Side note, but have you ever tried walking a cat on a leash? Scratch that. I mean, have you ever tried to put a leash on a cat? Today, feeling guilty about taking away his freedom by making him an indoor cat, I tried to put a kitty harness on Tabs to get him some sun out on the deck. Yeah… he wasn’t into it.
What are you doing tonight? Anything good on TV?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
amy says
Tabs would be great on Project Runway and I love the beret on him. I think most cats are too proud and have too much pride for people to leash them, so I have never attempted to leash Angel. She is too scared to go outside anyway, since she has been an indoor cat all her life. Nothing all tonight but The Simpsons and Family Guy!

Karen says
Ah, El Hub LOVES Family Guy so I am forced to watch it. I have come to the point where I can re-hash plot lines and weird moments (ie., Brian doing “It’s peanut butter jelly time, peanut butter jelly time…”
So your kitty never goes out? Does she ever try to make a break for the door?
amy says
No she never makes a break for the door but she will peek out once in a while. She has fell out of a window and on to the roof, trying to catch a mosquito outside.

Karen says
Darn curiosity! I’m glad she landed on the roof… that must’ve been scary!
Jen says
My sister used to volunteer at the humane society. She socialized with the cats. She said when you try to put harnesses on some of them, they just slump to the floor and refuse to move. Hahaha!
Karen says
That’s exactly what he did! He plopped right on the floor and absolutely refused to move. Oh, he meowed his unhappy meow too. 🙁
Amber says
Family Guy for me too! I’ve been at home pretty much all weekend recovering from an upper respiratory infection so after some tv, I’m going to hit the hay so I can start my week off right for work.
Karen says
Feel better soon, Amber, and have a good week at work!
Tiffany says
Maybe Tabs would warm up to the harness with time? I don’t really know anything about cats, but would think if he realized it led to outside time maybe it would grow on him.
Watched football all day and now the simpsons!
Karen says
Sometimes I can’t believe that show is still on! My brother used to wear a Bart Simpson T that said “Don’t have a cow man” when he was a kid… now he’s pushing 30, LOL!
Katherine says
My mom and I are watching Iron Chef America–Michelle Obama and a White House chef will be on the show!

Karen says
Oh, I saw the commercial for that! I was wondering who the special guest was going to be.
Katie & Zena says
Wow, an hour-and-a-half to do all that. Holy shizz. My Elphaba look took about thirty minutes and I had green eyeshadow over any part of my body that was exposed. It took so many make-up wipes to take off!!!
I’m watching the new Desperate Housewives episode that airs in about twenty minutes.
Have you tried using a treat and showing him the harness is okay? It took me a few tries to get Zena used to her harness. She walked really strange the first few times. I had to adjust the harness to fit her perfectly which rook a few sessions as well. The harness is a lot safer for her as it doesn’t yank on her delicate neck and I can control her a lot easier.
Karen says
Yeah, I know!!
That’s a good idea to bribe him with a snack. I also got some cat nip… maybe also I’ll rub some on the harness and the leash in addition giving him favorite treat (Pounce). 🙂
Do you start school again soon?
Katie & Zena says
I start school on the 19th, but I haven’t been able to sign up for my classes yet because a certain cretin didn’t print out HIS schedule until today…after a month of asking and eventually yelling. It was very irritating. I have no idea what I want to take! I don’t know what could possibly come close to the classes I took in fall. That had to be my favorite semester as all my classes (except one) were really fun. A lot of work, but fun!
Can you believe Zena turns 6 on the 5th? She doesn’t look (or act) six! I feel like she should be turning 3. My puppy’s growing old!!! I can’t believe it.
Karen says
No way! I can’t believe the pup is turning six. In pics she looks like a wee lass. 🙂
Did you get her any bday presents? Please give her a birthday hug for me.
Anywhoo, you still have a lot of time off, you lucky bum! I’m terribly jealous.
Katie & Zena says
I know! It’s so hard to believe.
We (meaning my dad and his holy ATM card) bought her this for her birthday: Custom Fleece Peacoat for Dogs
It’s going to be red and have an attached neck warmer. We have officially entered Crazy Dog Family (CDF) territory.
Karen says
SUPER CUTE! Red is doing to look dashing on her.
Oh, and I’m coveting the dog modeling the gray coat. She (or he) is adorable.
BTW, CDF territory is a great place to be. My parents and their dog Shauna live there, ha ha ha.
Arianne says
I’m just watching old episodes of Grey’s Anatomy (Season 2)! I’m laying low tonight… just hanging with the cat. She’s napping now. LOL. I thought we were supposed to watch it together.

Aww, that’s so rude of her! Wake her kitty a$$ up. She needs to put in some good bonding time with you (and McDreamy).
Hafsa says
I LOL’d at this Karen, Tabs is WORKIN IT with his blue makeup, for real 😀
I rented “PS I Love You” and am gonna watch it later. Hope its good…

LOL! 🙂
I saw that a while back and enjoyed it… I do recall shedding a tear or two, so be prepared.
How are you doing? Are you still job hunting?
Hafsa says
It was a good film, not perfect, but cute and sad. Mr. Butler was preeeeety fine in the film though 🙂
Unfortunately i’m still searching for a job 🙁 I’m really interested in getting into publishing, but I just can’t seem to get a hit. At this point I feel like I need to know someone in the industry or something so I can get a word in. In this market, its all about networking at this point, which is very very difficult to do.

Jenny says
Oh man, I’ve been considering putting my cat on a leash since I’ve restricted him to being inside. Now I’m not so sure…
Also, I’d buy more Chanel if I knew it’d let me look as good as Tabs, not that I don’t buy plenty of Chanel regardless.
Karen says
How is he handling being an indoor kitty? Does he ever try to escape?
Maybe you can try buying a harness from Petco. Save your receipt and keep the original packaging intact, that way you can return it if he’s not into it (that’s what I’m doing). Let him wear it for a bit and see how he reacts to it… you never know! He just might be into it.
Stacie says
LOL! As a general rule, cats won’t lead on a leash like a dog. Have you seen those strollers enclosed with mesh? They make those for taking your cat for a walk. I can’t see myself using one with my two demons, but maybe you and Tabs would be into it?
Karen says
Oh! I’ve seen those… I’m afraid if I get one I’ll officially be full on CCL (crazy cat lady). 🙁
That’s too funny how you call you kittehs two demons! Perhaps acting out is how they express their love for you?
Juanita says
My cat flopped on the floor in rebellion. Then we took him out one time on a “walk”, wriggled out of it, we had to chase him down and he shredded the boyfriends arm. So now, in the summer, I loop the leash through the sliding glass door, and let him wander the back deck.
We’d both be devastated to lose our ornery cat, so no outdoors no matter his constant complaining.
Karen says
I’m thinking that’s what we’ll end up doing, too. We have a pretty big deck in the back… perhaps if I put some nice plants back there he’ll actually enjoy it!
How long have you been your cat’s “assistant”? 🙂
Celeste Parkhurst says
Oddly enough, my kitty Velcro took to the harness and leash really quickly. I had him spend some time just in the harness in the house one day, and took him outside on the leash the next. He escaped from it once, but I corrected the fit and he’s been good ever since. I think he understands now that the harness means special outside time & gets that it is a compromise between us. And I may be a crazy cat lady.
Karen says
Welcome to club CCL (crazy cat lady), Celeste!
How old is Velcro? Tabs is about four!
Solé says
I love how every expression on Tabs’ face is extremely suited to each individual situation. Too cute! I’m not really watching TV since I’m pretty much spending this evening preparing for school, which starts tomorrow. I can hear my husband watching something on the NatGeo channel in the next room. So far I’ve dyed my hair, tweezed the brows, cleaned out my binder, printed out syllabi (sp?) for different classes, and happily realized that I don’t have that many books to lug around this quarter, so the evil backpack is getting stuffed back into the closet in lieu of much cuter bags. I’m starting with my Paul & Joe for Target plaid owl bag. Yay! Now the hardest part is going to be retraining myself to wake up at 5:30 AM after I’ve been sleeping in for three weeks. Eek.
Karen says
I totally feel that pain! I am NOT looking forward to waking up at the crack of dawn tomorrow. 🙁
Have a good first day of class tomorrow! What classes are you taking?
Solé says
Thanks! I’m taking Civilization of Spain and Portugal, Spanish Syntax, and Intensive Portuguese. It’s technically full-time since we’re on the quarter system but I really wanted to take one more class. Unfortunately, the UC system has cut so many classes and laid off so much staff, that these were the only three I could get into this quarter. They all apply to my major, but I’d really like to be moving along faster than this so I can study abroad next summer. I’d like to go to Spain or Mexico but I’m not sure yet if it’s even possible.
Karen says
The Civilization of Spain and Portugal sounds very interesting. I hope that the planets align for you to study abroad next summer so I can vicariously live through your adventures, LOL! If you end up in Spain I may hit you up to send me some Filipinos cookies. 🙂
I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Agghh, Tabs is so cute! I love his adventures and photos.
…Tabs has lips?
Sonja says
I can’t even imagine talking my cat into it!!! I remember a few years back when we decided to take her on a ferry to our island house—-let’s just say that the captain came out and asked if we could silence the tiger, that kids on the ferry were scared. So, it was a lesson learned- don’t try to make a cat do anything.
Suji says
Wow, Tabs has quite a handsome avatar! You have great photoshop skills 🙂
I tried to put my kitty in a harness before, but he was not having it at all! I’ve taken him outside a few times, but he gets so scared that he stays pretty still. Since I live in a 2nd floor condo it’s not that convenient either. He’s always been an indoor cat though.
All Women Stalker says
But isn’t he like, nekkid all the time here? Haha
Re: the harness, I read somewhere that you just make the cat get used to it first. Don’t use it for walking the first week or so. Just let him wear it and make him comfy; no pulling or whatever. Then training will progress from there. 🙂
Briana says
Yeah… I tried the whole leash thing a few times when I lived in my apartment in a busy section of town. Then I gave up, now she just goes out whenever she wants. But there is a lady near my parent’s place who walks her cat on a leash everyday. I think she’s been doing it since it was a kitten though, so its used to it.

hi. just wanted to say – gorgeous tab!
and, i also had to take my boys’ freedom away (for their own safety) a few years ago. we tried the leash, and it didn’t work. but i found the perfect solution! a pet stroller.
seriously. i take my more adventurous tab on walks whenever the weather is good and he’s in the mood. my other tab has decided that being taken out on the stairway landing loose for a few minutes is good enough for him (he doesn’t like the stroller). he behaves because he knows this is his special time, his brother’s is going out in the stroller with me.
there are several styles of stroller you can find online. i bought the giant one from kittywalksystems.com (thinking i could take both cats out at the same time). not cheap, but the thing has lasted for years. this stroller has made such a difference in the mood of my cat, i highly recommend it. i’ll get a smaller one when i need to replace it, simply because only one cat likes to go for walks. it also doubles as a hideaway for them when you drape a blanket over it.
these things are also good for dogs and cats who are arthritic or have other troubles walking.

My friend has a cat who will allow himself to be placed in a harness, but he doesn’t really succeed much once he’s in it – either he meanders around in random directions, making the humans walk with him, or he flops over and rolls around in the grass, meaning he has to be dragged if you need him to move. 😉
VERO says
HAHA, no leash for the kitties, my cats just lay on the floor with this horrified expression until I take it off. I carried the more adventerous one outside with the leash on to see if he got curious but he just meowed until I took him back in.
