Is cute packaging enough?
Who am I kidding? Sometimes, all it takes is cute packaging to trigger my makeup desire mechanism, ha! Matter of fact, there were things in MAC’s Hello Kitty collection that I *almost* bought simply because of the packaging, even though I didn’t really care for the products themselves.
I passed because of the cost, but drugstore beauty products — that’s a different story. When something only costs a couple bucks, sometimes I’ll buy for no better reason than the packaging.
What do you think? Is cute packaging reason enough to buy makeup and beauty products?

Don’t get me started on this…for a long time,I didn’t know that makeup is supposed to look good on the face…All I got was a load of Japanese cosmetics with cute packaging. (which became some major eyesore now I tried to actually wear them.)
And if there is a decent product and the packaging sucks, I skip it all together: I am quite impressed with some nars eye shadow but I think I will skip them because too much rubber compact looks boring in my stash…

Hi Citrine,
I have been tempted on several occasions to buy Japanese makeup because it looks cute. You aren’t the only one in that boat. 🙂

The packaging makes me look twice at the products. So it often encourages me to buy something, but the price is usually the overall first issue.
Karen says
Hi Kalyn,
I hear you. If something is cute and I can get it on sale that ups the chance of me picking it up.

I Love NARS’ packaging lol~
but yes, I do sometimes buy an item because of the packaging. can’t say I don’t regret it though 😛
Karen says
Hi Lily,
Me too! It’s so sleek and minimalist. Plus, when ya line up all your stuff together it totally matches. Do you have a favorite Nars product? I have been wearing The Multiple Orgasm (ha! makes me laugh every time I see the words) 24/7.

i am a sucker for packaging – its the inner designer in me lol !’
Karen says
Hi YadiQ,
LOL! 🙂 What was the last thing you bought for the packaging?
I must confess — sometimes I’ll also buy makeup if I like the name of the product. If it’s clever or makes me laugh then I’m all over it!

karen,
did you “create” that pallette in the upper right? i was just about to try and find it online when i realized you made the “blushes” so maybe you made the palette too!! i hope you didn’t and it actually exists… i want it 😉
Karen says
Hi Cady,
Yup, I did. I wish it was real! Wouldn’t it be so much fun? 🙂

The same way I buy books because of the cover. Sometimes.
Karen says
Hi Meream,
I do that with books, too. I still remember the very first book I checked out from the library — I picked it out because I liked the red cover. 🙂

I am such a packaging snob. I do buy things sometimes just for the packaging, but it’s more likely that I WON’T buy things I like because of BAD packaging! For instance, most drug store nail polishes and eye shadows totally turn me off because the packaging looks sooooo 80’s (think Revlon). It’s just ick. I know, I am weird. 🙂

Guilty, I bought a Too Faced palette recently because there was u Unicorn on it (thank goodnes I like the colors too) and even a Wet n’ Wild eye shadow palette last summer because there was a flower embossed on it lol. I do use the taupe shade on that palette from time to time. Ooh, and the Too Faced World Domination Tour palette, simply because it looks like a little girls jewelry box complete w/dancing ballerina. Who wouldn’t want that? 🙂

I am so guilty of this… Benefit Cosmetics introduced me to this, and so any makeup I bought after that just didn’t seem as exciting! But pretty colours, bold packaging, fun fonts.. my eyes lit up!

I have to be honest. Sometimes. I’m a sucker for the cute, flashy and happy. But at the same time I’ll also check out the quality and price before picking up the tab. I guess you could say the cute packaging ATTRACTS me. lol
