Haaay! Hello from rainy Novato. Not much to report on this end, aside from Tabs bossing me around, purr usual.
Today he had me hire a film crew so he could work on his sizzle reel. He’s thinking about pitching a reality TV show to Bravo, but he’ll only do it if he can retain complete creative control…
In other news, I may have to start charging this tabby rent soon! He just booked a major TV commercial with a large cosmetics company. The commercial’s supposed to air tonight…so keep your eyes peeled.
Who is Tabs the Cat? About six years ago I befriended a stray, flea-bitten tabby cat with a bad case of worms. I could see he’d fallen on hard times, but his profound knowledge of high fashion and department store cosmetics led me to believe that he was more than meets the eye. We became fast friends, and now he’s actually my boss (and a successful kitty model). 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addicts,
Karen and Tabs
P.S. That’s my new hair in the video. It’s not a big change. Just a little darker. 🙂
P.P.S. Almost time for The Walking Dead premiere! Can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait…

Congratulations, Tabs!
Your covercat commercial was super fab.
I think people are going to be asking for make-up tutorials of your cat liner look from the commercial.

OMG, that commercial! I love his little cubbyhole too!
Have you seen this? It’s called Downtown Tabby and it made me think of a certain husky tabby (although I actually know several husky tabbies, if Tabs wanted to come to Michigan, which I wouldn’t recommend in this weather…)

Genius!
I’m not sure if you knew this (haha! That’s like code for “a joke is coming”), but Tabs actually starred in a few episodes of Downton Tabby a couple seasons ago…

OMG TAAAABS! It’s funny to see how he tries to play with 3 toys at the same time! Love the little space you carved out for him too. So cozy!

Hehe, Tabs is too cute 🙂 Sometimes I wish I had a cat to keep me company while I’m writing, but I know if I got one it would probably sudiously ignore me until dinnertime 😉
Chris25 says
Tabs is so gorgeous, he puts Gisele to shame!
Kiss & Make-up says
A day in the life of Tabs, that is just awesome 🙂 And he actually PLAYS! The cats we used to have either ignored my completely or attacked me instead of the toy… I like your darker hair color by the way, looks great.
GlamKitty says
Squee! There is NOTHING cuter than a cat playing. 😀 (And that look at the end, Tabs’ green-eyed version of Blue Steel? PRICELESS, lol.)

Tabs is adorable! Many years ago I shared my home with a stray kitten I rescued from a car engine in a parking lot who looked a lot like Tabs and who was s real character. Unfortunately my son is allergic to cats (and dogs, and horses). So he has 3 guinea pigs and I have a dwarf Russian hamster, because pets add so much to life. My beloved Tolstoy lived out his natural lifespan and passed on two weeks ago, so Natasha has come to live with us. She is cute as can be, active, curious, and smart; she’s my little girlfriend, but I still miss my little buddy. You have to play with a little hamster a lot before it will really settle down and cuddle with you for long periods of time. Natasha’s learning fast, maybe she will even become a therapy hamster like Tolstoy was. She has the most gorgeous white and grey fur coat, super soft and very glamorous — she’d look fabulous in red lipstick 😉
Karen says
Hi Fran!
Natasha and Tolstoy sound amazing! What fantastic names you’ve given them, too. Bravo. 🙂

I don’t know what it is about animal lovers and beauty lovers, they must be on the same gene or something. Because you are not the only beauty blogger to feature their beloved pet (mostly cats, one dog on Temptalia). I started feeding a black cat during a hard winter when my kids were babies. One, turned to three, until 7 years later one gave birth in our backyard. When only one kitten of that litter survived, and she and her Mom got pregnant the following winter, I knew what I had to do. So started our trap/neuter/ release program, with the addition of making a spare room in the basement into a kitty nursery, so I could tame and socialize the kittens and get them homes. Unfortunately, homes have dried up, but all but one are spayed. Many of the former kitens still live in my backyard and come in their “room” at night. There are no stray cats in my neighborhood anymore, they are all my pets! But one is special. We named her Tabitha, after Tabitha the baby witch on “Bewitched” because she was so mean when we first brought her in at 6 weeks old. One of five, she never got adopted because she didn’t want to live with anyone but us. So for many years she occupied the basement alone. When new kittens arrived, she began to live outside again. But 2 years ago she got very badly injured, we don’t know how. After nursing her back to health, she finally realized she can’t live outside all the time, and has agreed to share the basement room with the others so no one has to be out in theis horrible cold. My Tabby is a gorgeous calico, who’s twin sister was adopted by my husband’s best friend, she wanted to be an inside cat! I’m a doctor and a Mom, not a crazy cat lady. But I can’t stand to see anything suffer, so I got in a little over my head. But with TNR, population growth becomes zero, and the existing colony can live out their days in comfort. And they give a lot of comfort as well! Just wanted to point out what is probably obvious. Beauty lovers also seem to be amazingly kind, animal lovers as well!
Karen says
Hi Ellen,
Well, animals are beautiful! 🙂 And I’m not a stickler for labels and definitions or saying that “This is a beauty blog! It’s only supposed to talk about makeup and beauty!”
Sometimes I get emails like that from people who angrily complain about how much my cat appears all over the blog.
I never reply, but if I did, I’d say “Hogwash. Tabs is one of the most beautiful creatures I’ve ever seen! And he’s a joy to work with, too — better than any bipedal employer I’ve had.”
You sound like an angel to the animals in your neighborhood. Thank you for your kindness and compassion.
Speaking for myself, I started “working for” my tubby tabby here on the blog shortly after we met, which was back in late 2007. It seemed like the perfect marriage, with his flare for fashion and my love of makeup. We’ve been a dynamic duo ever since.
And also, in my case, Tabs keeps things exciting for me, because truthfully, talking about anything, even makeup, can get old after a while without something to keep it interesting.
