You guys probably already know this, but I’m a huge, HUGE Gwen Stefani fan.
The first time I saw her was in the “Just a Girl” video back before No Doubt really hit it big… It was on MTV at about 2 in the morning, and I remember thinking, “Um, this girl’s gonna be a star.”
I grew up listening to a lotta hip hop, but No Doubt’s spin on ska/punk (and Gwen’s style and energy) opened a door to a whole new world of music for me.
So when I got an email from the folks behind Harajuku Lovers offering to give one Makeup and Beauty Blog reader an autographed (by Gwen herself) set of the new Harajuku Lovers Sunshine Cuties fragrances (a $150 value), I (to put it mildly) LOST MY SH*T!
The five limited-edition bottles are almost too cute for words. Love, Angel, Music, Baby and G look like they’re ready for summer in their cutie-pie bikini beach wear (they even got their nails did, aww!).
Making scents…
- G: A blend of coconut, apple, mandarin, freesia and sandalwood
- Love: A sensual floral with bergamot (a citrus fruit), peach, jasmine and musk
- Lil’ Angel: A fruity floral with raspberry, pineapple rose and amber
- Music: A delicate floral with clementine, pear, sweet pea and vanilla
- Baby: A powdery scent with freesia, rose, musk and violet
And, HOLLA! Gwen will have touched them. 🙂
The MBB Gwen Stefani Makeup Challenge
I hope you’re ready, because today’s prize involves a challenge.
To enter the challenge, all you have to do is submit your very own Gwen Stefani-inspired makeup look to me at karen@makeupandbeautyblog.com.
Ways to submit your look…
- Either email 1-3 pictures of yourself wearing your look in .jpg format. Images should be 450 pixels wide or larger (no low res cameraphone pics please).
- You may also submit your entry as links to high res (again 450 pixels wide or larger) images hosted on Flickr, Imageshack, Twitpic or another free image hosting service or…
- You can also submit your look by video. Just send me the link to YouTube, Vimeo or any other free video hosting site.
NOTE: By entering, you also agree to grant me permission to post your look in a future entry on the blog.
Now, your makeup DOES NOT have to be an exact replica of Gwen’s. Just have fun with it, but I should be able to see the inspiration and that you’re channeling Gwen in some way.
If you want, go full-on G. Stef style by doing up your hair or wearing a Gwen-ish outfit! — whatever strikes your fancy.
To win
I’ll consider EVERY submission and choose the winner based on originality, photographic quality (no camera phone pics please) and how well it channels Gwen. 🙂
I know this is a departure from our usual comment/tweet giveaways, but your chances of winning should be substantially greater since there’s some effort involved (and consequently there should be far fewer than the usual 300-600 entries).
Sorry, international babes, you know I’ve usually got yo’ back, but the Harajuku Lovers PR folks insisted that I limit entries to US peeps only. Not to worry, though, because I’m prepping a different challenge for a different look and accompanying prize that will ONLY be open to you international readers.
Closing
To qualify, submit your entry (one entry per person) by Monday, March 29, at 11:59PM PST, and I’ll announce the winner on the blog the following morning (March 30).
Legal stuff: Must be 18 years of age or older and a valid resident of the United States; deadline to enter is Monday, March 29, 11:59PM PST; one entry per person; void where prohibited by law.
I’m really excited about this and can’t wait to see what you guys come up with. 🙂
Ahh ha, that’s my sh*t, all the girls stomp your feet like this…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hi Karen,
You’re so cool! I feel like if you love No Doubt and Gwen Stefani like I do that means that we can be friends (not that we aren’t friends already in my head (sorry for creepiness)) .. and this contest ROCKS.!!
Can’t wait to participate!! :))))))
Ess says
Heck yes! I love everything Gwen. No Doubt was the first band I really got into, and her the first artist/celebrity I looked up to style wise.
What a great challenge!

Awwww, I love Gwen and was totally looking forward to doing this until I read the US only part. Canada is so close, I don’t get why we can’t be included…shipping isn’t even that much more, lol. I’m looking forward to your international contest though 🙂

Sounds like fun!
I’m not going to lie but I was a HATER at first – I think I was just going through my rock phase during the early 90’s and I thought who does this chick think she is? Fast forward to 2000 at the X Games here in SF. No Doubt performed I got to see her do “I’m Just a Girl” live and I’ve been a fan and LOVER ever since!! She kicks serious ass – I saw her tour in Oakland 2yrs ago and she’s just amazing. I loved her even more when she said she use to shop at Clothestime in high school and mix up her outfits – I did that too! Who didn’t back in the late 80’s/early 90’s here in California?? She is too awesome for words!
I would love to enter this contest but I’m hella lazy hahahahaha!
Solé says
I was looking for the “like” button and then remembered this isn’t Facebook. 😀 I totally relate to the Clothestime, early 90s, California thing!
lexi says
hahaha – thanks for the “like” shout out! I was sad when they closed down the Clothestime here in SF on Market Street. It may have been late 90’s…
Karen says
That Clothestime was right around the corner from my old office in ’99… I can’t even remember how many times I went there after work for desperation “party” clothes!

I’m not going to enter, because *my* El Hub (I like this nickname, btw) is really sensitive about perfumes. I have to run by him every single scent I like, because some of them give him headaches. (And really, the last thing a girl wants is for her man to HATE the way she smells…)
BUT, I just wanted to share that I saw No Doubt for the first time in 1993, before they hit it big with Tragic Kingdom, at an outdoor concert at UC Irvine when I was in undergrad. Gwen had a high ponytail, army pants with suspenders, and bright red Doc Martens that looked like Ronald McDonald shoes. (I was rocking some of the standard-issue Docs on my own at the time, as I recall. 90s, you know.) They put on an awesome show! To this day I love Gwen–she proves that a girl can have fun, be successful, be a mom, and never lose her unique cool and edgy sense of fashion along the way. Good luck to everyone who enters the giveaway.

I am leaving this one to the seasoned makeup wearers!!! Good Luck all!!!

Holy crap… I’m like the biggest Gwen fan (No Doubt too!) that I know!! I’ve been a fan since I was merely a 5th grader when I heard Don’t Speak on the radio. I’m now almost 27 and still love No Doubt/Gwen!! Totally going to enter this and submit my look 🙂
beth says
i wasn’t sure i wanted to enter, but i think i can rock a gwen stefani look. im nowhere near her skintone but i love her style and im inspired by it day to day anyway…
Karen says
Hi Beth,
Skintone doesn’t really matter (it’s not really a look alike contest); just channel your inner Gwen and see where the inspiration takes you! 🙂
Right now your odds are really good so go for it!

I used to love Gwen, but I haven’t been really into her recent stuff for a few years now. I still love her look though. You’ve inspired me to create a Gwen Stefani look of my own for a new FB profile pic, but I won’t be entering it in the contest. I have waaaaay too many perfumes already. Can I submit for a MAC prize? Heh. 😀
Genesis C. says
Hey Karen!
Can I just say I am soooo excited for this contest! I loveee Gwen Stefani and have been a fan since her No Doubt days. I have so many ideas, can’t wait to show you my look!
Love your site btw! And Tabs of course 😀
