As you know, Tabs leads a jet-setting kitty lifestyle packed with party invites and dates with A-list celebs, but no matter how many professional accolades he receives (he’s up for a Golden Globe tonight in the Huskiest Kitty Model category), Tabs never forgets his humble beginnings. He keeps his paws on the pulse of the local street scene, and to most of the neighborhood cats, he’s just Tabby from the block.
Lately, he’s been wanting to give back to the community, and so he’s decided to take a kitty model intern under his wing. One of the candidates is a blue-eyed feline I call “The Cross-Eyed Kitty,” who lives a few doors down. Since Tabs was out of town this weekend (he was up at Jay-Z and B’s place and says the new baby is adorable), he asked me to conduct the interview.
We met on the grassy knoll at the edge of the parking lot, and the first thing I noticed about her is her size. She’s tiny compared to Tabs, about half his size, and has the most beautiful cream, black and brown markings I’ve seen in a while. When I asked her why she wanted to be a kitty model, she replied with a soft, raspy “ack-ack-ack” meow.
When it comes to modeling, her talent is still very raw. It’s ultimately up to Tabs, but based on these first few pics, I think she has what it takes to make it in the big leagues.
Fellow animal lovers, are you friends with any cats/dogs/turkeys or other fauna living in your neighborhood (with humans, or as strays)? If you are, what are they like? Would you say they’re modeling material?
Who is Tabs the Cat? About three years ago I befriended a stray, flea-bitten tabby cat with a bad case of worms. I could see he’d fallen on hard times, but his profound knowledge of high fashion and department store cosmetics led me to believe that he was more than meets the eye. We became fast friends, and now he’s actually my boss (and a successful kitty model). 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Like his midsection, Tabs’ kitty modeling portfolio is bursting at the seams! Here’s a random sampling of his work, and there’s a lot more in the archives.

Love Tabs! I think he would really get along with my two kitties who are also rather large around the midsection. They love their wet food!

That is one stunning looking cat. Definitely see some potential, there.
We have a variety of birds that hang out in our backyard. Missy loves them. She doesn’t try to chase them, but she enjoys watching them. I can always tell who’s out there by the sounds that Missy makes. She tries to mimic them. She coos when the doves are around, makes a chirping noise when the finches are there, and when the nasty, bully of a blue jay is around, she makes this hysterical squacking noise.

These had me laughing so loud! Tabs is adorable, plz squish him gently for me.
Cross-Eyed Kitty (CEK?) is also very beautiful, scritch her head for me, next time you see her?

Aww this one is CUTE! She looks like a Ragdoll (which would probably make her a plus-size model? lol)! Tabs looks as majestic as ever with that bottle of No. 5 of course…
There is a female cat in my neighborhood. I have not yet figured out where she lives. All I know is whenever I saw her (when the weather was warmer), she came to me to meow and rub against my calves like there’s no tomorrow! Once when I was giving her a good dose of lov’ in front of my apartment building when the neighbor from across the street told me this is what she does regularly. Nobody seems to know where she lives but she must have a home because she has a tag and isn’t emancipated. Ah well. Some of us just need a bit more love I suppose!

The model in my neighborhood….models actually…are the squirrels on the tree right outside my window. And they know when I take their photos..they strike the cutest poses and I can get pretty close to them without scaring them as long as the camera is pointing at them 😀 😀 😀
Kate & Zena says
Um, is there no dog I’m not friends with in my neighborhood? Okay, there’s the pitbull by the school who forever lives behind the fence, but I’ve never met him (or her) and the Terror Twin Yorkies (but they like no one), but that’s it! Every dog in the neighborhood takes an instant liking to me, but Ally the German Shepherd/Husky mix, Kelsey the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier and Max the We-Think-It’s-a-Beagle-and-a-Coonhood are the ones Zena likes and I see most (Ally especially.)
Ally’s brother (or is it a sister? No, it’s a brother, I’m pretty sure of it), the cat who’s name I can never remember because it’s so weird and hard to pronounce, I’m also friends with (and Zena finds interesting), but that’s it. I’m not usually the one who takes to cats as I find them too shy and they don’t like people running after them. However, if Ally’s bud is outside and the weather is looking bad (or it’s getting dark), I’ll pick up the kitty and bring him home. He normally roams around outside during the day and comes inside at night. Why can’t I remember that darn cat’s name? Zigrich? Ziglich? It’s starts with a Z (that much I remember.)
I think all of them are good modeling material. Well, Ally is as long as she is brushed very thoroughly. Those Germans and Huskies….they shed like weeds! They all are VERY cute. Zena, however, would argue she’s still cutest.

She is very pretty! 😀 She looks like she has potential for sure. Tabs just needs to guide her a bit in posing and she’ll be on her way to kitty modeling! He’s looking very wise in the photo.

Cross-eyed kitty is adorable. She definitely has some talents and I guess Tabs needs to coach her out of her shell. Girl is a lil’ bit shy, isn’t she?
Tabs looked so regal next to the Chanel bottle. As much as a talented model as he is, he still needs a gifted photographer to bring out the Tabs-ness in him.

Cross-Eyed kitty looks so much like my kitty, who we’ve been told is a Ragdoll. He has the exact coloring as she does, along with the crossed blue eyes. Ragdolls are some of the sweetest cats on the planet!
Ruchita says
Aww, what a pretty girl! Thanks for sharing pictures.
There’s a male stray kitty we’ve been feeding for the past few weeks. We call him Buddy and sometimes “lunkhead” b/c he’s got a big ole head compared to his body! 🙂
He may not be traditional kitty model material, but he may have one of those unusual looks that might work in the modeling world.
I’m actually a bit worried about him because it’s been several days since he’s showed up. I hope some family has taken him in or maybe he got a big overseas gig and hasn’t had time to write. 🙂

what a gorgeous gorgeous kitty! i love the pictures you took!
we have been feeding mr. green bean since we moved in and when we dont see him for a few days, we worry. i havent seen him since friday night … and i hope hes hunkered down somewhere safe… 🙂

Wow, Cross-Eyed Kitty is gorgeous! She is really unusual looking! I think she has great potential.
P.s. I would probably steal her if I were you.

We have a cross-eyed kitty in our neighborhood, too! She likes to sit outside one of the windows in our living room and serenade my gigantic 18 pound male domestic short hair with her love songs. She’s barking up the wrong tree, though, because Mr. Kitty is more inclined to fall in love with a bag of new kitty food than a stray female.
Nina says
We have so many cats around our complex! I befriended 4 of them, 2 are tiny twin kittens and one is 5 months old, and the last one is missing an ear but is really beautiful. But they’re all so shy, I need to try quite a while before I can scratch their heads or take pictures of them!

awww, she’s so cute! adorable lil mouth hehe
tabs is cute too <3
i used to play n take care of all the astray animals around here when i was little….now not so much 🙁 and i regret it now….i loved a kitty i tamed 😀 she was so scared at first but i approached her gently and i have her some food and didn't just jump to pet her. one step at a time hehe
i was the one she liked to sit on my lap n slowly stroke her head n back. she wasn't so scared of people anymore but still distant(i liked that hehe, i was special to her). I named her Cappuccino. she disappeared after some time tho 🙁
there were also these dogs…one that i knew when i was like 6. i just had to say his name 'stropto'(lol) from around the block and he would run so fast towards me. i made him a cookie once :)) fed him with soup and food made by mom
the other dogs were a male n a female. i met them when i was older, 11-12 i guess. they always barked at ppl and he even bit a man once(but he would let me do ANYTHING to him…like wiping his boogers w/ a leaf lol hehe no tissues available). every time i went out and sat on a bench they;d be under it or around me.
i miss them

Lovely cat and very talented. I own a bulldog, but he is not modeling material :))

That little female and Tabs would make a terrific-looking couple. I can see them together at the Oscars, the Emmys, the Golden Paw Awards, all the big shows!
All the stray cats around my house ended up living with me; the count is up to 3 so far, including a huge male Maine Coon and little sister (not as much Coon, but some). The big one’s named Taz and the little one Cleo. The other stray (who strayed into my heart) is a small-ish female named Isis.
They joined the two orange tabby cats, brother and sister, I brought from NY and a round-ish black one with a few white hairs, also adopted here in Florida. That makes six and I think that’s enough, for now anyway.

She looks like she isnt eatting enough. The pix of her from the back, u can see her shoulder blades.

What a beautiful kitty! So does she belong to anyone? My husband and I practically adopted our neighbor’s cat from across the street from us. His name apparently is Shadow and I was in love with him the first time I saw him: a huge, poofy black cat with yellow eyes demanding attention. His owners pay zero attention to him and his fellow mate, a tabby with paws so tiny you would think she would have trouble keeping her balance. We call her Emmy. Shadow is so starved for attention (even their kids ignore him) that we started paying attention to him. I don’t remember how we befriended him but he is the sweetest and friendliest thing. Now he hardly ever goes “home” because our yard is his home now. He lives outside exclusively because though he has shown interest in coming inside he seems to enjoy the outdoor life. So he has an open box lined with newspaper and an old towel by our front door, and regular food and water from us. He follows us to the mail box, greets us when we park the car in the garage, etc. His owners’ kids tried to call him home (I think out of jealousy) and I even brought him over; he was having none of that. As soon as I set him on their sidewalk he turned around and went back to our house. 🙂

The kitty is a sealpoint cat–you can tell by the markings (esp. the darker tips). I actually have a gorgeous sealpoint snowshoe cat, who looks quite similar, only with a bit more brown fur covering a larger portion of his body and white socks (hence, “snowshoe”). Mine also has beautiful blue cross-eyes, and a Cindy Crawford mole by the nose. Quite a stunner!
Annie says
Awww, she looks like my Siamese-mix boy Giacomo.

That kitty looks like a Ragdoll (and what a pretty one, too)! I can pick my Seal Mitted Ragdoll up and kind of hang her on my shoulder, lol — Ragdolls go limp when you pick them up, hence their name.
My cats don’t go for walks as they’re indoor-only, but there are lots of pet owners in my apartment building and there’s almost always someone with their dog outside. The neighbour across the hall from me has the cutest pug, tiny, but some of my other neighbours have bigger dogs.
