Cap’n Tabs of Makeup an’ Beauty Blog
Shiver me timbers, me hearty! Today be International Talk Like a Pirate Day, arrr!
Ahoy, an’ it be also Sunday, matey, which means t’ weekly open thread. If ye feel like talkin’ like a pirate, be me guest, but no worries if ye prefer not t’ indulge in t’ seaworthy vernacular. Davey Jones knows I can only keep t’ up fer five minutes, tops.
If you’re new to the open thread, here it is in a nutshell:
It’s adventure on the high seas! — but without the plank walking or scurvy. We lasses man the comments and chat about anything and everything — beauty, TV (looking forward to any fall shows?), books, jobs, pets, boys, travel, cooking, whatever!
It runs all day and night, so stop by whenever you can, and as often as you like.
Don your favorite, grandest eye patch and peg leg, and I’ll be seein’ ye soon, arrr!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Seriously, though, you do not have to talk like a pirate in the comments, unless you really want t’.
dani@callitbeauty says
the extend of my pirate speak is adding “ARRRR” to words, so i think i’ll skip that :p
hope everyone’s having a grand sunday! it’s sunny in vancouver. well, it’s alternating between sun and rain, actually. what’s the weather like in your part of the world?
also, if it’s not too much to ask of you guys, i’d really appreciate if you helped me out by voting for my look in the annabelle ultimate makeup junkie contest. voting ends tomorrow at 8:59 am EDT so i’m hoping for one last mad dash of votes. here’s the link if you’re interested: http://tiny.cc/fio6o
lastly, i wish you all the best in this upcoming week. let’s make it a good one, yeah? 🙂
Karen says
Good luck with the contest, Dani!
Terri says
Hi Karen. Sorry to be such a pain, but it looks like my comments are stuck in the spam filter again. Could it be my new browser? I’m using Chrome now 🙁
Karen says
Hi Terri,
Oh gosh, thanks for letting me know. I just approved it and let it through. I don’t know if it’s a Chrome related issue. Were you using Chrome when you entered the comment above?
Terri says
Hi Karen. I was using Chrome when I entered the comment above. I noticed last week that I could reply to comments but I couldn’t post any on my own.
Thanks for your help! I love the Open Thread here, and I was a little bummed that I couldn’t post 🙂
Karen says
You know I always look forward to “seeing” you here!
I will make a note to check the spam filter for this round and the next. I have no idea what’s going on… I can’t really remove the spam filter because all sorts of grossness will come through, but I’ll try my best to make sure you stuff gets through!
Jen says
I voted for you! Good luck!
Nina says
shiverrrrr me timberrrrssss!!!
it seems like rain here in houston, but it just wont fall! we were gonna go for a walk but decided against it. i exercised @ home instead.
im reading the hunger games – its so easy to get into this book that i foresee me staying up late to finish the first book tonight. not a good thing since its a schoolnight!
sep 21 is the vv launch here andi im going to break my no night out on a school night rule and go! disney + makeup = no way im gonna miss that! 🙂
Karen says
What kind of exercise didja do? I just finished running three (very slow) miles on the treadmill.
And yay, I’m glad to hear you are liking The Hunger Games! The minute I started reading it I couldn’t put it down.
Nina says
i did weights and a yoga dvd. 🙂 it was hard – mostly bec it was a hit and miss exercise week for me last week bec of allergues due to the office renovation. im glad i did it though, and my objective is to exercise everyday til thursday!
oh my these books – im almost done with the hunger games. im not sure if i want to start catching fire tonight because that might mean i wont sleep.
i <3 rue ….
Karen says
Oh cool. Does it make you sweat? I’m looking for some new DVDs.
And aww, Rue! *tears*
I stayed up really late last week to finish Mockingjay. When I finished I was emotionally EXHAUSTED. I had to cry for 20 minutes just to let it all out!
Nina says
it does, actually! i just picked this one up @ borders when the branch by my work closed down. its gaiam strength, and i like it bec the presenter is not overly affected.
the hunger games made me sad at the end. :/
and yes … i cried about rue too, and a little bit about thresh. *cries again*
Karen says
Ha ha, I think I know what you mean. I have one yoga DVD that I have to sorta tune out because the instructor’s voice works my nerves. It’s all about the voice…
I don’t recall crying during the second book, but I had many, MANY “Ooh, Peeta!” and “TEAM PEETA!” moments.
Nina says
Peeta is sweet! <3
LOL yep – I like my yoga instructor to be soothing and calm. Not hyper and shrill or overacting. 😀
Karen says
Are you on Team Gale or Team Peeta right now?
Nina says
id have to say team Peeta, so far. Gale is a bit uhm … sullen?
Karen says
Peeta’s like Aiden and Gale’s Mr. Big.
Just wait until the second book, oy oy!
Nina says
Dude, I read til 1130. I am bleary eyed today! I finished 1/3 of Book 2 😀
Amber says
Ooh I was thinking about going to the VV launch, but that’s spinning night. I almost never miss spinning — it’s my only non-internet social outlet, haha.
The almost-rain is frustrating me. We planted a ton of plants last week and it would be nice not to mess with the sprinkler for a day!
Nina says
it is frustrating isnt it. turns out we could have walked.
do you want to meet up there? should be fun: the last launch i went to was hello kitty! 😀
i almost never go bec its a schoolnight!
i was gonna ask you – where do you spin? i used to go @ the LA Fitness in Eldridge but we moved out of that area. Now im kinda in limbo – flitting between the one on I-10 and the one on Weslayan. I cant seem to find a good spin teacher.
Karen says
Aww! I hope you two get to meet up. MBB brings peeps together!
Amber says
Ehhh, I’m not sure. There is a lot in the collection that I am just not interested in. What was the last one like?
I spin at my company’s on-site gym. I think my spinning instructor may have taught at that LA Fitness at one time — do you know Elise? She looks to be in her 50s, short blond/grey hair, usually wears glasses.
Nina says
ahhh 😀
if she taught @ Eldridge or teaches at the Katy Freeway/Weslayan one ive probably done a class w/ her …
My fave instructor was Robert – and he now teaches at some far off branch (Langham Creek, close to Bear Creek Park) — too too far for me!
The last one was fun: food/drinks, they gave out treats, there was makeovers and some hunky guys passing food out. 🙂
Amber says
Okay I’m thinkin’ on it. I think it is too late to RSVP, but I’ll check tomorrow!
Nina says
lmk lmk — excited! 😀
indoorkitty says
Aaaar, the weather in me fair city is crazier than a kooky parrot!
And I’m out.
Seriously, we’ve had pouring rain, a blast of sunshine and now it’s over cast yet bright enough to wear sunglasses. I usually dress with weather in mind, today I’m just staying in PJs to avoid making decisions.
Oooh, I tried out that Cargo bronzer; perfection! Although I keep thinking I’m putting too much on. How much is too much? How much did you use when you tried it? And where do you put bronzer typically?
I had an SA put on some creme Elizabeth Arden blush on me yesterday and we totes got into a placement argument about it. She likes to put blush under the apples of the cheeks and I’m an apples’ person (under the cheek looked like I tried to put on blush but majorly missed. Not cool). So where do y’all think blush ought to go. Apples looks right on me.
Oooh I saw the Body World’s show yesterday. Maybe I’m desensitized and nerdy but I didn’t think it was that cray cray, or learn much more than I already knew. Thoughts?
dani@callitbeauty says
apples, for sure. under the apples of the cheek is way too low (unless you have impossibly high cheekbones). maybe she’s stuck in the 80s? :p
Nina says
on the apples. i only ever put bronzer (if i want to contour, which is rare) under the apples but not super directly under it. a few inches below, id say.
ive seen the body world show – i thought it was creepy, but a sort of creep that i couldnt stop looking at. it certainly made me conscious abt the body and how it works. 😀
Karen says
Beneath the apples is a different look — some people like it, but it can look very 80s. I prefer blush on the apples of my cheeks… I think it looks more natural on me.
For bronzer, I like to put it on the spots where the sun would naturally hit first — the temples, down the bridge of my nose, chin and beneath the curve of the apple of the cheek. You could also mix a few drops into your moisturizer if you want an all over glow.
Sarah B. says
I actually saw blush under the cheekbones in Allure last month. I was so surprised when I saw it; I haven’t seen it in a long while.
…Actually, come to think of it, I remember when I last saw it: there was a substitute in my middle school who was seventy-something, dyed her permed hair pitch black, and wore tons of makeup. Her blush was like big circles under the cheekbones really close to her hair line. Oh! And she shaved her eyebrows and penciled them back in. AND wore socks with sandals. We called her the Flip Flop Lady. It was scary.
Karen says
The last time I saw it was probably 1989. YIKES!
Dao says
Aye aye Capt’n Tabs! Arrrrrrr!
That’s all I got -> bad pirate speaking skill!
But srsly, I can’t wait for the fall TV shows, especially “The Big Bang Theory”. I’m having a TBBT withdrawal, help!
Karen says
I’ve never watched that show. Is it really good?
I was channel surfing a few nights ago and came across a pretty funny show called The League. It’s about a bunch of dudes in a fantasy football league. Normally I probably wouldn’t be into something like that but it was hilarious!
Nina says
lol i can be in that show – ive been playing fantasy nfl and nba for going on 4 years now. i even have some prette decent 2nd/3rd place finishes under my belt. 😀
Karen says
You would probably like it then. I barely know anything about football but still found it HILARIOUS!
Nina says
hahahaha i shall try and find it! 😀 add it to the growing number of shows i watch.
ive been watching nikita – its pretty good. :maggie
Nina says
LOL … ill try and find it!
ive been watching nikita – its not bad. maggie q is hawt!
makeup morsels says
yarghh…arr?
today is a really nice and laid-back day for me. I’m going to go swing by Target in a minute, and the weather’s nice and sunny. I called my relatives in Taipei yesterday though, and they’re having a full-blown typhoon back there.
Karen says
What did you end up getting from Target?
makeup morsels says
I ended up leaving empty handed for once! I was looking for the ELF concealer brush (to use as an eyeliner/lip brush), but it turns out my local Target doesn’t carry any ELF products in-store. bummer.
Karen says
I need to pop by there to pick up some paper towels and some Goody Spin Pins! I’ve been dying to try them.
steph b says
They rock! Two of them and my very layered hair is in a piecey bun that is secure all day. It would take about 20 bobby pins to do that. And they don’t give me a headache.
Karen says
I’ve heard they’re all sorts of amazing. I have really thick hair, though, so it’s gonna be a challenge. We’ll see (*crosses fingers*).
steph b says
I have thick hair too which is why it always takes some many bobby pins digging into my skull. These are the best. I’ve bought a bunch of them as backups because I’m terrified they are a limited thing.
Karen says
Ha ha, I know what you mean. My hair’s so thick that I’ve broken countless numbers of claw clips! It’ll be a Christmas miracle if these keep my mane in place!
steph b says
Brocken claw clips suck – happens to me all the time. Have you ever had a clip just fly out of your hair because it couldn’t deal with the strain anymore? I almost took out a friend’s eye once.
Kit says
AM I THE ONLY ONE REALLY EXCITED FOR HALLOWEEN ALREADY!?
I’m going as Snooki. 😀
Erika says
Im going to “risky buisness” route.
🙂
Karen says
Ooh, good call! How are you gonna handle the shoes, though? I think in the movie homeboy wears socks only.
Erika says
I’m thinking that becuase you are DEF going to be seeing my panties, Im going to get some teal or purple panties and wear socks under my teal or purple panties.
Lauren says
I’m going as Alice 😀 (From Wonderland muahah)
Karen says
I saw some Halloween decorations at Marshalls yesterday and got all excited! It’s one of my favorite holidays.
Are you gonna get a Snooki wig?
Kit says
Yeah haha. My hair isn’t long enough to pull off the Snooki anymore, sadly D:
Karen says
Did Tabs ever show you his Snooki wig (scroll down to second pic)? Ha ha!
https://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/product-reviews/stay-awhile-boots-no7-cheek-tint-pretty-please/
Now all you need are those crazy gem-encrusted glasses she’s been wearing lately… oh, and maybe a jar of pickles!
Tracy says
Shiver me timbers matey -there be some snowflakes mixed with rain here where the sails be anchored! Brrrrrrrr!
So i’ve stayed indoors watching Man V. Food all afternoon. That guy is my hero when it comes to food eating. Love that show!
Karen says
Hi Tracy,
Brrr! I can’t hang with the snow, matey! 🙂
I’ve heard about that show but have yet to watch it. Has he been eating anything good? LOL
Tracy says
Everything he eats should be called Heart Attack on a plate. Like this one: a deep fried hotdog, grilled onions and mushrooms, 6 pieces of bacon, 4 slices of different sliced cheese on a bun. Coronary city-but it sounds so good too!
Karen says
Seriously? Yikes! It sounds delicious, but oh so bad for you!
Erika says
I left my stinking headphones at home so now I have to study in total silence. This is lame.
I do however love that my urban decay eyeliner from yesterday has litterally not budged an inch
Karen says
Hi Erika!
I’ve been rocking UD liner too (Rockstar!). What color are you wearing?
Brian McDowell aka Roulette says
I have been a MAC freak/fan/employee for years and was soooo disappointed with the Feline liner…I loved loved loved how black it was but it moved around soo badly and would end up all over my face.
Now I absolutely adore the Zero liner from UD. I am going to buy the Jackpot set thanks to your swatches!
I have to share this…I had the most amazing night last night! I sang live on stage with Margaret Cho as part of the Phoenix Metropolitan Mens Chorus at her show here in town last night. We backed her up for just one song during her comedy show. The song was hilarious and the audience loved it. Then I got two pics with her! I am still in a state of disbelief! 🙂
Anyone else do anything interesting? I also did a makeup gig at a movie premiere in Tempe on Friday night. I did 4 makeups: Frankenstein, BVride of Frankenstein, Igor, and the Bee Lady. LOL. Tons of fun there too. 🙂
Nina says
Zero is the bombdigitty! 😀 I would marry it if I werent hitched yet! 😀
I <3 Margaret Cho – she is awesomesauce funny!
Lauren says
Not looking forward to opening tomorrow at my work to be honest (gotta be there at 4:30 am!) but I am looking forward to a fresh new week 🙂
Karen says
Hi Lauren,
Yikes, that’s early. What kind of work do you do?
Lauren says
I’m a barista 🙂 People need their coffee I guess!
Terri says
Hi Karen and everyone! I hope all of you are having a great weekend.
Is anyone planning on purchasing from HauteLook this week? It is their Beauty Week, and it looks like they have some great brands (Lorac, Stila). Even though I’ve been pretty bad about online shopping (I just got Benefit’s Femme Metale and some skincare from Terralina), I might indulge a little more this week.
Karen says
Hi Terri,
I will probably be refraining from the sale, le sigh! I need to save up to buy some new J Brand jeans! Dang those suckers ain’t cheap, but they fit so well.
Terri says
I should resist too. I just keep telling myself that buying makeup online can be a dangerous thing, especially when you can’t return it. I got some Urban Decay Loose Pigments from Sephora.com, and when they weren’t what I was expecting, I was able to return them, no questions asked. While shopping sites like HauteLook are great, they don’t allow makeup returns.
Karen says
That’s one of the reasons why I like buying from sephora.com. Returns are sooo easy!
What didn’t you like about the pigments?
Terri says
I found that they were a little too sparkly for my taste. While the Femme Metale collection has some shimmer to it, I thought that they could be fairly understated. The UD pigments were just too much for me to wear on an everyday basis. If I needed nighttime makeup more, the pigments would probably be great.
By the way, thanks for the review on the Femme Metale collection! I love it.
Karen says
Usually UD does not mess around when it comes to the sparkle, LOL!
Have you tried any of the Benefit Powder Eyeshadows (the ones in the pans)? I like them for days when I want shimmer but not too much sparkle/frost.
Terri says
I haven’t used Benefit’s powder shadows, but I’ll definitely give them a test the next time I go to Sephora or Macy’s!
Karen says
I like them a lot. They’re very soft and blendable, and they look great on top of the Creaseless Creams.
Nina says
ill probly abstain too … i love me some Lorac but the VV thing-o will make me poor as a churchmouse this coming week.
they are going to have some NYX on sale too – that brand is pretty great!
Terri says
Nina – thanks for the heads up on the NYX sale. I’ve been wanting to try some of their products!
Nina says
NYX is awesome. I usually get it from the grocery store, but if the discounts are good on Hautelook, ill probably use up the 10$ credit ive been hoarding for a while now.
Its on Wednesday 9/22. 🙂
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Arrr, matey! I’m kind of sad that I forgot that it was Talk Like a Pirate day. There’s a pirate bar (lol, it’s really amusing and it has surprisingly decent food) near me, and I went to it two years ago with my friends to celebrate. I wore a ruffly shirt and over the knee boots (and obviously pants as well, but they were just jeans and not particularly pirate-tastic).
I stopped by Sephora today to return something (yay for $55 in store credit), and I forced myself to be good and didn’t get anything. Okay, that may be because I bought something online from Sephora yesterday; after all, I had to collect on my Beauty Insider birthday gift! I ordered some eyeliner, the Korres liquid lipstick you reviewed in Berry or Red (I had both in my shopping cart and got rid of one and I can’t remember which, lol), and a bunch of the new Benefit Creaseless Creams (the Femme Metale kit and then the new teal/gold one). I want my box to arrive, grr!
Karen says
OH mah gawd! I can’t wait to see those new Creaseless Creams, especially the teal!
So, do the bartenders at the pirate bar actually talk like pirates?
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
They do on occasion, but they DRESS like pirates every night. Some of them carry swords. It’s pretty fab!
Terri says
I love Benefit’s Creaseless Cream shadows. You won’t be disappointed by the Femme Metale kit; I love the shadows and the eyeliners. While the Platinum shadow wasn’t quite my style, I gave it to a friend of mine who was psyched.
Karen says
Tell your friend Platinum makes a good base for powder shadows. It’s fun for when you want to lighten up a color!
Heidi says
So, I tried out the Femme Metale kit today, too. Can I just say that the eye pencils seriously rock? I wore the Steel one today with the Taupe shadow, and OMG, a liner that lasted ALL DAY, didn’t smear in the waterline, I’m hooked!
Karen says
Hi ladies,
Whatcha guys doing right now?
I’m watching the Law & Order: SVU marathon and doing some Chanel swatches of the Soho collection.
Terri says
I am working on lesson plans for this week’s classes, getting ready to send my invoice in for job #2, and debating a quick run to CVS to pick up a few things. I’m also reading “The Glamour of Grammar” for a LibraryThing review.
Karen says
Is it any good? I’m always looking for new grammar books.
Terri says
It is surprisingly good! The author has a very lively writing style, and he does a nice job making the book very fun to read. I highly recommend it.
Karen says
Cool. I have to order a batch of books from Amazon… will put this on my list!
Nina says
Reading Catching Fire (though SVU marathon sounds great too) … and making myself go to bed at a decent hour. 😀
Karen says
Ha ha, isn’t funny how you have to force yourself to put it down?
Nina says
true that. the hubs has been trying to distract me from reading w/ promises of steak and movies haha!
steph b says
Drooling over the brioche pear tart I just pulled out of the over to bring to work tomorrow. Think anyone will notice a wedge missing?
Terri says
Steph – that sounds amazing! If you eat a piece, just cut the entire tart into wedges before you set it out at work 😉
steph b says
Terri — you are brilliant! Fab suggstion. I’ve never made this recipe before and I hate serving something untested. It was delish. Not too sweet.
Terri says
I hate serving things I haven’t tested before too! My oven is evil and tends to burn the bottoms of things, so I’ve had to do the cut a piece and then cut the entire thing trick many a time. I’m glad it all worked out for you!
Nina says
I can haz brioche pear tart too plz? 😀
Karen says
I promise not to tell if you cut me a piece. 🙂
em says
Hi Karen! Hope you’ve had a good weekend 🙂 Right now I’m enjoying just being able to chill out at home, I’m a student who works part time and I just did a six day week at work so I’m knackered! I don’t know how i’m going to handle working when I’m “grown up” 🙁 (I refuse to acknowledge that now at 21, I’m no longer a teen!) I’ve just graduated and I’m actually going back to do a second degree and a new university, and I’m nervous about starting out in a new place again! -not to mention being a skint student still..no more Mac for me for a while – well apart from venemous villains- I LOVE the mineralize eyeshadow look you did karen! Are they anything like young punk?
Karen says
Hi Em,
How exciting! What degree are you working toward?
Regarding the shadow, the purple side of My Dark Magic’s a little like Young Punk, but the glitter’s finer and more refined. You get also get the blackish magenta shadow, too, which is a nice touch.
Brian McDowell aka Roulette says
I am so excited for Tueday. The store I usually freelance at is having a Venomous Villains launch party. I was working Saturday at the store and they had the testers set up on the counter in the back room and I got to see all of it. The mineral shadows are amazing!! Admittedly I liked the blue.green one better than the pink.purple on but I am going to get them both since I missed out on the ones from the Style Black collection.
Nina says
dang. i was hoping not to fall in <3 with the peacock MES (thats what it reminds me of) but youre the 2nd person (karen was the 1st) who said its awesome. 😀
Sarah B. says
I know how you feel about “growing up”… I feel like it was just yesterday when I was a Freshman in high school and was passing notes in my West Civ class with my girlies… Good luck at your new school! Wear something that makes you happy and happiness will follow… That should be a fortune cookie! Or maybe Oprah.
I’m SO going to try that MAC Venomous Villains mineralize eyeshadow when it comes out– hopefully it won’t be too severe on me. I have a recurring problem with that, and I’m fairly certain it pertains to the fact that the only person who is paler than me would be albino! It seems fairly sheer– whaddya think, Karen?
Beth says
Ok – still burning up here in Arkansas. Mid 90’s temps all week. Sucks when I am ready to put out mums, pumpkins and decorate for Halloween!
Just finished The Hunger Games. 14 year old daughter is reading it for school and I yoinked it from her when I recognized it from THIS BLOG! After dinner, planning a trip to Barnes and Noble to get the second one. Can’t wait, could hardly put the first one down.
Question – your post about “have you ever finished a bottle of perfume” got me thinking. Has anyone ever finished a bottle of nail polish? I love nail polish and buy it all the time. But I never finish a bottle before it gets too thick and gloopy. Even my high end ones do. I don’t polish constantly but I do almost always keep it on my toes and at least a few times a month on my nails. Anyway, just curious!
steph b says
Its in the 80s here and totally messing with the pre-Halloween vibe too. Not that it has stopped me from eating a ton of candy corn.
Karen says
Wait, they’ve already got candy corn on shelves? I gotta hunt some down when I go to Target!
It seems like holidays start earlier nowadays. Next thing you know we’ll be preparing for Halloween in July!
Nina says
why yes they do! we almost got some last friday but ended up w/ some miniature dark reeses peanut butter cups – omg awesome! 😀
Karen says
Sigh, I suppose I need to make room in my schedule for more time on the treadmill. I love and hate that the fall holidays are food-centric!
Nina says
i know right? and after thanksgiving – its all downhill from there.
steph b says
Candy corn has been on the shelves for weeks here. I’m partial to the chocolate kind.
Karen says
I think I may be living underneath a rock. I’ve never heard of the chocolate kind!
steph b says
They sometimes call it Indian corn. Instead of the yellow base of the triangle, it has chocolate. I swear they’ve had this out since August — along with the back to school stuff. Next year it’ll be out with July 4th stuff.
Karen says
What always gets me are the mini Snickers. 🙁 I physically can’t stop myself from eating just one.
Nina says
i must find chocolate candy corn! 😀
Nina says
lol im reading the 2nd one now too. finished the first one in a day and a half! 😀
its been hitting the low 90s where were at. it actually is cool-ish in the morning!
Karen says
Hi Beth,
LOL! I’m glad to hear both you and your daughter are enjoying the book. I’m kinda surprised that it’s technically classified as teen fiction! It appeals to so many different age groups, which I think is very cool.
That’s a good question regarding nail polish! I don’t think I’ve ever finished a bottle, but it might happen with Chanel Jade. Gosh I love that shade!
What nail polish colors are you into these days?
Sarah B. says
Ohh! I hate when that happens! The nail polish, I mean. Although 90 in September is pretty gnarly, too.
Kate & Zena says
Just to let you know, I really hate UD at the moment. The couldn’t have made a billion more Naked palettes before they put it up for sale, could they? NOOOOOOOOOOO. People like me have to stalk Sephora, Urban Decay AND Ulta.com (if you don’t live a Sephora like me) and call our nearest Ulta’s obsessively asking if they have the palette and if they don’t, when the palette will be in. It is really irritating. All I want is my gosh darn palette. I’ve been tapping my toes and rushing online and running all over the darn world only to find it gone. There’s a new shipment coming into my neighborhood Ulta on Wednesday and the employee said she’ll call us on Thursday when they are stocked. I WANT THE NAKED PALETTE NOW!!!
Also, I think Mellan (from Temptalia) and Zena are conspiring against Christine and me. I’ve been having post subscription managing troubles so I seem to be hitting that “Contact Us” button more than normal. I guess if she’s not conspiring with Tabs, she’s conspiring with Mellan. I think my dog is becoming a mobster.
Oh yea, the weather here is FREEZING COLD. As in, 50 to 66 with 50-87% humidity. In the middle of September. I’ve been stuck in skinny jeans, my fall coat and boots. I’m retaliating by wearing the brightest, greenest color I own–Essie’s Pretty Edgie. It screams, “This is NOT a fall color.” Maybe next week I’ll wear the brightest, pinkest color I own. I refuse to admit that fall is coming. I hate the cold.
Karen says
I check the sephora.co pretty frequently. If I see it come up again I’ll let you know!
Nina says
i wish we had a bit of your weather – here id describe the weather as confused: doesnt know if it wants to rain or not, doesnt know if it wants to get cooler or not. crazy.
my naked palette story is one of craziness – i got 2, one for me and my friend. i swapped mine for a rare MAC MSF and then decided i wanted one STAT. i ended up swapping one of my Stereo Roses for another brand new Naked palette, that i havent received yet. im insane.
Kate & Zena says
The weather is confused here too, Nina (the Midwest is notorious for it, actually). It’s been cold with high humidity and drizzling on and off today! I miss the predictability of Colorado weather. I hated it when I was a kid (it was so cold after living in Texas!) but I miss it now!
Kate & Zena says
Gosh darn, I forgot to hit the “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail.” Where is my brain this week?
Sarah B. says
I’m so psyched for Bones! David Boreanaz is a cutie pie.
So how’s everyone feeling about this orange eyeshadow trend? I’m trying to figure out a way that it won’t make me look so… odd. I mean, if you’re a super model, you could wear magic marker on your face and look fab, but what’s a real gal to do? Maybe as an eyeliner…?
Normally, I love everything about fashion, but lately it’s a. boring me silly or b. just not jiving with my personal style. It’s kinda frustrating me when I walk into stores, and what the deuce! It’s the see the same gray, oversized tee over and over again! *Sigh*
PS- I just have to add that I saw a beaver today! THREE, actually. One swam right next to our canoe. I named him Carlos. 😉 I’m such a geek when it comes to things like that! But it’s so much cooler than the zoo, no?
Karen says
I don’t ever thing I’ll get over seeing him as Angel!
As for the orange on the eye, I think it can be cool if used in moderation as liner. 🙂
And beavers are super cute! Why were you on a canoe? Do you live near a river?

There’s an old reservoir by my house we go fishing at. I always kind of assumed they lived in rivers only and made their own ponds, but they can live in ponds and lakes too. The reservoir is really quiet and out of the way, so there’s all kinds of nature– it’s like Planet Earth, except smaller and without the cool slow-motion camera work. 😉 And there aren’t lions or zebras. But there is a bobcat!

I have some lovely vibrant orange coloured shadows in some of my fave palettes and would also love some FOTD ideas. Particularly as I’m quite pale and they do show up quite strong. 🙂

a good neutral base + a light hand would tone the bright orange down. i used an oldie but goodie orange eyeshadow today (firespot from an old MAC collection) and wanted it to be work appropriate.
i used benefit creaseless cream eyeshadow in honey bunny over my udpp before i applied firespot. it kinda muted the color. i went with wedge on my crease but didnt define it too much. so its kinda a soft orangey – fall-ey look for me today.

i just got back from my bgf”s (best guy friend) brother’s wedding, and, i kid you not, after the ceremony the groomsmen donned eye patches and fake earrings. the skewers for the fruit and veggie trays were also shaped like little swords. LOVED IT, especially since my college mascot was a pirate! ARGHHHHHH!!!!
Karen says
LOL! Did they decide to get married on Talk Like a Pirate day on purpose? Or was it just a very cool coincidence?
Jen says
Your college mascot was a pirate??? What college did you go to? That’s so cool!

y’all i am sorry this reply is like a million years late, my internet’s been down for TWO WHOLE DAYS. arghhhhh (and not in the good piratey way).
@karen: i think it was just a coincidence, although knowing those two, they might have done it on purpose 🙂
@jen: i went to east carolina university, home of the PIRATES!!! (some say our mascot should be captain morgan, but oh well 🙂

Can I just say that pic is all kinds of awesome?
Amber says
Haha, thanks! We had a whole bunch of piratey pictures because we got married during Pirate Week. They are my favorites of the whole darn event.
Karen says
Please tell me you had a few pics involving a parrot, LOL!
Amber says
Sadly, no! Nobody thought to bring one in their carry-on. 😉
Karen says
Darn. Well, perhaps you can hook that up if you guys renew your vows!

Anyway… I went to the Estee Lauder/MAC/Bobbi Brown/Clinique warehouse sale, or better known as just MAC warehouse sale, last weekend. I did pretty well and control myself. And after a week, I’m in the process of swapping charity bags with fellow MAC addicts. After tomorrow, I’ll have 5 different version of charity bags, and each only costs me $5 but there are 4 full size MAC products in them! I still can’t get over the excitement of getting such a great deal at the MAC warehouse sale. It’s totally worth waking up early to wait in line. I shall do a special blog post about the charity bag swap :).

Wow! It sounds like heaven! Where was this?
Does anyone have a good website for finding out about blow-out sales?
Rica says
The warehouse sale happens every 3 months in Markham, Ontario, Canada. But I know they also have one in Long Island, New York. It’s a cosmetics heaven, I would say. Lots of discounted products, but at the same time, a lot of people and very long lines. It’s ridiculous how long the lines were. I waited almost 30 minutes for lip products, 30 minutes for miscellaneous small products that were all $3, and the face powder line was incredibly long for some reason. I heard there were people waiting for an hour to get their face products. But it’s well worth it =).
If you’re interested to learn more about the sale, I have a VERY long blog post dedicated to it =).

Wow. WOW. I’m so googling the NY sale RIGHT NOW.
Nina says
hahahah 😀 i lol’d at the arrbys!
my friend who lives in Canada went too! she was supposed to get some stuff for me but we somehow lost contact when she got into the venue. 😀
Rica says
The reception in the venue is not that great. But if your friend is going there next time, you can give her a wish list. I suggest taking a look at other people’s haul. Because chances are, the products you like might still be there =D.

Anyone else here watching a new cop show on A & E called “The Glades”? Oh my, the male lead is very charming indeed and quite the hawtness, too. I am verklempt that True Blood won’t be on again til summer. WTF is up with that? Seriously, it’s just way too long between seasons, which are short anyway (12 episodes versus 22-23 on most other shows). Karen, I’m feeling a Nutella moment coming on and since I don’t have any apples in the fridge, it could be just me, the jar and a spoon…a downward spiral I indulge in entirely too often.
Totally random question: have you ever found a whisker that Tabs has lost? They are the weirdest things, lol. So sharp at the “away” end and thick like a wire at the “cheek’ end.
