited us over to dinner. I love having homemade Indian food. It’s just never the same when I try to make it at home. I’ve been looking forward to it all day!
Hope you and the family had a good weekend!
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
Wow, that’s crazy! 13 bags of candy?! You guys get a ton of kids, that’s awesome! I hope you managed to sneak in a few bites for yourself.
And awww, I bet Mingy was the cutest shark ever. 🙂
That’s cool that you can go visit your mom for dinner. And I hear you — whenever I try to make my own Filipino food it’s never the same. Does she live close to you guys?
This weekend was great. El Hub and I drove up to his family’s house and spent the Halloween with them. It was super chill. We ordered a pizza, rented a movie, and handed out candy! I love seeing all the costumes on the kids. 🙂
Ruchita says
Yes, of course I had to do some quality control. 🙂 Twix and Kit Kat dark chocolate were my treats of choice.
Our subdivision is pretty big and people will drive in from other areas to trick-or-treat. They are still building new houses, so I may need to get more next year!
My parents are about 20 minutes away from where we live. They still live in the same house where I grew up. I work in the same city, so it’s easy to head over after work.
Your weekend sounds great. Pizza and a movie at home is my kind of fun! My husband is really into craft cocktails and mixology so he was making me some fall themed drinks after trick or treating was over. 🙂
Karen says
It’s a tough job but somebody’s gotta do it. I quality controlled the Snickers and the Milky Way bars quite a few times. Ya know, just to be thorough. 😉 Did the drinks that your hubby make go with the candy?
It blows my mind that people drive their kids places to go trick-or-treating. Why didn’t that occur to me when I was a kid? LOL! I could’ve covered so much ground.
Have fun at your parents’ house tonight. Do you know what your mom is making yet?
Ruchita says
I know! When I was a kid, I just stayed in my little neighborhood. Oh and one girl came dressed as a crazy cat lady! She had her hair in curlers and this robe with cats sewn across the bottom. It was great!
I don’t even remember the various drinks, but I think they had pumpkin and apple flavors. He makes his own flavored syrups with apple and pumpkin and various spices and mixed them into the drinks. I was just the taste tester. 🙂
My mom is making south Indian food. It’s not as common as north Indian food that is found in restaurants. She’s making something called masala dosa, which is like a pancake filled with a spiced potato mixture. She’s one of those cooks that never follows an exact recipe and just works her magic.
Do you ever cook Filipino food at home? I make Indian food sometimes, but it can be kind of time consuming sometimes.
Leah G. says
Hi Karen!
We only had 2 groups of trick-or-treaters since most of the kids have all grown up in the neighborhood. I’d rather just have kids that we know versus folks I know that have 100s!
I volunteered on Friday night at Tales of the Night. It’s a fun night put on by the farm that I volunteer at. I got to work the Haunted Hayride!
Happy November. We’re having a beautiful week here in New England (rare for November that’s for sure).
I brought my leftover Halloween candy in to work rather than eating the entire bowl myself. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Leah,
Happy November to you too! I hope that you’re enjoying the weather. It’s been cloudy and drizzly here all day with little slivers of sunshine (which I’m trying to enjoy when it happens).
Working the Haunted Hayride sounds fun! What did you do? Did you dress up in costume and scare the kids?
Leah G. says
Hi Karen!
There were 3 hayrides running and the folks that had to dress up and scare the kids were all HS and college kids. They did an amazing job! I got to tell everyone the rules once they were all loaded in and tell the tractor driver we were ready to go. My responsibility was to psych the riders up for each scene (“Oh my gosh ZOMBIES!”) and to shine a flashlight to the riders could see each time we got to something scary (at the feet of the characters as to not blind them). Good stuff! 🙂 It was screaming kids and nervously laughing adults the whole time. One kid kept yelling “make it stop!” while another was yelling “turn it off.” There were some kids that loved it and wanted to ride it again. 🙂
Karen says
SO FUN! Ya know, I have to say that I love going on those types of rides. As an adult you know what you’re getting into but it’s still a lot of fun! I’m sure you helped to make some really great memories of the evening for so many kids, that’s awesome!
Holly says
Hi Karen! I don’t usually get to participate on Mondays but I’m working a little later today. We’ve had storms the past three days up here in Washington state with occasional sunny patches & the rapid weather changes trigger migraines. As a result, I’ve been laying low & taking care of myself so that I don’t get a full blown headache. It kinda sucks because I ADORE stormy weather!
I did make it to Target & was thrilled to find they still had some of the CoverGirl Star Wars makeup left. I decided on the red lipstick which has a little sparkle in it–outside of my comfort zone but not as much as the lilac would’ve been.
I’ve actually stepped out of my introvert’s comfort zone a number of times this year. I’ve struggled (and still do) with self image issues, shyness (which is often seen as b*tchiness), & there’s the whole dating thing which is an entirely different story. My point is, I’m super-thankful for my friends & online acquaintances who have encouraged me to take small steps out of the zone & into new experiences.
Karen says
Hi Holly,
Ugh, migraines are the worst! I hope that you feel better soon. I’ve had them before and they’re awful. You know what really helped me? Migrelief (I’d get mine at Vitamin Shoppe) and the WellPatch Cooling Patches. I haven’t had to use them in a while (knock on wood) but I find the two very effective.
Anywho, I’m so happy to hear that you’ve been able to step out of your comfort zone. I’m sure it isn’t easy. I can kind of relate because I was a very shy child and it took me a while to pop out of my shell. It took a lot of work (when I was a teenager I took drama classes and public speaking even though it terrified me) but in the end I found it all very helpful. I hope that all the small steps lead to even bigger steps! I know you can do it. 🙂
Holly says
Thank you for the migraine treatment ideas. I try everything I possibly can, because sometimes an old reliable fix just doesn’t work. And thank you for the encouragement; the funny thing is, I have no problem being onstage in front of people. I was in drama at various times all through school, involved in my church choir & ensemble, & narrated plays. It’s the smaller, more intimate groups where I freeze up! Probably because they are more intimate & it’s harder to maintain a facade as opposed to playing someone onstage.
Tulipthecat says
I went to a Halloween Party with my nieces and nephew. My brother’s friends were hosting a Halloween potluck. I ate so much food on Saturday!
Tulip was wearing her superhero cape but it kept turning around and covering the front of her so she couldn’t jump so I had to take it off. My mom said we had lots of kids come by the house – she finished 2 costco size candy bags.
I thought of you when I saw my niece. She was rainbow dash for Halloween.
Did you watch the Walking Dead last night? The episode was pretty good but I want to know what happened to Glen!
Karen says
How fun! Did your nieces and nephew have a good time? I hope you took a lot of pictures (they grow up so fast). What kind of food did you have at the potluck?
And yes, I watched The Walking Dead and I was kind of disappointed that they didn’t pick up on the Glenn story. I was all excited that the special 90-minute episode would give me some closure but noooooo!
Tulipthecat says
It was my niece’s first time to go trick or treating so they had a great time. My brothers took pictures at our house with my parents before we left. The kids had so much fun apparently my niece Lylah, who was dressed up as rainbow dash, had her sister draw on her face with a marker. My brother noticed it the next day.
The potluck had meatballs, chicken tortilla soup, smoked turkey, cupcakes, brownies, ice cream sandwiches, and lots of pizza for the kids. We also had veggies, dips, and chips. Our friend has a beagle she adopted that was a rescue from china and she was so cute. She loved all the small toddler kids.
Yes, I was a little sad about not seeing what happened to Rick and Glenn but the story was pretty good. I saw the commercial for Badlands and I think I might watch that when it comes out.
Next weekend I’m planning on making persimmon cookies. My brother has a tree and brings them over when he comes from Vallejo.
Tulip was a little meowing last weekend. When I would walk away to another room and she couldn’t see me she would meow in a really loud voice. Jazmine was meowing last night in front of my Dad’s door. This morning they were chasing each other and I hear a thump. The ran up against the door at my mom’s room and push the door open and just kept on chasing each other. So weird….
Lauren says
I can’t bake because I literally can’t figure out my oven in the UK. it has weird pictures. I would youtube what they meant, but in 3 weeks I’ve managed to break every appliance! ;-/
Karen says
How odd! What kind of weird pictures?! Are they pictures of the food you can make in the oven?
Lauren says
Girl, I wish!! I think the pictures are flames, but each setting has a different flame! I tell my hub the “flames” look like almond shaped finger nails…he believes I’ve lost it! 😉
Lauren says
There is also a separate knob-y thing -y that is in celcius which I actually know, but can’t used since I broke the almond flame finger nail knobs!
LindaLibraLoca says
Nothing exciting her for Halloween, not even trick-or-treaters coming to our place. And I had candy prepared! I guess I´ll have to eat it all by myself then…
Karen says
It’s a tough job but somebody’s gotta do it!
LindaLibraLoca says
Well, sometimes a girl has to do what a girl has to do. I´ll blame any weight gain on the baby!
Sandy P says
We live in a condo. Even though both our neighbors have children we still had no one come to our door. Since this happened last year I did NOT buy candy but bought snack size bags of chips. I would have eaten every last bit of chocolate if we had leftovers!!
Karen says
Hi Sandy P,
Same thing used to happen when we lived in an apartment building. We *never* got any trick-or-treaters even though there were kids in the building. I think maybe it’s because now kids go to the mall to trick-or-treat. There also seems to be designated streets that are known as the trick-or-treating neighborhoods.
That was smart of you to buy the chips! I’ll have to remember to do that in the future, LOL!
Trude says
I’ve only been in my current place since January, so I wasn’t sure what Halloween would bring and bought a Tootsie Roll mixed bag just in case, but we didn’t get anybody. So my fiance and I just went ahead and dived in. Tootsie Pops are the best! 😉
Jennifer says
I do not have a lot of excitement to report. This was the first year that Mr. 12 (who turns 13 in April) did not want to go trick or treating, claiming he was too old. However, he had initially, as of a few weeks ago, planned to go. So, this was a giant disappointment for me because I’m a sugar addict. Having a child trick-or-treater getting scads of free candy is one of the perks of motherhood.
Senor Rabanne and his brother, Blue, refused to wear their costumes. So all in all, it was a fail.
Agata says
Hi Karen! I had a good weekend. Me and myb bf went to a Halloween party on Friday. Then on sat I went with him and his son trick or treating. It was my first time so it was kind of exciting and fun!
I made a short stop at Ulta on Sunday, I had to pick up some loose powder as I ran out of my UD Naked powder.
Kalli says
My Halloween was totally uneventful, but I had a crappy week so I didn’t mind staying at home to do nothing. No trick or treaters at my apartment complex either, but I think most of the families attend the “trunk or treat” at the YMCA across the street earlier in the week. On Sunday, I visited my dad’s gravesite to decorate it with mini pumpkins. His birthday is on October 30 and my mom always made him a Halloween themed cake. It rained from Thursday to Saturday, so Sunday was the first day I could go and it worked out since it was Dia de los Muertos so it felt appropriate.
I did stop by Ulta to use my 20% coupon and I bought a few of the new Nyx Liquid Suede liquid lipsticks, as well as Soap & Glory’s Righteous Butter. The lipsticks are alright, I love the colors I got (especially Vintage, a very 90s brown-based dark red) and they feel nice on, but they are a little sticky, don’t dry down completely and get sort of patchy and all in my lip lines as they wear. I really love the Righteous Butter! I don’t typically go for scented body butters and lotions, but this is heavenly and it’s so thick! It feels really nice. My favorite body butters are from this little online indie shop called Haus of Gloi. Their pumpkin butters (called so because they contain pumpkin seed oil) will last through a full day and a shower! You should definitely check them out, I love everything I’ve tried from them and their scents are really interesting, http://www.hausofgloi.com

Hello from Memphis/North Mississippi area! I worked Halloween but husband said we had not one trick or treater. He did, however, treat my dog Bella to some salami that she gobbled up like I would an almond joy candy bar. On the cosmetic front, I was not able to get to shop for cosmetics due to work constraints last week but I think this week I may try MAC mocha or melba blush maybe…and I need another mascara…and eyeliner…and nailpolish…I guess I should pace myself before another $300 goes. On the food front, I do not bake, I burn. I can cook, however, even making my own pasta and pizza from scratch. However, common sense is lacking in my department with any baked good and the oven. Thank goodness husband is good with sweets and whipped us up some no-bake cookies this week. (which I could have probably tried my hand at them since baking wasn’t involved.) Anyway, I hope you have a fantastic week with good weather, peace of mind, and wonderful novelties that float your way!

We went to see “Bridge of Spies” Friday night. Other than being a little long, it was excellent and I highly recommend seeing it.
Halloween we only had two small groups of kids come to the door. It was eerily quiet in our neighborhood. My husband bought enough candy for a small army. I asked him to take it to the office this morning.
The Dear Husband also took me to the Apple store to look at the new iPhones. Not sure if I want a new one or not. They’re getting so huge. My 5s barely fits in my pants pocket and the 6s is even bigger. I don’t like putting my phone in my purse because it’s too hard to get to then. My husband suggested an outside purse pocket and I just looked at him and asked, “Have you never heard of pick-pockets?” Seriously, he’s such a trusting, country bumpkin.

Halloween was a game with friends. It was pouring and no one came to the door. It was quiet, just how I like it!

I bought a shirt that was supposed to be a Quidditch fan sports shirt for the Ravenclaw Eagles in the Harry Potter series, so I tried to draw on my face like some fans do at football games. I drew a blue heart on one cheek and a golden Snitch on the other cheek using eyemakeup and liner that I don’t use often. And I had blue and silver eyeshadow on my eyes (those are the Ravenclaw school colors!) and I topped it off with blue lipstick. The sad thing is I went to a party where no one understood who/what I was! I had a good time though. No trick or treating involved, but I found Halloween candy for half off the next day and splurged on that. I’m being good not eating all of it at once, lol.

I actually have cat business to mention as my neighbors’ cats followed my boyfriend and me into our apartment earlier to see what we got from the grocery store. I’m not a huge fan of my neighbors, but I like their cats 😉
